New Bern Battlefield Park

Really nice place for a walk! Nice scenery and well-​maintained trails.

Don’t expect a traditional battlefield by any means — this is pretty much a forest with some trails, and occassional markers where you can read a bit about this very short battle. But it’s a lovely area, and a nice chance to get some exercise in.

New Bern Battlefield Park is a gem that is tucked away in Taberna — near the entrance. The park has great trails through the woods and some great history The Confederate Defensive Earthworks can be seen in a number of places. It is a place of great history from the Civil War. The grounds are scenic and peaceful and fun to walk. There are foot bridges over streams and benches to sit and reflect. There is a shelter for having a picnic and the split wood fences take me back in time.
I will make this 5 stars when there are garbage cans in the park to put refuse (including the picking up after pets and when the rest rooms are unlocked on Sat and Sun mid day).
