I was a huge fan of the original operators of the Z Café at Zimmerli Art Museum, however since last year it has been managed by The Food Architects of Piscataway and my satisfaction with Z Café has considerably dropped. Not only is the food WAYYYYYY overpriced(around $ 4 for an underwhelming container of most likely day old cantaloupe as well as exorbitant prices on mediocre sandwiches, bottle of pepsi sodas and chips) but the service is extremely slow due to there only being one employee, making it impossible to get a quick cup of tea or a snack between classes. The combinations within the food are about what you’d expect — pretty okay, where tastier elements are sometimes suffocated by unnecessary smears of mayonnaise or too much garlic, as if the chef is trying to hard. With a $ 10 credit card minimum, its not something you’re going to want to have everyday, but if you’re in the mood for a cup of tea or need a bottle of water and aren’t in any particular hurry than this is a convenient stop, however if you’re looking for an inexpensive quick lunch option, I would recommend looking elsewhere.

While we didn’t eat at the actual café at the Zimmerli museum, they did cater the event, and the food was quite yummy. Of course, Pesach struck again, and I was relegated to cheese and fruit(later remedied at EFE’S) but my cousin had the sandwiches and they looked quite good. The fruit was very ripe, always a nice touch when that’s all you’re eating. Presentation for the platters was nice too, I can’t give it 5 stars without eating there fo rill though!
