Great food, good selection of local beers on tap,(local wines too) and friendly service. My favorites: the LP Burger and the Calimari salad. The desserts are also very good.

Great restaurant. Originally went when first opened and we were not big fans. Have gone back multiple times since and it’s like a new restaurant. Food is excellent. Recommend any salad, the burger, steak sandwich, and we especially like the daily specials. All food is well prepared, served promptly, and delicious. Both bartenders are very nice and always welcome us with a smile. The mug club is great. If you tried the restaurant in the past and were not a fan I highly recommend going. Really great place.

My husband and I stopped in for lunch today as we had heard some pretty ok reviews. From the moment you step in, you notice that the décor is dated and dirty. We waited approximately 5 minutes before we were even acknowledged by the owner/manager and even then, it was not a warm or friendly welcome. We were then told to just pick a table by the hostess. There were only two other tables with customers at them, so the restaurant was not even close to being busy. We waited quite a while before our drink orders were taken(my husband ordered iced tea) and then about 15 more minutes before our lunch order was taken. When our lunch was served, it was not very appealing to look at. I ordered the perch and my husband ordered the beef medallions with a madeira demi-glacé. The beef medallions turned out to be a very tough piece of sirloin and the madeira demi-glacé was a very thick, very sweet tasting gravy that really did not compliment the meat at all. If this was not bad enough, I was served perch with fingerling potatoes. The potatoes were a ok, until I bit into one of the purple potatoes. It was completely rotten — you know, that horrible smell of rotten potatoes — imagine having that in your mouth. I was unable to finish my lunch because of the awful taste. When my husband pointed out to the waitress that the potato was rotten, she said, «well, you do know that they are purple potatoes, right?» I told her that we are very familiar with purple potatoes and this one was terrible. She did not offer to reduce our bill, she did not apologize, she did not get the manager/owner, and she did not do anything to make the situation better. Overall, we paid over $ 50 for a terrible lunch that was incredibly unsatisfactory coupled with very unfortunate service.

A new addition to Michiana and a place worth the ride. The panko crusted tilapia was melt in your mouth delicious. Served over a bed of grilled butternut squash, it was a perfect pairing. Reasonable priced wine list and very generous desserts that could easily be shared rounded out the entire dining experience. Great food and great friendly service. We will be back.

A great new addition to the ‘hood. I enjoyed the LP Burger and fries for lunch. The waitress was pleasant and while they are still getting their feet on the ground, the atmosphere was good and the décor consistent with the«beachy» intent. I will go back soon. The menu was varied and tempting. If you live or have a weekend home in this area, this is a restaurant worth trying!

Ate at the LP this weekend. My 2 cents: Overall, who ever is running the place is trying hard to please. The hostess and server were both cheerful and provided great service. It’s clear they are trying to draft off of the Stray Dog template… lots of LP wearable items for sale as you walk in, shabby chic décor. That said, there are two eating areas. The one to the left as you enter contains a large bar, and is bright, clean, and welcoming. The dining area to the right is downright gloomy and very dated. Note to owners: If you don’t have the dough to remodel yet, can you at least install better lighting? It’s depressing. As for the food, LP aims high… perhaps a little too high… and falls short. The pork rillettes, which several Unilocalers brag about is A) too big a serving B) is essentially blended pork and cream cheese… tastes like a weak pâté… and C) is presented in a mason jar /lid combo, that, while folksy, is awkward to serve from The perch croquettes were tasty. The perch filets were just OK… I would have hoped for a lighter, flakier batter. Other members in my group ordered the steak salad, chicken thighs, stacked sandwich, and poblano pepper /cheese tacos. All were good, but JUSTTHAT…“good”. No wow factor. The consensus was that the unique items on the menu set our expectations up, and the food we got, while not bad, didn’t live up to our hopes. Maybe the owners can bring in somebody to help them take the food to the next level, but as it stands now, I think it’s a cute concept, poorly executed. That’s one thing you can say about the Stray Dog: consistently wonderful, flavorful food.

Place is a mixed mess of décor with carpeted floors. Which is not attractive in a restaurant. Every dish has at least one or two sauces on the plate. Perch was delicious but the sides were not good. Steak salad interesting dish meat was delicious cold green beans not good. This is a great location and I see potential here need to lose some of the creamy sauces. Try some fresh veggies as sides to balance the flavors.

Great new restaurant! We loved everything about it. Our appetizer was pork rillettes with toast, apricot chutney, and mustard… yum! Our group tried some very eclectic main course options. All were delicious. We had sautéed perch, chicken thighs with Italian sausage, artichoke wellington, and a cold steak salad. The desert menu was fantastic too. This is a must do for any visit to Harbor Country.

Last weekend, I treated my entire family to supper at The Lazy Perch. We were experienced a number of different tastes — perch croquettes, Parmesan steak tacos, shrimp roll and winter caprese for starters. Each was superb, although my favorite was the winter caprese. My wife and I followed that with sautéed perch — delicious. Our son got the house burger which he absolutely loved. The wine list was reasonable and reasonably priced. Our server, Russell, was both attentive and helpful. And very understanding of the two toddlers with us. If you are in the Michigan City/New Buffalo area, this is an easy recommendation.

Lunch today at the Lazy Perch was a sampling of their munchies. We had Perch Croquettes with remoulade, Pork Rillette, Tater Tots with chorizo and sun-dried tomato mayo, and Peanut Butter Beignets to finish. The croquettes have perch, potatoes, parm and dill coated in panko. They are sublime. Light, crispy, and delicious. The rillette is marsala braised pork blended with blue cheese, brie, roasted shallots and garlic. It is whipped together to a mousse-like consistancy and served with cherry-apricot chutney, cornichons, stone-ground mustard and croustinis. There are no words to describe the deliciousness of this dish. The presentation in a ball jar with the accompaniments along side in the lid. Too cute and so flavorful. Next were the only tator tots that I have ever enjoyed. They are house made with chorizo and fontina. Again, sensational combination and texture to-die-for. Chef Cheryl really knows what she is doing. The peanut butter beignets finished our dining adventure beautifully. The vanilla custard sauce and raspberry sauce were such perfect accents. The beignets resembled lava cakes with their gooey molten centers. All in all a true culinary delight! If you go in on Thursday or Friday, ask for Denni, she is a delight.
