Your typical New England greek diner hidden down a side street in New Canaan, CT. Has all of the typical greek diner fare that you’d expect to find at a place like this, but at a markup that is fitting for the neighborhood. I was in the neighborhood one morning and decided to stop for breakfast. So I sat at the counter and ordered an omelet which came with home fries and toast. I also ordered a side of sausage and a cup of coffee. Typical mediocre omelet and sides. Was a little shocked when I got the bill and it was $ 17, not including tip! A few miles down the road in Norwalk I’ve paid $ 10 for the same breakfast.

Went for lunch at 2:30 pm on a weekday. We were the only two customers in the diner. We ordered lunch and the food was pretty good. HOWEVER the cleaning girl proceeded to mop the floor around our table with a wet mop and bucket while we were eating lunch. Washing the floor all around us while we were trying to enjoy lunch was very annoying and this went on for about 15 minutes. I would expect this at a fast food joint, but NOT while two customers were spending over $ 30 for lunch. Cleaning girl did not speak much English. Manager appeared not to care and wait staff were young and apparently not well trained

The place is pretty small. Our waiter got our order wrong and argued back with us. The food was okay.

I just noticed that I have a pretty unfavorable review of NC Diner here. It’s four years old, and I think it’s time to re-review(especially given the number to times I’ve been there since.) It’s still expensive, but it’s the New Canaan, so what can one expect? That being said, the food is good quality, comfort diner food. The service is very good and the staff friendly. You need to be careful about going in on the weekends for breakfast, as it’s a bit small & the Daddies taking their kids out for weekend breakfast(and giving Mommy a break) can make the place a bit loud. I wish they’d have the shredded type of hash browns, in addition to their home fries, and that their breakfast sausages were the little small links I like, and not the big ones they have. Minor.

Another eating establishment where the server believes showing up and breathing deserves a tip. I ordered the breakfast burrito. Overdone and excessively dry. No sour cream as stated on the menu. Served with the most bizarre«salsa» ever full of carrots and celery. Server was inattentive but had plenty of time to chat with coworkers. Cute place but I would not return.

Latest visit– not too good. Still hot turkey is decent and the shakes. But the good stopped there.

The ambience is very cute. The diner is a very small hole in the wall on a lovely little streets on the edge of downtown New Canaan. Downtown New Canaan is itself very quaint and cute. I had a breakfast meeting with a colleague from White Plains, and it worked out to be a pretty good mid point. The menu has a lot of interesting choices. There’s even a full page of Milkshakes. We were there for breakfast and and there were a lot of really interesting choices. That said, I ordered two eggs poached on the toast with potatoes. My standby very regular breakfast. Everything was prepared just the way I hoped service was friendly and quick. The only drawback was that the coffee was terrible. Everything else was great. I’m willing to overlook the coffee. A nice place for breakfast!

Five stars because the food is eatable, my kid can act like a monster. I can avoid cooking — and I can show up somewhere in downtown New Canaan looking like I just might possibly be homeless or(of least NOT from New Canaan ;) and still avoid the hairy eyeball.

Love this place! Regular nachos are our favorite — we run out of chips before running out of toppings. Very good diner food. One of the best dining values in New Canaan. We go there frequently. Staff always friendly and accomodating. Good place for a shake.

Very average and so-so. People who want good diner food normal drive to stamford or norwalk for it.

After complaining about waiting an hour plus for salad and French fries the Manager told us we should understand it’s a Friday night and they’re busy. If that was not bad enough the food tasted horrible and the bill was rediculously high. Shocked they’re still in business! Stay away!

This place is a garbage diner. The food is always very expensive and very, very poor. It I received anything seasoned there I don’t remember. The service is stellar.

Although the atmosphere is great, I have to agree with some other reviewers that the food is only so-so. I had eggs Benedict that was overcooked, the ham was fatty. My sister had an omelette she said was overcooked as well. My mom had bacon with her eggs she thinks the bacon was microwaved it wasn’t good when I tasted it. There definitely was not attention to detail at this diner.

We were on our way to Bridgeport during a here sous traffic jam and took a detour. Unilocal to the rescue to get dinner and wait out the traffic. I found a great place with 4 starts and as we pull up with my 9 year old she really really really wants to go into the diner. I check the reviews and they are not so hot. Oh well let’s try it. Food: depends on what you get. We had a kids meal, a malt, French onion soup and an omelet. The kids meal looked so so as she had a hamburger and fries and not a single veggie on the plate like a leaf of lettuce but she said she liked it, go figure :-) The soup was dubious and the omelet was pretty good. Basic diner food that hit the spot. The malt was super yummy with banana and chocolate. The ambiance: the diner is small and super cute. It was full if teens, parents with kids(like me) and some older folks. What really stood out for me however was the cleanliness of the place. It was spotless! That is a huge feat for what I usual think of when I think diner, greasy. Not here. Seriously look at the salt shakers, the counter where they make the shakes or anywhere for that matter. I saw the staff wiping things down when they were not helping customers. The cashier was cleaning the plastic folds where you get your bills. I don’t think I’ve really ever even seen that done at a restaurant. It’s really super spotless. The staff was nice to us and it was a really easy choice. So if you’re looking for comfort diner food this is the place, if you want a 5 star restaurant with nevau cuisine keep it moving.

I generally have a fairly well-tempered stomach, but I had a California omlette from here today and am now sick to my stomach. Have been here a couple times and had the salads and they are medicore at best. But hey I guess at least those don’t make you sick! Compared to the plethora of great restaurants in new canaan, and given the already overpriced nature of new Canaan diner, you must be crazy to go to this dump. If you want good breakfast food try baldanza, chef Luis, Connecticut muffin or club sandwich to name a few. One thing’s for sure– this was the last time I’ll eat from new Canaan diner!

Not bad, the service was kinda pokey though. I liked my smoked salmon wrap, it was good, but not over the top knock your socks off by any means. Overall it looked like a lot of the diner staples were on the pricey side. For an off the cuff wandering around choice though, this place wasn’t bad, and the other two people I was with had no complaints either.

Cool atmosphere, service is ok, food isn’t great and it’s pricey so overall, do not recommend. Was here for breakfast with my husband and both of our meals were just ok. Coffee was good, bacon was terrible, tasted and looked like it was a few days old. Eggs were the best part and were just ok. Was way too expensive for ok/crappy food.

I got the chopped salad while my fiancée got a Cobb salad. I liked my salad, but sadly the Cobb was very un-Cobb-like. My salad was pretty large and had tons of fixings and ingredients. Inside is a neat, kitschy diner environment, although the small space meant that it was quite noisy. It was hard to hear the server, and nobody stopped by to refill waters or check on us during the meal, so service could be improved.

We stopped in today for lunch and there was quite a crowd so we figured it would be good, right? Wrong. FOOD: I ordered a Cobb salad. Here are the ingredients that were in my salad: iceberg lettuce, corn(tons of corn– like a whole can of corn), stringy red onion, chicken, cucumber, carrots, tomatoes and bacon. Now I ask you, if you do not have the basic ingredients for a Cobb salad(eggs, avocado, blue cheese) should you be allowed to call it a Cobb salad? No! Just call it something else. I wouldn’t have ordered that if I knew it was a Cobb imposter. I asked for blue cheese dressing and whatever I got was gross. It basically just tasted like mayo. If blue cheese had ever touched that dressing I would be in shock. SERVICE: We ran out of water and no one ever came by to refill it. ATMOSPHERE: Loud. Very loud. Diner décor which is cute. Kid friendly. PRICE: $ 12 for an imposter Cobb is an outrage. FINALVERDICT: will not return.
