Went to Moser’s in New Carlisle last night. My steak and lobster Valentine’s Day special was horrific, sent my wine back, soup was cold. My husband’s weinerschnitzel and spaetzel with red cabbage was really good. The restaurant was loud, but the service was good. The waitress must have thought I was a total bitch, but my meal was not edible. They brought me another special dinner but it was not much better than the first inedible one. I should have taken a picture of my plate — cold garlic mashed potatoes, tough roasted asparagus, steak that clearly was overcooked and lobster tail that was stringy and difficult to remove from the tail. And they had no cups for melted butter so they just poured some over the tail. After they brought me the 2nd meal I realized that the special was something that they never should have offered if they couldn’t provide it ihe way it should be done. It was like a lost leader and it was really lost.

To start, the draft beer was excellent and service was friendly and consistent both times we visited. The first time we went to Moser’s, we were on our way to Southbend from Chicago and wanted to try a new place. We ordered pork and chicken jaegerschnitzel. We also asked for Kase Spaetzle instead of regular Spaetzle. This, along with the mushroom sauce on the schnitzel and the cheese sauce on the Spaetzle was absolutely heavenly, the best I had had at a German restaurant in a long time. On our next visit to Southbend, time was set aside to make another visit to Moser’s. The second time the sauce on the Jaegerschnitzel was almost non-existent, the Schnitzel was dry and overcooked, the Spaetzle was dry and the kase/cheese with the Spaetzle was crusted on an burnt and in no way shape or form a sauce of any kind. Incredibly disappointed and sad we drove out of the way for the meal. Given the average of the two visits I give it 3 stars. Wish it was a consistent 5.

Tried this place out for the first time last weekend. Good service, excellent food. I ordered the veal jagershnitzel and it was amazing. Came with soup which was delicious. The bread was great. The drinks weren’t weak. Will definitely be back.

Have been here several times, once with my now departed father, who lived in Germany for 7 years, and was born and raised near the Austrian-Hungarian border. Nice décor, kitchy but apt. The appetizers were kind of a let down, as the meats and cheeses were nothing at all special, in fact, I think I could’ve got them cheaper at Martins, or Gordon Food Service on Grape road. The Wienersnitzel thing on the menu, seems after a few visits, to be more like an omelet menu, as in vegetarian omelet, ham and egg omelet, beef snitzel, pork snitzel… or even like a Chinese fooderia. The beer is the most German thing they have, and it is worth the visit, though kinda pricey. Waitstaff the first time was ridiculously slow, we almost left, but have been prompt the last 2 times. They have moved since the first time I went, and now share the space with a candy store, which sometimes has live acoustic music. To sum up my two star rating: Nice, but not really German and not really special. Go if someone else is paying only.

Stumbled on to this place while working in the area. Thought I’d try it since I love kraut. I got the brat and Kraut. It was delicious and reasonably priced. The service was excellent, the waitress I had was so nice and was prompt. The regular menu looked so good that we will have to make a trip up here to eat here for dinner. There’s also a café connected with the best gelato I’ve ever had.
