Pizza Joe’s on State Street has been a perennial favorite of my family since at least the 80s. My parents and grandparents still go there for brunch every Sunday. They have a surprisingly extensive breakfast menu for a neighborhood pizza place. They have breakfast sandwiches, omelettes, home-fried potatoes, etc. Their breakfast stromboli are my favorite. They also have a plethora of delicious doughnuts. The only drawback is the customer service, specifically the highschoolers who sometimes don’t pay close enough attention when you request«no mayo, please.» Can be a deal-breaker for old folks.

Not the best pizza in town. Not terrible either. Over the years this place has come to resemble chain style pizza more and more. Most people that praise this place I think mostly do so out of nostalgia.

I enjoy it, the recipe for the sauce has not changed. Now they serve some of the best donuts in town since New Model Bakery. AWESOME pizza, you really can’t beat it. I agree regarding the Customer Service, thier High School Kids and I understand that, wanting to earn some money. They are not the same as when we were young who gave respect to others not matter what. As far as the pizza, again GREAT — Thank you Joe

This is a mixed bag. My wife grew up here, so Pizza Joe’s is a staple of hers(and I love the pizza as well) — their vegetable pizza is the best! That being said, the service(and by «service» I mean the cashiers) are the rudest we’ve EVER seen — THE main people customers deal with are the WORSTfolks you would want dealing with customers –not the smartest way to do business.

There is no better place to get a pizza, calzones, or classic italian sub. But there are more important reasons you should visit Pizza Joe’s — donuts. That’s right, the finest made and most delicious donuts you will find in this country. I’m not a New Castle native — only here visiting family — but when I discovered Pizza Joe’s donuts, I discovered the finest hidden gem Penn has to offer. I live in New England, I travel every week, I’ve had the donuts at every hipster haven in NYC, every five star rated old school bakery in Boston, every best of the best in Philly, DC, and beyond. I’m here to tell you — Joe beats them all. Check out the pictures, travel from near and from far. You will not be disappointed, I promise. They only make them Friday, Saturday, and Sunday mornings. They start selling early, and they sell out before most of us usually wake up. But get there early, you will be glad you did. Watch out kings of food network, you’ve got new competition in Pizza Joe.
