Drove past this place a few weeks ago and thought it looked like an interesting place to go back to, so on my day off, I ventured back. The drive from Freeport was beautiful, past Pineland, farmhouses, and rolling hills. The beach itself is small and there is a fee to use it, but unlike other Maine beaches of any sort, it wasn’t packed with people. Even on a Saturday. There were a lot of small children, but once you swam out to one of the two docks, the noise level dropped because most of the families stayed near the shore. The lake boat traffic was light, which made for a picturesque quiet day. Then there is a the snack shack… This place makes some of the best ice cream I’ve ever had. It was better than all the shops in Portland, and I would send people there just for a scoop. So, if you want a relaxing day on a beautiful lake beach, don’t mind a few kids around, and want to partake in some amazing ice cream, try this little gem in the woods.

$ 5/pp for access to private, very small strip of beach. Great place if you have kids. Clean porta potties nearby. Arrive early if you want a prime spot on the sand. Food shack has many delicious options — highly recommend the gourmet hot dog.
