Pros: Museum. Cons: Inflexible with tour times so don’t arrive late or else you’ll miss out. If you want an interactive experience, go to a living museum instead(i.e. Canterville). The only Shakers you’ll see are manning the tourist attractions.

My wife and I went out of our way to visit the Shaker village… There are only 3 Shakers left in the entire world and they are located in this village. If you are interested in American religious history, this is definitely worth the trip as the old meeting house has been meticulously preserved(original paint and floors from the 1790s). I’m not sure what it was, but something was missing from the experience.

Went for a random visit and drove about 3 hours to get there. Was in desperate need to use a restroom and a person/ground keeper refused us access. Very unfriendly, but then again they’re a dying breed. I wonder why

One would assume with only three members left in this last functioning Shaker Community in the country that they would have that book by Dale Carnegie on their bookshelf. You know, that one about winning friends? On arrival after 2 ½ hours and finding the Museum /village closed… we were not allowed to use the restrooms. Perhaps that whole celibate thing created this less than friendly response to our request. Who am I to question your lifestyle however. You must be doing something right to be such a thriving community. I wish all three of you only the best in your whimper of an experiment.
