Went with the Hubs yesterday for lunch after discovering it in a Google search on our way to New Hartford. We never heard of it, so didn’t know what to expect, but decided to give it a go. A little underwhelmed when we first walked in, but décor is not really a big deal to us. We ordered tea and water. The tea was really good. It tasted like an authentic Japanese tea, and not just from a tea bag. We decided to split the Sushi and Sashimi Combo. It came with miso soup which I ate and loved. The hubs ordered a bowl of the hot and sour soup. It was all very fresh and tasty. Presentation on the platter was really artfully done too. It came with five pieces of chef choice sushi, one roll and 12 pieces of sashimi. We ended up each getting a bowl of sushi rice, just to off-set the fact that we were splitting the plate. Even the rice on its own was delicious. There was not a single piece that either of us disliked. For dessert, we split the fried banana and ice cream. There were six slices of the fried banana and two scoops of vanilla ice cream. It was not something that I would normally try, but I could see myself getting again. Everything came to about $ 35 All in all, we were both pleasantly surprised and can totally see ourselves going back and recommending it to others.

Asian Bistro and Grill is an Asian restaurant located in the New Hartford shopping plaza near the Planet Fitness. Parking lot is private with plenty of spaces around. Upon entrance, you have to enter another door on the left and turn right to get into the main dining area which has been mostly empty the times I have been here. There is a bar and habachi dining area as well. Place is worn down, seems as it is trying to survive its business with some parts of the restaurant as storage. Known for its great sushi prices and lunch menu, I first tried Asian Bistro and Grill as a delivery from friends. On other occasions, I came for dinner and ordered the Bento Box. Served with soup and rice with 4 selections of teriyaki, hot appetizer, cold appetizer, and sushi roll. Mongolian Beef(2⁄5): First thing I’ve tried that was from delivery. Meat was bland, had to eat this with the vegetables in order to add some flavor with my lovely Sriracha. Maybe I should have stuck with General Tso’s that usually has some flavor at most Asian restaurants. Bonus points for the rice because there is a lot of that. Miso Soup(1⁄5): Bland, bland. I have to say this is the worst miso soup I’ve tried. Did not bother to finish this. Hot Wonton Soup(3⁄5): This was the better soup of the two I’ve tried that is served with two wonton dumplings. Shrimp Teriyaki(4⁄5): My favorite out of all that I have tried. Packed with flavor and shrimp size was great. I would order this off the menu alone. Definitely try this if you are not sure what to order. Pork Gyoza(3⁄5): This is essentially fried dumplings with pork meat inside. Served with three pieces as the hot appetizer. Kind of greasy in my opinion but wasn’t bad! Avocado Salad(3⁄5): Sliced cuts of avocado with the ginger dressing. I love ginger dressing so that upped the rating on this but healthy and light dish! Lobster Roll(1/5, Lobster tempura, cucumber, avocado & masago): Wasn’t impressed by this. There were 6 pieces that did not seem that fresh to me, especially the lobster tempura. I wouldn’t order this even if it was on the half price sushi menu. Chicken Teriyaki(2⁄5): Teriyaki sauce was what made this. Chicken was dry and thin. Order the shrimp if you want to have a teriyaki dish. Spider Roll(3/5, Fried soft shell crab, cucumber, lettuce & masago, with eel sauce): This is more of a raw sushi compared to the lobster roll, taste wise. It did seem more fresh and the soft shell crab is very easy to chew. Kani Salad(3⁄5): Light mayonnaise in the mix of vegetables and crab. This was great with the chicken teriyaki, brought some life in my mouth. Honestly, if you are debating what salad to order — choose something that includes the ginger dressing. You will not regret. Shrimp Sumai(3⁄5): Three pieces of shrimp balls if I had to describe this. Slightly fried and served with sweet soy sauce, I believe. Again, wasn’t a bad hot appetizer. Service is not the greatest even when there are only 2 tables that are occupied. There is usually only one waiter that is working. Overall, I have experienced better and wouldn’t come unless someone wanted to for the specials.

The food is good, the price is reasonable, and the service is ok. I just wish my waiter would smile more and make me feel welcome for once. The only reason I return here is for their half price sushi menu. Sometime they would throw a 20% tip in your bill which is annoying. I don’t believe in that high of a tip if the service sucks. All I can say is this place is «aight».

This restaurant is great, but it needs some work. Likes: I loved the food every time I ordered something there. I’ve never had a bad experience with the food, nor the servers. I actually«made a friend» with one of them since my best friend and I went there a lot after class. We always came for a late lunch special, and had a wonderful time! Haven’t see her in a while, and I’ve forgotten her name.(Sorry!) I also enjoy the nice scenery at the sushi bar, as it is definitely something to be proud of. Dislikes: The things I really need to bring to the attention of the employees are primarily in the structure. The seating is getting more worn down every month I visit. I can see the spots where people have been sitting, and they are like huge craters that just won’t disappear. The place seems kind of open, like there is a lot of unused space. Don’t know why this is, but it unsettles me. I only had one semi-bad experience where the waiter was about to spill my soup, but he quickly corrected himself. Still lost a bit to the floor. Lastly, the atmosphere is kind of… bland. Like its wooden and Japanese/Chinese, but that kind of is restricted to certain spots. Overall: I love this place, and wish I could come more often. Sadly I’ve moved, so that’s no longer an option. I’ll still visit when I can!

Went yesterday for a mommy and kid date w a friend and her child. We had a very nice time. We never felt rushed. Our server was pleasant and described different foods to us. He even got rubber bands. So we could make kid easy chop sticks. Not to mention the food was very very nice. The general tsos chicken was great.

I’ve been here so many times, and I’m just writing this review years later! LOL! I stopped here after a day of shopping today, and this place gets better and better every time I come! Asian bistro is a nice sushi place in the new Hartford shopping plaza right in the back where planet fitness is. They have a huge menu, great lunch specials at great prices, a full bar, dining area, and habachi area as well. The seaweed salad is to die for, as well as the house salad with ginger dressing that I always get. The specialty rolls are my favorite, the Godzilla and sweet potato are my top 2. This place is always dead when I come though, and they usually only have one waiter or waitress. One time I came and it was getting a bit busy and they still only had 1 waiter working.

horrible service. I ordered two sushi rolls and shrimp fried rice to go. I placed my order at 530 for a 615 pick up. I called them back five minutes after I placed my order to say I wanted brown rice and he cut me off and said«no I can’t to it its too late I already started making it». It was 530. He made my food 45 minutes early AND refused to substitute for brown rice. Once I threatened to cancel my order he reluctantly agreed to remake it. Needless to say I won’t be ordering there again. So rude!

Not my favorite sushi joint, when I went, another party member specifically ordered fried rice but received white. Asked for lemon in my ice water and received none. I did enjoy the chicken pad thai, however. The taste was unique and it really appealed to me. The crab roll I ordered had a mexican twist. I didn’t hate it!

Love coming here for sushi, definitely my go to sushi joint, especially after just working out at the gym. I did take away a star because while the food is amazing the wait staff leaves much to be desired. They are friendly enough but not very attentive and it seems they could benefit from some training or better management. But if you want a quiet place to have the best sushi you’ve ever tasted this place is highly recommended!

Horrible service! Extremely rude staff. They laugh at customers and God only knows how they treat the food if they can’t even treat their customers well.

Not sure what the complaints are about service at this place because my experience was superb. The food was excellent and the fish was fresh. The rolls were expertly done and the sushi chef knows his stuff. I eat a lot of sushi all over the country and this place is in my top 10. I’ll definitely be coming back again!

The only reason I’m giving Asian bistro 2 stars is because the food is really good. The sushi prices are a great deal and the sushi is really good. Get the sweet potato roll! It’s the best I’ve ever had. I really wish the service wasn’t so bad or else I would give this place more starts. I’ve been here more than 5 times and each time the service is equally as awful. This place would be packed every night if they servers weren’t so poorly invested in the customers. The food is great, the location is great; this is a business sitting on a gold mine if it was managed slightly better.

Worst service ever. I wish I could give this place zero stars. So it all started after we got our soup. I was in the middle of eating it as the waiter just pushes it away with my entrée plate and it ends up spilling into my entrée plate and my phone! He didn’t apologize and gave my husband and I so much attitude and gave us a dirty look and made rude comments after asking if he could be more careful. We asked to speak to the manager but he decided to curse at me and tell me that the manager is his brother so it doesn’t matter what I say. Yeah this place had cheap sushi, but you get what you pay for. NEVERGOINGBACK! Stick to Mitsuba in New Hartford, great service and food!

I used to eat there. The problem was not the food; it’s the service. The problems that they have is that they need to put the customer first and foremost. Inside the restaurant is very boring. Is it a Chinese place or Japanese? I don’t know. The menu is too large. It needs to be simple to work. This place needs a total make over. Again I can’t stress enough that the customer needs to come first to be a successful restaurant. I will never eat there again.

Best sushi in town for the price. Sit at the bar. Order their specialty rolls; it’s what they do best. Don’t come here for anything else(they also have Chinese food on the menu). If you’re coming here because you kind of like sushi and always order California rolls that’s what you’re going to get.

Let me preface this review by stating I’m mildly annoyed to start with. I had a coupon and decided to try them out. They tried to tell me first that my coupon was for a different restaurant down the road(it wasn’t), and then told me that they weren’t in the program anymore and wouldn’t honor any certificates. A check online told me they’re still listed. If you’re going to offer a deal and then won’t honor it when all the rules are abided by that just ticks me off and makes me not come back. I probably would have come back otherwise. But in getting them to try and address the issue the response was merely a shrug. Seems to align with other reviews that the service is lackluster at best. That being said the food is your normal asian cuisine, nothing spectacular that you can’t find elsewhere. Seems to be a larger selection than some places. Sushi is just regular sushi. Ginger is pretty bland though for some reason. The red curry chicken did have a nice kick to it that you don’t always find even if you’re looking for spice.

SUSHIROLLSFORTHREEBUCKS?! WHATTT??! So where I’m from, sushi is way more expensive, so if that doesn’t sound like a deliciously amazing deal, then I don’t know WHATIS! Seriously, decent sushi for a great price. They used to just have Monday to Wednesday 50% off all sushi, but they have it ALLTHETIME now! I recommend the shrimp tempura roll and the volcano roll. The bento boxes are also amazing. You get a ton of food(soup, hot/cold app, entrée, sushi, and rice) for only $ 12.95. I’ve gone several times now and the waitresses have been very nice every time. If you speak some Chinese, they’ll treat you especially well. It’s very hard to get there but I think another reviewer described it correctly. Basically, i’s behind the New Hartford mall. They do deliver, but if you want it really fresh, you definitely have to go there. Go get yoself some sushi!!!

Went again today and ordered the bento box special, but this time with different selections! I also ordered lots of sushi too. This time I got sweet and sour chicken, shrimp tempura, sashimi, and spider(soft shelled crab) roll. The chicken and shrimp tempura were delicious and the sashimi was nice, thick, and fresh. But I was a little disappointed with the spider roll. It wasn’t fried enough and there was also too much cucumbers and lettuce in the roll that I couldn’t really taste the crab. It was also drowned in sauce. My date got all sushi: shrimp tempura, alaskan, and godzilla roll. Everything was good except for the godzilla roll. The mixture of the different ingredients didn’t go too well so we didn’t really enjoy it. It might have been the cooked salmon as we prefer raw fish in sushi, but the flavor was just drowned out with sauce. Aside from the spider roll and godzilla roll, everything was really delicious. Service is fast and friendly and the prices are cheap. I will definitely be coming back.

So I came back to Utica for my annual visit to see the family :) My sister was raving about this place. I was like there is no way a sushi place is going to survive this area. The only sushi I have ever seen here is from the Chinese Buffets and they usually only serve California rolls. Unexpectedly this place was pretty cool. They have half price sushi a few days throughout the week. They do a very good job of presentation and it tastes great too. I had their Dragon roll, their eel and avocado, and some spicy crunchy salmon roll. I didn’t really like the spicy salmon(was sort of like minced fish to me). But the eel was pretty good. I would totally come back. They were just opening from what I could tell so they hadn’t received their liqueur license yet. It was sad because they had what looked like it will be quite a nice bar too. I hope to return next time I am in town. Please Utica don’t let this place go to waste.
