First of all, the restaurant had a nice ambiance in a modern hotel lobby. It was bright, airy & inviting. Food was above average given the area. The wild arugula salad was very flavorful, the parmigiana added a lot of depth. That being said, it was a mistake when I replaced the fried chicken with baked chicken breast, the latter of which was somewhat dry & tough. Probably cooked 20 min ago & left under a heating lamp. My chocolate fudge cake was dense & heavy. I’d have appreciated some mango purée or whipped cream to lighten it up. Service at the bar, was almost non-existent. One of my patron diners had to wave down a bus boy to get some water. My water glass was empty most of the time. Overall, slightly spotty experience. I’m curious what sort of adjustments the restaurant would make to take it to the next level.

Excellent food and dining atmosphere. Try the wood roasted oysters, they are to die for. And the gunpowder mushrooms — a must!

We ordered pancakes and eggs with toast. Other than the side of chickpeas our breakfast was very disappointed. To add to the disappointment is the price tag. Will not go there again.

Located in the lobby of The Study, this bright and airy spot features a rotating seasonal menu and houses the comfiest couches to catch up with friends(or read the newspaper if you’re into that). There’s various sizes tables/coffee table areas and also a full service bar if you’re just looking for a quick drink. The folks at the bar are friendly, efficient, and knowledgable of the area. I came for brunch on the weekend and tried the Banana Foster French Toast which errs on the sweet side(even for me, and I have a pretty strong sweet tooth). It was fluffy and very tasty, but ask for the ice cream on the side if you’re worried about the dish being too sweet! Or ask your server to recommend a savory dishes to complement this since it’s more like a dessert anyway.

One of the best brunches and dinners I’ve ever had. The scallops were a personal favorite of mine and were seared to perfection with excellent fresh flavor. Excellent ambiance and service during both of my visits. Better then any in house restaurant I’ve ever dined at.

No complaints about most of the food. It was good but not memorable. Price is moderate. I gave it two stars because the attitude of both the hostess and waitress was very condescending. You definitely did not get the impression that anyone enjoyed their jobs! Don’t expect a warm welcome or a high level of service let alone above and beyond service. I ordered an Irish coffee and was given a lukewarm cup of black coffee, a pitcher of cream and a shot class of Irish whiskey. Not only did I have to make it make myself but there were no garnishments … No whipped cream, sugared rim around the cup or mint. My friend’s tomato soup tasted like her Bloody Mary only slightly warmed up. My husband asked for fresh brewed ice tea and was told«we don’t have that today». Most wait staff would have made hot tea and then poured it over ice. The atmosphere is unique but I would not return here. We didn’t appreciate being made to feel any requests were a bother, especially since we aren’t that difficult to please.

The food was awesome and the service was very good. Courteous staff and we felt welcomed. The roasted oysters were absolutely unreal. The white clam risotto was also fantastic. The ONLY thing that is keeping me from giving it a 5th star is where we were sitting. Along the back they have a low, long mirror that runs the length of the wall. From where I was sitting(directly across from it) it made me very dizzy. Definitely recommend this great place.

Enjoyed the Hot Apple Caramel Doughnuts with a side of Heritage Bacon, followed by the Kale Salad with Salmon. Everything was excellently prepared and really tasty. All washed down with a bottle of Veuve Clicquot.

Hadn’t been back in months. Am extremely impressed. One thing about dining on a busy day is that busy days often propel the kitchen into doing great things. Such was the case today. Extremely grateful for the hospitality and reception. I sat at the bar counter to dine. Just perfect for a solo. Barkeep was as friendly and kind as a barkeep can and ought be. I settled on a nice glass of Riesling once we dispensed with a bottle which tasted like flat champagne. LOL. But, its all good. The dining room was a bustling inner circle metropolis today. With a SOHO New York City vibe, it reminded me of a number of European hotel restaurants. Its been a while since I’ve enjoyed this type of atmosphere. Its unique in CT and adjacent to all of YALEUNIVERSITY, which makes it a vital spot when the dining room is so crowded. I walked out feeling as if I had earned additional post-graduate university credits by osmosis. [I live in the CT countryside… don’t ask]. But I digress. I ordered a wedged salad with blue cheese, smoked bacon bits and beets. DELICIOUS. I also asked for two large cocktail shrimp. They were super fresh [utre important] and crisp. I also requested bread. With a meal ticket close to $ 45, I was shocked they charged me $ 3 extra for the bread, so there it is. EUROPE. I couldn’t resist dessert and splurged on a lemon curd panna cotta with lemon sorbet. I barely made a dent in this dish as I was satiated, but had a craving to taste it. Yums. Happy for the experience. A thank you to everyone.

HIghlights: –Nice ambiance, not too noisy, tables spaced far enough apart –very nice waitress –amuse bouche — arancini was a welcome surprise though seriously over salted –roasted octopus — super flavorful –baked ricotta cheese –crispy warm bread –hand cut penne with lamb ragu Low points: –oversalting killed the scallops over spaghetti squash(use less capers and less salt) –over cooking dried out the branzino –and slow kitchen(especially surprising given that we were told that we had to vacate by 9PM for an event) — entrees took over an hour

I’ve been here twice: once during restaurant week and once for brunch on a regular Sunday. The food has always been good, and I’ve never had any complaints. I don’t recall what I ate for restaurant week, so that’s why this place gets a star knocked off. However, I do remember that you always get started with a bread basket that has a wonderful range of breads and house-made butter, which I always enjoy! For brunch, I got the whipped chicken liver mousse bagel, which was quite memorable and was certainly something that I can see myself eating again. Granted, paying $ 20 for a bagel seems excessive, but I guarantee that the chicken liver mousse with bacon jam is not something you will find at your nearest Dunkin Donuts(funnily, there’s one down the street). Service is good but rather bizarre. For our brunch service, we were served by a rather anxious — but efficient — waitress who could not wait to take our order or clear our meal. Hopefully we don’t get her next time. Yes, next time. This is possibly the best brunch you’ll get in New Haven.

This restaurant is a part of the Study hotel and it is definitely one the most popping attached-to-a-hotel eateries that I have ever seen. Definitely for good reason: The food here is pricey but generally worth the $$$. I’ve had everything from snacks like fried chicken, spring rolls, and meat and cheese platters to full on entrees like steak and sea bass. Generally, they have all been highly satisfying. The portion sizes are also generous. Came here for dinner last night and both the fish and steak in particular stood out: The fish was extremely tender and absolutely melted in my mouth. The seasoning was on point. The steak was also good(make sure to get it medium rare though as opposed to well done as medium really allows the flavors to come out). The drinks here are super strong. They have a variety of cocktails, wines, beers-just about every type of alcohol you may want. Last night I tried the Shiso Grande, a rum-based fruity drink that the bartender mixed for me, and the 20 year port for dessert. Wasn’t the hugest fan of the Shiso Grande(vodka-based with strawberries)-was a little too sweet but overall pretty enjoyable. I really liked the special drink the bartender mixed(also thought it was great that this was an option) and the port for dessert was a great finish to the evening. Service here is generally good. We were with a large party celebrating a birthday and everyone was well attended throughout the evening. Décor is classy/intimate. Good for date night. Overall, would definitely recommend! It’s a little too pricey for everyday go-to dining, but worth the investment once in a while for sure!

Love love loved brunch here. Made reservations with a friend for 11:30am on a Sunday. Wasn’t as busy as I thought and even though we arrived a but early we were seated right away. Hostess was nice, took our drink order while seating us. Ordered a mimosa, a brunch staple — it was delicious! Our waiter was attentive and polite. We ordered the apple doughnuts which were to die for. For my meal I ordered huevos estudiados with a side of bacon. My friend also ordered a side of bacon with her blueberry pancakes(which looked amazing!). We really should have ordered one side. 6 pieces per side! My food was fantastic. The ingredients were fresh, the eggs were perfect. The location is beautiful and the restaurant as a whole is visually stunning. Cannot wait to eat here again!

Pros: Generally, food is good. Cons: Service, hostess, reservation Last minute on a Friday night in Jan 2015 decided to check this place out. We were very excited to try this place. Called at 8pm hoping with some wait we could get a table. We were told that there was no availability until after 9. Decided to go anyway since we were close and thought that worst case scenario we could eat at the bar. We did end up sitting at the bar and had multiple courses. The chicken liver pâté and truffle ricotta were among the memorable items. We were there until after 10pm. So here’s the problem. When we arrived, there were multiple empty tables(We counted 7) throughout the dinning room that we could see. None of these tables filled while we were there. Our experience could have been much more pleasant had we sat on a dinning room table instead of the bar. At the end, I asked to speak to the manager in order to give him a constructive criticism so he could see what happened and better train the hostess staff. Surprisingly, he had no response. Gave no explanation and didn’t even say things like, «I’m sorry I’ll look into it and see what went wrong» bla, bla, bla, Unfortunately, hosting and professionalism in the restaurant business is slowly becoming a dying art. To me(and I’m certain to most who know something about restaurant business) it is just as important as that chicken liver pâté and truffle ricotta. THEFIRSTIMPRESSION, PROFESSIONALISM(Mr manager) is soooooo important. Just called them again(6⁄2015) to make a reservation. The person on the phone was utterly unprofessional and rude. I asked what availabilities they had for tonight. She said«hold on.» Instead of «please hold let me see what I have available» etc. During the rest of my conversation with her she was unwelcoming, cold, unprofessional. Someone who answers a phone to a restaurant should be professional, pleasant, and welcoming. Canceled the reservation. Not coming back.

Went here for restaurant week lunch. I had the kale caesar, spring pea falafel, and butterscotch pudding. The salad was amazing mostly because of the amazing dressing. Otherwise, it was literally just kale. But still great nonetheless. The falafel was a very interesting spin on falafel, made with peas vs. chickpeas. It also had some goat cheese and beet purée which made for an interesting and tasty combination. I’m not sure it should really be called falafel because it tastes so completely different from the real thing, but it was good so I can’t really complain. The butterscotch pudding was my favorite part of the meal. Tasted like a really great caramel candy bar. This place was great for restaurant week, but otherwise it is on the pricier side and I’m not completely convinced that the food quite matches up to the price tag. The food was very good though, and seems like a safe bet if you’re looking for a nicer-than-average meal.

Heirloom — New Haven, CT — 3÷13÷2015 As per usual I found them online and the convenience of booking reservations via the Internet is just the greatest thing since sliced bread. This is the first restaurant I have walked into where your reserved table had a written thank you and welcome note waiting for you on arrival. What a phenomenal touch. Such a simple yet powerful message that screams; «we want your business and are glad you chose us»… My Iceberg Wedge salad with its chunks of beets and bacon was Devine… Not served the way most restaurants do but laid out flat with the toppings on top… My wife’s appetizer with its arugula, prosciutto, fresh mozzarella set the stage for the main event… The chefs surprise of bread served with a warm ricotta cheese, thyme and truffle was a wonderfully unexpected surprise… The trouble was it’s really good and I don’t want to fill up before the main course comes out… The salmon was absolutely perfect… Cherry Wood Roasted Organic salmon… Served with Quinoa, asparagus, radish, sugar snap peas apple & dill, maple-carrot ginger citronette… Amazing! Although I don’t Ordinarily Oder scallops for a main course but the description sounded really great. Cooked to perfection accompanied by a generous helping of caramelized spaghetti squash, sage, capers, citrus and sultanas. It was plated so well I almost felt bad eating it… For dessert we shares a pear cobbler with a generous helping of ice cream. The pear was nice and soft, cooked to perfection in a flaky pastry served nice and warm. Simply amazing! You need to add this place as a stop on your gastronomic bucket list. I highly recommend it!

I have been to this place twice, once for lunch and today for restaurant week. I like it because it is a farm to table place and you know you are eating good produce. The menu is seasonal as a result and it is always fun to check what they are serving. I always leave the place feeling just right, never too stuffed. I enjoyed their baked ricotta starters, cheddar tomato soup and Pasta dishes. Service here is excellent and fast! For our meal today, my friends ordered their mussels dish for mains. When their mussels arrived they requested for bread and our waiter generously brought out a loaf of delicious bread even though it was not part of the meal. Our waters were topped off frequently and everything arrived at a good pace. Would definitely want to try their dinners at some point.

The food is amazing. The have valet parking so you don’t have to deal with that. The food is from local farms as much as possible. They have a fabulous brunch. The prices aren’t ridiculous. The participate in restaurant week. BUT, be prepared, the service is SOOOOOOOO slow. Be prepared for it to take 10 minutes to have someone come say hello. Another 10 for them to come back to take your drink order and another 10 to get your drink, usually more like 15. Then your order is placed. The table next to us with three kids was smart– they brought a deck of cards with them!

It was love at first sight(and bite!) at Heirloom — I never wanted to leave! I came here for an early brunch on a Saturday with my sister and was thrilled to find some bar seats open as they apparently fill up with reservations far in advance. Absolutely stunning décor — modern, simplistic, and I especially loved all the floral accents and greenery that decorated the tables and wall fixtures. Great that they also support local Yale art students with their art throughout the restaurant. The service was exceptional — friendly, helpful, and attentive. The bartender overheard my sister say she gave up alcohol for lent(bless her soul), and made her one of the best virgin cocktails I have ever had! I thoroughly enjoyed my Jack & the Beanstalk: Plymouth Gin, fresh grapefruit and lemon juices. My food choice was a tough one — literally everything on their brunch menu sounded fantastic. I saw the bananas foster french toast whiz by several times and was tempted, but decided to save the inevitable diabetic coma for my next visit. Per our bartender’s recommendation, I went with the Huevos Estudiados: smoked turkey, black beans, cojita cheese, avocado slices, red onion, salsa rona, fresh cilantro & two fried eggs with a delicious cornbread muffin. The only thing wrong with this dish was that it disappeared from my plate too quickly and left me craving more. My sister had the Stongington Red Shrimp & Grits: heirloom chorizo, green onions, lemon, crème fraîche over cheddar antebellum grits. Also delicious! I cannot wait to come back to try their lunch and dinner menus! A total home run.

I must’ve been living under a rock. Before today, I don’t ever remember having been to this part of New Haven. Nestled in The Study at Yale, you might not know that this place even exists. Don’t bother parking your car, who knows where you’ll find a spot. Valet service is offered at the main entrance to the building. Tip: When you visit Heirloom, and you should visit, request Karissa as your server. Karissa was very friendly and attentive. She is sure to make your visit as enjoyable as ours was. Let me just warm you, copious amounts of food were consumed during this adventure. Joining me on this trip, was my husband, his mother and our son. We were seated for Saturday Brunch, at 11:00 am(just before the crowds). While looking over our menus, we snacked on fresh muffins and croissants, served on a heated skillet. We sipped on Mimosas and coffee, along with bottled water. After many minutes of deliberation, we decided to splurge on a ½ dozen of Island Creek Oysters. They were clean, fresh and full of briny goodness. The cocktail sauce that accompanied them, was just spicy enough and not too overpowering. Next we were served the Hot Caramel-Apple Doughnuts, almost popover like in texture, but similar to an apple fritter. These doughnuts are served with a honey and vanilla sauce, but are sweet enough with their simple cinnamon and sugar dusting. Finishing off our first round, a waiter delivered unto us, a ceramic dish filled with a creamy ricotta, topped with fresh thyme and truffle oil. I quickly grabbed the dish spread this atop a piece of warm, crusty bread… I was in Heaven. As we finished snacking, 3 servers came out with our entrees. My husband ordered the Ploughman’s Plate, a board with assorted meats, cheeses, pickles, marmalade and toast. My mother in law had chosen the Banana’s Foster French Toast, Brioche covered in pecans and caramel toffee bananas and topped with a bourbon butter pecan gelato. I had decided on the Smoked Maine Trout Melt. This open faced sandwich is served on a 2″ thick piece of wheat toast, with radish, capers, pickle and provolone cheese. The fish is served as a spread, which is also a part of their Coastal Platter. While we were all very impressed with our meals, not one of us could eat more than half. We left with a very large«doggie bag», full tummies and smiles on our faces. We can not wait to go back and check out the dinner menu.
