The Study at Yale

I was really happy with my stay here. I arrived after midnight and the valet was right there, check-​in was quick and easy. The room was very nice, spacious, huge desk, and fancy bathroom.
Breakfast in the morning was great.

This hotel feels very boutique like. The finish is modern yet simple. The room was clean and spacious. This time the view from our room was of campus which was beautiful. Whilst on a previous stay we were on the road side which was a little noisier.
However, the hotel does lack some desired features such as sockets by the bed, perhaps a fridge to keep cool all the left overs you have from all the lovely restaurants and most importantly just access to hot boiling drinking water either by putting a kettle in the room or by having something in the lobby. Also I just want to add that the linen cover on the duvet did become a nuisance. So as unhygienic as it was, we did end up just taking it off, just as I imagine occupants before us have done. Ewwwww!
Overall I love the study and would stay again!

This is a perfect example of what a hotel should be. The staff is genial, prompt, and professional. The room was modern and was set up with the working professional in mind. We received an upgrade upon arrival and the valet service was excellent. The view of old Yale campus was spectacular, and the location allows for walking to all major attractions (The Yale Art Gallary). Will def. stay here in the future.

I spend two nights at The Study at Yale. The guestrooms are comfortable with a contemporary décor. The onsite restaurant, Heirloom offers a tasty seasonal menu. The fitness center is small but adequate for a basic carido workout (if needed, they have free passes to a large off-​site gym). And its location in the heart of downtown New Haven makes it ideal for touring the city and Yale.
TIPS: 1) If you are easily bothered by street noise, request a room in the back of the hotel or one that is on the 4^th floor or above if in the front. 2) When checking in, ask about the availability of free tickets to Yale events.
WARNING: Outlets near the bed are lacking.

I was up at Yale for business, and they put us up at the «best hotel in New Haven.» Key emphasis here is the phrase «in New Haven.»
If you asked me to use a piece of literature to describe The Study at Yale, it would be «Goldilocks and the Three Bears,» except instead of everything being justttt right, everything was just mediocre– not too terrible, not too great– justttt fiiiine.
The bed was fine– not too hard, not too soft. The bathroom was fine, too– not luxurious, not quite minimalist, not too large, not too small. The room generally was fine– not classic, not modern– in fact, very serviceable, a little reminiscent of a dorm.
The lobby was a little more than fine and is, in my opinion, the best part of The Study (other than its ideal location). Meant to evoke a study, there are desks, couches, coffee tables, books, and a coffee bar. The atmosphere is relaxing and cozy and studious, exactly what you’d think of Yale.
The service was a little less than fine: there was no breakfast card in my room, though a colleague’s breakfast call at 7:00 AM never came (and there is nothing more disappointing than failing to wake up to the smell of bacon and, in fact, missing your train altogether), so perhaps I should be grateful it was missing. The receptionist working the front desk in the morning was less than helpful and far from friendly, though I thankfully just barely managed to make my train (no thanks to her).
The Study is a fine hotel, but «fine» in the sense of «okay» and certainly not in the sense of high-​end or amazing. It may very well be the best hotel in New Haven, but it just doesn’t even begin to stack up against other similarly priced and rated hotels in cities like Boston, Chicago, and New York. If there were any other viable options in New Haven, I, like Goldilocks, would prefer to open the door, run out, and never return to The Study again.

Rooms were nice and service was good except for the valet. We had a group of people leaving for an event and the valet was completely disorganized. It was over 45 minutes until we got our car, so if you want to get out in a reasonable amount of time park in a lot nearby.

Check in was easy and the location is perfect for visiting Yale campus. The view of Yale was great! Our parlor suite was really nice with a «study» attached to it. They were very accommodating about giving us 2 rollaway beds!
I marked one star off for very loud early morning noise and because we had to wait 15 minutes for our car…
Would stay here again!

Located in probably the most ideal spot at Yale, the Study is a fabulous hotel. The rooms are clean and spacious. The staff is very friendly. The hotel restaurant is excellent and there are many restaurants to choose from right outside the hotel. The lobby has an open layout with desks, couches and a coffee bar to hang out and work. Valet parking is easy. Quick access to all of Yale and New Haven all in walking distance. I highly recommend this hotel.

Nicest hotel in New Haven — if given the choice I’d prefer the Study over the Omni although it is often sufficiently more expensive not to justify it.
Excellent décor, very comfortable, great location, wonderful bar (among the nicest in the city).

My favorite pretentious restaurant in New Haven. High quality, not absurdly priced. There’s a giant pair of glasses outside, decoration I suppose, because people use glasses to read and or «study.» GET IT?

When we pulled up to The Study, a guy approached our car and asked if we were staying at the hotel. He was so schlubby and laid-​back that I literally looked him up and down to make sure he was actually a hotel employee before I answered and gave him the car keys. He did have on a hat and a polo with the hotel’s logo, but it was a really crummy first impression. We asked if our car was okay where it was parked, and he literally just stared at us.
Things got better as we checked in. The lobby was full of activity with people chatting, reading, getting beverages from the drink kiosk, and heading into and out of Heirloom, the restaurant on the first floor.
Our room was comfortable and spacious with an awesome view of the city and a window that ran the length of the bedroom and bathroom so you could see it from just about anywhere. Speaking of the bathroom, it was amazing! There’s a separate room for the toilet, and the stand-​up shower had great pressure and fantastic toiletries. I also appreciated the hair dryer since I’m a light packer and the free WiFi since I’m addicted to technology.
Most of the people staying at the hotel seemed to be there on business and were pretty dressed up. The fella and I were there for pleasure and dressed super casual, so there were a few times I didn’t feel chi chi enough to be there… causality of the location, I suppose!

I have stayed at The Study on a couple of occasions while guest speaking at the University. I have always found the staff and the room as pleasant and helpful.
The rooms are very spacious and have a large window facing desk which was great for any work related needs.
It is centrally located to the campus.
I highly recommend you stay that this hotel.

When I entered this hotel I had felt so good. We were on our fun thanksgiving road trip.
I just wanted to enjoy the college-​town, relax, and catch up on sleep. when we got up in the morning, we woke up with bite marks. Yikes. All over, itchy. Being in the healthcare profession I knew that those were bed bugs bites… We brought the issue up with the management who promised to take care of the issue. We weren’t looking for anything, just asking them to clean and be ready for the next set of guests, we were promised that they would call us with the information after they check. No one called or answered our calls. We took it upto the public health and higher authorities after which they called to say sorry that we were ignored.
In summary. Bed bugs… please don’t waste your money or ruin your vacation/​sleep at this hotel. One week later we were still freaking out and applying medications on our bites

This past year, I held our global conference at the Study. We were a little concerned about the amount of space for a large amount of people (up to 70 attendees) and whether we the hotel would be prepared. There was enough space, and the conference staff were absolutely prepared.
There are about 4 – 5 rooms, including a large room that thankfully just held the 70 people that we had attending. Another 10 or 15 people and it would have been too big.
The staff was phenomenal. We had a number of times when we required the rooms to be rearranged, and the staff was completely on top of it. Also, they cleaned up our mess after lunch timely.
My expectations for the food was low, as conference food is typically lackluster. The Study blew me away. The lunches were not just normal fare, and it wasn’t the really heavy stuff you sometimes get at conferences. They had creative wraps and salads, as well as a soup selection. In addition, we had some vegetarians, and they had a veg dish each day which was greatly appreciated.
The hotel has a bit of a European flare, and our foreign visitors love staying here. The restaurant is excellent, and the service is wonderful. It is really very difficult for a hotel to exceed expectations for a conference with many people from different parts of the world, but The Study succeeded. Highly recommend for your conference.

Stayed here for one Saturday night. We had a great stay, really cool lobby and theme. The rooms are fairly minimalist, but I think that’s what they were going for. Really cool, boutiquey themed hotel. It’s also fairly close to campus and right in the middle of the Yale campus area. Great, helpful staff. Mostly younger college students, but so wanting to be helpful!
Would definitely suggest staying here if you’re visiting New Haven.

This is simply a superb hotel. I already can’t wait to stay here again, but that means I will have to come up with a reason to go back to New Haven. Well, there’s Yale. Hmmm…
Located across the street from the Yale School of Art and a short walk from the School of Drama, the Center for British Art and other Yale goodies, the Study at Yale is a modern, comfortable hotel for the bookworm who desires a beautiful place to stay. It is within reasonable walking distance of the New Haven-​State Street MetroNorth station, although not from New Haven-​Union Station — you’ll have to take a cab or the bus. Those who are driving to the hotel can park in the garage next to the hotel, as there is no readily available street parking.
From the bookshelves in the lobby and the small selection of offerings from The Strand for sale — proceeds go to support reading programs in New Haven — the entire hotel is set up to appeal to those who love all things bookish, and who enjoy staying at quality hotels. Rooms here are nicely appointed. I stayed in a room with a great king-​sized bed and a view overlooking busy Chapel Street. The bed was a nice, soft featherbed with comfortable pillows and covers, as well as a nice blanket at the foot. It had «The Study at Yale» embroidered across it, which I thought was a nice touch.
Other items emblazoned with the «Study» logo include the notepaper and freshly-​sharpened pencils on the desk, which stocks free maps of the Yale campus and a list of cultural events taking place in the area, as well as a bookmark and a postcard depicting — what else? — books. (You can mail it from the hotel, too. The front desk sells stamps.) My room included a surprisingly nice leather chair, an iPod docking station, free Wi-​Fi and a lovely bathroom. There was no shower/​tub combination to be found here. Instead, there was just a straight-​up tiled shower with pretty glass doors. The housekeeping staff is also environmentally friendly and will only change the bath towels every couple of days unless you specifically request new ones, in order to cut down on the amount of water used in the laundering process. Who loves the earth? The Study at Yale, that’s who!
The hotel has an on-​site restaurant, which I did not try, but I can attest to the quality of The Study’s culinary offerings. Whoever is in charge of the kitchen at this hotel is doing a good job. The Study at Yale serves great corn chowder, for example, and I hate corn.
Simply put, this hotel is a gem. The staff is gracious and were helpful in clearing up a payment issue I had prior to the checkout process, and they want to ensure that their guests have a comfortable stay. After all, nothing says «welcome» like the jar of cookies at the front desk! If you need to take home a memento, pick up one of the handsome mugs printed with «The Study at Yale,» which are on sale in the lobby for $ 7. While the staff wraps your purchase, contemplate the art on the walls created by Yale students, and plot your next return to The Study.

Came here for an event. Did not sleep here.
I like the concept– it’s refreshing– considering the omnipresent architectural style around Yale. The wall of windows, Danish style open book shelves divides space w contemporary style yet comfortable & inviting lounge area. Natural elements & color scheme transition nicely into each area. @ reception complimentary petite pastries & veggie frittata, Illy Coffee, variety of reading material.
Professional yet congenial staff. An artist’s Photography display on view. The restrooms are cool– bamboo, granite, porcelain, bundles of fresh cotton hand towels in reed baskets, great hardware. Ambient back ground music. Fresh scents of herbs & citrus.
The conference/​event room was efficient, clean, good acoustics.

This is really the only quality place to stay in New Haven. The Omni is old and needs update. The Courtyard is full of loud families. The Study is chill, cool and modern, with great service.
My husband and I love the look of the rooms and we enjoy the big bright windows, free wifi, nice lobby to hang with magazines provided, the great leather chair to sink into.
We love this place.

At last there is a luxury boutique hotel in downtown New Haven! If only it could have opened while I was still a student, so my parents could stay in it. Still, it is better late than never.
The service is cheerful. The rooms are bright, spare, and beautiful. The leather furnishings, internet, and bookish décor are all great. There is simply no nicer place to stay in New Haven, and you may well be able to get a room here cheaper than at the Omni, to boot.
I haven’t been to the hotel restaurant (which has a separate Unilocal!entry), and I gather it is decent but overpriced; but there’s lots of good stuff nearby, so don’t worry about it.

3.5 stars, really. Not a bad addition to New Haven. The rooms are clean and modern, with a decent amount of space. The bathrooms are stocked, but TINY (that’s to be expected in a «boutique» hotel). Service was decent – although a little stuck up. Although it’s a new hotel – I think they are a bit too overpriced.
Rooms and layout are definitely better than the Omni (which is showing it’s age), location rocks-​right next to the art museum… but still, not the best boutique hotel I’ve stayed at (that would be any hotel in the Kimpton chain). I would stay again if I had to.
