It took me a while to wrap my head around the fact that the best bibimbap I’ve ever had anywhere – including New York and California – is from this food truck in New Haven, not exactly a go-to town for Korean food. But it’s true, and on top of that, the food is cheap! Bibimbap has never been my favorite Korean dish because I’ve always thought it’s a little bland, with too much veggie and too little meat. But one look at the pictures here will tell you that this is not the case here. Jung does not skimp on his meat, which is freshly grilled and absolutely delicious. You can also ask for his equally delicious kimchi, for no additional charge!

OMG! I fell in love at first bite and so happy Unilocal brought us together. Jung is so friendly and lively and his food taste every bit the same. I intend to try something new with every return if I can get my mind off of the Bibimbap. Only thing I was missing while waiting was a little K-pop, my heart would have exploded.

Jung’s Kimchi Corner is one of my absolute FAVORITE food carts in New Haven. Conveniently and consistently located on Cedar St. across from the medical school, Jung’s Kimchi Corner is the place to go for lunch. The signature Korean dish, beef bibimbap, is made to perfection here and features many different vegetables, along with white rice, well seasoned beef, and a fried egg on top. The portion sizes are large compared to the other food carts around — and always leaves you full. What distinguishes Jung’s Kimchi Corner the most however, is the attention to detail and exceptional customer service he provides. He always takes the time to prepare each meal the way the customer wants it, creating an individualized experience that leaves people wanting to come back for more. I haven’t tried any of the other dishes, or meats(spicy pork or chicken), but I’m confident that they too are exceptional. The owner, Jung, used to have a restaurant to display his talents, but it didn’t work out. It’s been a long time since then, so I hope he’ll consider opening one up again so that New Haven can enjoy more great Korean food! In the meantime, I hope to see you at the cart!

This is a great find. Super fast, tasty, and cheap. The bibimbap is great — the only thing that could make it better is if they could figure out a way to keep the egg yolk runny in those to go containers(but I’m pretty sure this is next to impossible, sigh). Either way, surprisingly great bibimbap from a food cart. Huge portion that is easily enough for two meals. Still, if you’re looking for the best bibimbap in the area, definitely check out the inconspicuous Oriental Pantry Grocery & Gifts on Orange Street. Excited to come back and try something else!

I had the spicy pork bibimbap for $ 7. Pretty sure I want to try everything on Jung’s menu. Servings were huge and most importantly, delicious! I’m glad that there’s something besides Midori, Yamadora, or Seoul BBQ that I can add to my list of go-to Korean eats when I feel the itch and don’t want to cook it myself!

The best bibimbap in New Haven is found at a small food cart down by the medical school, only open on weekdays for lunch. You can get a great serving of bibimbap here for $ 6 – 8, and it’s as real as it gets. The lunch combos, which consist of kimchi, japchae(Korean glass noodles), bean sprouts, meat of choice and rice are also awesome. My favorite options are the spicy pork bulgogi and the beef bulgogi. Jung is a pretty cool guy who seems to enjoy the simplicity and freedom offered by the food cart. It’s a shame he’s not interested in running a brick and mortar establishment or doing catering!

For under $ 6, you can get a filling, delicious lunch of Korean food. Great for days when the hospital cafeteria just isn’t cutting it anymore. My favorite is the Kimchi Tofu Salad. I don’t feel quite as unhealthy since I get some greens along with my tofu and kimchi for this particular dish. There is always a line, as this place is known and loved by most everyone who has frequented the carts. It’s definitely worth the wait, though!

One of my favorite carts. The Kimchi is excellent and the lunch combos are such a good deal. I usually have leftovers for dinner.

I recently started working at Yale and can finally subject myself to the worldly culinary offerings of the numerous food carts on Cedar St. Jung’s Korean food cart is one of the more famous ones here and is the only cart that offers Korean food in this sea of mostly Asian-themed cuisines. And considering that decent Korean food is nearly impossible to find in New Haven, Jung’s Kimchi Corner is a true gem. His cart is located next to Lean’s Vietnamese cart about halfway down Cedar. Being that I am all about a wide variety of ingredients, flavors, and textures when it comes to my food decision making, I usually go with the bibimbop with bulgogi(marinated grilled beef). The bibimbop here comes with the some crisp and fresh banchan(julienned white radish pickled in a sweet vinegar, cold boiled bean sprouts with sesame oil, boiled spinach seasoned with sesame oil, kim chi), some coarsely chopped romaine lettuce, a side of japchae(stir fried sweet potato vermicelli in a light soy sauce), a fried egg, and your protein of choice all over a hearty bed of rice. I posted a bunch of pics to give you that necessary visual. For $ 6.75, this is a serious steal for Korean eats, which tends to be the priciest of Asian cuisines. Plus Jung makes everything to order, so it’s guaranteed fresh! I actually asked Jung if he has a restaurant because I love his food so much, and his response was that he used to have one, but he made too many mistakes and only has the cart now. I encouraged him to open up another one, and I ask that you do the same! Maybe if his loyal patrons give him enough pressure he’ll open one up, because this town is in desperate need for a quality Korean restaurant!

I got the bulgogi lunch combo. I asked for it to be cooked with kimchi and it came with japchae and rice. Kimchi could have been spicier, but it was pretty delicious. Nice portions too.

Really good and fresh, especially for a street cart version of bibimbop. I had the bulgogi bibimbop. Comes with a gooey fried egg on top! Yum. Isn’t overloaded with rice– which is nice. I wanted to avoid the food coma. Has jap chae(cellophane noodle salad), spinach, lettuce, radish banchan and much else– with the gochuchang spicy red sauce. All for $ 6 and I still have some left for dinner.

Great lunches for $ 5-$ 6 at Jung’s: kimchi, bibimbop, innovative subs(a korean pork barbeque for instance) make this cart one of the top for the medical school cart scene.
