The barbecue pork soup is my go-to whenever I’m having lunch at the food carts on Cedar. The pork is so perfectly moist, and the broth has an extra kick of flavor because she adds her barbecue sauce to it. She also has really delicious dumplings and pork buns too!

I can’t give enough praise for Maggie and her amazing food. It is like being served by your sweet Grandma. She always has a smile and a kind word. She just seems so happy to share her food with us. I don’t eat meat and she always has 2 amazing selection to try. Favorites: the soup, pumpkin, book choy, rice dumpling. .it is all amazing. You will not be disappointed.

The food is excellent, but just as good a reason to stop by the Peking Edo cart is to chat with Maggie, the delightful owner. I’ve patronized her cart for about seven years now and have yet to run out of things to discuss. It feels more like you’re the guest in her home than at a food cart. Her dishes are an eclectic hodgepodge of Asian styles, but don’t get too hung up on choosing. It’s all delicious. Some personal favorites are the Japanese pumpkin, bok choy, meat sauce with hard-boiled eggs, and her pan-fried chicken dumplings. Her noodle soups are amazing and can be topped with any of the aforementioned items, as well as BBQ pork, roasted chicken, tofu… the list is practically endless. I’m not embarrassed to say that her soups constitute a significant fraction of my lunches during the frigid New Haven winter months. What’s even more incredible is that despite all the friendly chit-chat, she still manages to keep her line moving at a better clip than almost any other cart out there. Talk about multitasking!

One of the best food carts here for sure! I love the meat sauce on rice, it’s sooo good! I don’t know how authentic it is, but it tastes way better than any restaurants around here. Maggie’s really nice and friendly, she always load up generous portions. It’s like you get two meals with 5 bucks!

You don’t know about the joys of Maggie’s food cart?! Honey, you better ask somebody! First off, the cart may be called Peking Edo, but its Maggie that makes the cart feel like you are over at your Asian homegirl’s house waiting to be served some bangin noodle soup, bok choy, dumplings, squash, or what have you. Maggie remembers her customers and their orders. On occasion, Maggie may say to you, «I have something special for you today.» The woman is dead-on! Her portions are generous, and the lunch usually holds me over until dinner time. My favorite is the power-packed noodle soup; a hearty potion of veggies, noodles, meat, and a flavorful broth all for $ 5. Yum! Love me some Maggie’s lunch!

Kept hearing recommendations about this cart, so I gave it a shot. Very good! Had the grilled chicken, cabbage and white rice combo(with extra cilantro) and she threw in a few fried dumplings for cheap! Definitely going to go back, probably within the next few days.

Maggie’s food is excellent. I get her famous roasted chicken, bok choy and pumpkin over rice. Her soups are great. Her dumplings are great. Sometimes I get a bun for a treat. When I want something that’s not chicken, I like the Basil tofu, roast pork and cabbage dish. She has the best cart. You can taste the love and personality in her cooking. This us my favorite cart.

Today was my first time trying the food carts in the area. There was a bunch of carts in the area, especially Asian cuisines, but we decided on this cart as there wasn’t a line and the food looked decent. We got the combination rice box with three choices. The food was pretty good and very generous for $ 5. The only thing that makes me a bit wary is that the food is sitting in the cart through the day despite it being heated.

What can one say about Maggie. As a veteran of the Yale food carts, I can clearly say that Peking Edo is the best food they have to offer. Maggie, the cook, always greats you with a smile. My typical meal is the $ 3 dumplings and Asian BBQ pork soup. The food, which is obviously cooked with a lot of heart and soul, is very tasty every time I have gone to this cart. Never has Maggie let me down. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone trying out the carts!

In my quest to try all the Cedar St. food carts, this Peking Edo Cart is a must try if you’re looking for the best Chinese food offering. Asian cuisine dominates the food cart landscape here, so it’s really easy to miss Maggie’s cart. As another reviewer explained, there are 3 different Peking Edo carts on Cedar, so here’s a quick summary to quickly differentiate between the three. Walking down Cedar from Congress towards Yale-New Haven Hospital, the first Peking Edo cart serves Taiwanese-style Chinese food. I’ve ate here once and got the Beef Noodle Soup(Niu Rou Mian), which is arguably considered the quintessential Taiwanese dish. It really missed the mark for me and the bland broth and flavorless braised beef didn’t have that peppery and bold kick like Mama Hsiao makes it. Maybe I’ll give them another try, but there is just too much cart goodness to try first. The second Peking Edo cart is a stir-fry themed one and I’ve yet to try them yet. To be continued. The third Peking Edo cart, closest to the hospital and York St, is Maggie’s and consistently has a long line of loyal customers. Maggie rocks a red bandanna and is the truth. She’s such a chatty sweetheart that you will feel like you’re in your grandma’s kitchen instead of freezing your butt off waiting outside this dinky cart. Maggie clearly remembers her customers and made my first experience here so warm and welcoming. She acknowledged that it was my first visit and was beaming with confidence that I’d be back for more. Being the noodle soup lover that I am, I went with her Chinese roast pork(char siu) noodle soup, which she again proclaimed is the best. And I must agree. For $ 5 bucks, she packs in a generous amount of thin rice noodles(personally, I’d prefer a thin, yellow, egg-based noodle), tons of thinly sliced roast pork, bok choi, cilantro, and a few other Asian inspired veggies all swimming in a balanced and light broth. Being the sweet and caring woman that she is, she even cautioned me to let a little air out when I took the lid off because it’s literally packed to the brim and it will explode all over you if you are too aggressive. I went back a week later and she remembered me by saying«I told you my soup was the best!» Hahah, I appreciated her candor and humble confidence. The consistent line who will wait for Maggie as she takes her sweet ass time preparing and chatting with each customer speaks for itself. Upon this second visit I asked her what’s good and she said EVERYTHING and went to explain that she cooks home-style food with a pan-Asian approach. I went with the noodle soup again because it had been haunting me for days, but I swear for my next visit I will savor some of her Mama Hsiao style cuisine! Maggie was even featured in the NY Times review of the Cedar St food cart scene. Check it:

My friend did not have to drag me to the food carts. All he had to say was Thai, Indian, Chinese, Mexican, Middle eastern, and Japanese food all on one street for lunch. Ok let’s hit ‘em all! POOR Friend! Never park on Cedar Street during lunch time. It is like 20 min. limited parking and he went over by a few minutes and was handed a $ 30 ticket! He was engrossed with the fried squid balls(delicious warm!)(from Peking Edo), garden rice(Taiwanese)(from Peking Edo) and chicken penang(nice and spicy)(Thai food cart). It was only about $ 5 per dish. The woman at the Peking Edo cart was very friendly and she explained all the dishes. Some were taiwanese dishes like the garden rice which was different tasting from the regular fried rice in Chinese restaurants. She said the owners are from Taiwan and they always throw out the leftover food after 2pm when they close. They don’t want to reuse the food at the restaurant because it has been sitting out all day. Oh, I wish they only served Taiwanese food and hot pot(shabu shabu) at Peking Edo Restaurant. It was worth parking on that street nevertheless. He reparked and we continued on…

The food at the Peking Edo cart is great — it’s my favorite cart at the Med School. Maggie is a great cook and very personable, you can’t help but smile when you talk to her. I stopped by her cart because it smelled delicious and the food looked great. She patiently explained what every dish was as I pointed and asked«What’s that?» over a dozen times. If you are in the mood for soup or sides over rice(white or fried) this is the place. The food is very flavorful and caters to different tastes and preferences — vegetarian or meat, mild or spicy, salty or sweet. The price can’t be beat either, 3 $/5 $ for sm/lg soup, and 4 $/5 $ for 2⁄3 sides over rice(white or fried). I highly recommend giving it a try! p. s. Here’s an article about the Med School Carts that specifically mentions Peking Edo( )

This cart is good homestyle cooking by Maggie. The noodle soups are wonderful, and can be vegetarian(tofu or veggies) or meat(chicken, pork or sometimes beef). The best dish in my opinion are the Xiao pai gu(little pork spare ribs). Like most medical center carts, the dishes $ 5 for three choices on rice or a large soup. Small soup is $ 3. There are dumplings(jiaozi) and steamed buns(baozi) which are not homemade, but she dresses them up well with her homemade sauce and cilantro.
