Phil’s on Broadway

I had come here for haircuts before and have always left reasonably happy. However, I came a few weeks ago after having made an appointment, and when I entered I sat for almost two hours — it turns out they had forgotten my appointment! Won’t be coming back.

This review is for Phil’s on Broadway, which is separate from Phil’s on Wall St. I’ve been coming here to get my hair cut for about a year now. I went to a few other places in town and only got so so cuts. Alexis does a great job with my difficult to cut hair, and the prices are very reasonable, $ 19 for a guy’s cut. The place is above Gourmet Heaven and is easy to miss, but it is definitely worth a try.

I came on Unilocal to find a place that knows how to cut asian hair, as after moving to the east coast for almost 15 years, i have yet to find a place that does’t overcharge for a haircut and only does a so so job!
Well, another place came up (which I don’t recall what the name is now). When I called the number, Sue answered and told me to meet her here. She spent a few minutes looking at my hair, listening to what I want to achieve, and then «diagnosed» the problem with my current hair style and suggested a cut to compliment my face shape.
I have very straight hair and lots of it. She thinned my hair a bit from the inside and styled it. I have never felt my head this light! And the most amazing thing?! I can wash my hair using a lot less shampoo and it dries very fast (I turned on my hairdryer maybe for a grand total of 3 minutes). I literally flip my hair over, dry it, flip it back up, pull my fingers through, maybe brush it and VIOLA! It’s done!
The haircut cost me $ 29 plus tip.
And yes, the place is not fancy looking like some other hair salons, but then again, I rather get a great haircut at a clean but so so looking place, then an overpriced so so haircut at a fancy looking place.

Great hairstylist, Alexis, tucked up in a barber shop above Gourmet Heaven. She is a great stylist and really stays atop current women styles and trends and I’ve seen her work magic for the guys, too. Def worth an appointment, plus you can grab a snack downstairs while your hair processes. Perfection! :) Love Phil’s and highly recommend them.
