This place is the best because before it was Rocco’s it was Verab’s and that was my grandparents Catherine «Babe» and John «Cookie» Verab and I grew up around the best pastry in the world and Rocco’s I gotta take my hat off to you Tony and Anna you guys run a great business from the back where the magic happens to the front cases where the love sits and waits to make another person happy with great pastry, pies, breads and cookies etc but if you thinking of going don’t hesitate just go you’ll be happy and if you like spinach or broccoli grab a bread because they are to die for!!!

Ahhh… at last a great, old school, Italian bakery! From their pastries to stuffed breads, you are gonna love this place my fellow piasons!

I’m not big on sweets, so the cookie/​pastry/​danish aspect of bakeries doesn’t really do it for me. However I will tear up a stuffed bread, and Roccos can do stuffed bread. Really though, this review is just for the ciccola bread. If you’re not Italian, or didn’t grow up around Italians, you’ve likely never heard of ciccola bread. You’re missing out. It’s somewhat difficult to find, and you typically have to act like a single white female on a Lifetime movie and sit in your car on a Sunday morning watching for someone to unlock the door. It flies off the shelves because so few places sell it (and because it’s so damn delicious), but it’s worth it.
The owners enslaved illegal immigrants (and got away with it) and because I’m a relatively compassionate human being, I choose to no longer spend my money here. However, the bread is delicious and that’s what this review is about. Take it for what it’s worth.

New Haven was an Italian neighborhood,
back in my day (OMG, Pop, I said it).
There were LOTS of pastry shops, bakeries,
and delies to choose from.
Yet, Roccos is the one where we always went.
The deal: we went there weekly as a kid,
and I cant believe its still open… THE BEST!
