Wow. Absolutely spectacular. Incredible draft selections accompanied with an outstanding menu. I had the weekly special which was the braised oxtail. Delicious. The oxtail fell right off the bone and the flavor was intense yet balanced well with the cauliflower mash it was served with. I’m not sure how this is considered a dive bar, for I have never seen a dive bar with food like this. And at incredible prices– only $ 15 for a spot on entrée like this one! Must have. Best meal in new haven.

I had been wanting to try Three Sheets for a while, after hearing about the fresh-clam connection the owner has and a friend swearing up and down by them. On a somewhat blustery spring night, my husband and I headed to Three Sheets and immediately ordered the clams: off the menu, an order of the littlenecks steamed with garlic, shallots, herbs, butter and Yuengling, and their New England clam bake special. We also ordered their Mexican corn-on-the-cob special — grilled corn smothered in a gooey mixture of mayo, sour cream, cotija cheese, cilantro and lime(in a word — NOM!). At some point, that poor corn cob was merely a dipping stick for the delicious sauce I wanted to bathe in. The clams did not disappoint — they were super fresh, cleaned well, and flavorful. We enjoyed both preparations and then thought to order the clam pizza as a dessert. I will say that the clam pizza is not as good as Zuppardi’s — the clams were a little overcooked, and instead of loading up the pie with garlic and clam juice, the bread was dry and crunchy. If you’re looking for an out of this world clam pizza, I’d suggest getting yourself to West Haven and Zuppardi’s. We also loved the drink varieties, especially the local-ish ciders they offered, including a super light, crisp Vermont Citizen Cider. My only complaint is that our food took a good 30 minutes to come to us, even though it didn’t seem that they were super busy(none of the other patrons seated on the patio with us ordered any food). We will definitely be back for the clams!

The food is excellent! I love the burgers and pickled fries. The only food item I don’t understand is the fried pickle. I love fried pickles but they need to be fried as slices,(like chips) otherwise the pickle juice gets way to hot and you can’t eat it without burning your mouth, if you wait for it to cool then you loose all the flavors. Frying it in large spears just makes the juices inside way too hot and not edible.

Went on a Tuesday night and it was fairly crowded. The beer selection was good and I liked the vibe of the place. We played a couple games of pool in back. The staff really hyped the butter burgers so we got three of those. While it did taste buttery(and garlicky), the meat was dry, overcooked and too condensed. The fries were quite good. When we were done we put our plates in the back window to the kitchen since we were at the pool tables and service seemed spotty. This caused one of the guys in the kitchen to completely lose their shit and flip out. Sorry for trying to be helpful?

Visited here for the first time last night suggested by an über driver in the past. Small cute bar, laid back chill atmosphere with a good crowd. Food was amazing! The bar tender suggested the veggie burger since I don’t usually eat beef, it was amazing… hands down the best veggie burger I have had. My boyfriend had their beef butter burger which he also enjoyed(i took a bite and surprisingly even I liked it!) menu was good, and different not your typical«bar» food! Beer selection was very good… this is now our new to go to weekday hang out!

Very relaxed, dive bar with great beer selection and good food. Busy and noisy on a Friday night but not so loud you can’t speak to each other, got there just early enough to get a table(by 8pm) before it got crowded. The bartender came around with beer samples for all which was very cool. Mixed crowd, older couples(like grandparents), college kids and everyone in between.

This is probably my favorite bar in New Haven! The food is amazing. You would never think a place like this would pump out delicious, fresh, and very reasonably priced food. I have come here solely for food on some occasions. The bartenders are very friendly also. They have live music and a huge back room with a pool table and all of the walls are chalkboards. Fun place to come and hang out with friends or just sit at the bar. This bar is really a go to no matter what mood you’re in.

Three Sheets is my favorite bar in New Haven. They throw themed parties from time to time and the staff is always super-friendly. They have an excellent rotating draught beer selection with some great regional breweries(Black Hog, Hooker, and Captain Lawrence to name a few). Their spirits are adequate, if leaning towards mid-shelf. Their food, though, is out — of — this — WORLD. One of the best burgers in Connecticut, great jalapeño poppers, and excellent bahn mi. Seriously, I was very pleasantly surprised by their food — it’s MUCH better than I was expecting. It’s a small place and fills up quickly, so get there early!

It’s like someone took a killer gastro pub and shoved it into a dive. I could not ask for more! Lots of local CT brews on tap … Great happy hour specials … Awesome food for both the omnivores and the vegans … And crazy friendly bartenders … Love love love this place!

We were here recently for a ramen pop-up put on by Doom Noodle. Three sheets is exactly what I want in a dive bar: GREAT beers on tap and friendly service. Many local breweries were on draft which was awesome, and the pricing is average. We didn’t try any of the food, but for what it is – it seems that Three Sheets is great for a quick drink!

This place is super divey, which isn’t normally my vibe but I appreciate it nevertheless. The drinks are great and the food is good. Iv tried the burgers a couple of times and whilst they may pale in comparison, to say with prime 16, they are still decent. The staff are always friendly enough but Iv still never braved asking for gf rolls, I think this is the kind of place that might laugh in my face. I would definitely come back and bring friends.

This totally exceeded our expectations. Definitely a dive bar with a very eclectic atmosphere(our evening started with a bit of Elvis and then moved on to metal), and an unusual setup if you want food(not really a straightforward place to order, or directions to sit, or regular service), so we were not sure what to expect for the food. We got 2 tacos, 2 fried corn on the cob, and a burger w egg and gouda. Wow! The burger was especially flavorful, and involved a perfectly poached egg. The corn on the cob came with some sort of dark gravy-like sauce, which was delicious. Soft shell tacos were a solid(I’m not an expert, but the meat was tender, so solid). Very reasonably priced. Might not be the right atmosphere for everyone, but great for some. We’ll likely be back.

Great food. Good beer selection. Super friendly staff. Even better, super friendly clientele. Very diverse, racially, socio-economically, and culturally. I’ve had many conversations with strangers seated/standing by me. What I especially love is that the food is locally sourced, house-smoked/pickled, and very tasty. Different specials every week, great bands and never a cover. This is quickly becoming my favorite hangout.

Great spot in New Haven for good local music(none of that cheeseball cover band, 4-hour set junk that happens at most bars). This place entertains their patrons with actual bands who write their own stuff(the typical 3 – 4 band bill), ranging from metal, to doom, to indie, to folk, to punk, you name it – and Three Sheets is helping to keep that music scene alive in the city. It’s a dying breed out there, so they deserve all the praise they can get(which is why I’m writing this). Best thing about it, if you enjoy checking out local shows, they’re always FREE. No cover charge keeping you out the door. Just walk in, get your drink on, get your eat on, and watch some bands. No brainer. Maybe even go home with a new record in hand or something. Wouldn’t that just be dandy? I’ve never really come to Three Sheets for the food(although all my friends rave about it since the new owners took it over, renaming it Three Sheets) and I only drink pi$$ beer, so I can’t comment on that aspect either. What good am I, right? Why am I even writing this review? I wrote the review for the music! Help support local music. These guys rule.

Great selection of rotating beer taps and surprisingly delicious good. The pickle fries are unique, but I like their regular fries better. I’ve had the Bahn Mi sandwich here and it was pretty good as well. They also have some damn good wings here, and during happy hour on Friday there are free wings available(while supplies last lol)! Cozy spot with an eclectic mix of patrons, and friendly bartenders. This place has become a staple of mine pretty quickly. I can always count on them bringing in quality craft beers on a regular basis. They have live music from time to time, and there’s a pool table in the back where they have cool art available for purchase and a chalkboard wall. Good times!

Came here early on a Sunday night to grab a quick bite to eat and a beer. The bouncer was a smart ass. We sat ourselves after asking how it works — I mean we were first time patrons. Sat down and weren’t served. Apparently, you order at the bar, food and drinks included and then bring it the table yourself… really fucking weird set up. They have a sign on the bar but I didn’t notice it until a couple minutes in. I should have realized before picking this place that it’s a hipster bar, therefore, super super super pretentious. If you don’t have a million tattoos and a bunch of piercings, I suggest you avoid this place as you WILL feel completely out of place. When we asked for a menu, we just got stared at. I didn’t feel like waiting at the crowded bar for drinks AND food so we left and went somewhere more welcoming. I fucking hate hipsters.

We went at lunch time, good atmosphere and good service, not a dive bar at all but then again it was lunchtime. Started with the fried pickles, then steamed little necks then shared the Bahn Mi sandwich, all really good food. Our son had the Buffalo Burger(not buffalo meat, buffalo sauce) also really good. The best surprise was the smoked ketchup, awesome, we all just wanted to eat a bowl of it!

Last night(MLK Monday) a couple of us were up around Howe Street looking to continue our conversation over a drink and it was decided we’d go to Three Sheets. As we walked in our friend casually commented that aside from good drinks they have some super fresh fare which is absolutely awesome. What? I’m a little bit embarrassed to say that I’ve been living on Howe for three months and I walk by Three Sheets just about every day. Given it’s appearance, I figured it was just any old bar. Another lesson to stop judging books by their covers? I think so. We walked inside to find a relaxed atmosphere and I immediately felt good vibes. We started to order drinks and our friend-in-the-know ordered herself a gimlet. They actually know how to make them here, where so many places don’t use the real stuff, she commented. I asked our bartender about her favorite cocktail. Tess was super nice and knows how to make a tasty beverage. She didn’t have a name for this particular concoction that pulls together citrus vodka, squeezed limes, club soda, ginger beer, and grapefruit juice, but after I ordered, and the other two had a taste, that was the next beverage they ordered too. We talked about some potential name ideas, but hopefully someone will be able to report back on an official name for this beverage that seems to span seasons from summer to winter and back. Who couldn’t use a little extra vitamin C with their vodka? Since food was on each of our minds and the clams are apparently as fresh as can be*, we decided to go clams three ways — raw, frittered, and steamed. No clear winners as each of them were a delight and it was nice to sample each of the varieties. The raw clams(littlenecks) come on the half-shell in sets of six with one spicy(tobasco) and one vinegar-based sauces(mignonette) plus a wedge of lemon($ 8). Mom’s Clam Fritters($ 6) came hot and delightful, they seemed to strike a nice balance with a bready-ness meets clam flavor. I passed on the remoulade. And steamed clams are always tasty. The eleven Three Sheets steamed clams came swimming in a savory garlic, shallot, herb, yeungling, and butter sauce that was delightful to dip with toasted whole g baguette when the clams were gone. And that leftover steamed clam juice/sauce? I took it home and have plans to use it to make some risotto. As I was headed to see some friends post, I asked Tess what would be worth taking to go. She suggested the pretzels. They came nice and hot and were served with a side of mustard. Since they’re flash fried they did end up feeling a bit heavier. And although tasty and probably the right amount of salt if they were paired with a beer back at the bar, they didn’t work as well paired with… hot pot. Oh well, next time. Day 2, they didn’t taste as good as Day 1, but weren’t a bad snack. Great company always makes for a good time. But the atmosphere here early in the evening was super. The only bummer about this place I found? We just missed happy hour. It’s 4−6PM. Also, no menu online, which isn’t really a problem. It just meant that today I ended up back to check on the items we ordered(isn’t accuracy important? Glad I live in the neighborhood). I wondered, are all the bartenders as friendly as Tess and Laura? Last, but not least, Three Sheets has only one thing to say about themselves on their less than active Twitter page — «a gastrodive.» But do they need anything else? I can’t imagine a better way to describe this place. Will I be back? Yes, neighbor, you bet your bottom dollar, I will. —– *From the menu: Rick and Ed of Three Sheets also own Bear Neck Shellfish.
