No longer sol azteca. Very sparse menu. Certainly not going to last. Not sure what part of Mexico these items are from. Oh, and no soda refills. Suprise! $ 2.50 for a glass of ice and some off flavor colored water. Taco bell taste better! Staff didn’t seem to know anything. Even what salsa is. Way overpriced for the teaspoon full of chicken in what they claimed was a chimichanga, but was a burrito with sauce on it. Hand written menu looked like a kindergartener could have done better. Avoid at all cost.

Maybe we came on an off-night but we were not impressed especially considering the reviews. Unfortunately with the service and food preparation issues we encountered I doubt we will be back ever again to see if it was just a fluke. The bad: We ordered two entrees and one was chicken which was undercooked — a pretty serious food safety issue. When we told the waiter he took the whole plate in the back and had it nuked or something rather than replacing the chicken. They were also out of stock of numerous food items — for example when we were there they were out of shrimp, limes, lemons, chorizo, and who knows what else — pretty basic staples and they had none of that. The waiter was not very attentive — we never got a refill on our drinks and it took a very long time to get the check. The restaurant was not very busy at the time, either. The properly cooked entrée was decent — but nothing spectacular. Pretty standard americanized mexican food like you can get at 50 other places in the twin cities. The price was pretty standard for that kind of fare. And we paid full price for the undercooked then nuked chicken. The good: The décor is great. They have some really neat colorful carved chairs and booths. The chips and salsa were good and plentiful.

Good food and nice clean place! I know this is family owned restaurant and thwy work hard to get things right. They have quite an expansive menu with plenty of choices. It can be a little on the spendy side. But I rather spend my money here than at El Loro. The servers here are nice, polite and respectfull. The food is so much better than El Loro and more aunthentic. I am kinda of picky in my Mexican food but I know authenticity when I see it. Plus support local business rather than chained businesses. One thing I enjoyed were the Chillaquiles with chicken for lunch a little spicy but not over powering. La carne Asada is always a favorite. If your looking for drinks and margaritas you got it! Definitely enjoyed the food here, give it a try! I love supporting local family owned business, since I myself own one. Dont let their parking lot confuse you. You wont regret.

Good food, colorful and fun environment, and friendly service. Lots of menu options with hearty serving portions. Dishes are actually spicy(I’ve been disappointed about supposed spiciness levels at other places). It’s exactly what it advertises to be, and it doesn’t disappoint. Pricing is pretty great as well. We ordered Chile Calorada the sauce for which was delicious and spicy and another chicken dish that was a good standard off the grill menu. Although they were out of shrimp today, we’d probably go back again to try that. We will be going again!

My new favorite Mexican restaurant! The food is so fresh and is very authentic. Not your typical American Mexican, but they have those options, too. The best/most dangerous part is the chips and salsa. Every basket of chips comes out warm and just fried for you and the salsa is perfection. Perfect amount of spice and flavor. Recommend!

Great Mexican food at very reasonable prices especially during lunch. The chips and salsa are addictive and have hurt my meals as I ate too many prior. :) I like it so much I have gone once a week for the last 5 weeks and like it better than the El Loro /Azteca chain that used to be my favorite in Minneapolis. They are fairly new in this location right on Bass Lake a half mile east or Winnetka and always easy so far to get a table but I hope others discover it also.

My wife and I really enjoyed the food and the service was excellent! I didn’t give Sol Azteca 5 stars only because I believe 5 stars is reserved for the best I have ever had. This food and is really good and it’s enjoyable. You will be happy you gave them a chance.
