We’ve been at this location for about a year and my son loves it so much that he wants to continue. I would say that last summer when we started, there were definitely kinks to work out — our instructor was absent a lot and we were constantly being shuffled around which made it hard for my son to level up. After a couple of months, we got a new permanent instructor and she has been fabulous(shout out to Ms. Elizabeth!). She’s so patient with him which is the most important thing in my mind. We previously had swim lessons with Gateway Sports in Douglaston and I would equate those lessons to how they probably taught swimming in Russia back in the 60’s which created a huge fear of water in him. Now, he’s learning his strokes and having fun and is consistently leveling up which creates more confidence in his abilities.

I have scheduled individual lessons twice now. Both times have been big let-downs. It’s not easy waking an infant up early from a nap and running around packing her bag and getting her ready to make sure we get there on time. But we did it and were very excited(had the camera ready to go), just to get there and be told both times that our lessons aren’t happening. They made a mistake with scheduling the first time and the instructor no showed the second time. Not that I was especially eager to have my child in the pool with the instructors I saw. They talked to each other and paid little attention to the children they were holding several times. I watched one instructor walk in late for a weekly lesson a parent is paying a lot of money for. And rather than apologizing to the parent, she was texting as she slowly walked in. Be cautious of this place.

Not all the instructors are good… be mindful that they are young men and women teaching your children. Some of the instructors talk to other instructors the entire class while others focus on the task at hand. I’ve made my complaints and went through a multitude of teachers(one even just up and quit) before finding ALEX«my godsend»…my son was learning and pushing forward it was wonderful to see such progression. Unfortunately Alex went off to pursue bigger and better things, which resulted in me going through the motions again. I will say once you find a good instructor that truly cares about your child’s progression, you will be glad you brought him to this school. It’s a hit or miss here, but my child is learning. He has attended this school for almost a year and a half now, and he went from«I THINK I’M DROWNING» to «LOOKATMYBACKSTROKE» I think that I will be pulling him out however at the end of his last session, as I’ve still struggled to find the perfect instructor again. This school is not the cheapest swim school by any means… and going through all those instructors just to find the right one cost me a pretty penny. I’m happy he’s learned as much as he has and hope to come back to find some better instructors in the future. School itself is clean and they have instructors monitoring the pool on the side cleaning filters and such.

My son had a tremendous fear of swimming after a horrible experience with gateway sports club in Bayside. A friend recommended saf-t swim near Roosevelt field mall but was too far for us. Then we heard about this location opening and gave it a shot. At first, I do agree with other reviewers, that it was difficult to get someone on the phone and to grab time slots. There was inconsistency with the info we would get depending on who answered the phone. But I would have to say that they now have their system at the front desk operating more smoothly. I see that they saw their room for improvement and definitely stepped up their game. Currently, my son has had classes with both Sebastian and Keenan. We love them both dearly! My son was afraid to jump in and participate much without holding on to the instructor. Now he’s doing laps and confidently having fun swimming within 9 months of weekly classes. I’m giving this place 5 stars because the instructors are patient, build on confidence and try to make it fun. I see that when they are not teaching, they rotate shifts in cleaning, working the front desk, and take pride in their work here. Yes, it can get crowded here but we always find a parking spot in their lot and I surely prefer the one on one attention that my son gets, which I strongly believe got him to his level a lot more quickly. Thank you saf-t swim!!!

This place is brand new yes, but nothing special about it. Don’t expect much from this place if you join, because you will get very upset and disappointed. First off, when you call the place, no one ever answers, but there are about 6 of them at the desk. When you register, they don’t all say and do the same thing. No organization! No one knows anything about the different levels of swimming that they teach. They forget what they taught your child from last week’s lesson. Brand new place, and already one shower is not working. Oh the worst part is, the pool is so PACKED. Besides having a million of instructors and students in the pool. They also have mommy and me going on at the same time. Insane!!! Instructors bump in to each other every second. One mom was complaining about her instructor starting five minutes late and they won’t give her that five minutes extra at the end. I was really thinking of signing my son up here permanently, because it’s the closest one to me. Now, I think I would rather drive a little bit longer for a better school. I don’t think I’m the only unhappy customer here. I heard a lot of bad reviews just sitting in the viewing area. So bottom line, I’m not resigning my son up again.

Saf-t Swim opened up a new location in New Hyde Park. The building seems very new. The pool is salt water and seems clean. I like how there are shower heads right by the pool to rinse off. There is a bug waiting/watching area for parents to view their children swimming. There are several individual changing rooms. The women’s locker room has three shower stalls with foam soap. There are no lockers in the locker area. There is a parking lot in thr back and meter parking in front. The place is very clean. I would give the facility a 4. However, I would give the mommy and me class a 1. The class size is so large. You have a teacher and a helper calling out one direction and really it’s a little chaotic. Nothing was learned in the first session. at least in the other location the max was only 8 kids so the teacher was able to give a little more attention to the parents to help them apply what was being taught.
