Can’t believe we have never gone there before. Had ½ chicken and half order of ribs. Both of us had two sides. Everything was good. The staff were very nice, friendly and helpful. Restaurant and bathrooms were clean. Large portions. We took ½ of the chicken and ribs home for later. We will definitely be back.

I’ve been going to Neon Chicken for the past 3 weeks during my weekend classes, since it’s close by(Speaking of which, where is the actual«neon chicken»? It can be a tough place to find without it!). The décor is like your cooky grandma’s house, but who really cares about the décor? You’re there to pay someone else to cook for you! I’ve only tried the sandwiches so far(chicken salad and chicken breast). The sandwich and a 20 oz soda come out to $ 10.09. It might be a smidge pricier than you’d expect to pay for a meal like that, but the meat is DELICIOUS. The meat is perfectly seasoned, hot, fresh, and moist. They cut it off the bone at the time the sandwich is prepared. The french roll is fresh and soft. I haven’t tried any of the sides yet, since it’s hard to eat anything bigger than a sandwich at a classroom desk, but I will be back!

Fresh home style meal at a great price. Can’t go wrong weather it’s chicken or a meat loaf dinner. Stop in for great service and a great dinner

Family-style meal(think mom and pop scale version of Boston Market) The chicken preparation at Neon Chicken is a fair BBQ-seasoned, rotisserie-style roasted chicken. It’s not the slow-roasted chicken you may be used to if you have had Southern BBQ. The meat separated from the bone easily, but held together more than real deal slow-roasted BBQ foul which I prefer. While I liked Neon Chicken and would go back, the portions were skimpy for the price you pay. I would expect to have two legs/thighs when ordering a $ 10 chicken leg & thigh plate. Or maybe throw in a few wings for goodwill. As for the veggies, each plate order comes with two side veggies and all were average home-style preparation. Not over or undercooked or over or under seasoned. Neon chicken is a solid average dining/take-out experience especially for those who may be in port or staying overnight at the marina next door. I am not by any means a seasoned chef or culinary pro so take this review for what it is an amateur review. Though in my opinion this is the same quality of food that you could easily do yourself for a fraction of the price. The service was very fast and everyone behind the counter were friendly and eager to guide us through the options. We were in town for Sailfest so we were happy to have anything better than packaged, preserved convenience store filth. Neon Chicken certainly was in line with what we were looking for — home-cooked food that costs a little more than you probably want to pay. The other reviews giving 2 or fewer stars are exaggerated. Neon Chicken is the poster child of the average American family-style meal.

If you like cafeteria food, I guess this is the spot. I can’t believe we spent money here. Half rack of ribs that were probably cooked a day ago, super dry and flavorless, corn that was very tough, and beans that… well you could get better out if a can. Now I’m sitting here with a stomach ache. My wife got the rotisserie chicken with Stuffing and beans. She said the chicken was alright but the sides weren’t edible. And if course the corn bread. Super dry and old. This is not BBQ any sort.

The Neon Chicken is superb. We had the specials of the day which were pulled pork and pulled chicken. Both were cooked perfectly and were tender, juicy and flavorful. The mac and cheese, beans, stuffing and corn bread were also equally good. Seek this place out. you will love it.

Neon Chicken has the homemade taste that everyone looks for in a restaurant. All of their side dishes are so delicious that I usually end up having to order extra– Their cranberry sauce and corn bread are mouth watering. There is a great deal for an all you can eat buffet– but I can’t eat that much. The green bean and macaroni and cheese are so yummy and it makes me feel like eating Mom’s food. Comforting, delicious and warm– I can’t get enough of this food!

Wonderful rotisserie chicken and many other fine meat choices(BBQ, pork roast, meatloaf, etc.). Many sides to choose from. Wonderful service and a very friendly environment. This is our go-to place in the New London area for great takeout and dine-in food.

A little hidden treasure of the Whaling City — how did I not know about this place for so long? Maybe it’s a well guarded secret? Anyway, this is Grandma’s house for dinner — Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, comfort food on steroids! They even make mashed turnips with chunks of the turnips in them — just like my great grandma. Also, we felt that the mashed potatoes, unlike other reviewer’s, were definitely scratch and they are da bomb! Real whipped taters with chunks of potato, just like, you guessed it. my grandma used to make. This place is inexpensive, they have unlimited soda refills, and baked goods too! We have found real food where every grandparent-less child/adult would feel very loved & nostalgic indulging in.

I think the Neon Chicken deserves a star just for the name. I got a Chicken and Ribs platter. The chicken was standout — fell off the bone and well seasoned. The ribs were just fine, but unmemorable. I agree with other reviewers that the sides were not life-changing, but there were a lot of different options. I also enjoyed the gratis mini-loaf of cornbread.

Nestled away a long with the businesses buildings and light industrial and boat works is The Neon Chicken. I went there for lunch and was not too impressed with the quality and quantity of the food. The chicken had been probably been cooked the same morning, but was nothing special to me. The sides to choose from were rather bland and not any more special than out of a can. I would not classify this place as a BBQ place either. From the reviews on Unilocal I thought it would be a better lunch place. The décor appeared to be a bit cluttered and faded. A good cleaning might be in order. Also the metal sculpture could use a new coat or two. It appeared to me The Neon Chicken is now a dim silhouette of what it used to be.

How did I not know about this place? I must have driven by here lots of times when driving to Fort Trumbull or Captain Scott’s. Maybe I never noticed it because it doesn’t have fancy outdoor signage like Boston Market or KFC. And that’s a good thing. This place isn’t a franchise. It’s Just a nice casual place to get some home-styled rotisserie chicken, BBQ chicken, and southern styled side items. It’s a place any Mom would approve of and it’s probably better for you than those those chicken franchises. While it cost a little more than those other places, you won’t find any plastic sporks here. You get real chinaware and silverware. It reminds me of something you’d find down below the Mason Dixon line. The process is simple… you order at the counter and seat yourself. No waiter service. There’s plenty of tables on the inside and a couple picnic tables on the outside(see my outdoor picture). My meal costs me $ 13. Both the chicken and side items were great. The staff was really friendly too.

Great chicken. Fast and tasty. Sides are so-so, but that is not what you go there for.

My husband & I found this place one afternoon while driving around, looking for a different lunch place in New London. What a pleasent surprise! The staff were very nice & helpful. The half chicken salad sandwich & salad was delish. My husband had the pulled pork plate which was full of flavor. One of the best lunch stops in New London!

If I were rating the chicken alone, it would easily be 4 – 5 stars, however, the sides are lackluster, at best. I’ll star with the mediocre sides & end on a good note with the chicken: 1 — the mashed potatoes tasted like those«made from powder» mashed potatoes you got in middle school lunches 2 — the gravy was thin & flavorless 3 — the butternut squash smelled promising(it smelled almost like pumpkin pie spice), but it tasted like baby food until I added a heap ton of salt & butter 4 — the mac & cheese seemed like it was made with velveeta cheese — which is fine if you like velveeta cheese Now to the chicken: The chicken was delicious. Absolutely cooked & seasoned perfectly. I definitely recommend picking up some for dinner. So worth it. The cornbread is like fancified Jiffy cornbread, so a little sweet, which is fine. But I digress, we will definitely go back for the chicken, however I’ll cook my own side dishes and save some money & disappointment.

YUM! The Neon Chicken was a place my dad and I stumbled upon when I was looking at Conn College, and it became a favorite quick dinner place while I was at Conn. It reminds me of Boston Market, but it’s so much better. You get whatever kind of chicken you want… with a number of delicious sides. You really can’t go wrong with whatever you pick. It can be tricky to find.
