OMG, the specials & drinks at Gaspar’s are amazing! This restaurant is my favorite thing today seriously their sauces are amazing & need to be bottled. Fresh fish, best cuts of beef & sushi! Consistently great service, great food, and great cocktails(oh the martinis they can create you!). I highly recommend starting with happy hour and continuing on for a meal & wine.

Looking for a great dinner spot on our way to Plymouth and we found it! Gaspar’s is an unassuming American restaurant with high-class food at a regular price. Each dish on the menu was made with exquisite ingredients, including some Piedmontese beef that I just had to try. Our server, Giovanni, was very friendly and courteous and was a pleasure to be around. The chef even stopped by our table to see how we were doing! The food was very very delicious and it was obvious there was a lot of heart put into the dish, both in terms of cooking and presentation. The clam chowder was creamy and had some real good clam pieces in there. My burger was very tender and juicy, and the veggies were placed on the side to maintain freshness. The whipped potatoes were a delight and were light and crunchy. The Piedmontese NY strip steak was exactly as described: less fatty yet very tender and flavorful, unlike any other steak I’ve tried. The cod fish was succulent and fresh tasting, with some lobster mashed potatoes. We finished just around closing time, and upon leaving saw the staff and kitchen crew having a great time together in laughter and smiles. Very glad to have found a delicious local restaurant in New London! Would recommend to all.

Would give a 3.5 out of 5 if half points were available. Stopped by 2 nights ago for a late dinner(8:30 pm ET) while on a business trip with a co-worker. We were anxious to try many of the foods pictured on Unilocal but when we looked on the menu, we couldn’t find many of them. We went it pretty late, as they closed at 9 pm, but the place was almost completely empty except a few folks sitting at the bar, most of them being employees of Gaspar’s. Our bartender who served us did a good job talking to us and recommending certain menu items. I ended up getting the cod entrée and co-worker got the cedar plank salmon. We both liked out meal just fine… just disappointed the rest of the pictured menu items weren’t available. We couldn’t get a great vibe or enjoy a good atmosphere due to it being near empty. Food was good, the ambience wasn’t great.

Came by for Sunday brunch. Great idea, they have a sort of half buffet, half plated meal with a mimosa or bloody for 20 bucks. Food was good. Service was an issue. We were the only ones there in a dreary Sunday morning and initially I wondered why. It took the waitress quite some time to offer us a drink when we sat, I was brought a dry english muffin and wasn’t offered anything to dress it. Had to wait till half way through the meal for salt and pepper and would have loved some steak sauce and another mimosa. Took forever for the check to come. I can dismios bad service in the case of understaffing, but the two girls working were to busy shooting the breeze and doing their hair in the service area(yuck) to actually do their jobs. Get better service Gaspar’s, and you may get 4 or 5 stars!

Went to Gaspars for the first time last night. The five up us were greeted and seated by Giovanni our waiter. We ordered two appetizers, calamari, and Brussels Sprouts. The calamari was good, the sprouts were great! We all ordered different entrees for our meals. Everyone was pleased with their choices. I had baked cod over lobster mashed potatoes. My wife had lobster bolognese, my daughter had the lobster bisque and a salad. Our two friends had chicken scampi, and a monkfish special. We took advantage of their free bottle of house wine for every two entrees ordered. We got a pino grigo and a cabernet. Both were good, and gone by the end of the meal. The service was spot on, the food great, we will return!

Great lunch, great service and great atmosphere. Went here for lunch today with a coworker as we were in the area. We walked in and first impression was positive. The place is very clean, with a cozy yet modern atmosphere. The male waiter was very friendly, inviting and professional. He provided great service throughout our lunch. I ordered the captains turkey sandwich and my coworker ordered the lobster bisque which they advertise as best in the area for the last four years. I didn’t try the lobster bisque but my coworker said it was delicious. The captains turkey sandwich was delicious, With bacon, fresh crisp lettuce, perfectly toasted bread and the lean delicious turkey. The food came out quickly and I have nothing bad to say about the atmosphere, service and food. When in the area I would definitely like to try this place for dinner.

My husband and I went in for brunch today. There aren’t many brunch places around, so we were excited to try what Gaspar’s had to offer. I really wanted to like it. But… When we sat down, there were four other occupied tables. They all got their food in a reasonable amount of time. As did everyone who came in after us. We waited almost an hour for our food, which we didn’t really complain about at first(because of the buffet), but it was really frustrating after awhile. The food? Eh. My steak was undercooked, the breakfast fare was mediocre. I was surprised that there was no fruit offered on the buffet or menu. I’m sure the dinner offerings are more exciting, but given how bad our experience was, I don’t know if we’ll go back to check it out.

Thank you Gaspars! After getting called into work on Valentine’s Day, my husband and I were pretty sure this year was going to be bust. I got out around 8:30, called up Gaspars to see if they were still severing, and Brook(I think was her name) said she would let the kitchen know we were coming and to make sure they stayed open. We arrived around s 9:00, had a 5 course meal that was FLAWLESS. The atmosphere, service, drinks and food, were beyond amazing. We can’t wait to go back again! Thank you for saving our Valentine’s Day!

This place is where to go when you want to impress your mother-in-law. The items on the menu have a gazillion adjectives. It’s just a tad too fancy for my taste. But the food was excellent. It’s a safe bet. They’re also very willing to accommodate gluten-free needs.

Service was a little rough, mostly because there was only one server. However, if the only thing you order is the lobster bisque, you will not be disappointed. It was delicious. Excellent crab cakes as well.

The place is very nice and there is great service. I ordered the BLT Omelette with home fries for Sunday brunch, and the Omelette tasted very watery. The home fries were pretty crunchy. With Sunday brunch, you can pick your own fruits and salads, breads, etc on top of what you order, which was nice. The most positive thing I can say about this place is that it’s very affordable and great service.

Delicious meal from start to finish! Started with the spicy tuna rolls, tried some lobster bisque, and had the Mediterranean salmon for my entrée. Friendly staff, lovely atmosphere, best meal I’ve had in a long time! Will be returning! Monday-Wednesday free bottle of wine with purchase of 2 entrees, bummed we went on a Thursday because that is a great deal!

The selection of great/better than mediocre food in the Groton/New London area is slim. It does however, encourage us to try everything in hopes that we did miss something and find a diamond, or more like a cubic zirconia in the rough. Gaspar’s doesn’t have much of a reputation yet, but has a very creative menu that I was just itching to try. We made a reservation for a Wednesday night, and were told that it was«date night» which meant if we bought two entrees, we’d get a bottle of house wine free. I was skeptical but excited, and we headed over for a lady’s night out. They have their own little private parking lot next to the restaurant, if you can get one of the spots, but I parked on the street with no issue. The restaurant is larger than it looks from the outside, with an upscale Americana feel. We were seated immediately, in the left half of the dining room, but the entire place was sparsely occupied even on their date night at prime dining time. We ordered the Fried Chicken and Prosciutto, Rosemary Truffle Gruyère Fondue appetizer($ 9), which we all thought was pretty good but a little overwhelming. Each of us ordered an entrée, so we got a free bottle of house wine, which was Domino brand. I’m definitely a wine snob, so I was hesitant to think highly of it, but their 2013 Cabernet was a decent, easy drinking, juicy red. At our table we had the Mediterranean Salmon($ 24) which was served over a kalamata olive and feta salad with veggies, the New York Strip($ 28) served over whipped potatoes with a red wine rosemary sauce, and the Volcano Salted Bistro Steak($ 26) served over a mushroom risotto with pastry wrapped asparagus. The ladies raved about their plates, and I loved my bistro steak, although a little undercooked for my liking. The best part was the pastry wrapped asparagus served with a peculiar plastic dropper of sauce stuck into it, but none the less, inspired me to make my own spin on it back at home. The biggest impression I got from Gaspars is that I think they try to do too much at one time. When I was reading the menu to my husband before I left, he was overwhelmed with the complexity of how many key ingredients were mentioned in the menu descriptors. Not only are they a steak house, but they also specialize in oysters and have a full sushi menu?! None of the things we ate were particularly bad, but they were also not particularly amazing. They could probably pare down some of the complexity and focus on a key flavor or style, and it would be much better than throwing prosciutto and fried chicken and truffle and rosemary and gruyère into one dish. Prices were reasonable, serving sizes were large, staff was attentive, and the wait for the food was short. They do look like they offer an interesting sunday brunch menu as well that I’m interested to try, if I have time to do so in the future. Gaspars tries to do so much to entice the palate, and be creative with ingredients. If they could really hone in on a skill and a more selective offering, they could go from pretty ok to really great. I hope for them the best on narrowing down and simplifying their menu to let their star ingredients really shine.

Best brunch spot on Sunday I always get the crab cake eggs Benedict. You can also add on bottomless mimosas and bloodys for 16 $ extra. So worth it!

The best part about the restaurant was the ambience. Service was fantastic. The best part of our food was the curly fries and Heinz ketchup. We came for lunch and were the first to sit at 11:45. We had the CT burger and the short rib sandwich. My son had the Mac n cheese off the kids menu. Burger – fine line between charred and burned and well, it tasted burnt and was dry. The short rib sandwich was dry. The Mac and cheese was made with long noodles(I’m not good with my pastas) and arrived on a huge plate = unappetizing and unappealing to a toddler. They used a v sharp cheese that is yum but not great for kids. The server was very nice and checked on us a lot. She took the Mac and cheese off our bill which we appreciated. Oh wait – all the bad food made me forget we also had the lobster bisque. It was not bad but I wouldn’t go out of my way for it again. For $ 12 it could have had more lobster meat in it.

Great cozy summer weeknight dinner with people watching view of Bank Street. Stopped in for dinner with a good friend on a gorgeous Summer Wednesday in late August. To our surprise the place was completely empty(and only one other customer dined during our dinner) This restaurant has some of the nicest most modern New American cuisine in New London and its a shame their not more busy. For starters we had them lobster tostada with a good amount of lobster, tasty guacamole and fresh veg. Also the mozzarella and grilled peppers. We also tried the grilled romaine salad with tomatoes and Gorgonzola. The mozzarella was creamy soft and delicious and we spread it on the remaining parts of the tostada and romaine heart lettuce leaves which were nicely seasoned and spritzed with lemon juice. Apps were sampled with an excellent drinkable Sauvignon Blanc, very nice wine list. After the apps we had a perfectly cooked entrée of scallops on sweet potato purée with vegetables and fresh shucked corn on the cob; plus the hanger streak with grilled onions and spinach. Them meat was cooked exactly medium rare and was juicy and very flavorful. Dessert was a New York cheesecake with whipped cream and fresh strawberries and blueberries — also perfectly cartelized luscious vanilla crème brûlée with blueberries and strawberries, washed down by a cold glass of proseco. Great meal, classy décor, awesome views, perfect attentive quick table service and excellent food. If you live in New London or just find yourself hungry and bank street check out this little gem of a restaurant

Gaspars was an amazing find! We went out all night at Mohegan Sun and slept in until the last second to check-out at a nearby hotel. After all that partying and late day laziness we were starving! Gaspars has an awesome brunch deal! $ 20 for buffet(blueberry scones, cinnamon scones, fruit, cheese, chocolate chip cookies, etc), 1 entrée, and a bloody mary or mimosa. My friends and I went for mimosas and a coffee(free coffee or tea when you check in on Unilocal!) Then we headed to the buffet. Blueberry scone was pretty dry and tasteless… I gave up on it and went for the Cinnamon… wayyy better! Cheese was delish. Didn’t want to fill up before my entrée so I made myself stop eating. I got the Eggs Benedict because they were out of the Crabcake(lump crap) Eggs Benedict(so sad!!). Eggs Benedict was pretty good and the home fries were hot and bangin! Def. the best I’ve had in a while. My one friend was too hungover to eat much and the other wasn’t really a fan of the BLT Omelette(Bacon, Lobster, Tomato). It was one of those things where the Lobster was overpowered by the seasoning/spices, which is always a disappointment. I took some chocolate chip cookies from the buffet to go, which was a huge win since we ended up getting stuck in traffic for hours. They were so soft! Before we left, a waiter came over because he heard it was both my friend’s birthday and mine. He invited us back in the evening to enjoy free dessert. Unfortunately we had to leave to get back home so we couldn’t take him up on it. We will be back next time though!

The food was very good. I just wish that the service here would improve. We had reservations so it was surprising to be ignored once seated. The heavily tattooed server had a «diner» manner of service, yet the restaurant had more of a 3 to 4 star atmosphere. The restaurant needs to figure out when it wants to be and do that in every way. After our entrées were taken away, the check was brought to us a few minutes later without an offer of dessert or coffee. I get the sense they’re trying to rush us out? We used to come here regularly and stopped after a bad experience. We decided to come back months later and try again. I wish I could say that they won us back. Alas… Not so much.
