Don Coqui

Came here this past Saturday to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Very weird night at don coqui as we arrived after midnight & dinner tables were still out with people eating. Nothing against people having a meal but I expected the area to be clear for a dance floor like it usually is. The night we went they mostly played 90s hip hop/R&B. Little strange that it’s a Puerto Rican club & we heard about 3 bachata songs & one Marc Anthony song from midnight till 3am. And the $ 20 cover for men is ridiculous. Nonetheless service was good (we got a table for hookah & drinks) & for what they played the music was good. I’ll stick with other clubs in the Bronx & Queens.

I went here for dinner asked for a table of two. They asked all the couples to wait but kept seating larger groups first. Even people who got there before us. They could have split tables to seat the couples but no they preferred to seat the larger groups. We ended up having a drink while waiting she said she would call us… Nothing … We even got up think maybe we gave her the wrong number. It’s was right. We ended up waiting an hour and a half and left. I’ve also been to the club portion of this place and I’m not a fan of it either. There are better places to spend your money.

Food was very good, but the service sucks. Our waiter kept rushing and didn’t want to give us the time of day. Overall food was on point.

The food here is always delicious and drinks are good .
Don’t like the fact that it turns into a club past 9pm, but I make sure to plan early dinners so that were not affected by the club crowd.
Bottom line is that your getting authentic Puerto Rican cuisine !!! you must try.

Nice, not bad had a good time with friends… it was pretty cool… the food and drinks was good and i enjoyed it alot… my friends were a little picky, but it was a good place to have a little fun

I wish I could give this place zero stars! I’ve never been as disappointed with a restaurant. Do not go to Get Soul at old Don Coqui for brunch. Rice taste like it was done the night before and reheated in the microwave, pasta was cold, I ordered an omelette and it was dripping in oil and my orange juice tasted like water with food coloring and sugar. Food was disgusting. I spoke to the manager, Jimmy who is actually the owner’s son and I was told that I paid for the «club like experience and the DJ and that if I want better food I could go to Don Coqui in Dyckman and City Island». I’m Livid! We had a party of 45 people paying $ 40 each. Get Soul/​Don Coqui just lost 45 customers and their friends as well!

I heard this place closed. There is a Southern Food Spot here now.

I think they need a new set of speakers in the back bar area… honestly it sounds god awful! Been there three times on a Saturday night to grab a late dinner and also hoping that they would get better speakers, but no. However, the food is pretty decent. But I think I rather drive to the Bronx to get my arroz con pollo fix. Please let me know when they fix their speaker system…

Liked coming here sometime ago, now its just loo loud and valet… really?
Food has always been good, super dissappointed they removed the coconut rice with the seafood asopado. This was pretty much what did keep me going over and over again. Went on a thursday night for a casual diner with a friend recently and it just ended up being ackward since its so loud and we couldn’t even talk. No real reason to come here anymore.

This was truly one of the most unique dining experiences I’ve ever had! Went recently for a friend’s birthday party and if your mama always told you don’t dance at the table, she would hate this place, LOL.
You can’t help but feel the good vibes and the dj was incredible, so we couldn’t help but dance while eating our dinner. Empanadas are delicious, I would highly recommend.
Now on the down side, be warned:
1) The music is fun, but makes it nearly impossible to have a conversation at the table because it is VERY loud.
2) The food was good overall, but the service was not; they forgot the birthday girl’s meal and brought everyone else’s, to the point that 10 minutes and 2 asks later, the manager literally had to go into the kitchen to make it happen.
3) Again about the service, it took 30 minutes and 3 asks to get the birthday cake sliced and brought out. They didn’t have to bake it, thy only had to slice it, but it took a half hour to do this.
Because there were more than 4 of us, the gratuity was automatically entered onto the check; if we had our way it would have been far less due to the slow service, so just know that no matter what experience you have, if you come with at least 4 people, that server will get tipped like they did a good job regardless.
Overall, the slow service and required valet afterwards made for a very long evening. If it had not been for a friend’s birthday, I can’t say I would ever go back there again, but it was certainly fun to try at least once, for a special occasion.

Loved it here! Had a sexy island got me feeling amazing! Would def recommend this place to anyone! Service was awesome!

They tell you one wait time and it seems you have to assume its double the time… Dont bother coming here!!!

Horrible place! Do not visit this place unless your ready to be underwhelmed or extremely disappointed. I planned to celebrate my 27^th birthday party here with close family and friends. Biggest mistake ever! I planned reservations 2 weeks prior and when my party and I got there we were bullied into paying $ 20 valet and to top it off we never received a table. It was said to us that there we no tables available. The music is another story. The DJ was horrible played Spanish music all night long! Don’t get me wrong I understand it is a Spanish restaurant but Latin folks don’t want to hear that Spanish music all night long! He did not mix it up at all!
They were extremely unapologetic when I called the manager the following day and immediately placed blame on me! I’m just trying to save ppl the drama that happened to me on what was suppose to be my special day.

This place is kind of ridiculous… For some reason they only have valet service at the restaurant. And although the valets only park your car a few feet away, you still have to hand over your keys. Then when it comes to dinner, the food was way too salty and the beers are like $ 10 a piece. We ended up spending around $ 130 for 3 entrees, 3 beers, and an appetizer. Way too expensive for the quality. On top, we were screaming at each other through dinner because the music was deafening. Can’t say I’ll be going back.

Went to Don Coqui, to celebrate my daughter in laws Birthday, when we arrived we sat at the bar first drinks where a little watery, second drink was better after my hubby complained to bartender, rest of the evening went with out an problems .
I had been there before I use to really enjoy there décor, now it’s looking more casual then a high end place, staff was excellent waitress was very friendly.

Good Food but overall experiance was just «Ehh.»
We visited on a Sunday evening, and the food was very good and the table service was quite friendly. The waiter recommended the Pernil and Paella so we ordered both. The serving sizes were large and the food came out fairly quickly.
Overall I would rate the food a 4 stars, but the overall experiance was lacking. The valet parking team stole all of my quarters and but they were nice enough to replace them with pennies (why?). The restrooms could use some cleaning. The place attempts to put on an upscale vibe (including mandatory valet parking) but they missed on the details.

Soooo! Sorry I didn’t include some Pics! But once the food hit the table wifey and I jumped right in. If you have not been to a «Don Coqui» you have NO idea what you are missing. Great food and I mean great food. Awesome atmosphere warm service and a down right good time. Doesn’t matter if you’re green –yellow– or purple… all are guaranteed to have a darn good experience. Buen Provecho!

Love, love, love this place. Food is always delicious and memorable. Staff members & management are very attentive, we were greeted by one the managers and provided exceptional service.

Appetizers had Pablo crusted little eve clams. Yummy!! Very large portions. #1 Ordered stuffed lobster with filet filet mignon and shrimp fried rice. The dish was huge!!! #2 Ordered grilled skirt steak with grilled shrimp and sautéed veggies. Dish was average but still couldn’t eat it all.
Music was good, deco was great.
Need to invest in new tables or fix tables. Our table was lopsided annoying at times.

Don Coqui screams, FUN! FUN! FUN!
Its the type of place you go with a large party because you know the food is good, drinks are big and strong, music is upbeat, the people are sexy, dancing is a must, and good times are a given.
I have been here for several birthday dinners. The custom menus they put together are cute and practical. Guest don’t spend hours looking through the full menu, and everyone stays within the same price point. Terrific!
Service is hit or miss, but this is overshadowed by all the fun being had.
