All Stars Project

I went with my bf to see, The Proverbial Loons, an improvised comedy musical and it was a spectacular show. I’m amazed at how the actors/​actresses perfectly improvised their acts. It is a must see. Shows the first Saturday of every month.

This non-profit’s mission is wonderful and executed beautifully.

This is a truly awesome and independent non-​profit organization. With no financial backing from the government, and therefore no government restrictions imposed on them, the All-​Stars Project does many things: puts on talent shows for kids in disadvantaged neighborhoods; teaches them all aspects of theatre, from writing plays to acting and dancing to production; teaches them how to perform in a corporate setting (how to write a resume, do a job interview, etc. Essentially, just how to act professional.) and helps them get internships; and they even have their own professional company, the Castillo Theater, which performs original works. This is their way of helping to build strong communities and giving lower-​income kids career opportunities that otherwise wouldn’t be available to them, and it works.
All of their support comes from private donations and they rely heavily on volunteers to help with everything. Everyone is just as nice as can be and really believes in what they’re doing, so this is a great place to volunteer and offers a wide range of options: wardrobe, building sets, fund raising, etc. and it’s also great if you simply want to start getting into the theatre world. They take some interns as well.
