Really disappointed in this place, especially after reading reviews. I came in for a haircut with Tina. The cut itself was just OK– I had asked her to thin my hair out, which she didn’t do. I could also have done without her smoking a cigarette while my hair was being washed by someone else… her hands reeked the entire haircut. After being told on the phone the price would be $ 85, I was upset after the girl at the desk simply swiped my credit card without telling me that Tina said to charge $ 100 because my «hair is thick.»… No one ever mentioned this to me when I called, nor before or after my haircut at the salon. Needless to say, I disputed the charge with my credit card company. I’ll stick with my go-to: Fringe on LES!

I love this hair salon! Fred gives me the best hair cuts and dye jobs I ever had. The staff is very sweet & friendly; from the assistants and the front desk staff. Cute small hair salon off the beating of path of 8th ave. I say treat yourself and ask for Fred!

I’ve been coming here for 7 plus years. Fred knows how to cut men’s hair, I look like a movie star when I leave. Thanks Fred!

Great spot! Extremely friendly and fun group of individuals that are a part of this fine salon. I’ve been coming back for 3 years to Tina who makes me look gooooooood. The place is very clean and full of great energy. Highly recommend!

BRAVOANDTHANKYOUFROM A FIRSTTIMECUSTOMER! Honestly, I’ve been living in a world of confusion and abandonment since my hair stylist of 15-yrs abruptly left NYC for Hawaii; therefore I have completely neglected my coiff for nearly 15-months! I discovered this salon as I was walking by one day and made a note to return. Finally today, I made an appointment and Shinpei-san gave me a gorgeous hair cut and I just can’t say how thrilled I am! He is very polite, thoughtful and extremely skillful(I get razor cuts which is hard to find) and most importantly, he listens to what I would like then makes careful suggestions.(Please do not see my Unilocal photo for reference) Added bonus! The price is pretty reasonable for Manhattan not to mention the décor of the salon is modern and very peaceful(not your typical loud music place) and everyone seemed very low key. It’s in a quite part of West Village which seems to suit their style.

i came here the first time on a friends reference. its on a side street in chelsea and pretty easy to get to. the girl at the desk can be a bit rude when she wants but i guess overall she does an ok job. to the hair. i got a good haircut actually but the shampoo kind of ruined my experience here. my barber was a guy named Fred and he was quite pleasant but the rest of the staff walked around with a face on if they just came from a funeral. overrated.

I came here with my Mom to get a blow out. My Mom got a hair cut /style and she loved her new do. My hair was done well and I really appreciated that they were careful when they combed my wet hair out. It gets extremely tangled and they took their time and were gentle while combing it out. My stylist was super nice and kept light conversation during the long process of blow drying /styling my super long, super thick horse’s mane. I’d definitely come back for a cut and style.

I randomly found this salon about 6 years ago after several bad haircuts and hating what a «scene» my old salon had become… I’ve been going to Fred ever since and I can honestly say that he has NEVER, ever given me a bad haircut. I get bored with the same cut every time and often come in with photos of new things I want to try, and he always recommends the best way to do it, or makes another suggestion… One thing to note, rather than styling it the way you want at the end, he always does a super-straight blow out so he can check that the cut is even. He’s meticulous! Expect a perfect cut, but not to look like the photo until you do it yourself at home…

I was walking around the neighborhood and was really craving a haircut and color — I found this on a Unilocal and called them while I was up the block. They were able to accommodate me if I was able to get there soon, and so it happened. Stephen(or Steven?) gave me really great caramel highlights and also dark brown lowlights(?) to return me back to my youth… lol… His haircut must have taken 5 pounds off my face and it looked great! At first I was paranoid that maybe the color was too loud as I saw my reflection in the train window, but after the initial shock wore off I was and am still diggin’ it!

I went to this salon for the first time yesterday and was really pleasantly surprised. I work close to the salon and went in for a blow out at lunch time and they were able to take me as a walk-in, which was great. I love my current salon where I go to get my cut and color but I’ve moved apartments so it’s a little difficult to get to now. I’m not necessarily looking for a new place but since it was right by my job I figured why not. The salon has 4 – 5 chairs so it’s on the smaller side, which I like. It’s also all white with lovely plants so it feels clean and modern but not cold — like a nice spa. It’s also nice that it’s off of a side street so there wasn’t an insane amount of city noise pushing its way into the space. John was my stylist who did a fabulous job and styled my hair exactly as I had asked. He also didn’t push different products or services on me — I actually had to ask what he was using — and when I asked for a product recommendation for a specific issue he actually told me about something that wasn’t sold at the salon, which really built credibility with me. My hair looked so great that even my boyfriend noticed how great it looked and asked if I could go get blowouts from John every week, ha. The owner has an unbelievably cute Chihuahua which every patron was enjoying holding and petting, when he wasn’t sitting on his little bed. Definite bonus points in my book. The only reason I’m giving this place 4 stars is that I kinda feel like I can really only give it 5 once I have either cut or color done(and if the experience is outstanding, of course) — I mean, a blow out is low on the totem pole of services to really be going crazy about.

GREATATMOSPHERE. GREATSTYLISTS. GREATCUT. I checked out this salon while subletting an apartment a few doors down the street and reading about them on Unilocal.I couldn’t be happier! I have really thick, long hair, and Tina did an AMAZING job in less time than other stylists have taken to cut my hair. The final result was exactly what I wanted — which is excellent for a first cut with someone new! The atmosphere is lovely, too — very warm, friendly, funny, no BS. Like a big family: stylist and customers.

Really like this place– no BS here, which I find extremely refreshing. The atmosphere is very relaxed and down-to-earth although the salon is beautiful. I have not once had to turn down solicitations for unnecessary products or services. They also do a great job on color and cuts, Anthony in particular does an amazing job of cut and color. I also like that the stylists are all smart and friendly. None of the usual inane conversation– you can actually have a fun conversation with every member of the staff! They also have really good coffee and often have cute dogs visiting the place. Both are big pluses for me!

The Anthony Gianzero salon is not merely a place to get your hair done, it is an experience unto itself. Co-owner Micky takes great pains to make sure the environment is pleasing to the senses, and he is never satisfied. The décor changes with the season, a combination of subtle modernism and colorful, organic ornamentation. Whatever shapes the interior decorations take, they are always a testament to Micky’s phenomenal design sense, . No sooner do you sit in the, and no sooner did I arrive than I was offered a glass of wine. The staff are(almost) universally friendly, from the hair artists themselves to their quiet and assiduous assistants. This goes triply for the eponymous Anthony Gianzero, who is kindness, savvy, hilarity, and talent– most of all talent– all wrapped in tattoos. All this praise for the environment and people is dandy for a bar or lounge, but the true value comes when you leave the salon. Quite simply, I have never received so many compliments on my hair as the day I started coming to the Gianzero salon for my monthly cut. I have since recommended Anthony Gianzero to anyone who will listen, and everyone from friends to family, has thanked me for it. You will too.
