Aux Merveilleux De Fred

I got one Coffee meringue. Tasted really yummy. I just passed by and stunned by their window display. The bakery shop was small, the selection is limited.

I knew this place was going to be amazing as soon as I smelled it from outside. They offered us a piece of brioche when we stepped in, and I knew I was about to spend a lot of money. I was with a friend, so we got the mini Merveilleux sampler, and each of us got a brioche. Since she had studied abroad in France, she additionally bought a meringue.
The obvious star were the Merveilleux. Each was so good in their own way! Out of the 6 flavors, the favorite was the «Incredible», Speculoos cinnamon cookie and white chocolate. I think the mini is the perfect size, and I’m not entirely sure if they could maintain the airiness in the larger form, but I was so blown away. Everything else was delicious as well, but it’s the Merveilleux I still crave.

I think it’s a very very traditional, fine French bakery. Sadly I’m not an experts on any of their special pastry. So the main thing that they have is the ones made of whip cream– 6 flavors and I tried 4. I love the coffee one– very flavorful, the rest aren’t really my thing.
If you are the lover of this type of pastry– make sure to stop by. They make everything in house and you can see them making some of them in the store ;)

Cute bake shop with all their beautifully made meringues displayed in the front window. We ordered about 8 of their small sizes, one of each of their available flavors. Each one is fluffy and light but a little on the sweet side. By our 7^th it felt like a little too much so I’d recommend ordering what you can eat right away and not over ordering like we did. They come in cute little take out boxes but by the time we brought them home the oils had soaked through the box and they weren’t appetizing anymore.
We also ordered the chocolate brioche which turned out to be enormous, like size of your entire face enormous. Between the two of us we couldn’t finish the brioche either but it was good to try.
There’s no seating so we took our goods to the park down the block where they had plenty of benches. Cute spot, don’t know if I’d come back by it was nice to try.

Location: Located 8^th Ave, Aux Merveilleux seems to be the stood out one around the neighborhood. With big clear glass, I can see through the whole store — clean, elegant and delicious. Yeah, I can see deliciousness
The whole store is divided by bakery part and front sale part. When you are stepped into the store, you will be treated kindly by their staffs. Their English with that french accent makes me wonder if I got back to French again.
While I took my time figuring out what I should have, I was offered with chocolate brioche. OH, dear, you are flung out of space. The chocolate is dense and creamy and brioche is smoothly moisture with the dense chocolate. Very well done!
Food: at last, I ordered every thing — A sampler box of merveilleux, chocolate brioche. I told myself that I should take my time and enjoy the staff but those merveilleux are so good that I finished within an hour. CRAP! Now, I want to have another bite again and I ran out …
All merveilleux flavors are legit and good. I would recommend y’all get everything and judge by yourself.
Overall: it is as good as bread bakery. The only disadvantage here is limited selection of bakeries. I mightn’t have merveilleux everyday but I definitely will feed myself brioche everyday tho. So, yeah, I am team Aux Merveilleux De Fred rather than team bread bakery.

Tried two merveilleux today after a filling lunch — dark chocolate and the speculoos one. It essentially was just meringue with chocolate pieces and filling. The speculoos one was way too sweet with the white chocolate.
Not too impressed, but I want to try their brioches.

Found this gem while walking around NYC today.
Took home a sampler box of Merveilleux. What a treat.

What a gem! Gorgeous French men in white aprons serve delicious, affordable, and authentic french pastries.
The selection is slightly off kilter for a boulangerie catering to americans. I had never had a merveilleux and usually will reach for a meringue only in addition to a fat chocolate chip cookie. I had never ordered a chocolate chip brioche either, which btw in appearance strangely resemble chinese baked roast pork buns. But these are the offerings, and you won’t find any pain au chocolat here. I shall return.

Divine decadence. No wonder French pastries rock around the world! Creamy and not too sweet. Glad the merveilleux come in bite size. Had the cherry one. Will go back to try the chocolate and white chocolate ones. They also come in caramel, coffee, and hazelnut/​praline.
Pricey but worth it!

Truly marvelous merveilleux! My coworker brought these to work one day and I was instantly smitten. They’re such pretty and delicate creations of wispy, melt-​in-​your-​mouth meringue covered in chocolate shards or even more caramelized meringue. It’s kind of expensive at $ 2.25 apiece, but I imagine the fragile, three-​bite-​sized confections and the West Village storefront warrants that kind of price. I’d highly recommend the white chocolate and the hazelnut flavors.

1– the customer service is impeccable. The associate was polite, answered all my questions, all with a smile.
2. The merveilleux are delicious! The exterior was light and airy and inside the cream was sweet but not cloying.
I miss this place already. :(

Dark Belgian chocolate goodness is meringue heaven ! Plain and simple so glad I stopped by.

Aux Merveilleux de Fred is marvelous indeed! I’ve never been a huge fan of meringues, but something about AMdF’s Incroyable (speculoos) makes me dream about them all the time. It’s like biting into a buttery scoop of ice cream, with flakes of white chocolate and speculoos (gingerbread) cookie.
At $ 2 each, I’m glad I don’t live in the area. Otherwise, I’d be there ALL THE TIME.
Their brioche is also solid. I prefer the raisin one to the chocolate, but both are delicious. And everyone who works there seems to be French! Incroyable!

All I had here was the chocolate chip brioche, but I had no idea that this was all I would ever need for the rest of my life. The baker handed me this massive brioche in a white paper bag and warned me it was hot, that I should leave the bag open for ten minutes while it cools down.
It was 60 degrees out and rules didn’t apply so I dug in right away. This is the most perfect texture of brioche I’ve ever had. This is what dreams are made of.

AMAZING!!! I’ve never had a dessert with a texture like these. Aux Merveilleux De Fred is impossible to pronounce but super possible to splurge on and not break the bank. Very beautiful desserts that will send your taste-​buds and texture-​buds soaring. I’ve had both the caramel and dark chocolate and would highly recommend them both. Both times I’ve stopped by, I’ve received a free pastry sample, which were SOOO GOOD. Really recommend stopping by here and getting some to go. Guarantee your girlfriend will love you if you surprise her with these.

I love bakeries. But I especially love this place. Everything is very very genuine. The place, the people, and the food… Oh man.
First, the people who work there are great people. They love what they do and they care for their customers.
There are many delicious items here but I think my favorite one is the brioche.
They have a sugar brioche and a chocolate brioche but they are both amazing. They look so pretty and taste even better, melting in your mouth.
Don’t hesitate to stop by. Do not think twice.
Tip: get the brioche in the morning when they are warm, it will change your perspective on life! (they are still good when cold though)

I am gonna continue its trend on Unilocal for Aux — keep it with five star rating, it well deserved it.
The store was small with no table, only cakes for display. Six flavors were offered — dark chocolate, white chocolate, coffee, cherry, hazelnut and caramel. We were recommended to get coffee and dark chocolate, which were both creamy yet not too sweet. They offer cakes of a smaller size as well.
Our pastry chef was also nice enough to offer us some free tries! Love it!

When I was greeted inside, I wasn’t sure if it was in NYC or France! Everyone works there seemed to have a French accent, which I’m totally happy about it. It means it’s authentic!
I got 2 merveilleux (the hazelnut one and the dark chocolate one) and a chocolate chip brioche to go.
The merveilleux is light, but flavorful treat that is relatively inexpensive. The brioche was soft and had the right amount of sweetness.

We happened to be walking to Big Gay Ice Cream when our night took a fortuitous delicious detour upon seeing Aux Merveilleux appear out of nowhere. It’s a quaint little bakery with a large bright window front displaying beautiful golden brown Brioches and their specialty Merveilleux.
We tried a white chocolate Merveilleux (meringue) and both the sweet brioche and the brioche with chocolate chips. The Merveilleux was very unique to any dessert that I have tried before. Very sweet, airy, rich and delicious. Difficult to describe, you must try for yourself.
The brioches had a wonderful balance of fresh sweet, buttery and doughy flavor. I heated up some of the brioches the next day in the microwave and they were still amazing. This bakery is an incredible addition to the area and offers something very unique that I have yet to see before in New York City.
The pricing was very reasonable in my opinion for the quality of their product. The staff working was really welcoming and clearly excited about their deliciously awesome products.
We will most certainly be back. Probably next weekend!
