This is my favorite barre studio! Every instructor that I had was super upbeat and helpful. They all had great energy and always made sure you were in the right form but having fun at the same time. They all often reiterated that it was important that you did what felt good for your own body on that day — which made me feel more comfortable about modifying positions as I felt was right. I also have loved every playlist in the classes here, which definitely makes the workout more enjoyable!
In terms of the studio — there is only 1 room for classes, but it always feels clean. There are 2 medium sized changing rooms and 1 huge bathroom. There are no showers, but they do provide dry shampoo, makeup remover wipes and deodorant. There are also small lockers around the waiting area with key locks for your belongings.

I am confused about my feelings for barre3. I absolutely loved it at first but I had only gone to one instructor many times (Brittany) but it now seems her schedule has changed and so has my experiences. My first non Brittany experience with Julienne was good class wise– I broke a sweat but I did not like her method of teaching. She actually had attitude when people got confused and broke out of position because she did, yelling repeatedly «don’t copy me! I’m the teacher! I don’t stay in position the whole time!» And actually scolded me when I got out of position for a second when she did! If she could actually read my mind I got out of position because my wrists were hurting on the wood floor during tricep push ups but thanks for the scolding anyway. If I wanted to be scolded I’d head over to boot camp. My other experience with Becky was better attitude wise, she seems very nice but gave me just one correction the entire class, yes I’ve had barre experience but I’m not that perfect! Also I did not sweat at all during this class and could have really done without having the last 10 minutes be just stretching. Maybe because I don’t like yoga but I wanted to feel more burn. I really thought that was a drown out waste of time especially since I wasn’t achy from the class. I will definitely give barre3 another chance, and I would still recommend it to a friend but I hope my future experiences resemble my first ones!

I really love the barre3 approach. There are more yoga principles involved and many, many modifications. It’s an environment where you are encouraged to listen to your body and make adjustments as needed.
Physique 57 is still my favorite in NYC for a good workout but if I were to teach barre, I’d rather spread and preach this approach because it’s so accessible to all.

Upon entering the studio at barre3 you will notice lots of windows. On a sunny day this can be an issue as the sun might be in your eyes or beating down on you. The two times I have been to barre3, I have carefully tried to chose my spot to avoid being in the sun, but as the sun moves it may still find you. The barre on the window side is higher than the barre on the mirror side; however, I am tall and have been on both sides of the room without issue.
The class itself has all the typical barre elements, but what makes barre3 different is the long amounts of time you spend in each position. You will do many reps during each exercise. The routine does get monotonous and after a few too many squats and arm & leg lifts during the warm-​up you’ll be itching to move on. In all parts of the class whether it be at the barre, ab work, or seat work you will spend a lot of time doing the same things, so you better hope it is not too painful.
My most recent instructor, Becky, was energetic and positive, offering the right amount of feedback. At my first class I had a male instructor and I did not enjoy his class as much. Barre3 does not have a locker room, but offers lockers with keys and places to change. I think at some point I will give barre3 another try, but I know there are better equipped barre studios in the city.

While I’ve only been here twice for community classes, it ranks up in the top of my fav barre studios. I recently unpaused classpass, so Im excited to start going again! Instructors and staff were super friendly both times
The format is pretty standard, arms in the beginning, thighs, seat and abs. I actually broke a sweat both classes, so it ranks up there in being more cardio focused.
Both instructors I had were quite upbeat, helpful with form, asked about injuries. Depending on your spot at the barre you may end up facing 8^th St or 6^th Abe, which I enjoyed because the street activity was a good distraction while I wanted to die (in a good way) during the thigh portion hahah!
Taking one star off because there are no showers and I don’t think I could get away with dry shampoo and a body wipe after the class before work.
If you’re looking for a more cardio like barre class this is definitely one to try out!

Before attending a class here, I read the review below referencing the smell, and thought — meh, she must be extra sensitive to smell or it was a bad day /​there’s no way it could be that bad…
BUT THEN OMG.
I took a class and my nose and head were so assaulted by the odor that I pretty much wanted to vomit from the moment I arrived — and it was not from the toughness of the work out.
This studio sits directly atop a Taiwanese bakery that fries pork /​rolls /​sweets /​beans… all sorts of crap that could theoretically be yummy… but if you’ve ever walked the streets of Chinatown on a rainy day — you *know* how bad this odor is!!! Mix it with heaters and body sweat and body odor — and holy cow, what a concoction for the senses. I mean — they could bottle & sell this s&*t to knock somebody out.
On the other hand, the studio does have beautiful natural light … but I could barely enjoy it because I had my head between my knees the whole time trying to keep my breakfast down.
I just can’t imagine ever going back, or recommending this place to anyone else. I don’t want barre3 to go out of business (It’s not a bad workout… I mean not great, but not awful) but they truly need to find a new location asap if they have any hope of surviving.

Love this barre studio! I’ve been to many other barre classes in the city and have had the most fun here. There is more of an emphasis on cardio and each class I’ve been to has been very different. The music is loud and fun and the instructors are very upbeat.

this place used to be so pleasant. some unevenness with the instructors (someone train everyone how to use the mic. fun fact: if you can hear yourself breathing, the mic is too loud), but overall people are friendly and the classes are challenging. then came class pass, and now every class is too crowded and unless you show up ten minutes before class starts, your spot is gone. even if you’ve been coming religiously for a year and you’re paying way more than you can afford on a monthly membership and you’re two minutes early.. . gone. i guess it was fun while it lasted, barre3.

I really enjoyed the new member unlimited package that I purchased for barre3. The classes focus on strengthening and lengthening as opposed to a lot of other barre classes I’ve taken that tend to make you bulky. I love that each instructor has their own class routine instead of the same class every time!
However, my reason for only giving barre3 3 stars is twofold, and took some times to realize:
For starters, from the moment you walk into barre3 it smells like something died. I’m not even kidding it’s actually hard to breath it smells so bad. That combined with the smell of body odor in the studio is reason enough to not return. When I mentioned it to the receptionist she shrugged it off– this happened multiple times. I’m not sure what it was so hard for them to buy a scented candle and light it for a couple hours, but that’s just my opinion.
The second thing I didn’t like about barre3, and the main reason I will not be returning is the music. Many of the teachers use the same playlist almost every class. By the end of my unlimited month, I knew their playlists by heart. Where’s the fun in that?! If I’m paying $ 30/​class, a playlist should never be repeated in the same class within a month. This is definitely where they could use a lesson from the folks at soulcycle. The music is one of the most important things to motivate so when the same songs are playing its not as fun. Not to mention for many of the teachers their music choices were just flat out bad. One of my favorite part about boutique workout studios is the awesome music they bring to the table.
Barre3 has so much potential but I ended up being really frustrated and disappointed by the end of my month.

If you are used to the Bar Method or P57, this is more of a barre meets yoga. It’s exercises are in a different order also. I had been getting used to the Bar Method, so when you do arms in the middle of the class it’s a little «what is this nonsense?» I got the vibe that there was more variety in the class makeups which is nice. There was far less stretching than I’m used to in barre classes.
But I actually liked this, it left you guessing as to what came next and made class go a lot faster. It also seemed slightly less lululemon-​y than other barre studios which was nice. Due to the placement of the windows, you can see out on to 6^th Ave. during class which is nice, and there is a lot of natural light.
It’s monthly membership is also much cheaper than other barre studios, which is nice. They don’t have showers, but I can shower at home, so it’s a good deal.

Barre3 is awesome. Daily classes are out of my price range, but I came her the first time last year to try a free class and came back for by birthday. I love pilates, yoga and barre, and have tried MANY studios in NYC. Both times I’ve come to Barre3, I left feeling like it was something really different. The sequence and movements are unique enough to keep you engaged (not like some barre studios where you repeat the same class every time you’re there). There’s a mix of fast and slow (full body) workouts throughout class. The music was well chosen. Both teachers I took class with had a way of pushing students to take on challenges and keep up with difficult moves while simultaneously emphasizing joy, stability and comfortability in movement. Really great instructors.

I am so glad I found this place. I used to go to «The Bar Method» classes in Los Angeles, and was looking for something similar.
I’m very lazy when it comes to working out, so I knew I needed a class to help strengthen and tone my muscles, especially since I’m so sedentary during the day, working in front of a computer!
I’m not the most coordinated person, so I loved the instructions and encouragements given though out the class. I always find it annoying to attend classes where the instructors assume you’ve been there so many times, that they don’t bother giving heads up on steps or movements.
I attended two so far, both with Becky, and she was awesome! And she was great in giving encouragement, and even if you’re starting out or have done this for years, she gives you options to make it easier or harder.
I definitely left with my muscles shaking and I knew that every part of my body had some kind of work out!
Pro tip: If you’re not sure about the classes, definitely go for the New Client 3 class package. It’s a pretty good bargain for the first initial times. And like most things, you should always try something new 3 times, before deciding to stop.

Being a fan of barre classes and having tried Physique 57, and Flybarre (have never tried Corefusion) I wanted to try this place out. They have more reasonable prices than the other two. It’s far from my apt but I received a promotion for 3 classes for $ 50 and wanted to give it a try. I took two of CJ’s Friday morning 7:15am classes, and one of Jill’s Thurs 7:15am class. I appreciate that they have early classes since that’s the only times I can really work out. Both classes were different:
CJ– her classes are more intense and challenging, I feel. Having taken two classes also I feel she mixes up the exercise. With a strong mix of toning, cardio, and untraditional balancing exercises, she tried her best to get each body part. Additionally, she is an awesome instructor. She is very upbeat, energetic and plays really good music. Some are TBT!
Jill– her classes have a good cardio element but I find are more ballet/​yoga based and as such, not as… grueling maybe? Haha. I love her as an instructor though– she’s quieter but still as encouraging.
Both are a great mix. And the studio is nice. Nice big windows, spacious, not too many people but can def get crowded– CJ’s Fri am class was a bit crowded the last time I took it. They have cubby lockers but not much else for facilities (no showers, etc). The front desk people are nice.
The bar format is what you’d expect if you’re familiar with this routine — work your core, butt, thighs and arms. In a «low impact» way though I actually found because of Phyisque 57’s facilities (carpeting, etc) it’s more low impact than Barre3. Flybarre is more high impact as it goes at a faster pace and incorporates some unusual exercises that are so grueling, esp for your abs.
I don’t live in the West Village so not sure if I’d come back– it’s not as much of a destination as P57 (I really do appreciate the blue carpeting! I’m recovering from an injury so high impact is kind of bad for me right now) but I’m sure it’s much cheaper a l carte. Would recommend if in the area.

What a lovely, friendly studio overlooking 6^th Ave! It was much smaller and more packed than I expected, though.
Barre3 is more yoga-​inspired and has a longer warm-​up than other barre classes I’ve taken, but is just as if not more challenging. It was broken out into a warm-​up, legs, combo work, arms, and glutes on the barre, followed by an ab sequence on the floor, and then some sweet and cathartic stretches at the end. That barre shake!
I was lucky enough to take a free class here for my birthday and really enjoyed it. It’s hard and sweaty. It’s not *quite* as hard as Flybarre (in my humble opinion), but I liked the integration of yoga because it’s sooo nice to stretch after each portion.
The pricing is on par with other classes at ~$ 32/​class, which, honestly, makes it hard for me to justify buying a class pack. But I think I’ll be back, some way/​somehow. I hope so!

Ok. I want to start off by saying that I have never, ever invested the time and energy into writing a Unilocal review. In fact, I never thought there would be a reason to. However, I had an exercise experience the other day that really raised the bar (pun intended) for me! All winter, I fell victim to being really lazy and it was time to make a change. I joined a gym about a month ago, which i admit has been a complete waist of time and money because i get really bored at the gym and never really challenge myself in the same way I would when taking a class. With that being said, I have never tried a barre class before and have heard great things about barre3 so i decided to give it a whirl after work one day.
I took Jenna’s class and all i can say is WOW. The studio was so clean and Jenna was so sweet, energetic and knowledgeable in her craft. You could just tell from the get-​go that it was going to be a good time. And, holy toledo, was it a good time! My legs were shaking, my head was sweating and I was really struggling and feeling the burn. Jenna was so much fun and really made all of the ‘misery’, enjoyable! It was one of the most comprehensive, all-​encompassing workouts i have ever done. I felt so good after i left and two days later i can attest that Jenna really put this body to work in the best way possible. I still can ‘barrely’ sit down/​walk. At the end of the day, you are really getting a bang for your buck when attending barre3.

YES! Finally Barre3 has arrived in NYC.
Many people might wonder, what makes Barre3 different from the myriad of other barre workouts in town? After all, we’ve got pop physique, the barre method, pure barre, yadda yadda yadda. Well, the truth is, each of these variations has their own twists and routines, and it’s not a one-​size-​fits-​all situation.
I first fell in love with Barre3 when I lived in Seattle back in 2011 – 2012. It was my go-​to in-​between distance running and really held me accountable for core strengthening. The easiest way to describe the workout is a hybrid of mat pilates mixed with a little bit of ballet and aerobics. There’s a touch of yoga as well, but overall the workout is much more fast paced. While yoga focuses on breath and strength in stillness, I’d say Barre3 focuses on breath&body connection and controlled movements.
YOU WILL SWEAT. this is not what I would call a low-​key mat pilates type of workout. HOWEVER, you can always modify things to your fitness level /​ability /​injuries /​how hungover you might be (!).
the staff is extremely friendly and warm, and everyone focuses on his or her own practice so you don’t have to feel self conscious while you’re in the studio. There was even a rather famous actress in my class this morning, although nobody bothered her (I am not much for celeb harassing) — but that just goes to show you how chill everyone is.
So excited that my favourite barre class is here on the east coast!

I can’t say enough great things about Barre3 West Village. I was a bit apprehensive when signing up for a monthly membership, since the Barre locations are franchises and each a bit different. However I love my Barre3 at home, and wanted to continue exercising especially in the winter months. Since purchasing a condo in Miami, I figured Barre3 would be the perfect way to stay in shape and become even more fit.
The class sizes are small (this location just opened three months ago) however this often means personalized one on one attention from the instructors which I love. Before each class the instructors ask how everyone is feeling, and they have been more than considerate to the fact that I run long distance five days a week and sometimes have various aches/​pains. The instructors are so great (Jules in particular) that they customize their workouts to your needs and help you modify positions of something does feel right or isn’t working. Despite the fact that I have been running almost all my life, I love waking up sore every morning from the «barre3 inch». The combination of yoga, ballet, and Pilates is genius and works my muscles like never before.

Fitness studios are opening up left and right in manhattan, and barre 3 is a welcome addition to the bunch. Barre3 is barre meets yoga and ballet. Similar to core fusion and physique 57, the workout centers around the Ballet barre. Where the class differs is a better focus on form, balance and using ones own body versus props.
The studio is beautiful. Lots of light, wooden floor (carpet at some like physique ick). And roomy space outside the studio itself. Classes are 1 hour, so ya 10 more minutes of torture. My instructor cj was fantastic. She’s this hot Asian chick and crazy fit. Ya jealous. She was phenomenal at demonstration, great playlist, while being laser focused on form. I tend to bad posture and she was constantly focused on my shoulders and correcting my positioning.
Similar to other studios, there are no showers. But dry shampoo and wipes. Ya a downside, but I belong to equinox so it’s just down the street. The workout definitely generates a sweat, so definitely a post workout primp is necessary. Barre 3 is a definite awesome workout and a booty buster!
