So the class is very challenging and a great work out. The studio is really clean and open. Really loved my first class here.
But the receptionist Michelle here is the best! My locker had issues opening and she spent 35 mins trying to open it for me, not giving up. She’s amazing :)

Flex Barre via Class pass.
Really good class! Any barre class is tough but this class incorporates other movements — cardio, core, arms. The weight is never heavy (we used 3 lb weights the whole time). It is a decently smaller class (about 8 – 10). Facilities are nice. I consider myself an avid gym goer and i thoroughly enjoyed this class.. Will definitely be returning.

Have only taken Barre and TRX classes here and both are solid, especially Lauren’s TRX class. She is always clear with instruction, has perfect demo, and count down (you would be surprised how many instructors don’t know how to count). Also, I love her class structure which alternates between cardio and TRX so you never stop moving (gotta keep that heart rate up!) TRX portions are often broken down into sets that target different muscle groups. Most moves are pretty standard but Lauren does a great job of correcting everyone’s form and challenging you to make it harder each time. I also really like the all out burpees at the end, always leaves me breathless in the best way.
The studio is clean and spacious. However, there is no shower so it may not be ideal to take early morning class (unless you’re okay with rolling into the office looking like a sweaty mess!) They do have a changing room with everything you need to clean up after class though (dry shampoo, make up removers, blow dryer, etc.)

Flex on 14^th is very conveniently located and offers TRX classes which I enjoy.
I first took it with Jack who I found both irritating and easy. The class had too many breaks and focused too much on one muscle group at a time. Jack’s nice, but he had us going around listing our fave cocktails and least fave celebrities while planking. Honestly, I’d rather focus on the workout than inane topics. I believe he has since moved from NYC though.
I took TRX last night with Angela and it was a totally different story. She uses the TRX straps to tone arms, back, core and legs interspersed with cardio bursts. I was sweating my face off during the entire class. Angela runs it almost tabata-​style where you rest for short, 15 sec periods and continue with the exercise /​cardio for 45 sec — 1 minute. It results in a high intensity, calorie blasting workout. Plus I like her unique playlist.
Though Angela isn’t on the schedule for TRX yet, I really hope Flex puts her on it! I love her intensity in the Pilates classes I’ve taken in NoHo too. See review here:

So I finally was able to actually try the ³⁰⁄₃₀ class at Flex Studios in Union Square after an elevator and lock out disaster at their other location, but I am mixed in my opinion.
The studio is spacious bright and clean and the instructor I had was friendly, energized, and wanted you to get out the most from your hour that you could.
That said, I was under the impression it would be 30 minutes of barre and then 30 of pilates in a civilized calm manner. This was the end of a week of hard classes, and so I thought this would be a little of two things I love. Boy was I wrong.
I feel like they try to fit an hour of each into the 30 minute portions. Unexpected though not bad in the barre section (though I did sweat my butt off– it was tough), their pilates portion I felt was kind of unsafe and not pilates at all. (except for one exercise at the end).
In the pilates class we first stood on the machines base and did like 25 lunges on each side, with the other foot on the moving carriage, with the machine on the lightest resistance band. This is super dangerous, especially for newbies. Luckily I am not, but I could not believe this was the first (seemingly standard) move– I think it is very dangerous. Besides, it was just lunging on a reformer… not REALLY pilates. If it was a pilates exercise we would have been facing sideways and using our inner thighs and core to pull the leg back. Core was not mentioned once.
After that, it was a fast paced comedy of non-​reformer pilates moves in my opinion. The final exercise, foot in strap circles, WAS what I was expecting and liked. I just felt they tried to make the pilates too fast paced and there was no attention paid to form. Pilates is about control, breath and using your core. None of which was mentioned.
I am not saying it was not a good workout, it just wasn’t what I expected. I would try it again, but maybe just their barre class– not sure this is a real pilates workout.

This is my very first classpass use. I plan to review every fitness boutique that I visit.
I took my very first barre class last night and am incredibly sore (in a good way)! My instructor, Kelsey, was very motivating! I was so nervous when I got there and actually told her that and she made me feel so at ease. I worked up such a sweat and felt so accomplished afterwards!
The studio has a modern fun design and is very clean. Their are automatic lockers to use and free towels and water.
I am definitely going to come back and try out some more classes! Thanks for such an incredible first barre class!

What a killer, full-​body workout. I took the Flex Pilates class and was truly blown away by how hard and (hopefully) effective the machine and movements were. Jackie was awesome, making helpful adjustments (will definitely be needed your first class). I highly suggest wearing the grippy socks as certain moves/​poses on the machine can make it very easy to slip if you are just wearing normal socks. Gorgeous and huge studio, NO showers though, so I wouldn’t suggest taking this class during your lunch break (as I did), because you will sweat! Can’t wait to go back and try the other class offerings.

This is a review for the barre class.
Pros: The studio is beautiful. The playlist was great. Jessica was encouraging, energetic, and fit (which I always appreciate in instructors). I liked that there was cardio mixed in.
Cons: She never corrected anyone’s form. This was especially bad because for a lot of the sets, she would want us to do them double-​time. I didn’t think that was particularly useful when half the class wasn’t doing the exercises correctly at normal speed.
But overall, I liked the studio and would try again.

Massive fan. I have always hated pilates and barre as I lack any core strength despite years of dance training in my youth and yoga practice as an adult. Pilates also always felt really boring. Flex Pilates, not so! The classes are conducted on unique carriages that are a hybrid of a Pilates reformer, Pilates chair, the torture machine from The Princess Bride, and a Bowflex.
So the class is basically a series of lunges, planks, squats, armwork and abwork using springs, pedals, weights, balance, and serious creativity to tone basically everything you would ever want to tone. Suddenly I find myself going to my hardcore 95 minute vinyasa yoga classes «to relax» and this is where the real work happens. If you think this is 55 minutes lying on your back doing ab pulses, think again. This is a full body workout — and HARD — that produces results. The only reason it gets four stars is that it requires an advanced skill set. I do cardio seven days a week, plus five days of vinyasa yoga, I have a dance background and I eat super healthy — and I still feel like a failure in each class. I can’t see this class as comfortable for beginners, as I’m constantly terrified of falling off the equipment at any time and breaking something. But for super fit people wanting to take it to the next level, go go GO!

I’m a recovering barre addict, and love the diversity of classes get at Flex Studios. With my previous barre studio membership i was getting a bit bored. With Barre, Pilates and TRX you have the perfect blend of complementary classes that will keep you on your toes and learning new things.
Pilates: the studio has their own, custom designed reformer machines you won’t see anywhere else, with smart and thoughtful additions to traditional machines. The first class may be intimidating, but after a few classes I felt much more confident. Also, if you notice specific moves that are hard for you, talk to the instructor. They have excellent tips for how to overcome any hurdle (i.e. high arches, poor balance, etc.)
Barre: this is not like traditional barre classes. Unlike places like Pure Barre, It has several «cardio bursts» — guaranteed to make this the sweatiest barre class you ever take (which is good!) Its good for barre students that want to add the diversity of pilates and trx to their workout. They do far fewer hands-​on corrections here and it is a little less «systematic» in terms of exhausting specific muscle groups compared to pure barre, so i miss that, but i still appreciate how they fill the cardio gap.
TRX: Also a sweaty workout with «cardio bursts», you may be laughing at how difficult this is, and you’ll laugh even more if you have Jack as your instructor. To me this is the most strenuous of all three classes.
The best part about this studio is the diversity, and i love the ³⁰⁄₃₀ classes that mix pilates with barre or TRX. This is exactly what i was looking for to avoid boredom and routine. The worst part — cost. Its an expensive studio, but you get what you pay for. Small class sizes, easy booking, one of a kind machines, perfect blend of classes and great instructors. Kelsey, Jess, Jack, Chrysetta are a few of my faves.
Pro tip: There are no showers. and you will sweat. alot. Do not plan a hot date for right after class.

Seems like all the awesome studios are in FlatIron (Peloton, The Movement, now Flex Studios). I took one of the free Flex Community classes here. Apparently they are extremely hard to book on Classpass b/​c they only offer one or two spots
The barre class was a great strengthening workout. The instructor Jackie was great! I think I have really bad form, b/​c she kept on coming over to correct me. I was grateful for that, but man was I suffering. There are lockers and changing rooms in the back. During the class they provide mats, 3 pound weights, and a really squishy ball that was fun to play with. If you manage to get into a class through Classpass don’t give up that spot. Also keep a lookout for their free Community classes, which are easier to get into than their Classpass offerings.

This place is awesome! I have been in NYC 5 months and have tried about over 10 pilates/​barre/​trx classes and this studio tops them all! I have only done the pilates and trx so far — but push you to work up a sweat and tone your body (even areas you didn’t know could be toned!) The instructors are creative and helpful. I can’t believe there is ever an open spot in these classes bc they should be booked full! 5 stars!

I really love this studio. I had been looking for a place that did a full-​body sculpt on a Pilates reformer, to music and keeping it fun. I found out this used to be affiliated with Pilates Proworks, which I’m a fan of, so gave it a try. I was pleasantly surprised that it takes it to another level! The reformers are a bit different; they add another leg element that I love (kind of like the levers at Chaise Fitness). The barre classes are awesome too; I’ve brought friends and everyone was sweating! Chrysetta really keeps up with the new music! Thanks again.

Bright, modern studio with challenging classes and motivating instructors. I haven’t tried their Pilates or TRX classes yet, but their barre classes are fast-​paced and fun. Chrysetta in particular is a great instructor.
My only gripe about the barre classes I’ve taken is that I feel like they don’t divide the types of exercise evenly enough. In my class today, we spent so much time on our butt that my hip flexors really started to hurt. I thought some of the time devoted to glutes could have been used for more barre work on the thighs. But what do I know!
All in all, this is a place you should definitely try out, especially if you have Classpass.

Flex is in a great location, has a nice studio, and is REALLY challenging. Of all the barre/​pilates classes I’ve done before I think this one was the hardest. When I did the pilates class I seriously felt like the teacher secretly was like, OOH, which muscles does Ellen not have? YES LET’S DO THOSE! ALL OF THOSE. (not that this would actually happen irl, but anyway…)
I think the main downside to this studio for is that it doesn’t have showers. MUST. NOT. SWEAT.

I’m very picky about Pilates & Barre ~ want both to be challenging & FUN.
This place delivers! They rock! I took classes with Jenn & Lanae & was both impressed & challenged. They are exactly what instructors should be~ fit (of course), fun, focused, friendly, fantastic! They get it (Pilates-​based exercises are different from anything else & you want an instructor who understands & explains it right).
Barre & Pilates are my passion so I was really, really happy to find this gem.

I love Flex! It’s tied with Flybarre/​Flywheel as my favorite barre studio. I’ve taken two FlexBarre classes with Lanae. She’s fun, upbeat, and challenging and makes class fly by.
Barre is one form of exercise I was slow to embrace, mostly because I was afraid it would be filled with stick thin, super flexible ballerina types, but I’ve noticed all shapes and sizes here and it’s undeniably a killer workout. Like another reviewer mentioned, it targets your «trouble zones» (inner thighs, butt, triceps) and is a great complement to yoga and strength training. The cardio sequence in the beginning of class gets your heart rate going, and then we go into more traditional moves at the bar, and then we switch back to cardio. I always shake like crazy and feel sore days later.
I have a tendency to slack a bit when the instructor isn’t looking (don’t we all?) but Lanae is very motivating and will fix your form whenever necessary.
Would love to try the Pilates and TRX classes sometime!

I really like how this studio spent the effort to take their classes to the next level. I have not had any chance to take their pilates class but took barre and TRX classes. Their workouts consist of very well thought out and effective routines especially for women. Their workouts really target troubled spots on most women, you definitely feel the burn on those areas, great for toning arms and legs and lifted butt! Staying and maintaining a healthy life style is always number one goal, BUT, keeping my backside in check is also very important to any women!

I’ve tried all the different classes they offer here and happy to report that the 5-​star feeling is consistent across all 3.
Flex Pilates — not for the uncoordinated (fell flat on my face at one point) but definitely an interesting and effective workout. The machine really helps to isolate specific muscles and the small barre movements combined with balancing further intensifies the stretch and burn.
Flex TRX — i’ve only taken with Jack but he is a great instructor. he gives a lot of correction and tips and acts silly to really motivate you.

I fell in love with flex studio and I look forward to the every single class.
High Quality instruction, great correction, very effective for the body, airy studio, very sweet people, more intimate feels & always welcoming.
I mostly took jenn & Jackie’s flex Pilates or ³⁰⁄₃₀ (barre&pilates).
My body was constantly burning, shaking, sweating, eye popping out sometimes… lol… It’s get so tough! It’s just burns so much!
Especially When I was resting at night I still feel my body was burning.
Jenn and Jackie are such a excellent instructor, paying great detailed attention, correction so that we get to feel correct and quality moves.
Kara, I took her flex pure which is more calm but certainly burns you whole time.
She starts off with relaxation and feel of the body to engage to the core.
I took David on a weekends, he is such a sunshine, cheers us up and it was so much fun!
Each class, each instructor I enjoyed so much and I was learning and I realized how much I didn’t know about traditional side of Pilates. It was so deep, still learning.
Little movement changes a lot, so I appreciate their detailed attention & quality instruction.
My body changed whole a lot better and feels so amazing. Can’t live with without…
Also I see Jenn and Jackie taking a same class as me and I get to see their beautiful movement & Pilates body. It motivated me and push myself in better way.
