I have gone here three times. First two times were fair, but third time was not a charm. Not only was I curious about trying the pepper barrel tenders, which was completely disgusting by the way, but I found a gray hair sticking out from one tender. I completely lost my appetite. They serve very little food compared to most Popeye’s locations I’ve gone to. Tables filled with people hanging around. Although service was quick, I will not be coming back to this location. Sorry, not sorry.

Cleaner than most fast food chicken places I’ve been to. Service is fast and good. Prices are decent and the food, well, it speaks for itself. Yummy! In the few times I’ve visited this location I’ve never had a bad experience. Best chicken and mash potatoes ever!!!

I needed food to soak up some alcohol before I went on the subway.yesterday. I decided on the butterfly shrimp combo with one side which I decided would be Cajun didn’t take long to get my food. I was given a package of tartar sauce and packages of ketchup. I wanted hot sauce so I went back to the counter to ask for hot sauce. I was given two packets. The biscuit was fluffy, buttery and warm. The fries were crispy and flavorful. The shrimp still had the tails and was very good as well.

When doing any sort of comparative research, one must have a baseline measure… and in the quest for best fried chicken in NYC, that baseline is Popeye’s. If you can’t be better than Popeye’s, then FOH. You’d be surprised at how many fried chicken places I think fall into this category. First off… they actually have spicy fried chicken where the spiciness is mixed into the batter, and not just some lame hot sauce you add after. Grow a pair all you fried chicken wannabe restaurants and turn it up a notch! Second, the rotating specials… the most recent ghost pepper wings were awesome! This chain is doing it right and not afraid to experiment with new stuff. And some nice staff at this particular location too… I ordered a combo, but didn’t want a drink, so they gave me an extra biscuit instead. Top that KFC.

So, I’m tried this Popeye’s in search of some not too salty chicken. Surprisingly, this Popeye’s location had some okay chicken. Wasn’t too salty. Might have been a fluke because I ordered the fish also to takeout. Dear God in Heaven!!! I couldn’t finish it. It was like pouring Red Cross salt directly into my mouth! Whatever you do, stay away from the fish!

Yummy! I’ve only been here once but the customer service was great and the chicken was tasty and fresh. I do wish that this location was bigger.

Sometimes, this is all you really want. I have tried many fried chicken in NYC and got tired of contrived versions of it like Momofuku(Old Bay Fried Korean Chicken. huh?), all kinds of places in the Village, LES and Brooklyn, and Blue Ribbon(boring) and though Amy Ruth’s and Charles’ is a good fried chicken, they’re homestyle and that’s good but I was craving something that reminded me of that great crispy fried chicken I used to eat… like Popeyes. So we went to Popeyes! I hadn’t had Popeyes in a while, so gathered a group and went and got the Spicy 18 piece meal with Biscuits, a large tub of Red Beans and Rice, Mashed Potatoes w/gravy, Cajun Fries, Slaw and a gallon of Cane Sweet Iced Tea. Had the meal there, the fried chicken is a wonderfully crispy crust and skin straight up unadulterated deep fried goodness. The seasoning is perfect, and not overpowered by too much salt. I don’t identify any overwhelming flavor, no weird herb taste either like other places, just balanced perfectly and delicious. Also, it’s not overtly spicy but then after a few bites, the cayenne hits you in the back of the mouth. Very nice. The meat is very good, I tried various pieces, the white meat is tender and juicy. the dark meat just as good. What makes this place though is the crust and nobody else makes it like this. Points for sustained uniqueness. Next, the red beans and rice comes in a large styrofoam tub, the beans are on the bottom and the rice on top. There is an earthy Cajun flavor I detect, some cumin, some cayenne, and tastes like beans have been simmering for hours. Delicious. Next, the mashed potatoes. Not bad, a hint of garlic in potatoes I detect, serves it’s purpose. The slaw was good, nice and crisp, not drowned in mayo. Solid. The Cajun fries are absolutely delicious fresh out of the fryer. Nice cajun style flavor and crunch. I could eat these all day. Finally, the biscuits are ok but a bit dense and a little too much butter. In some ways, it eats more like a small round buttery scone. I have eaten at privately owned fried chicken joints down south, up north, out west, and nobody makes fried chicken like Popeyes, it’s as simple as that. It’s unique bite and flavor puts their chicken at the top of the pyramid. This location is very clean, fast and courteous service, the cashier provided extra utensils, paper plates, cups and condiments for our Popeyes feast.

Best restaurant in Atlantic City, NJ The service and food was really good. Also got free refills on soda not sweet tea. The bathroom and clean. The combo was good and was a lot. The biscuit was good. Good for the money and sure wasn’t hard on the food budget.

A Popeye’s in the city that doesn’t suck. Now that’s a surprise! This place is pretty clean, which got my attention right away. I was also taken aback by the fact that the service was fast, friendly and the food was on my plate in a hurry, which is unusual for a «fast food» joint in the city. Seems like this place is operated by a lot of Chinese folks, which may perpetuate the stereotype that they are efficient and get things done. Nonetheless, the food here is what you expect — greasy ass, tasty fried chicken that hits the spot whenever you need something to get rid of that nasty hangover or have that serious chicken craving.

There’s more crispy than chicken in their chicken fingers, there was a bug in my Mac n cheese, and it’s 25 cents for BBQ sauce. Bad service!

Cleaner than the typical fast food place, slightly better service. Went on a Sunday afternoon; spicy fried chicken is really good! Free refills. They forgot our pecan pie though :(

Best ever fried Chicken! It’s very addictive!!! There are couple of stores in the city but most of them do not serve jalapeño peppers. This one DOES! Kind, very friendly stuff, they are fast! We always order same, real fried chicken, spicy for me, mild to my husband. He was hesitate a few years ago when I introduced to him, but he loves it now!

Been a Fried Chicken maven for 50 years, and hands down. Popeye’s is addictive. First started eating at Popeye’s on 42 St. in ’79, when the tagline was ‘Spicy OR mild??’, went to the flagship location on Canal Street in New Orleans, and now come to this location in the village. Never mind ancient history, they now have Louisiana ‘Po’ boy’ sandwiches, numerous shrimp and seafood combination, and sides better than ever B4. The chicken is second to none. Why go to an overpriced West Village spot when you get real substance here each time? You can always take away. Employees here are real considerate and responsive.

Never had a bad meal here. Sure, it’s greasy, but it’s Popeye’s. The best deal here is I think the 3 piece Bonafide Chicken. Sorry management, one day i’ll let u upsell me on a drink or a side, but not today! And of course their Red Beans and Rice is always sublime. Btw, it’s silly reviewing fast food joints, but I know no other way to make my way up to Unilocal Elite Status. Any pointers, I’d appreciate!

What’s a savory meal after a night of binge drinking? 8 pieces of spicy chicken, 4 buttery biscuits, a tub of cajun fries and a gallon of diet coke? Hell no, but this option is great anytime. Everytime I walk past this spot, the smell draws me in and I’m forced to order like the f’n family meals(as opposed to the single meal) because my eyes are way bigger than my stomach. I don’t regret biting into that juicy piece of chicken, or tasting that warm biscuit and I definitely don’t mind throwing a handful of crispy fries down. What I do regret is… having to spend 2 hours in the gym after consuming that flavorful goodness. The price to pay for livin’ the life of a glutton. I will hit again… unless I walk a different route.

I was suppose to go to the gym straight after work last night, but I went to Popeyes instead. I was freakin starving and had no control. Don’t hate, participate. So Popeye’s have these mini sandwiches I’ve never seen or heard before on the extra value menu called, «Delta Mini». They had no picture or description of it either. I was curious what it was. So I asked the Chinese lady working the register, «What is a Delta Mini? She then said with lazy annoyance, «Chicken Sandwich». Duh, retard me, this is Popeyes Chicken, not a fancy waitress explaining the pasta specials of the day at the OG… the Olive Garden. I got(1) Delta Mini,(1) Chicken Biscuit Sandwich, and(1) order of Cajun Fries. Oh hi, This Is Why You’re Fat. The Delta Mini is(I looked it up online on the Popeyes web-site after I got home and scarfed it down) «a mini sandwich that features a crispy all-white meat chicken breast tender marinated in Louisiana seasonings on a mini toasted bun, topped off with Popeyes signature Delta sauce — a special spicy flavor of Louisiana combined with a tasty cream sauce». Yup! Don’t think the Chinese Popeyes lady would’ve broken down the Delta to me like that, the Delta Mini son.

Fa(s)t Food in a mini format makes Popeyes a shoe in amongst the Taco Bells, Burger Kings, McDonalds, Wendy’s, and Starbucks along 14th Street. The place is smaller than the location on 34th and overly crowded during the daytime. This makes for a nice stop for those who crave the buttery, salty biscuits and the fried chicken that tastes a tinge different than the average KFC. I have noticed they tend to run mini-specials here from season to season that is different from the other Popeyes locations around the city. In addition, this location is cleaner than the others, but the seating is more tight as the place is smaller.
