I was at Brad’s on opening day 3 years ago. They were giving away free sandwiches and coffee, and the whole place exuded quality. If I recall correctly, the owner was on hand, eager to meet his future customers and make sure everyone was content. And sure enough, Brad’s was totally awesome… for a while. My how time changes things. These days I work in the NYU area and I still swing by Brad’s pretty often– it’s quick and cheap. But that’s about the best I can say. Most of the time, the staff seem distracted and poorly trained. On my past TWO visits, I’ve ordered a sandwich only to find out(after it’s been toasted) that the shop is out of basic ingredients like lettuce or mushrooms. Considering Brad’s is a sandwich shop, being out of basic ingredients indicates serious management problems. Another sign of Brad’s slow decay is the service. There is no longer a cashier person at the sandwich counter; instead you are referred to the bar where a distracted bartender may or may not ring you up correctly. The thing is– I WANT to like Brad’s and I WANT them to get better. The place is a cute and has tons of potential. But there just seems to be a total lack of anyone caring in there. I guess that means no one will care enough to read my critique! Oh well.

This place is solid for a college crowd or if you are looking for a quick lunch. The sandwiches are ok & cheap. There is also a bar & a coffee shop. The atmosphere here is pretty laid back. The service was ok. I wouldn’t go out of my way to come here but if I’m ever in a hurry & want a sandwich I would come here.

The Wheel of Lunch is treacherous when wielded by some. This place is just funky, even during the summer with no student rush. Went with a ‘toasted’ tuna sub with cherry pepper relish and chips, which wasn’t nearly as bad as expected and far from as lacksadaisical as the guy running the entire kitchen and counter. The presence of Maine mexicane soda was a surprising addition, and I really can’t complain because it cost me nada. Certainly wouldn’t return, though. PS per the wall, the eponymous guy died the day after opening?

Worst most horrible service ever. 35 minutes for a bagel??? And attitude from«cook» and then bagel is wrong??? NO!

Great spot on NYU’s campus to grab a bagel and coffee for breakfast or a sandwich for lunch/dinner. Not only that, this place can get rowdy at nights — especially Thrusdays. Now that I’ve graduated from NYU, I’m nostalgic for Brad’s…Happy Hour is from 5 – 7 but it starts back up again late at night. Such a convenient spot for $ 3 frozen margaritas.

It’s a fun little place in the NYU area. Prices are day and they have a neat deli area where you can get fast food common items like hotdogs and hamburgers and why have you. They have some nice beers on tap: hoegarden, guiness, Stella; but also have a large selection of bottles and cans. They also have some top shelf booze and coffee.

A sandwich shop, bar and coffeehouse all in one, Brad’s is a funky place: kind of dingy and strangely spacious with surprisingly good subs. The subs are toasted, Quizno’s style, and can be topped with a basic assortment of fixings: lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, oil & vinegar, mustard, etc. The meat and bread are OK, but you can get a better-than-average 9 inch sandwich for around $ 6. Throw in chips and a drink and you’re talking about a $ 10 lunch. Compare that to the smattering of bird food mongers known as salad restaurants around the block where you’ll be throwing down over $ 15 for an afternoon of hunger pangs.

I used to come here all the time when I went to NYU. By day, it’s full of students with backpacks eating crappy sandwiches. By night, it’s full of students with backpacks drinking crappy beer. With that said, everyone is really friendly. I don’t remember the bartender’s name(she used to work Thursday nights?), but she used to hook us up with these amazing blue tinted Long Island Iced Teas. I once spent a night sleeping on the N train, and those blue LITs were definitely to blame. They also used to do a $ 5 beer and whiskey shot special. God, the memories! Needless to say, this was a fun place to get plastered at. I don’t plan on ever going back.

Yes, it may feel varsit-ose but Brad has good deals. The subs are good and inexpensive. Although they may not make a full meal, they’re ok for lunch. There’s enough space and sitting, as well as a BAR. And the bar is not expensive. Major NYU(particularly Tisch school) hangout spot. And if you’re not satisfied, there’s several other food and drink options in by these same cross streets.

Good local joint, with the makings of one of those regular hangout spots which the gang goes to in any sitcom. The staff is friendly here and there is a good amount of seating. They have a good selection of burgers and sandwiches, as well as a bar on the side if you feel like having a beer. The burgers here were average if not slightly above, standard burger off the grill with any of your favorite toppings. The Sandwiches are also good here, with a lot of variety. Overall good spot for a quick bite or to just pass the time

Great for the neighborhood. Ideal spot for the college community to stop in and grab a quick bite to eat and cheap drinks. I really enjoyed the happy hour special at the bar. My burger was good except the meat was overcooked and it was too small. I really wanted to try the sandwiches but they said they weren’t making them anymore(it was only 7pm).

Nice place to read & study during the day. Great fries and burger. Avoid going in there if it’s too crowded because there will be tons of very loud Tisch kids. The staff is not very friendly.

It’s cheap, chill, and the food is edible but nothing special. I’m not a fan of the sandwich bread because it’s insubstantial and not that filling. It’s a place of convenience. If you’re looking for a sunny spot to study though, this is a good place because of the corner location and large windows. They also have free wifi which is pretty reliable.

No problems with this café, though apparently it was named with as much enthusiasm as a flat tire*. Brad’s is a good, nondescript and non-distracting go-to in the NYU area for getting some reading or studying done. Free wifi, lots of tables so you don’t need to feel guilty about taking up space with your laptop. The café tables and their setup are not so cozy, and the space is a bit cavernous, but maybe we don’t need an additional reason to fall asleep while reading. I do agree that Brad’s is… confusing. It seems to be a café, but they also have a bar. There’s a sandwich station in the back that churns out non-impressive looking toasted subs(order and pay there). You also pay at the counter for coffee(self-serve; you get the cup after paying) and tea(not self-serve). But I also saw them delivering burgers and fries to tables. Does that count as table service? What the heck is going on?! *Ben Stein: «Braaad’s.»

Salad for like 8 dollars. What an expensive salad. It was good, there was a lotttt, and the greens weren’t wilted. I wish there was a half size though. I don’t know how this place is as a bar, but I cant imagine it as one either lol. The food is a lot better described on the menu than it actually is. What I really dislike about this place is the service. The guy tried to joke around but it was just so… awkward. Not my favorite place in the neighborhood.

A slightly better experience, although still slow — for me, the Italian sandwich was tasty, but for $ 8.55 for the meal(chips + drink), I could go get the Subway sandwich for the same price, and 3x the size(the Italian here is almost 6″) with more toppings and heartier. My friend ordered soup — took 10 minutes to warm it on the grill(took the entire pot over there) — and it was still cold. Boo.

Brad’s: Epitomizing the definition of mediocre while charging above average prices. The sandwich was forgettable and quite small for the $ 6.00 or so I paid for it, with the onion rings following suit. Service was slightly more competent than McDonald’s, and the best deal — hamburgers — are only served after 4pm. Personally I would rather spend the same money or less and go to Josie Woods across the street and get onion rings that will satisfy you far more than an entire dining experience at Brad’s. The overall temperature in the establishment was quite warm = the extra star.

What a great new addition to the neighborhood! It definitely has a college town vibe, with its wooden, basic décor; catchy slogans on chalk boards(«make salad, not war!»); and one-notch-above selections on tap(e.g., Hoegarden and Guiness) — plus lots of bottles. This place is definitely going to have a buzz about it — and I’m hoping not too-too long lunch lines! Free coffee ’til 10am this opening day(today!)!
