A nicely situated coffee shop on the corner. I got a 2 egg sandwich on a bagel which was pretty good as they toasted the sandwich on a panini press which at $ 2 was decent value. I also got a vanilla frappé frozen drink which left a lot to be desired. The drink didn’t taste like vanilla at all(I asked again t make sure it was actually vanilla, and they said yes). It just tasted like… nothing basically, which was pretty disappointing after paying almost $ 5 for it. I would go back for breakfast, but will definitely avoid any frozen drinks from now on.

I was on my way to Abraco for a quick caffeine & dash fix, when I had the sudden urge to sit in a café, treat my starved self to some crepes, sip on a latte, & people watch –that I did, and it was the perfect way to begin a Sunday afternoon after a long weekend of going out ;) Café Blu was the destination of choice since I didn’t want to wait during prime brunch hour. A quickie on the this casual east village café: + ample tables; comfy seating by the window makes for good conversation and/or ppl watching. + free wi-fi + tried the strawberry & nutella crepes — delish(then again when is this not? ;)) — crispy, perfectly flaky edges. + really good café latte — a little too foamy, but nevertheless good. + friendly friendly staff — «Café Mocha» — is it or isn’t it?(or am I going to have to write a duplicate review!!!) * bottom line: comfy, cheap, &3.5 stars just for the crepes!

Is this even Café Blu? It says so on the awning, but everything inside would make one think it’s called Café Mocha, i.e. their business cards, menu, etc. This is a nice little café that has almost everything. It’s a good place to sit and eat for a half our or so in the mornings. Once I ordered a smoothie there. I ordered a smoothie they had on their menu. The guy behind the counter kept asking if I wanted milk, this, or that, in it. I said«NODAIRY please» and told him I wanted it just how their original version is spelled out on the menu. It was a goji smoothie, FYI. It definitely had milk in it. I had to throw it away a few blocks down, sadly. I got it a second time, though, having faith, and it was good. They also have tofu cream cheese, for your bagels, if you’re into that. One time I snuck one of my boyfriends homefries off his plate, and noticed a tiny piece of bacon in with them. So you know, if you’re a picky vegetarian like me, you wont order anything that touches a grill. Their panini press might be safer. They have a nice selection of teas, and the hot cider is lovely in winter too.

I’ve been to this place twice. The first time I bought a smoothie that didn’t taste or look like anything resembling a smoothie, it didn’t even taste good. Tonight I bought a tomato mozzarella panini and I couldn’t finish it, it tasted gross. I also got a coffee frappé that was way too watery and tasted funny. Do not go here, stay away!!!
