I really felt that I had to write a positive review for this store because I don’t know what my Boston Terrier and I would have done without her down puffer coat from Canine Styles. The winter of 2014 – 2015 was brutal for short haired dogs and it was everything I could do to convince her to go potty outside. Her coat is what got us through it and it’s still like new even though I’ve put it in the washing machine multiple times until now.
Nobody makes super sturdy dog clothing for the Northeast winters like Canine Styles. I agree that the items here are extremely high priced but you get what you pay for. I’ve searched far and wide for appropriate winter clothing for my BT and none of the chain stores or individual pet stores coke close. The fabric and materials they use are human grade, as are the stitching and design. My BT who has very sensitive skin would get allergies from any of the lesser quality fleeces and sweaters from anywhere else.
The lady who helped me in the store was extremely helpful, knew what she was talking about, not pushy, and told me that I could exchange the size of unused in case it didn’t fit. She wasn’t an angel but she was a no-​nonsense business type and she knew dog dimensions very well which helped me because my BT wasn’t with me at the time. Her recommendation was spot on. She’s also the one who told me because it’s real down I can wash it in the washing machine and lightly tumble dry for the jacket to look fluffy like new. I didn’t believe her at first, but now I know it’s true.
As soon as I can afford a cashmere sweater I will be getting one to complement the puffer coat for that extra layer of protection
Are they pricey? Yes. However, do you want your dog to itch from fabric or look frumpy or freeze because it’s made from less than ideal materials? Not me.
I’m glad we have someone like Canine Styles. It s not for everyone. But me and my BT thank them for being around

Bought a La Cinopelca harness for $ 200 (you can find them online for less than half the price), and I was assured that the gold hardware wouldn’t rub off. Sure enough, a few weeks in, the hardware was silver. To make matters worse, the harness leather actually snapped in half. I went back to the store to be told I need to contact La Cinopelca by googling them. There is no contact for the company online, so I emailed Canine Styles for a resolution twice so far (about 2 weeks have elapsed) and still have no response. Avoid this place if you want quality products and decent customer service.

I have been taking my Maltese here for almost ten years for grooming. The staff is excellent trustworthy and very friendly. A decent assortment of products although a bit expensive. Sorry it’s so much cheaper to buy wellness food from Amazon and you don’t have to carry it. But again as for the quality of service I wouldn’t and don’t go anywhere else. It’s also nice that they know both you and your dogs name just by sight. They are doing something right because she loves going to the groomers.

I’m not allowed to give a no-​star rating? I’d like to, but apparently Unilocal doesn’t permit that. You would think a swanky, overpriced store like this could afford to hire qualified, professional staff with customer service training. Let me say right upfront that I am not a complainer, or a ranter, by nature! I’ve experienced this level of rudeness only at this store, and this is the second time. (Well, there was that cab driver in the 1980s who didn’t want to take me to Brooklyn.) I called this morning to ask what shipping method the company would use if I were to order something on their Web site. The woman on the other end started speaking over me, then shouting in a hostile way, the number of the «Web site manager.» When I finally insisted that she hear me out so I could actually ask my specific question (could it be sent one-​day, two-​day air?), she actually did seem to have the answer I was looking for. I let her know that this was the second time I’d had a negative encounter with the store, and she hung up. I’m overseas now, worried about my dog being warmly dressed enough in the icy weather back home. This interaction does not exactly leave me with a warm and fuzzy feeling. By the way, I should add that someone at the company was nice enough to acknowledge a previous complaint I had last year about the staff at this same store failing to help me with sizing; the company offered to let me bring back a too-​large coat I had bought (which I didn’t end up doing). I had a good experience at the West Side store at Broadway and 70^th but this branch is full of disgruntled people, as many of the other reviews bear out.

Amazing place. You couldn’t find sweeter to people to help you in taking care of your dog. Plus, they sell hundreds of quality foods and pet products that although pricey, are excellent!

Let’s start with the caveat: This review pertains only to their products, not their grooming services, which I have never used.
We first went to Canine Styles looking for a coat of some kind for our 2 year old Boston Terrier. We rescued her in January 2012; it was clear she had come to NYC from a warmer climate and needed some help with the elements. Over the past two years, we have had the opportunity to visit three different locations. Each and every time we have received courteous, friendly and helpful service, not to mention good advice. It is important to note that when it comes to clothing, CS carries only their own brand. Their clothes are extremely — and I mean extremely — well made. This is in no way, shape or form the same junk you get at Petco and the like. We purchased one of their polar fleeces, a corduroy jacket and a down puffer coat (we layer them depending on the weather); they have all taken quite a beating over the past couple of years, but after a careful washing they are good as new.
I wouldn’t have bothered to write a Unilocal review were it not for a couple of additional points:
(1) Their clothes look great. As in amazing. As in, practically every time we go for a walk, people are moved to complement her outfit. I get more compliments on average during a single walk with the CS garb than I ever got from the coat we bought on the day we adopted her (which, frankly, I thought looked pretty good). If you don’t care how your dog looks, then CS ain’t for you; if you do, there’s really nowhere else to go.
(2) No one else has the full-​body track-​suit that CS has. No one. I checked. It covers her from neck to paws, including her near-​hairless underbelly. When it’s windy, this thing is the difference between her shivering like mad and her enjoying the walk.
(3) Let’s get this out in the open: Their clothes are not cheap. The little puffer thing we got her cost $ 150. I know, I know — it’s insane. But here’s the thing: it looks amazing, is a super-​quality product, will last for years, and, most importantly, it keeps her warm enough to be outside when it’s below freezing. As some others have pointed out, their treats are indeed overpriced (though if you know your prices, some items are more reasonable). But who buys their treats here? CS is for clothes not food!
(4) Also? Because you’re buying their proprietary line, if anything goes wrong — if it turns out months down the line that the thing wasn’t made right, they stand behind their products and will make things right. We had bought a harness (also a proprietary style), and the buckle cracked after a year. They replaced it for free. Every time I shell out $$$ for their coats, I receive similar assurances that they stand behind their products. So yes, they’re expensive, but you’re buying a quality product from people who are prepared to stand behind it. That, to me, is absolutely worth a premium.
(5) Relatedly… I’ve read the negative reviews and have to laugh. These stores are by and large located in the toniest neighborhoods of Manhattan. I’ve been in the store when people come in to complain about all kinds of baloney. Look, I obviously can’t speak to the specifics of some of the complaints here, but I can say that I’ve seen enough self-​entitled behavior to know that some customers cannot be made happy. These stores have been in business for years for a reason: they know how to retain customers with quality products and real customer service.
CS isn’t for everyone, but if you want the best, and are willing to pay for it, then there’s no better place in Manhattan for canine coture :)

Beware of their prices. I bought a Stella and Chewy treat that they charge me 25.00 for and its only around 7.00 everywhere else. the same for another treat at 12.50 which was 3.00 elsewhere. look around the store and then run away and buy elsewhere.

The customer service is literally NON-​EXISTENT! I stopped in to purchase a few outfits for my baby but left with nothing. I contemplated using their grooming services. As a new customer this experience left me flabbergasted. The older woman and the younger blonde were so busy gossiping that they never even acknowledged me. HOW ARE THEY STILL IN BUSINESS?

Run, do not walk to this store ! I had the best customer service here ! Literally the best! I can’t remember the time someone was so kind and genuinely helpful!
I came in here first to buy a harness for my cat, I have been training my purebred cat to walk and wanted a good harness. Michael was amazing ! He found me the only harness my picky cat put up with (I have bought her multiple harnesses before) and I think actually enjoyed wearing. He was kind and compassionate and super helpful ! He even guessed her size correctly !
Next, I came here to buy the sweater. Michael remembered me (!) and once again perfectly guessed her size. My cat is bold, gets very cold and very much enjoys her sweater ! The sweaters are fine merino wool, they even have cashmere ! So your little ones can be warm and cozy !
Few days later my cat chewed threw the buckle of the harness and he gave me a new one for free. Let me repeat this: HE REPLACED THE WHOLE THING FOR FREE NO QUESTIONS ASKED !
Overall, 5 star customer service, store is conveniently located by Lex and 63^rd F train station and Michael is a go to person for all your pet needs !

I came into this store hoping to find a long sleeve t-​shirt for my Havanese puppy who has been licking himself to the point of baldness. The man in the front of the store was extremely rude, unhelpful, and judgmental. After informing him what I was looking for, he looked up at me seemingly annoyed and in a mockery tone said, «it is summer, we only carry sleeveless shirts.» He proceeded to point at the stack of clothing on the shelves beside me. At this point, I responded, «yes, I know it is summer and I can see what’s on the shelves.»
I will NEVER come back to this store again. The customer service is horrendous and the personnel at this store does not seem to give a care in the world about dogs. To top it off, the toys they sell are over priced and can easily be purchased through Amazon for a fraction of the cost.

As new puppy parents, we needed help on food, training, leashes, collars, shampoo — the whole package. We were clueless and the wonderful ladies in the store took the time to help us find what we needed and give advice on what to do. It took them an hour and we ended up spending under a $ 100 in total, primarily on a coat since it was freezing outside. Great experience — 5 stars.
Yes, the other reviews are true in that this store is expensive and high end but it’s the Upper East Side… If you’re looking for a deal, the Upper East Side of New York City is not the place to find it…

When a woman on the street told me she lived on Madison in a huge apartment and found this store «simply offensive,» I had all the confirmation I needed that this store is beyond pretentious and overpriced.
I wanted to buy a doggie bed for a 17 pound designer breed dog of a friend on the Cape
I thought he would like black watch so I asked for the price of the medium-​sized bed: 140 and change!
Even in an upscale store in Santa Barbara (not Montecito but a nice area of SB on State street), a very similar bed in size and fabric was 69.
This place is just obnoxious but the owner is nice enough and he has a Russian Blue cat I fell in love with last year, in part because I get plenty of doggie love in the city 3 months a year but no kitty love.
But really, it’s just so expensive you wonder why people on the UES put up with it when I am sure there are high end stores in other areas of Manhattan selling the same things for half the price.

I recently bought the messenger style bag for my 13 year old chihuahua. This bag was meant to replace the Canine Styles messenger bag I bought for her when I first got her. I loved that bag completely. However, I was extremely disappointed with the quality of the new bag. All the materials were cheap and I paid over double what I paid years ago. The bag is completely unusable. I am still using the original bag. I sent Canine Styles a friendly message letting them know how disappointed I was with the quality of their bags today. The owner replied back to me that he agreed and the reason was due to a new manufacturer he was working with. He promised to replace the bag for me when he got a new production and to check in with him later in the year. I was very impressed with his customer service. But, I recently did check in with him to see if he would honor his promise and was brushed off with an email possibly offering a discount on another bag which was a slap in the face. I will never pay another dime for any of their bags. I cannot even give away the one I have that cost me so much.

The place where spoiled Upper East Side pooches go… You can even buy doggie-​warming costumes here for the cold weather. All of the costumes would fit a cat since apparently, the Upper East side is solely populated with tiny toy dogs that can fit in their owners purses. I almost bought a lion costume for my cat… heehehehee

Canine Styles is my go-​to store for high end dog supplies. I’ve been a customer for the past 5 years. Out of curiosity, I pulled up their review on Unilocal and was surprised to see it so poorly rated.
Over the years, I have bought the following items, which I think are nice, of high quality, and unique:
— Dog carrier bag. It looks like a normal bag. People often don’t notice when my dog is in it.
— Leather leashes and collars. They look smart and they last for years.
— Corduroy dog beds. They have a modern look and they hold up to abuse. My dogs sleep on them constantly.
— Great dog treats.
They’ve always treated me well in the store. I’ve never encountered an attitude. Today, for example, my dog grabbed a raw hide chew as I was paying. I put it on the counter and said I’d buy it too, and the woman just said I could take it for free.

If I could give 0 stars, I would.
I used to like their grooming service because, though it’s very pricey, it’s close to home and they seemed to do a decent job. That all changed today… I dropped off my 7lb Havanese girl for grooming service. The groomer wasn’t in yet when my appointment time was 10am. So I had to leave my instructions with the woman and the man who runs the store. I left specific instructions: I want to let the hair grow out a little longer from her puppy cut so lightly trim her hair, but thin it out so it’s light and fluffy. I want the feet to have very short hair and hair on her ears shorter. Her nose/​mouth, I want the faded in pointed nose — at this the woman said, «like the poodle». I said, «right, pointy like poodle but faded in look.»
I went to pick her up when they called to let me know that she was finished. I didn’t even recognize my dog! She looked like a poodle! No hair on her nose/​mouth area at all! her hair was not kept long, on the head like I asked, there was no thinning of hair to give fluff. Her feet hair was not shorter and her nails weren’t even filed!!! And at my horror, woman at the store’s response was «don’t worry, hair will grow back before you know it» — not even sorry. My dog that used to turn heads where ever we went is now so ugly looking with a poodle face and Maltese body. To make matters worse, my pup was so shaken and upset from today’s service that she was clawing onto me so tightly that I got scratches all over.
NEVER GETTING GROOMING SERVICE AGAIN!!!
As for clothes, bags, accessories at the store — I’ve bought them and tried them before. They are way over priced for the quality you’re getting. Especially clothes. Also the harness may look cute but is not comfortable for the dog nor you when going on walks. And they’ll try to sell you anything possible even if clothes don’t fit right on the dog.

My review is solely based on their selection of dog sweaters, coats and accessories.
We stop in here every year when we are in NYC to pick up a new sweater for our dachshund. They have a great selection of both sweaters and coats. They are very helpful in assisting you in choosing what size your pet might need, and what may work best for you based on breed, and day to day lifestyle. The staff has always been very friendly. I would feel confident ordering something on line from them once we had returned home. I have purchased three 100% wool sweaters for my dog, and they have held up very well– which speaks to their quality, as Tucker is hard on his sweaters.

I don’t use this establishment for grooming because I bathe my dog myself and her nails get trimmed at the vet. I’ve been in here a couple of times and the staff friendliness level is so-​so. They charge a little bit more than petco for their wellness dry food but not too ridiculous. I went in here today to get Nalaa a weather-​proof coat that would fit her since Petco doesn’t really accommodate the larger breeds clothes-​wise. I didn’t even have my dog with me I just told them her weight breed and that she was «long» and the woman at the front desk recommended a size for me and then showed me three different styles of coats. One of the groomers was also sitting out in front and he offered his opinion and asked about my dog with what seemed like genuine interest which was nice.
The woman even recommended a color that would go well with Nalaa’s coat color and I have to admit I was just going to get a pink coat and call it a day. I brought it home, put it on her and it fit perfectly. It also has clasps instead of velcro so it should last for quite awhile and the way the coat was made suggests that it should be able to grow with Nalaa for several more pounds.
They also said if the coat didn’t fit to just bring it back and they would change it no problem which was reassuring.
Although I did have a good experience with their clothing, I would never bring my dog here for any extended period of time because it looks too small to house larger dogs and one time I came in and saw this woman just screaming at another employee with the backdoor open (very unprofesh).
Conclusion: go for the clothes but not for grooming or boarding
