Great service! Broken ankle and scooters brakes busted in nyc when in from out of town. No wait and $ 3 to fix and get us out of a jam!!!

Big thanks to the owner for replacing my defective U-​Lock! Maybe 4 weeks after buying it, one of the pins in the lock got «stuck», and the key wouldn’t turn it. Owner replaced it totally free, even if I had no receipts/​original packaging etc. Great service, I’ll be going again.

Brought my bike in for a basic tune up late on a Monday and had it back before close on Wednesday. Replaced the inner tubes & plopped on new tires. Adjusted my gears and brakes, lubed my chain, etc. All the normal tune up things. Prices were very reasonable for a NYC bike shop. Zero complaints here. I’ll definitely be back.

Worst customer service On the Planet! I’m here in the pouring rain and I stepped in because I needed to adjust my rack and I brought the wrong tools. The repair man quoted me and I was just asking to use one tool for 20 seconds. He ran his mouth with insults even after I was out the door. Have some respect for a woman first of all. Don’t go here!

This place offers reasonable rental rates for bikes, but the service is terrible. My friend and I rented two bikes from here last weekend for a few hours. The guy at the store offered us two terrible bikes initially — we had to go back and exchange then 20 minutes after we rented them because they were so uncomfortable to ride. While we were able to exchange the bikes, he did not offer us any discount or lower the rate.
Midway through our trip, both of our bikes started experiencing serious issues. Only one or two of the gears on my friend’s bike worked and the brakes on my bike stopped functioning after maybe 1 hour of riding.
It’s really unfortunate that this bike shop, which is located conveniently next to a great biking trail uptown, offers such dismal service and bikes. I really hope the people who run this store get their act together soon before their bikes cause someone to get injured.

After installation and two consequent attempts to adjust one of which additionally paid, they properly cannot adjust my new Shimano Tourney Shift Lever SL-​RS45. Last try the mechanic wanted to sell me a another model for $ 50.00, while I saw the same model online for $ 15.00 I am really disgruntled and will continue to post negative posts to vent my frustration with this shop. I do not recommend this shop to anyone.

This place is small and doesn’t have a huge selection, but when I went to get all my bicycling accessories they outfitted me really well. The main guy took the time to install everything for me and was helpful with tips about what to buy and how to lock my bike so that it doesn’t get stolen. They also offered for me to come buy and pump up my tires if I need to! They didn’t try to upsell and get me to buy things I didn’t need. Bonus: the other person who helped me, José, was very cute!

Got my bike tuned here, and they did a good job. However, 1) when I dropped the bike, they didn’t tell me how long it was going to take, and then when it was done, they never called. So, you need to be proactive about checking in. 2) The price list posted on the pillar next to the counter said the tune up was $ 45. They charged me $ 50, and when I pointed to the price list, they said that the posted price list was the «winter price list» (it does not say this anywhere on the price list). Shady.

Today was my first day going to Champion Bicycles to rent a bike. Marcos and Teddy were so sweet. And bike rentals are half the cost as bike rental places towards the south side of Central Park. It was a beautiful day to ride through Central Park, and even though I returned with the bike after an hour and fifteen minutes, they only charged me for an hour. I will definitely be back!

A month ago, front wheel of my bike was stolen and therefore I needed a new wheel. I was charged for a new frame, new tire, new inner tubing and labor for the total of $ 85. When the bike was brought out with the new wheel, I noticed that the «new» tire looked used. It had tiny pebbles embedded in grooves, worn down treads and also reddish dirt covering the edges of the supposedly new tire. Also, the tire was the same tread design and mark as my original tire, which makes me believe that this shop might have purchased my stolen wheel. When I mentioned this to the owner/​repair mechanic, he told me that the tire was new and that I was imagining this. He also said that the pebbles were sawdust and because the shop was undergoing renovation, the reddish dirt was dust from construction. It does not take a degree in rocket science to determine if a tire is new or used. Upon my insistence, he gave me a discount on the tire. I rode the bike home (30 minute ride through Central Park and well paved roads) and the bike had sat unused till today. When I brought the bike out, the front wheel was completely flat. I took it to a nearby bike shop and the mechanic confirmed that indeed the tire was used and inner tubing was also used. The inner tubing had punctures, slowly leaking air out over the period of a month. When I called Champion Bicycles to tell them that they had sold me a used tire and inner tubing, they became belligerent.
I might have caught them on a really off day but they should not be replacing and selling items as new when they are cutting corners by using used parts. I will never deal with them again and I hope those who do, take a close look at the parts they replace.

Marcos (the owner) and Teddy (the mechanic) are the best. Completely trustworthy (which, in a mechanic, is hard to come by in my experience). Their prices have always been eminently reasonable and their advice sound. They’re both as accommodating as can be (they even let me leave my bike for a couple of hours in a downpour). I love knowing that I can take my bike in and won’t be ripped off.

~$ 60 overall bike tune-​up, asked them to take a look at my gears. wasn’t completely satisfied, but that is probably a reflection on the decrepit state of my bike.
CALL AHEAD to make sure your bike is actually ready. My bike took an additional 2 days to tune, trip wasted.

I’ve purchased parts here a few times over the past five years. Their service is good, technicians are friendly, and selection has always served me well (lights, tired, even an obscure dérailleur mount!)
Parts cost about 20% more than online shops, but they have helped me install parts, given me extra tape/​screws/​wrenches to help me install, and you can physically inspect all the parts before you buy. That’s worth a few extra $ to me!

I had Marcos pimp my ride, and just picked up the finished product yesterday. I wanted to customize my old Schwinn by getting bullhorn handlebars and converting it to single-​speed. I knew Marcos would do a great job and charge a very fair price. My bike looks and rides great.
Seriously, go here. Not only do they deserve your business, you will walk away a happy person.

I needed a master link today. I ook apart my chain to clean and decided i wanted to install one to make it easier the next time. This is my commuter so I definitely wanted it up and running for work tomorrow. I went to 3 bike shops today: bike shop 1 flat out told me they don’t carry my part, no big deal. Bike shop 2 told me to just buy a new chain, I guess they didn’t know my chain is only 3 months old.
I was pretty hot and tired from walking around looking for my master link and called Marco, he said «Oh that is a common part, of course we have it in stock» These guys are worth supporting because you never know when you will need something immediately. It is nice to go into a shop that focuses on repairs and working on bikes, rather than just selling you crap you don’t need.
Lesson learned… go to the shop that will appreciate your business.

I recently moved back to the Upper West Side after 8 years in the East Village. Best part about this? The fact that I’m once again close to Champion Bicycle shop! If I could choose anywhere to bring my bike in the city– this is it. They’re small, you can develop a rapport with the mechanics and they never screw you or do a sub-​par job. Dependable, friendly, have been in the neighborhood forever.
It’s a small local shop and not a big box/​chain or bike boutique, if that turns you off don’t go here.

My girlfriend is an avid biker and recently moved to NYC. One of her first priorities was to find a good bike shop nearby, and it didn’t take her long to find her Champion (apologies for the pun). They got her all set up and on the road in style, without breaking the bank. I came to visit her recently and decided to rent a bike from Champion. The rate was very reasonable to begin with, and the bike was very nice. 30 minutes into our ride I got a flat. Champion let me bring the bike back later than scheduled, and deducted the price of fixing the flat from the rental. Marcos was gracious and generous at every step. I highly recommend Champion Bicycles!

Marcos and Teddy are always helpful. No hard sell. Reasonable prices. They do many repairs while you wait. My go-​to bike store on the Upper West Side.

Great vibe here. Always willing to help me out when needed.
I popped in to get my seat post cut an inch and Marcos did it without a charge.
Tune ups are very cheap as well.
Highly recommended.
