Not a fan. Cupcakes were disappointing all around. We got a peanut butter /chocolate and a vanilla with chocolate frosting. Neither was good. Trust me, I know cupcakes. The cake was dry and the frosting was bland. There are at least a half-dozen better cupcake places in NYC alone. Don’t recommend making a stop at Cupcake Stop.

2.25?(I need to standardize my cupcake rating system.) I’m a tough grader when it comes to cupcakes. I’m also a sucker for cupcakes. While passing Limelight, all it took was for my friend to say«hey there is a Cupcake Stop in there that makes good cupcakes» for me to veer off course and in to buy one. There was a decent selection left for the end of the day but I went with the Hostess style cupcake, partially because the cake part of the others was visible and it looked a bit dry. I was hoping the ganache topping on the Hostess one would save the cake from drying out– but that was not the case. The chocolate cake was on the dry/stale side(and I got the feeling it prob tasted the same first thing in the morning too). The ganache was ok but not great; I’ve definitely had better. The vanilla filling was good but minimal. For $ 3 a pop for a normal sized cupcake, it just wasn’t worth the money. The girl at the counter was very friendly though. I didn’t try one with normal frosting so its not a direct comparison but right now this stands slightly above Magnolia, slightly below Crumbs, and way below Sugar Sweet Sunshine, and not even worth comparing to homemade.

I’ve been seen about this cake shop on TV and wanted to try so bad. I try red velvet(off course!). I visit there on Sat. night so I’m not sure be course of that, the red velvet cake was a bit dry out side of the sponge. but inside was so moist and frosting was just right! the size of the cake itself are bit small than I expected so if you want to have a big bite, you should have 2 cups!!!

For some inexplicable reason Michael Simon(of Iron-Chef fame) chose the Cupcake Stop as a major competitor in NYC’s red velvet cupcake feud in Food Network’s new rip-off show, Food Feuds. Cupcake Stop started(and continues to run) a cupcake truck but now runs a small counter inside the brand new boutique marketplace, Limelight. Cupcakes are a tad on the high side at $ 3 but it’s worth the price in my opinion. The portion is good, it’s not huge but it’s not ulta small either, it’s just the right size for a snack. Obviously I had to order the red velvet but they had some other great flavors available like the Elvis(peanut butter and banana cupcake). Sadly when I checked online their Elvis was topped with crumbled crispy bacon but it wasn’t at the shop. I’ll pull a Michael Simon and judge the cupcake on two categories, the cake and the frosting. The frosting I found to be too sweet. It did have a little tang to it to suggest it had a cream cheese base to it but the sweetness overpowered it and became almost a regular frosting. The cake on the other hand really shined, it was incredibly dense and moist with a nearly perfect balance of flavor. I give the cake an A+ and the frosting a C+. If cupcakes aren’t your thing they also have a few other goodies that looked great like a couple types of muffins. I’ll definitely stop by to try one of their other desserts at some point, especially if I spot the return of bacon on the Elvis.

omg why such bad reviews?! I loved my oreo cupcake. And I never carry cash so they took my card and charged me $ 3 — no problems. The girls behind the counter are so sweet!

I was here for a business meeting with the CEO that didn’t happen. The cashier here was very polite and the missed meeting was not the problem. I got a sample of cupcakes to take home to make up for this missed meeting; they were filling & pretty good. However, I refuse to put more money into the CEO’s pocket due to his refusal to follow up after this no-show meeting. It’s a shame since the cupcakes were good and the cashier was everything I expect to see in a good sales associate.

Here the service & the cupcakes trump those of the truck. While I support sweets on wheels wholeheartedly and oppose most of the new Limelight(if you could call it that), I preferred my experience here. Stopping in during the incessantly busy first week the Marketplace opened, everyone was good-spirited and friendly. I was guaranteed my money back if I didn’t enjoy the French Toast, but… well…I did. A sizable cupcake with the right amount of toasty essence, I scarfed mine down pretty quickly before hitting up the next sugary station.

what is with the cupcakes??? there is only a few spots in the city that are exceptional and I mean 3 out of the million or so throughout the city and I wont say just cuz. now the review… I had a red velvet… no taste what so ever… wait .red food coloring and sugar… yup that’s it! the second was the key lime /coconut… dry as hell…:(.cupcakes should be moist. which makes me suspect that the ones I had were sitting out for a day or two maybe. i dunno.

Cupcakes galore! I love to indulge in my weakness. No sweets for me til my birthday though. I managed to sneak a couple of red velvets before my diet began! Red Velvet and Key Lime are my favorites. As much as I appreciate a store-front location, I still enjoy following the truck through Twitter and figuring out where-to next!

Baked By Melissa you have some competition but nothing that would stop me from going to both of you! Cupcake Stop is light years away from Baked By Melissa in cupcake style and that’s a good thing. Where Baked By Melissa bites are like delicious flavored candy the Cupcake Shop is the real deal of cupcakes — rich creamy frosting piled high on top of the moistest cake you’ve ever had. Excellent service with a smile. Get the Peanut Butter Chocolate Swirl and sit down and watch the shoppers go by. Enjoy!

We popped in today because I really wanted to try their chocolate banana nut cupcake. It was good. Just tasted like banana bread with some chocolate frosting. I guess I was expecting the chocolate to be baked in? I would try another flavor though to see what else they can offer. They were around $ 3 so normal priced for Manhattan.

I will add the disclaimer that I sampled the cakebatter cupcake during Limelight Marketplace’s grand opening weekend(May 9, 2010). I had never heard of, nor sampled, Cupcake Stop’s desserts– it is apparently one dessert truck with which I was not familiar. I overlooked the fact that the cupcakes in the display case were clearly not baked on site and looked machine made– i.e., mass produced. To give Cupcake Stop a fair shake on my virginal venture, I skipped the red velvet cupcakes(as that is the area of cupcakery in which I consider myself a true connoisseur – see Sugar’s version @ Allen St. and Houston as the gold standard) and tried the«cookie batter» cupcake flavor. The texture of the cupcake itself was dry. Too dry. Whatever detectable flavor there was tasted merely of whatever«white» cupcake can taste. There was not even essence of cookie batter. The icing was simply vanilla and looked and tasted day-old. There was a chunk of something resembling a crumble of cooked cookie on top, also tasteless. Post-bite, I returned to the counter with half-eaten cupcake in tow to ask the attendants if my experience was typical. The nice woman behind the counter said the cupcake should not be dry and promptly got another out of the case. We both tried a bite. She also took a pinch off the one I had originally bought. She agreed they were too dry and disapprovingly shook her head. She offered me another cupcake or a refund of my $ 3. I took the $ 3. Maybe this is uncharacteristic of Cupcake Stop’s «goodies.» Maybe it was due to too much volume and opening weekend madness. But, whatever the reason, there are too many other good desserts in the city for me to try these again.
