YO — This place is CLOSED!!! No indication that it was for renovations, looks like it’s gone. Unfortunately there goes one more old school Canto joint :(

Tasty cantonese food. The food is not overly salted like many cantonese restaurants around the area. The owners and staff are extremely friendly and are always happy to see you. Parking is always a challenge, but if you park after 5pm on the«quick Park lot» on Bowery by the restaurant, it’s only $ 20.00 dollars.

Danny Ng’s Place is one of the last remaining, authentic Cantonese style restaurants in Chinatown. Seriously. It’s sad to see so many places are closing or changing management but this one is still standing strong(for now) in the midst of the gentrification of the neighborhood. It is located underneath in what used to be the Silver Palace restaurant(after years of union demonstrations, it is finally put to rest, good riddance). It’s a bit hard to find if you don’t know the area because there are no signs outside. Since Silver Palace is now closed and no new tenant has taken over, the place does look a little decrepit. But what matters most is their food! Have you ever had sticky rice(law mai) stuffed in a whole deep fried chicken? I don’t know any other restaurant besides Danny Ng that knows this recipe. But you have to pre-order it so this type of dish is best for special occasions. Another special dish you should preorder is the baby back ribs cooked in a Japanese pumpkin. The ribs are very tender and I personally like Japanese pumpkin because it’s sweet. Portion size is huge so be careful how much you plan to order. My other favorite dish is their mayo shrimp. Unlike other mayo shrimp you get at other restaurants, this one comes with fruits and walnuts, which is very refreshing. Overall, food is excellent and service is ok. But there’s no other place that still maintains the essence of Cantonese style cooking. Five stars, indeed!

YES, THEY’REHIDDENINSIDE. Such terrible feng shui – I hope they don’t go out of business! I could barely find the place anymore and thought they had closed down. That’s because it’s hidden inside Golden Bridge Dim Sum. No clear signs out front and the uninviting entrance discourage anyone from going in since Golden Bridge has been closed and gutted out. The only reason I managed to find them was the tenacity I have for their roast chicken with preserved cabbage. Get there before 3:30pm for their lunch special – it’s filling and under $ 6.

For those in the know, there has been talk over the last few years about the faltering quality of Chinese eateries in Manhattan Chinatown(at least west of Canal). Everything from Dim Sum to noodle shops are experiencing a surge in prices and catering to a whole new crowd of patrons: tourists. Frozen in time with its gritty vibe and classic Canto offerings is Danny Ng’s, a popular locals establishment buried on the ground level of the now defunct Golden Bridge( ). The vibe here is uncannily NY Chinese from the cheesy table settings, the photo collage of Chinese celebrities posing with Danny, the cramped seating of a ton of round tables, and the waiters decked out in their black and white unis is a real testament to maintaining the kind of old school aura that many people have come to know. Any other way just wouldn’t cut it. This is part of the experience. For all intents and purposes, this is Cantonese cuisine done right. The choices here are all well done from the presentation down to the taste. Prices may feel a tad higher but the portion more than makes up for it. Shoot for some classic dishes, like ging dou pai gwut(Peking pork chops), wat dan ha yan(scrambled shrimp with egg), hap tou ha(mayo shrimp with walnut?), zha zi gai(crispy chicken), hoi seen chow mein(seafood fried noodle), and the wedding appropriate cheurng sau mein(longevity yi-foo noodles). Hell, throw in a yeung chow fried rice and that should keep everyone über satisfied. But where regular dishes may suffice, it’s the gourmet dishes that truly excel. See yau sek ban yu(rock fish in soy sauce) is clean and the soy sauce is the perfect complement to any rice on the table, delivering a real kick to the palate. The infamous t-bone steak commands quite a bit of popularity and with good reason: the meat is tender, juicy, and portioned out in a way where a group of 5 can enjoy the dish singlehandedly. Yeung nam bo(claypot lamb) or dou fu ban lam(grouper fish with tofu) are both stellar choices for ginger loving palates with an atypical protein. Want a «wow factor» dish? Shoot for the nam gua ngau yuk(pumpkin beef), which is a pumpkin that is sliced open to reveal chunks of hearty beef glistening in the center of a perfectly steamed melon matter. Together they make for not only a great taste but an interesting /healthy option. I could write about the food all day honestly, but in the interest of saving you from boredom and keeping this review in anti-rant category, I implore you and a group of hungry friends to check out one of the last truly authentic spots in town. If that’s not enticing enough, I should note that I’ve thrown many events here where the cash only prices don’t break the bank and the BYOB(with mixers provided!) comes in *mighty* handy.

The restaurant name, Danny Ng Restaurant, tells a lot about the type of restaurant it is. This is a non commercialized, family style food restaurant that does not advertise and is very well known in the Chinatown community. Every year, I go there for mother’s day or family member’s birthday. It is very popular in my family. I highly recommend making a reservation, The restauant is small, about 20 ish tables, so it gets booked up easily. The décor is decent. The service is standard in all Chinese restaurants. Some of our favorite, delicious dishes are: –Crispy garlic chicken –Fried Chilean sea bass with French fries –lobster with baked cheese –t-bone steak, medium rare –vegetable with broth(dao miew) Dinner usually includes free chinese dessert called«tong shui». Depending on each day, they may offer red beans, green beans, or tapioca tong shui. Typically, also comes with oranges. Prices are pretty decent, but dish portion has certainly decreased in size. Just like many restaurants I noticed.

I almost didn’t get a chance to try Danny Ng’s due to the«B» rating from the NY Sanitation department! Thankfully, my friend and I were able to drag in my other hesitant friend to try out their food! What we ordered: Peking pork chops — deep fried, smothered in sweet red sauce, this was definitely my favorite! So tender that we could cut through it with chopsticks/forks, and definitely enough for the 3 of us to share. I could’ve just ordered this one dish with a bowl of rice and been happy! Fried Squid with Chili and Salt — also crazy good! Tender squid battered in a tempura batter, deep fried until perfectly crisp and tossed with some onions and sliced fried chili peppers and a generous sprinkling of salt. The squid was so tender that you can just bite off one end and not have the entire squid come out of the batter. Which I appreciate(it makes for neater eating)! And of course, it was just that tender. SOGOOD. Pea shoots in chicken broth — we needed some vegetables to round us out, and these were good! Although I wished we had ordered something that wasn’t so… brothy. It made everything else on my plate really soggy. A solid 4 star meal! The soup in the beginning kind of threw me(Umm, we didn’t order this!), but thank you everyone on Unilocal for letting us know that it came with every meal. I also enjoyed the dessert they brought out, and they gave us a huge plate of oranges! Will definitely be back!

ADHD Summary: Even the persnickety Gong-Ma’s and older Tai Tais who eat out every day are choosing this place as their favorite outside of Flushing. The Food is amazing. Atmosphere, very Cantonese Chinese. Pricing is cheap by NY standards, Moderate by Chinatown standards. Tried Danny Ng’s on the positive review advice of Art L. I got to agree. Their Ginger scallion is great; and by itself would rate high on my list of places that does this correctly. That said, It’s the cheese lobster that is their specialty and sets the standard for my Crustacean Celebration list. That’s right Asian peeps, I said Cheese. It’s not cheesy cheese, creamy cheese. Instead, it’s like a cheese crust parmigiana something that is fantastic. And’s let’s face it. With Little Italy so close by, such things are bound to happen. For the lactose intolerant, get out your enzyme pills, because this place is worth it. The pricing«market price» is currently a very affordable $ 22 per lobster(oddly, this is mid-price for Chinatown). As for other food, I would highly recommend the roast chicken with pickled vegetables was unbelievable. It was so sweet and with such a nice crispy skin, that half the people at our table got confused and thought it might be duck. That good! The beef encased in pumpkin was fairly tasty. I wouldn’t order it alone, but it’s presentation is so nice, that I would actually suggest it as like the 4th or 5th dish on a list. It is definitely BYOB with no corking charge. If you bring white or champs, they can bring ice, but it’s not like there is an ice bucket. Maybe bring something that can help cool stuff. Service is wonderful, Chinatown style. Calling in advance for a large table is probably recommended on the weekend. They are great about holding it for you if you are a little late. Def: Gong-Ma would be the equivalent of grandmother. Tai Tai means wife, but can have more slang nuance in different context.

Looking over my reviews, I noticed that I have no 5 star entries yet. Of all the reviews, the only place SO far that I would feel comfortable giving a 5 is this place. The food is CONSISTENTLY good. It’s really fine by my book. The«yee meen» tastes fresh and a bit«bouncy».the way it should be. However, service is still a 4. the 5 star is strictly on food. All the times I been there, reservation is always required which is fine. but as soon as you time slot is near the end, I do feel hurried to get out.

I remember this place when it used to be near the end of Pell Street. The lights outside were really dim when we walked up to Danny Ng’s Place last night… was it open? I dont know… It is located in a odd place. If I didn’t know it was there… we would have never seen it. We walked in hesitantly. It looks like a banquet hall inside. but small one. It’s clean and shiny. Classic Chinese banquet hall look. I never tried Danny Ng’s food until last night. WHATISWRONGWITHME? How dare I say I am Godmother of Chinatown if I never tried this place? I have to apologize to Danny Ng for never trying his food because it was friggin’ AWESOME. I don’t understand some of the negative reviews. I love Danny Ng now. The waiters were not rude at all. That is how Toisan people speak. They sound like they are yelling at you but they are not. That is how the people and language is. My whole family was this way! They were pretty okay and nice to me. Nothing out of the ordinary when it came to service. I mean he said hello and bye and thank you for coming. I thought at the end he warmed up to us and was pretty nice and was happy that I was happy to see Tong Sui, dessert soup. My bf and I never came here. I knew about it and wanted to try it for years. I even was going to go here for my birthday last year just never made it. After last night, I wish I did come here last year. The food is going to be slightly more expensive here but that is because it is a banquet style restaurant. The portions are HUGE! I have paid the same for less! We had three dishes and i have enough leftover for at least two to three more lunches! That is a lot of food! We had the –Orange Beef with Broccoli –Prawns with Walnuts served over a fruit salad and garnished with Broccoli –Braised bean curd with Chinese mushrooms and Snow Peas Everything was GREAT. I happen to like the fruit salad underneath the prawns. I know of at least one other place that serves their Prawns with Walnuts this way and that is also a banquet hall. The Braised Bean Curd is one of my favorite dish to order… anywhere. It is priced right here with the right portion. It is a NICE portion.(I tried it last at Big Wong, NEVERAGAINATBIGWONG). This is my go to place for Cantonese food now. I dont know who P.F. Chang is but I LOVEYOUDANNYNG! Hey maybe I might be related to Danny Ng! I have family whose name is Ng! I hope so!

Been here a number of times and the food here is pretty good. I love their shrimp with walnuts and the fish maw crab meat soup. We had the T-bone steak, jellyfish, flounder, snow pea leaves, and salt and pepper squid and shrimp. Everything was cooked to perfection. We had the crispy chicken with sticky rice dish which had to be pre-ordered for $ 35.00. It was good but not worth the price. First off, I thought that it was going to be a whole chicken stuffed with sticky rice but its not. It’s actually sticky rice wrapped with crispy chicken skin. There was no chicken at all. Only skin! So the name of the dish is misleading.

I went here recently for a friend’s birthday dinner and the food did not disappoint. The dishes came out at a rapid pace and the waiter even had the foresight to bring out a heated knife for the frozen ice cream cake. Overall, we were content afterwards. This place will provide diners with a fantastic dinner experience.

A couple weeks ago, I had the pleasure of celebrating my friend’s birthday dinner at Danny Ng’s. The restaurant can easily fit a small wedding banquet with its 10 people per person round tables with their own lazy susans. The service was excellent. Servers were attentive and responded to all of our requests. The food was pre-ordered by the host and hostess so we had the pleasure of sitting back and enjoying the food. My favorite dishes were the noodles and mayo shrimp. The best part was how the restaurant staff was in no rush to kick us out upon closing time. Yes, they cleaned up all around us but did not appear irritated that we sat until the very end. I highly recommend coming to Danny Ng’s for good group gathering or even a «date night». Be careful not to pass up the restaurant while trying to find it on Bowery. The restaurant does not have signage on the building’s exterior. If you look through one of the doors on Bowery of the former bank building(located on the corner of Bowery and Canal), you will see Danny Ng’s snuggled inside the former bank. Oh, it is a BYOB place so stock up on liquor upon arrival!

I’ve been here before for the big lazy Susan type of celebratory dinners. That is not out of the ordinary. This review is for the lunch special. Mon-Sun, 11 – 3:30(I think). $ 5.35. The food is fresh and not oily. The service is well, whatever(even for a «nicer’ Chinatown), the bathrooms… almost decent. The lunch menu is varied, but nothing short of the standard stuff. My bf got the chicken in garlic sauce, which came with sauteed veggies. It was good– nice tender pieces of chicken but didn’t taste much like garlic sauce at all. Instead, it was more like oyster sauce. I got the roasted chicken(dark meat on the bone) with soy garlic sauce. This was really good, little fat and crispy skin. Came with a small bowl of white rice– which was a bit less in portion than the meat, but this is good in the end because it limits your carb intake, lol. Pretty sure they have brown rice for an extra– I didn’t ask. The had other standard stuff; roast pork specials, kung po chicken, etc. I’d always hit this up for lunch if you want standard, satisfying Chinese. Yes, it’s similar to take-out stuff(except for the roast stuff, which is why you should get there) — for goodness sake, they have General Tso’s(NOT a Chinese invention). They give you a complimentary pot of tea(standard), and waters per your request(according to my bf, they don’t fill em up fast enough– I prefer tea anyway, the real Chinese beverage to your tea). Can’t beat $ 5.25 lunch– one of the cheaper places in Chinatown, rivaled with Excellent Pork Chop House, Tasty Hand Pulled Noodle… it’s cheaper than the Phở places on Baxter, and cheaper than Nyona. I’m a fan, and it seems there’s a big following for Danny Ng.

Wonderful consistency in food quality and service made Danny Ng’s an easy choice for a dinner gathering to celebrate Lunar New Year’s. The fact that I was able to reserve a table for nine on a Saturday night on the 3rd day of New Year was quite unbelieveable. As a frequent visitor, the food speaks for itself. This review update is purely based on the service quality we received. Knowing that this was a BYOB spot, our group came ready to celebrate with several bottles of wine, vodka, and juice. The waiters tended to our table more times than I can remember to provide us with new sets of plates and cups(and a lot of them). There was not a hint of attitude, and they provided us with everything we needed in brisk fashion. Soup bowls and dinner plates were removed the moment we were finished which allowed us to spread out and serve each other booze on the table. There was no slack on tea and water refills either. Of course the fact that there weren’t many big parties surely helped, but the service quality never waivered even on busy nights. It was a wonderful night with excellent food, drinks, and fun. Danny Ng’s Place has a lot to do with it. Gong hei fat choy! And may your business prosper!

WOW, I was invited to my best friend’s family dinner and boy did we have a feast. Not all the dishes were out and I was so full. The order went something like this. 1. Mayo shrimp with fruits and walnuts — My favorite of all time well done! 2. Bean curd skin roll — Lightly flavored and good. 3. Clams — Very tasty! 4. Scallop — Excellent! 5. Roasted chicken — OMG. very juicy! 6. Shark fin soup — This is the best soup ever! 7. Peking pork chops — Okay, sauce is very sweet. 8. Stir fry lobster — Oh. just perfect! 9. Steamed dungeness crab with sticky rice — Good, very light taste. 10. Chinese noodles — Good! 11. Chinese veggie — Very refreshing, had a lot of soup. 12. Shrimp fried tofu — Perfectly done. 13. Fish — Just perfect! 14. Tapioca green bean dessert — Sooo good! 15. Orange — Served at the end of the meal. At the end they gave out moist towels. I really enjoyed this meal, most of the dishes were perfectly done and not overpowered with heavy sauces, just enough. It’s not a huge fancy restaurant but great for regular family gatherings.

This place is awesome! I don’t know what’s up with all the bad reviews. It’s BYOB and the food is cheap, delicious and plentiful! What’s not to love? Our table order the following dishes: Deep fried Squab with french fries– I never had squab before and it was wonderful. It has a deep, rich flavor that almost reminds me of liver. The skin; crispy with a thin layer of fat underneath, kind of like duck. Clams in black bean sauce– The clams were big and meaty. I can’t believe we got so many for such a cheap price! Peking Pork Chops– Deep fried and smothered in deliciousness. Deep fried squid– A simple dish but executed quite well. The pieces of squid were large, and coating was thin and crisp and not oily tasting at all. Fried Prawns with walnuts and fruit salad in a mayo– The creaminess of the mayo with the sweetness of the fruit and the crispiness of the shrimp all together makes for a killer combo! This was so good, we got two plates of this. Tofu with snow peas and bok choy in a brown sauce. We also got the free house soup and free dessert soup along with a big plate or oranges! I will definitely be back!

The last time I ever patronized this establishment was when it was still located on Pell St. Am unsure if it’s my palate changing or simply I have had better in recent years. We ordered the sticky rice chicken(call ahead) which was actually a disappointment from what I remembered it to be. I had higher expectations but overall though the food here is still pretty decent since our other dishes consisted of lobster with scallions, salt & pepper pork, and black peppered scallops. One thing I will say though if you or fellow diners are not accustomed to the typical mannerism and service I would recommend going to Jing Fong or Golden Bridge(formerly known as Silver Palace) for a better experience.

My coworker took me, along with other people from work here for dinner. It’s a local favorite and it’s hidden. The«Danny Ng» sign is not noticeable outside from the street. It’s literally inside the building Golden Water Bridge Restaurant and on the 1st floor. Small place and looked like the owners tried to cram as many tables as possible. We were party of 5, arrived before 6pm and already packed. Thumbs up for the food… some highlights I enjoyed: Sliced beef steak with sauted spinach — the steak was cooked medium rare and was enjoyable. Salt and pepper seafood trio(shrimp, scallops, & squid) We also had the house special lobster with cheese which was good, but I wasn’t too impressed. My only complaint is the rude service. Could be we had bad luck of the draw with the service, but my first impression — Typical local service which is in your face and rude. Seems the staff is only friendly with familiar patrons and non-chinese clientele. One of my coworker was polite and asked(in mandarin) for another beer from a help staff. The guy was an old uncle looking type dressed in a shirt and tie… figure he’s either one of the managers and was helping out the wait staff since it was noticeably lacking. He just replied rudely in Cantonese back to my coworker that he didn’t understand what the heck he was saying. C’mon! An empty bottle of Tsingtao doesn’t give a clue?!! So, food & price is great, but service… if you can tough it out then it’s an «A-OK» place to eat.

— overall rating: 3.5 — dishes were consistently good but not great — fried lobster w/cheese dish was surprisingly tasty(cheese was very subtle), probably my favorite of the evening — went for my nana’s 70th birthday — attentive service — steak was a bit tough(done medium rare) wasn’t a huge fan of the sauce either
