TD Bank

I’ve never been more frustrated with the service anywhere ever that I had to personally create a Unilocal account to write a review. I am in high school and I want to open a checking account, now I’ve done my research. Online, multiple places said that I am able to open a checking account as long as I open a joint account with my guardian since I’m still a minor. At other TD locations, I’ve asked about the student checking account and they repeatedly informed me how I can create one as long as I come with a parent. So, I finally convince my mom to come with me to the bank, this location. They had the audacity to tell me and my mom that I have to be 18 years or older AND I have to be in college. No where online or in the pamphlets said I had to be in college, and I repeat, all it said was «If the student is under the age of 18, he/​she just open a joint checking account with a parent or legal guardian».
Avoid this bank.

I just went for the ATM, and it was A-​OK.

Ok, this is the ONLY TD Bank you should almost ever avoid going to. If the few key people are not there, then the way they take care of customers who are waiting on line is so slow, you will not be laughing. There was one time I waited 1 hours and I was the 7^th person on line. I am almost always forced to go to the 255 Canal Street location. What I do is I simply stop by to see if it’s packed (more than 4 people on line is packed) and I go to 255 without hesitation. How many times did I wait on line just to bring people with me to the other branch because I couldn’t hold my urine.
George, Janet, Justine, May, Tony, Victoria, Vickie, Wendy, you guys are amazing and you all deserve 5 stars, but some of the other people my god, they have to do something else like greeting and or taking their medications on time (there’s only one who obviously does). It’s not even funny. I’m glad the tall toothpick guy is gone, he was always about staring down, down talking and ego tripping customers.
George and Justine, you know what to do to make this place work but you probably don’t have the power like the bald guy does.

My overall rating for this place is 3 star, one more plus is for the teller who always wear a shy smile when he was helping us. His name is Tony? I’m not sure…
We opened account at this bank, the customer service rep was patient with our questions and she was very helpful.
The waiting line can get pretty long, but it didn’t keep us wait so long.
And the teller (Tony or Txxx? I’m so sorry.)recognized us when we deposited money today. He greeted us with 6PM stuff that my mom consulted him last time. Maybe her weird question made you remember us? Anyway, good memory! You rock! XD

This review is based on Penny Arcade coin-​counting machine and teller service only. Canal Street Chinatown branch facing the entrance of Manhattan Bridge. Formerly Commerce Bank until 2008 bought by Toronto, Canadian bank TD (source: Reuters, October 31, 2008).
Two years of tallying coins and my coin dispenser is now full to the rim which needed emptying to be deposited. Prior to TD Bank’s purchase of Commerce Bank, Penny Arcade was free to the public but that has since discontinued in favor of TD Bank members (members are free). Sadly, the Penny Arcade machine no longer talk «Wow, you have a lot of coins!» from the cartoon girl and no longer offers «guess the total value of your coins» when enable a free «Penny prize» from a TD Bank teller. With a friend who has a TD account, the teller line was complete utter chaos as elderly Chinese women hone no etiquette and no order as do not oblige to form one organized queue. Staff do not control the line in keeping order. Tellers do not smile and do not greet customers as you approach them with your banking transaction. Staff are robots who are apathetic, emotionless, and lifeless. Not one staff offered to assist me when using Penny Arcade either in Chinese or English, nevertheless, based on past experience I know how to use it. TD Bank offer free lollipops, no more free pens, no free coloring book with crayons for children.

Beautiful bank, but slow, terrible service. Common sense says that when it’s the beginning of a month and it’s a Monday chances are that it’s going to be a busy banking day, so the bank should prepare for it. This bank only had two tellers and two customer service reps available. The line to the teller was so long that I saw many people take one look and leave. I needed customer service, not the teller, but after 25 minutes and absolutely no movement on the sign-​in sheet, I left. I heard one teller yell to a regular customer that «No one is working» when the customer shot him a WTH look.

Lines for any human service are 15 minutes minimum. This place needs a LOT of help.
Also only had 1 pen tied to a clipboard. Such a dumb operation going in here.

Worst bank ever! Line took forever. How do you only have 2 tellers working on a Friday afternoon. Will not come back ever!

When I need cash in Chinatown (hey it’s Ctown, cash rules), I usually stop by this TD because of its convenient location. Though they have 2 ATM’s in the entrance area, a lot of the time, only one is working. Then when you get behind a nube that can’t even operate an ATM, you’re going to be waiting for a while. It’s also a sauna in the ATM area in the summer because it acts like a greenhouse with no ventilation. Using the tellers can be hit or miss also. Plus TD requires you to go to the teller to get a checking withdrawal slip instead of stocking them with the deposit slips and having you fill it out at the window. Security they say, what a PITA$$!
I remember when this branch opened as a Commerce bank back in ’05. To drum up business, they were offering a free electric rice cooker with each new checking account. You know that when you offer something free in Ctown as useful as a dien fahn bo, people will camp at your doorstep. The line went around the block! My sister came back with 2 and they ran out within hours.
Here’s another interesting trivial factoid from their Commerce bank days. Look at the stainless steel heat/​cooling vents along the bottom of the windows. Each one of the holes is a Commerce bank «C» logo! Any branch that opened before TD bought them will have it. I miss those days when they’d give logo coin banks to kids to save up their coins for the coin counting machine. They’d hand you a free pen as soon as you walk in too. Every waiter in Ctown would have one! A true marketing coup.
I’ve heard that TD refuses to put up bullet-​proof windows like at other banks, so they contract with NYPD to provide their security, which is good for the bank, but raises other issues.

Worst branch I’ve ever been to. Both ATMs aren’t working and no signs are posted to indicate that. Then there was only one teller working for the majority of the time while the other employees stood around and a huge line formed. When I was helped the teller asked me how I wanted my withdrawal but then didn’t give me what I asked for, instead giving me the standard twenties. This branch is the cloest to my home but I will never go here again.

The lines are very long after work hours. Try to avoid 5−7pm. On the bright side, they’re open 7 days a week! :)

I don’t come to this TD bank often, only when I need cash and of course around Chinatown. Well, just from the front it’s lacking. There’s so much room but only have two machines for the customers to use. They should maybe install two more since there’s so much room. Since there’s only two machines and of course people take forever doing IDK WHAT! so I have to wait 5 – 10 mins just to take out a 20…-_-…
I never went pass the front (to get cash or w/​e nots) but it seems like they need more tellers because it is always crowded and lines a mile long (exaggerated a bit but it’s quite long)
Sure, its chinatown and there’ s lots of people but that’s even more reason for them to have tellers present. So that everyone can get what they have to get done at TD bank and LEAVE!!! not spent their whole lunch break at a bank to take my money orrr give me my money! XP

horrible customer service, all employees give completely different answers to the same questions. supervisor elsa has horrible attitude towards customers. mechanical at best, no human touch at all. better hope the free coin counter keeps your branch afloat.
