Expert staff, knowledgeable, attentive, and friendly. These guys know what they’re doing and they are quick to help. Wether I’m buying accessories or getting air I rarely leave without learning something new. Not only that but these people actually care about what they do and it shows, a quality very rare these days.

I had to make a return trip because of a minor problem, but I had a great experience with Anthony’s sense of customer service. He absolutely goes above and beyond as another review states. (His 3 year old daughter has a great dad!) I also was given a useful referral by a lovely young woman who was behind the counter. If the problem disappears, I will happily change this to a 5 star rating.

Went in last year– everyone was busy standing there and no one helped me. After 10 min I left. I stopped in again today to see if they had a few things I needed– same nonsense a year later. Too bad they are not more helpful because I am off to the next shop farther up.

Danny’s Cycles, Chelsea When it was Metro Bicycles, the people always took time to really listen and help you. With their merger with Danny’s, nothing has changed. Whether I have been looking for a bike accessory for my cycling son-​in-​law or bringing a bicycle in for maintenance, the service is really good. I asked for help
unscrewing a valve cap in order to put air in my tires and got my bike seat adjusted, because one of the guys spotted it was at the wrong angle. It made a big difference to my riding comfort! I’ll be back.

I can’t say enough positive things about Danny’s Cycles Chelsea location. All the employees were so friendly over the phone and in person. Especially Anthony the manager. They went above and beyond to make sure i was completely setup and satisfied with my purchase. Even doing certain things on the bike to ensure my bike would be protected and not easily stolen (complimentary).
I was very late buying my fiancé a birthday present. they spoke with me all day and troubleshooted possibilities to get the bike ontime for his birthday. seriously, above and beyond what should normally happen with any other business…1^st so friendly over the phone, 2^nd keeping me up with the progress of my order, 3^rd and most importantly — when i arrived at the store then had everything ready to go… measured the bike seat for his height, locked down the bike seat so it would not get stolen, walked me though the process of how to use this special bike lock.
i highly recommend this business — and specifically this location to anyone buying a bike.

What lazy, rude, unhelpful staff. Heavens forbid they get up off their ass and look away from their phone to help find or locate a product. Any «repair area» in a bike store that’s downstairs is shady, cause you don’t see them actually working on the bike. Case in point, brought in my bike, breaks were shoddy, they fixed it (for way overpriced) and left and my tire was lose, had to come back later that day.
They need new people with better customer service or else I bet it won’t be long before that store is turned into another nail salon.

Great service!!! I came in last minute for a tune up before my tri and they were able to get it done for me. And they were really nice and helpful!

I have had numerous great experiences at Metro Bicycles, especially by Anthony who always makes my experience a great one when I visit. I have now purchased three Trek bikes and have had at least five tires changed at this establishment. Every time that I go back, the staff is friendly and the service is quick. I even received special treatment during my last visit given that I had almost every part to my latest Trek stolen so I was forced to purchase my third one. I will continue to use this establishment for all of my future bike purchases and service appointments, and I highly recommend Metro Bicycles to other bike enthusiasts.

Last Thursday I stopped into Metro Bicycles in Chelsea. I bought:
A CO2 tire inflator — $ 26 (could have been $ 17.17 from Amazon Prime)
Some tire levers — $ 5
A new tube for my tire $ 14 (definitely not a steal)
No question I overpaid, but that’s just part of living in New York. It was nearby and I didn’t want to wait for my items to be shipped, so I was willing to pay that convenience charge. But then something else happened. When I asked to borrow a wrench to fix my seat, I was told that they couldn’t let me use one unless I paid $ 5. Again, I get that I was in Chelsea and a cup of coffee is $ 5, but really? Keep in mind that I’d just made a $ 45 purchase.
I wish I could tell you that I then convinced the employee (who I’m sure didn’t come up with this policy on their own, given her embarrassed expression) to let me use it. But I didn’t. I just went on my way, crooked seat and all. It’s been bugging me all day. According to Google Maps, there were four other bike shops within ten blocks, and after mulling it over I really wish I had given my business to a more deserving, helpful shop.
Today I went back and returned those items, and won’t be back.

After a rather dismal round of bike shopping in my neighborhood of Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, I decided to take a trip to Metro Bicycles on 6^th Avenue. From the moment I walked in, a staff person greeted me, asked me if I had any questions (I told him I had many) and he proceeded to guide me towards the perfect bike. While I was waiting for them to assemble the bike (new out of the box), another staff person talked to me about biking in the city, suggested routes, pointed me in the direction of maps and biking literature by the front door. All in all, these guys were great. They did not try to up sell me on anything and simply listened to what I was looking for and pointed me towards a great deal and a fantastic bike!

This place is awful. Their idea of helping customers is to try to shortsightedly sell you the most expensive thing they can whether it’s what you need or not.
I went in here again today b/​c it was nearby… I was hoping to replace a seat post bol that had broken. The lady working the counter tried to lie to my face and tell me my seat post was «broken» and that I would need to replace the whole thing When I pointed out that no, all I needed was a new nut and bolt, she said «we don’t just have nuts and bolts sitting around…» Why would anyone think a bike repair shop would have nuts and bolts sitting around?
I’ve only been in here for parts a few times and left every time feeling like they tried to screw me for a measly $ 20. Woe to the unsuspecting newbie who buys a bike from these people. Don’t waste your time or money here.
But hey, don’t take my word for it! Try this place out and then compare it to a place like B’s Bikes or Silk Road bikes in Brooklyn and see the difference for yourself…

This shop is close to my office so I have gone in many times to buy lights, tubes and other small accesories. It’s total hit or miss, even if you ask for exactly what you want (like a common size tube) actually purchasing the thing can be an ordeal. One person asks you what you want, a second person gets it and then they all walk away leaving you with the tube on the counter and no one actually cashing you out. Last time I was there I just walked out. If you aren’t spending a lot of money it’s pretty clear they don’t want to put down their pizza and help you. I don’t think I’ll ever go there again.

First impression was not good, so I should have just left right away. The clerks were just sitting around chatting instead of actually helping anyone. Bad sign.
And yes, I should have done more research on bike gloves before showing up, but I thought they might actually give me good info. Nope, just wanted me to buy the most expensive item.
They pushed me to buy a glove style that I found out later was better suited for road bike handlebars, not flat bars like I said I had. Coincidence it was the most expensive one they sold? I ended up going with a different glove, but couldn’t figure out how they were supposed to fit.
And no help at all trying find a good fit, even though online I found lots of simple things to check for when buying gloves. His advice was «if it feels right» because, you know, I am obviously an expert in how it should fit?
This place was pricey, had bad service, and clerks with either no knowledge, or only the knowledge of the upsell.
Avoid at all costs!

My bottom bracket gave out on the way into work. I took it into Metro, and I was told they didn’t have the part for my thirty-​year old bike. Not to worry — I received a recommendation for another shop in the city that is a bit more vintage-​minded. The staff was so friendly and helpful! Furthermore, they were focused on making sure I got what I needed, instead of trying to sell an expensive overhaul that wouldn’t be sympathetic with the bicycle.
Earlier this year, I was plagued by flats and took the bike all over — from attempted home tube repair to shops in Brooklyn and Manhattan. This was the last spot I visited and I haven’t had a flat for months after a chronic and miserable five-​flat February.

Got my new 2012 Mamba yesterday… Though I had some drama with my Thule rack with some missing part, but two thumbs up for Anthony… Thank you for helping me out and taking the time to accommodate my needs. Money well spent!!!

These guys are very considerate and get to my bike quickly when it needs service, which is important as I use it for work. As well, I originally bought it at an uptown location, and they will service it for tune ups at no cost (unless something needs to be fixed/​replaced) for up to 3 years after you buy. I live in Chelsea and this is the only spot I go to!

The price seemed a bit much for changing a bike tire and tube, but hey, what the heck do i know. I didn’t do any spot checking on price for that stuff. I like the free air you get outside any bike shop like this one.

For the area, the prices are outstanding. You’ll really only find better in Brooklyn. This place has been there since I was little and it’s my go-​to bike shop if I need something quick or I’m too lazy to true my own rims or fix my own flat, but they screw it up sometimes. That’s the brief review, feel free to move on.
To be more detailed; their front-​of-​house staff are quite knowledgeable, and extremely friendly. I get the sense that they’re on my side, which is hard to find in a salesperson. However, their back-​of-​house mechanics clearly don’t speak any English and are not of the same caliber of knowledge as far as I could tell.
I had my bike completely vandalized and taken apart… only the shocks were stolen for some reason. but that’s another story. I came in and told them to give it to me straight. They said it would be 250 $ just for the shocks replacement and labor would just be a little bit more for the rest of it. Money wasn’t as much of an issue as getting my bike working, because then my job was my bike, but after a quick look on google I can get a 91 $ set of rock shox (the brand they gave me). Needless to say I felt quite scammed, but such is manhattan and local bike shops in general.
However, that is only half the story. When I received the «fixed» bike, I rode it maybe 9 blocks… but something felt weird. I didn’t know a bike could feel sluggish, but the turning just felt… sluggish. It felt like the bike was shifting slowly. I stopped riding and noticed that the headset was completely loose. I brought it back and the guy had the mechanic come out, and the guy took a hex wrench to the headset and just tightened it a bit more.
How could the fix have been THAT simple? How could something THAT simple be overlooked, where the entire front headset could have come loose and I could have had no steering in the middle of sixth ave? Needless to say, I will never get major work done there again. The guy said «sorry» and I said «that’s it? Sorry?» and he said «Won’t happen again and if your bike has any more issues with that you can bring it back.»
Well that’s the least you could do, I guess.

After an entire summer of living without a bicycle I finally caved… and decided to rent a bike. Yes, I know I should just buy one but with a five floor walk-​up and no storage space… I’m hesitant about the investment. Fortunately, on a perfectly gorgeous Saturday during Summer Streets, Metro Bicycles had a bike waiting for me at noon (they don’t take reservations, I was just lucky). The rental process was seamless; just a name, address and CC# and I was off! The guy here was even nice enough to lend me a bike lock to protect my rental should we stop for a snack along the way.
Through the urban streets, up along the West Side Highway through the Hudson River Park and even farther up through Riverside Park, cross town through Central Park and back down along Park Avenue for the last leg of Summer Streets and down, down even further along 2^nd Avenue. Hours of biking, exploring and sheer giddiness and my sadness upon returning the rental was palpable.
The rate is $ 9 /​hour with a full day rate of $ 45, overnight for $ 55. I had the bike from 11:30 — 5:30 and paid $ 29. Not sure about the math on that but I think I got the happy girl discount. As far as bike rentals go, it’s not a cheap place. But in this ‘hood it’s a reliable option. Better hit the streets while the weather’s still hot!

I came in with another busted back wheel. Friendly staff and fast repair a plus. $ 18 service for changing said wheel (on top of cost of wheel)?Maybe I need to start being more careful where I park my bike.
