Caught a flat last night 10 minutes before these guys were closing. Didnt have tools or a tube in my bag. Pablo let me borrow a 6 mm, tire lever and a valve adapter so I could change my flat outside and get back on the road.
I own Harvest Cyclery in Bushwick. Loaning out the tools you use to make a living can be hard to rationalize, but its not always about the money. Pablo was very gracious by handing me a wrench in his store. Not all shop owners would do the same. Hats off to him!
But don’t be a bum, buy some tools from this shop if you need them. Support your local bike shop because the Internet won’t fix your bike when you are in a pickle!

I am a big cycling fanatic. I ride a lot and as such, I have to often get minor adjustments to my bike or replace things that break. I have been in to Echelon a few times in the past couple of months. One time was a dirty bottom bracket, another was a broken spoke. I also bought some apparel there recently and they were really helpful there as well.
My recent visit was to buy headlights and tail lights. I showed up 20 minutes after closing and they let me in after some begging on my part. Even though they were closed and probably wanted to go home, they were really patient and helped me find the right lights and put them on the bike for us. I am always happy with the service I recieve at Echelon, I recommend you check them out.

Great service and expertise… This guys know about PRO road and TT bikes, and most important, they know how to treat clients. Totally recommended.

Prices are reasonable for the area and it’s convenient to get to.

This mechanic was very competent and performed an unusual request on my Kestrel Time Trial bike. He asked the right precautionary question and accomplished the task. I was called when my bike was ready for pick up the next day. My bike rides better and faster than it ever did. awesome.

The biggest complaint I see about bike shops in NYC is that they make you feel like you are a novice who doesn’t belong in their expert club. I have been in quite a few shops like that but Echelon is not one of them. Friendly, helpful, instructive without attitude when needed, my experience with Echelon was great. I dealt with Danny and a few others, and everyone was great.

Great guys who know their stuff. They helped me choose a great city commuter bike. I especially appreciate the mechanic. There is a surprisingly large inventory of accessories for such a small store e.g. after trying other larger places, such as REI, this is where I found great bike shoes. Happy to have them in the neighborhood.

I actually live in San Francisco and wanted to buy a bike I could store in the NYC area for when I visit. I was shopping around for an end of year clearance for a Wilier Izoard — they worked with me on the price and pedals and I think I got a fair deal and very good service, plus they stored the bike for me until I could come by and pick it up. They were very responsive by email.
They have some nice bikes there… so if you are an intermediate to serious rider you will not be disappointed. The shop is conveniently located in the Chelsea/​West Village area. I would not hesitate doing business with them again if the opportunity arose.

I went in on a Monday, had to replace a fork and they said I could pick it up Thursday at best but they’ll call when it’s ready. Friday I called them and they said they ordered the wrong part so it will take until the following Wednesday. I run errands constantly at my job and my workload has been piling up so I asked if they could overnight the part so I can have my bike back before the next work week. They said I would have to pay for that, but I have already given them a week of my time. They did not even call to tell me it would be longer. I could have gone elsewhere and dealt with this sooner but they would rather keep me waiting.

I was traumatized after having my beloved commuter stolen and came to Echelon to see if I could replace it with something inexpensive, but reliable and cool looking. I was lucky to have Sergio in the store looking after me, because he listened to what I wanted in a bike and gave me lots of options of fixed gear and single speeds while explaining the difference in each. He even let me take his own cool Cinelli track bike for a spin to compare it to the ones I was considering.
Sergio set up a number of different bikes for me to test ride in the area, and when I decided which one I wanted was really accommodating to the changes I wanted to make (I swapped the flat bars for drops, and changed the bar tape to a better looking one) and worked with me to make sure that I wasn’t paying a fortune for the upgrades. He showed me in the shop how to switch from fixie to single speed. He also got the mechanic to set the bike up straight away for me and introduced me to everyone in the shop. All of the staff were really friendly and enjoyed chatting about riding and racing in NYC. Even though the bike wasn’t an expensive one at all they all gave me lots of attention and took the time to make sure I was happy with my choice without pressuring me into a more expensive bike.
Go to Echelon and ask for Sergio! He is the best.

Half these guys are helpful and half very clearly do not want to be there and aren’t eager to help customers. One was going to let me ride away on my new bike with the seat way too high until I asked about adjusting it. I asked the same guy about locks and he was so unhelpful in suggesting what kind of locks are best and explaining what they did-I’m a new rider in the city so I have absolutely no idea what I’m looking for. Good products but service could be better.

I popped a tube in my tire (my fault… I was actually filling it with their outside air pump and overfilled), so I asked if they could fix it. Nice young guy was very helpful and told me it would be a while so I left the bike. After about an hour (longer than he’d said, but I didn’t mind), I got my bike back with a new tube and paid $ 18. A little high, but I was in the meatpacking district so I expected that.
40 or so blocks later, my tire is completely flat. I’m too far away to go back, so I hop a nearby subway home to Harlem. I take the bike to my local shop, and it turns out the «brand new» tube has popped. While they’re replacing it for me (for $ 12), I call Echelon and tell the guy what happened. This wasn’t the same person who helped me, I don’t think, but he was understanding and put me on hold. When he came back, he relayed the following from his boss (who, incidentally, I remember seeing in there earlier. He’s the only old and out-​of-​shape guy, and I witnessed him treating a customer like an idiot. No people skills, this guy): I can bring the bike back down (from Harlem!) so they can take a look, but no promises. A refund is out of the question, since they don’t know if it was their fault that the tube they just put in popped and had to be replaced less than a half hour after it was installed. Really weak. It’s only $ 18, but that’s a d*ck move.
The one star is the for the guy who initially helped me and the guy on the phone. I could tell he felt bad about his boss’ decision.

I had a really positive experience here. Look, a typical person who rides bikes for sport is going to feel intimidated walking into a shop full of people who live for bikes and know a thousand times more about it all than you ever will. A little humility in a place like this is normal and OK.
I knew the bike I wanted and this place was listed as one of 4 dealers in NYC. They were the most attentive when I called to vet each place, so I came here, and they helped size me to the frame properly by measuring me on a similar-​geometry bike (since the one I wanted needed to be ordered). On follow-​up visits the staff were attentive and helped me choose the right pedals and clipless shoes (my first time). They cared to tell me which models were crap and which were overpriced. They gave me their personal opinions and experiences with the products — which I much appreciate over «here are a bunch of options, any of them are good for a beginner.»
My fitting for my new bike with Pablo was a great experience. He was careful, methodical, and just watched me ride for long stretches of time to understand my riding style and my anatomy. I didn’t have to say or ask anything — he got everything he needed from observing and measuring, like a true pro. He made perfect adjustments to my brakes and levers (for my tiny hands). I’ve never enjoyed braking so much. The first 30 miles I did on the bike after this fitting are the most comfortable I’ve ever had in 20 years of biking: for this I give 5 stars.

I just purchased a bike from Echelon and had a great experience. They fielded my call prior to the store visit, explaining what models they had in stock that fit my criteria and giving me their prices. When I arrived at the store they were quick to assemble the bike I wanted to try and set me up outside for a test ride. Without asking, they provided some similar bikes for me to test and took the time to explain the key differences. I ended up purchasing on the spot. Daniel, Pablo and staff were great!

Excellent place, real professional. Picked up a helmet and light… Very informative staff, very helpful also. Open early also, so that’s always good…

Bought a Colnago last fall from Echelon and had a great experience. There are 3 shops in the NYC area that sell Colnago (as well as other Italian bikes) and hands down this is the best. I still take my bike in for quick tunes (free), full tuneups (discounted) and accessories (decently priced) — the service is great and very quick. I’ve worked with Danny, John, Rene and Pablo. All of them know their bikes inside and out.
I hope I never have to replace my bike, but if I do, I’m stopping at Echelon first.

I wandered in to Echelon Cycles just to price some bikes before leaving town.
I was assisted by Daniel who knew that I was only browsing and unsure if I’d purchase a bike or not.
Daniel was extremely helpful in picking the type of bike that suited my needs and fit my price range. He was more than happy to bring bikes down for me to look at and explain all of the specs that I needed to know. He even went to the trouble of writing everything down for me so that I could have more of a think about it.
I haven’t decided if I’ll purchase a bike yet but the service was five star and their range of bikes and knowledge of them was impressive.

I had a mixed experience here today. A couple buddies of mine and I came in to do some shopping; one of them wanted a new bike and the other and myself were looking at gps speedometer units and other misc items. While shopping, I accidentally knocked the sensor off my magnet trip meter via breaking the cheap zip tie. I asked the man in the back, a middle aged (i think Carribean) man if he has a replacement. He just started at me with that NYC look that screams «eff you, don’t bother me». Literally not saying a word to me (nor did i get one of the many zip ties in his toolbox) Terrible service.
We did however receive great service from the younger white guy up front (forgot to catch their names) who showed us different items and explained their differences, gave price quotes and got a couple bikes down for my friend.
Great service from the second guy, unfortunately I was too put off by the first guy to actually buy anything. He may have been the owner.
