Double Tree

If a hotel has 440 rooms, and accepts 441 reservations for a particularly night, the 441^st reservation is going to be turned away. The manner in which the guest is «accommodated» can often make the difference between a slightly annoying, or a truly MISERABLE experience. We were that 441^st guest on Saturday night the 11^th, after a long day on the road, but the experience at this Doubletree was singularly the worst, most incompetent treatment we have ever received at the hands of a hotel.
We attribute this experience, not to the poor, beleaguered, desk clerk, but rather to the poor training (any?) that she had received in preparing for what must not be an uncommon situation.
According to the «folio» we subsequently received by email, we arrived at 11:36 (in fact, it was more like 11:15, but the single desk clerk’s delay in greeting us (she was under the weather, and was, in truth trying to power through her cough) wasted close to 20 minutes. The reservation system was balky, but finally recognized our reservation number. We were finally assigned a room, and with the obligatory offer of chocolate chip cookies, we ascended the elevator to find, upon entering the room that it was already occupied!
We felt terrible for the people whose rest we disturbed, and quickly retreated, with apologies. One might think that similar apologies might have followed FROM the desk clerk, but instead, when we returned to the reception desk, we received nothing more than a wide-​eyed stare, followed by a silent retreat, into the «administrative office.»
Nothing more for 10 minutes, when a young man emerged from another door, with no further information — -we had to retell the story of having barged into the already-​occupied room. Then HE retreated to the administrative office, finally (another 8 — 10 minutes) emerging to inform us, matter of factly, that there were no available rooms, and that they would instead walk us over to another hotel in the Hilton chain, the Hampton Inn, about 5 minutes away, and that we would «be called by his manager» the next day.
NO meaningful apology, nothing to acknowledge that our own discomfort — never mind that of the people whose room we had «invaded,» was the least bit out of the ordinary.
Short story: We reached the Hampton on our own steam, they were absolutely fine, and we finally got some sleep. But the experience at the Doubletree will discourage us from dealing wIth Hilton ever again — despite the fact that we are «Hilton Rewards» members.
Final points: The «folio» showed that we departed at 12:13 AM. Close to 40 minutes of chaos and inconvenience. And, oh, by the way, no call from the «manager.»

Bad everything, and I’m not one to write bad reviews. I worked in the hotel industry for years, and never stayed at such a below average hotel. Shower leaked all over the floor, keys to room didn’t work repeatedly, broken drawers, 0 customer service. It’s as if they didn’t want to help the guests. This hotel basically provides a bed and a toilet, don’t expect anything else at all. With the numerous options around here, skip this hotel, you’re better off anywhere else.

My visit was this May and it was my first time at this hotel. The workers were all friendly and more than helpful. The hotel ambiance is business/​formal and clean. The hotel itself appeared narrow. Hallways were very narrow with only 3 smaller than average elevators and 44 floors so the stairs were our main way to move up and down swiftly. The only issue I had was being overcharged. I had a large vehicle and was charged 195 $ for 2 nights. On their site it states 70 dollars per night with an oversized vehicle which meant I should have been charged $ 140. I had to call back and sort out the matter. Other than that, the service and hotel itself was wonderful.

This hotel has room for a lot of improvement. The famous DT cookies are left in the warmer too long and are crunchy and on the verge of over-​warmed.
I was very disappointed that the room lacks a mini fridge or microwave. There was also no television guide for what the channels were…
The elevators are extremely slow and the pillows are too soft. The room should have a variety of pillows from soft to firm.
The room is cramped to say the least (king size bed). I finally had to complain tonight that a room service tray had been left by the elevator for TWO days!
This is not the Hilton standards the company sets forth.

Stayed here ⁵⁄₁₃ for a few days in a junior suite. Clean linens, clean bathroom, although a bit small (this is NYC after all) and three blocks from the train station. As the other reviews state, 3 elevators servicing a 44 story hotel wasn’t the smartest idea but, I used the steps. Luckily I was on the 4^th floor. I’d recommend this hotel to visitors. Chipolte, Subway and Diane Reid pharmacy are around the corner. Ground zero is a 15 minute stroll from the hotel.

I’d usually say that you get what you pay for, and a four star room at a three star price is still a three star. This, however, is a one star hotel because I am pretty certain there were bed bugs in that room. I felt itchy after the first few nights and after the fourth night I found bite marks that itched like crazy. I had a bed bug problem and dealt with it awhile ago and know exactly how my skin reacts to bed bug bites and I am certain this is what I experienced. Stay here for a good deal, if you can handle it, but be sure to quarantine + wash all belongings as soon as you get home.

Stayed here in February. The price was good (around $ 115/​night) and no major complaints. Since it’s in the financial district, the area is super dead at night (as we found out the night we landed and checked in, hungry and searching for food at 9PM). However, it’s about a 5 minute walk to the nearest subway which is pretty convenient. It’s also walking distance to the free ferry to Staten Island, Wall Street, and the ⁹⁄₁₁ memorial.
The room was small but not a big deal because you really only need the room to sleep in. No complaints with the bed/​pillows. Things are a little run down (scuffs on furniture, hole in blanket, etc.) but everything looked decently sanitary. Staff was pretty friendly as well, however, housekeeping totally neglected to come into our room one day and we were out basically the entire day. Elevators are slow but not too much of a hassle. Our room was kind of by the elevator so we could hear people chatting while they waited for the elevator to come (the hallways are also very narrow).
All in all the price was pretty unbeatable (I have been in far worse hotels for around the same price) and wouldn’t mind staying here again.

My husband and I stayed at the double tree this past weekend. The customer service was exceptional, the room was clean and a good size. Housekeeping also did a good job. The one downside was the elevators. They were quite slow, but aside from that our stay was great. Overall it was a great location and close to various subways. We will be booking here again.

Had a great stay here over the weekend. I’m surprised by some of the negative reviews because everything was really great for us. The room was cheap, like dirt cheap, we paid $ 107 total for a Saturday night. They offer valet parking but you can self park right across the street for $ 40 for 24 hours. The room was smallish but totally fine for two people. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was nice, and everyone that worked there was so nice! The financial district is not necessarily convenient if you are planning to head to mid town for a show or anything but there are a lot of great little bars and restaurants right next to the hotel. I would definitely stay here again!

Have always loved Doubletree’s. Always seem to be a little more expensive but worth the extra money. This was the WORST bed I have ever slept in. It was a nice big king sized bed. But sagged in the middle. You end up sleeping on top of whoever else is in bed with you.
You could also see some of the upkeep and maintenance had not been done. Our door was hard to get locked and unlocked. Some lamps fell apart when we tried to use them. I was able to fix that! Everyone working here was fantastic which redeemed it a little.

I have stayed here a couple of times.
What to like –
— fairly quiet location
— proximity to Wall Street and therefore lower Manhattan if that is your need
— wifi in the rooms
— flat panel tv
— coffee/​tea in the room
— those warm chocolate chip cookies
— comfy bed
— there is a restaurant in the hotel
— you can use online checkin
The downsides:
— rooms are a bit on the small side
— hallways are downright narrow
— no tub in the bathroom
— counter space is really sparse in the bathroom
— note to hotel — a medicine cabinet or few drawers would go a long way here, not much im te way of shelves or anything
— not much in the way of drawers for clothing
But — a reasonable hotel in NYC and close to all that lower Manhattan offers

My significant other had a business event to attend in the city and his company booked a night’s stay for him at Doubletree. It’s half my usual commute to work in the morning from the hotel vs. home, or so I thought, so I stayed a night with him for the convenience. We were all the way up on the 26^th floor, with 44^th being the highest I believe. Having said that, it took a while for the tiny elevator to reach the ground level where I was patiently waiting, despite there being 3 of them.
My first impression when I got out of the elevator was «wow, tight hallways!» followed by «damn this room is small!» It felt like being in a stateroom on a cruise ship (but with a big window). I didn’t expect much from a NYC hotel room given the limited real estate in an overly populated city, but it was unbelievably puny! For the same reason, I felt that ventilation and air quality were rather poor. It always felt stuffy in the room and the thermostat can never be set to a comfortable temperature — it was either too hot or too cold. It didn’t help that the unit was right next to our bed.
I also decided to utilize the fitness center on the 3^rd floor, to find that it was made up of 2 ellipticals, 3 treadmills and some free weights. The room was not much bigger than our hotel room.
The worst part of the stay was the next morning, when it took me about 15 minutes from the point I started waiting for an elevator to actually stepping out of the elevator to catch my train to work. The elevator ride itself took about 10 minutes, as it stopped on literally every single floor to pick up a guest who wouldn’t have been able to fit anyway. Needless to say, I was late to work. The end.

But the elevators have you waiting for Godot. Pro tip: If you’ve bypassed jamming into an elevator while stuck on the middle floors (19^th here), take the elevator going up and ride it on the way down. Three elevators isn’t enough during the peak hours (early afternoon on most days).

Before I write this review, I’ll note that I have stated here twice in the last month and have had multiple coworkers stay recently as well — these problems were not limited to my room, floor, or dates.
Elevators — they are not helpful. I waited on the 9^th floor for an elevator down for 10 minutes and finally gave up and took the stairs (with what seemed like everyone else in the hotel). When I got back from grabbing a coffee at Gregory’s (yum), the down button was still lit. Not sure if it was mine or someone else who had given up — but it wouldn’t surprise me. The first time I stayed here, two of the elevators were being serviced so this was understandable, but when all three are working, there’s really no excuse. Get a room on the lowest floor possible and plan on taking the stairs.
Showers — be prepared for your shower to leak all over your bathroom floor each time you take one. This is a combo of the lip of the shower base, the door not being sealed well, and what I assume is a slight slant away from the shower head. Really all you can do is put an extra towel down to catch it and have the sopping wet towel changed out every day.
Counter space — there is none. Expect to function like a college kid toting their things in and out of a community bathroom.
A/​C and Heat. I’ve only stayed here in the summer so far, but you will have little control over the temp in your room. At 69, the cold air runs constantly and at 70, it starts blowing hot air (we never let it run long enough to see if it would stop on its own). Bring layers to keep yourself comfortable.
Plugs — there are no available plugs at the night stand. They are taken up by the two lamps, a cordless phone, and an iHome that is not compatible with iPhone 5 or above.
Room — there were several things around the room that just showed it hasn’t been totally kept well. A broken (and poorly fixed) handle on the nightstand, lots of patched (and left white and then scuffed) places on the wall, deadbolt on door didn’t lock (so we used the manual lock at the top (which, if you’ve seen the news, isn’t that comforting).
Overall, the location and availability of rooms dictated my staying here. It is extremely convenient if you’ll be in the financial district (close to stone street restaurants, Dig Inn and Gregory’s coffee at the corner are great, lots of subway stops around). However, given more options, I’d likely stay elsewhere.

Good hotel, has valet but just park in the garage across the street. In the middle of the financial district. Small room but hey its old and the city… deal with it right?
Its odd when you walk in the front to check in, you need to go up a floor.
Clean hotel though and decent staff. Door guy was great suggesting us to park across the street!

Pros:
— Conveniently located in the financial district.
— Walking distance to many tourist locations.
— On the same block as the Whitehall St station for the R subway line.
— Two minute walk from the Bowling Green Station for the 4 and 5 subway lines.
— Five minute walk to South Ferry terminal.
— Chipotle and Duane Reed are at the corners of Stone St & WhiteHall St.
— Rooms were clean and beds were comfortable.
— Rooms have safe inside the closet.
— Check-​in and Check-​out processes were quick.
Cons:
— Area is a bit deserted on the weekends, especially at night.
— Elevators were terribly slow during checkout time.
— Breakfast options in the area catered toward the «on the go» worker, so no real sit down options.
— Bathroom showers were small.
— Shower stall leaked water so there was a small pool of water every day around the shower and toilet.
— Didn’t notice any security at the lobby of the hotel and people can technically walk in and out of the hotel and access any floor.
— No cookies at check-​in time, was told to come back in an hour… An hour to bake some cookies???
Overall, I enjoyed the stay at the hotel and the staff were friendly (for NYC lol), but I think if you’re coming here as a tourist, be prepared for deserted streets on the weekends…

We had a really good experience at this hotel. Check-​in was a breeze, we received a nice upgrade, and being handed a large, warm chocolate chip cookie never hurts. Hottie HOUSED that thing before we even made it to the elevator. Mine was gone 30 seconds later, so I can’t bust his chops too hard. God Himself may be baking those cookies. They’re that good.
There is no parking lot/​garage specific for this hotel. There is a self-​park lot directly across the street for about $ 40 for 24 hours. You can valet with the DoubleTree, but you can bet your hiney that your car is going into the exact same lot for twice the price. Save some cash and pull it in yourself.
Our floor was quiet (38). We didn’t hear a thing from the hallway nor any of the other rooms. One thing I will say is that the elevators are very slow during prime hours. That being said, room service in the morning was quick and the portions were huge. The room size is standard for NYC and we had plenty of towels. The staff was all-​smiles and very welcoming.
Stay here and get your warm cookie, folks.

Ask for the gratis chocolate chip cookies when you check-​in. Do it. You will not regret it!
The service was just merely okay (not great); however, the room was comfortable and clean (perhaps a little small /​cramped). Be careful about the Wi-​Fi: You have to pay for WiFi, but you might be able to get a free promo code from the front desk personnel (if you catch them in a good mood). You can connect to up to three mobile devices.
Getting around Manhattan is somewhat convenient from this location only because of the Blue and Green Subway Lines (Bowling Green Station is very, very close by). Get a Metro Card! Cab fares to other neighborhoods will run you about twenty bucks a pop since this place is located at the southernmost point of Manhattan (near battery park), and, as such, is not particularly close to any of the places you will likely be going to. So plan on taking the subway and walking (as much as you are able to so).
There are limited options for food, bars and convenience stores in this neighborhood because being located in the 9 – 5 oriented financial district operating hours. Everything seems to shut down once the close of the business day approaches (except for the area bars).
My main /​major complaint is that there are only three or four elevators for forty plus floors. Expect as much as a ten minute wait when you take the elevator.

Just as the name implies, the DoubleTree Financial District is located in the financial district of lower Manhattan. Set in the Stone Street Historic District, the DoubleTree is close to and within walking distance to several major New York City landmarks including the World Trade Center, ⁹⁄₁₁ Memorial and Museum, Brooklyn Bridge, Battery Park, Wall Street and the Staten Island Ferry to the Statue of Liberty.
New York is very much a public transportation city and the hotel is close to a couple MTA stops. The closest subway station is the Whitehall Street station. The 100% non-​smoking hotel is a little dated and the exterior is not much to look at but inside, it was a comfortable stay and the rates were more reasonable than the other location such as Time Square or Central Park. I don’t know why you would be driving in New York but valet and self-​parking is available for a daily fee ($ ⁵⁵⁄₄₀). There are no in/​out privileges for self-​parking.
Because the hotel is located in the financial district, there are limited options for late night eateries and nightlife. You’ll have to take the subway up town to experience the city that never sleeps. But on the positive side, there’s limited traffic down here and you’re away from all the tourist crowds and noise. Up late and looking for something to do? I recommend McSorley’s Old Ale House in the East Village. It’s the oldest pub in America and guaranteed to be a good time.
The hotel is on the small side with only 14 floors of guest rooms. The main entrance and hotel restaurant (Antinori Restaurant and Bar) are located on the ground level. The lobby, registration desk, gift shop and business center are all located on the second level. The hotel gym is located on the third level and the guest rooms are located on floors 4 — 44 (not all the floors are guest room floors). There are three elevators to service the entire hotel. The elevators are small and during peak times, can be excruciatingly slooow.
Check-​in was quick and easy, the front desk agents were friendly and helpful and the signature DoubleTree cookie was warm and delicious.
On this trip, I booked a standard «city view» king bed room and upon check-​in, I was upgraded to a standard «river view» king bed room on the 44^th floor as a HHonors Gold. Like most hotel rooms in New York, this room was tiny (but well decorated). At 250 square feet, the room was appointed with a comfortable king size bed, flat screen television, small desk, coffee maker, security safe and a large window with views of the Hudson River (I think). There’s not much «free space» in the room and I don’t know if a roll-​away bed would fit in here. The rooms are great for business travelers and couples but I don’t think they would be great for families. There are no mini-​fridges or microwaves.
Because there are only a handful of rooms on each floor, they are stacked close to each other and you will hear your neighbors in the hallways. Bring ear plugs.
And as small as the rooms were, the bathrooms were exponentially smaller. The sink, toilet and shower stall were all cramped into a tiny space and unless one of you is in the shower, this bathroom isn’t big enough for two people to use. Aroma Actives bath and body products were provided in the bathrooms.
Other hotel amenities included a business center located in the lobby and a pretty standard hotel gym. There is no pool/​jacuzzi or Executive Lounge here. Gold and Diamond members receive a complimentary breakfast buffet in the hotel restaurant. The fitness center had a couple of benches, free weights, a Precor multi-​station and several treadmills and ellipticals. It wasn’t much but enough to get your sweat on before hitting the town.
On this trip, I took advantage of the breakfast buffet twice and it was pretty decent. Breakfast included continental items such as fresh fruit, pastries, yogurt and cereal and hot items such as scrambled eggs, bacon/​sausage and pancakes.
Overall, the DoubleTree Financial District was a decent stay and I would recommend it to anyone traveling on a tighter budget. The employees were friendly and helpful and the location was close to several major NYC landmarks. It’s not the most centrally located hotel in Manhattan or the most New York chic, but you’ll save a few bucks and be able to spend that money on other things.

We stayed here for two nights during the first blizzard of 2015. The hotel is in the heart of the financial district and two blocks from my job.
Upon checking in, you are given a bottle of water and a fresh yummy chocolate chip cookie.
The rooms are on the smaller side, but clean, comfy, and very nice!
The staff here are excellent and helpful!
There is a restaurant onsite at the hotel as well, but you can venture out to the bars or restaurants in the area.
Don’t forget to walk over to battery park which is about two blocks or so and admire the view and breathe in some fresh air on a beautiful day.
From my room, I had a beautiful view of the freedom tower!
