I discovered this place because my husband’s family always comes to this bakery when they visit NY. It is one of those hole in the wall places that is really good with decent prices. I always get the mango basil drink in the fridge in the back. It is so yummy. It has pieces of mango and little balls with basil seeds– you need the thick straw to drink it up. Yum. The backed goods are also yummy. Not super healthy thought. The steamed pork bun is so good with a sweet soft bun and beef/onion/tomato concoction inside that is just right. The sesame balls are super sweet, almost too sweet but so delicious because the sesame seeds taste like they are toasted and to goes so well with the sweetness inside. I have a few other favorites but I don’t know what they are called. I generally just point(since I can’t read Chinese) and one the two ladies just put in on my tray. I am okay with this because I’ve liked everything I have tried. Word of caution, the small tables are usually full so I generally just take my tray to the ledge by the window and eat standing there.

I’ve been coming to this place ever since I was a kid and have seen the constant name changes between dragon land and Maria’s. The place is consistently good and there’s nothing to complain about except sometimes you get a lot of coins instead of bills when you get change. The egg custards are great and they now do a more rustic look. I miss the old ones that were done ins molds as the crusts are much more flakier, maybe they should offer both.

I am a regular here, The ladies there all know me, except for a few. As soon as I walk in they would make me my coffee. They know how I like my coffee. Today I was a bite hungry so I got a ham and egg bun with my coffee, I decided to stay so that I can eat before I leave. Most of the seats are taken so I stood by the window. The lady who was working at there this morning was talking so loud that I can even hear four feet away. She was annoying me the whole time I was there, so I was trying to eat fast and leave. So she was training a new person telling her to clean here and there. Cleaning the windows she was talking about, so she came to me and asked me to move so that the new girl can clean the window. Since I was already annoyed by her loudness so when she asked me to moved I just threw out the half of my ham and egg bun and left. I think any cleaning should had been done before the bakery open for business, you can’t walk around spraying Windex while people are eating close by. There are a few seats next to the window where she was cleaning. Jackie I think you should talk to them. Henri

The butterfly cookie I bought here did not seem very fresh, and their winter melon wife cake is pretty average. I’m taking off an additional star because the counter lady tried to get away with giving me less change than what she was supposed to. The food is cheap and no one is going to miss a quarter or two, but the dishonesty left a bad taste in my mouth.

When I lived in the miserable NYU dorm down the block, this was my sanctuary for a cheap snack as a starving student. Everything here averages around $ 1.50 and it is GOOD. Years later, I come back and know that this review is very long overdue. I love this place because I could pick up bread and heat it up and it would taste freshly baked even 2⁄3 days later. you really have to know what to get. I just had really good luck with trying the options. I never really went for the sweet pastries because I am super picky, but every time I come here I always buy the shredded pork bun(rou song bao) and try something else. Lately I found the Char siu bao is pretty decent and the dan huang dou sha su(red bean and egg yolk pastry) was super tasty — if you are a mooncake fan you will definitely like this.

Needed a pineapple bun stat! So while I was in Chinatown I saw this place which was busy and had two ladies standing in front of the pastries. I liked that they were handling the food and not have the general public touch the tongs/food. Price is standard for the buns. Pineapple bun was $ 1 and tasted decent. Not the best or worst just as expected which is fine by me. Service was good and place was clean.

A modern bakery in Chinatown offering the usual array of Cantonese pastries, including roast pork buns, pineapple buns, and egg tarts. You are not allowed to serve yourself – there’s a staff member posted to the pastry display and a rope that keeps you at a safe distance from the goods so that she can serve you – and it’s an orderly place. The pastries appear to be fresh, and the ones I had(pork bun and a fried pastry with a meat filling the name of which I do not know in English) were tasty. I’d advise against the«special drink» that they have on offer, which was sickly sweet and a bit medicinal; I’d have preferred something a bit more mundane like a lemon tea.

Randomly stopped by while walking with some friends because it was the closest bakery to the train station… what a letdown! I ordered three items and all three were disappointing. The Mango rice ball — the outside was delicious and gooey but actual mangos on the inside were so sour! It left a pretty bad taste. The taro bubble tea(that I ordered hot) did not taste like taro at all; it tasted like watered down lukewarm milk with some sugar… lukewarm, not even hot! I could not drink more than a couple of sips… one of the worst bubble teas I’ve ever had. Third, the sponge cake … was not flavorful. didn’t really taste like anything. One of the worst Chinese bakeries I’ve ever been to. Two stars for the nice staff. I really don’t I’ll find myself back here again anytime soon.

My friends and I came here to get out of the rain and to chill. The place was pretty much empty when we came here at about 6:30pm except for a few customers. There weren’t much varieties of buns to choose from because I came pretty late in the day, so I chose to go with a char siu bao; a cold char siu bao. The bun itself wasn’t really«all that» but still edible. Other than that, I wouldn’t really come back here unless I really had to. Seems like an ordinary Chinatown bakery where old folks come and chat about life while drinking their Lai Cha.

Pretty good Chinese bakery — tasty pastries, fast and very clean. I really like that they have a person behind a rope barrier using tongs to handle the pastries you select, so that other random customers can’t touch the pastries as they’re in an open display. Overall good bakery, but wouldn’t make a special trip for it. My favorite pastry is the Sweet Crust Bun filled with butter or pineapple.

Nice variety of buns at this shop. The hot dog bun and pineapple buns are the way to go along with a lemon ice tea or a coffee. All are fresh and soft. Great price for a snack under $ 5. Pick up a tray and pick the variety of baked goods. I also like the chicken pot pies as well.

It’s hard to evaluate Dragon Land Bakery without comparing it to the nearby Taipan Bakery, just a couple blocks east on Canal Street. It’s definitely easier to navigate Dragon Land – just inside to the right there’s a wall of delicious-looking(and clearly labeled) buns, and you tell the server in front which you want, and she puts them on a tray and walks it to the cash register, where you pay. It’s a much easier process than Taipan, which can get hectic. That said, most of Dragon Land’s buns are inferior. The pork buns, steamed and baked, are still delicious though. The coconut custard bun is a greasy mess, closer to hydrogenated oil and coconut flakes than anything resembling custard. Their red bean bun is also not great – it’a a red bean mash rather than a paste, and the bread wasn’t fully cooked.

They’re okay. Nothing special. Buns were not as soft as I’d like They got a woman holding down the baked goods wall, which seems kinda strange, but is probably more efficient.

Come here when I am in the area. Good stuff. Not the best I have ever had. I will go back though :)

I was introduced to this place by my my dear friend who raved about their baked goods. In my capacity as her TM, I was happy to sample several of Dragon’s offerings. I have been here twice. The first time I tried the hot dog scallion roll it was incredible. I was so excited to have discovered a new and exciting, although strange, food item. My 2nd time going I ordered the hot dog scallion roll again and it was kinda meh. The sugar doughnut is good, but without jelly, I find the experience somewhat depressing.

I bought a green tea roll with red bean and cream inside for $ 1.75. I still feel that I got ripped off even though its inexpensive. There is no green tea taste whatsoever. The red bean is hard to chew. I also bought a mango mochi dusted with coconut flakes($ 1.00). The inside had unripe pieces of mango that was sour. The outside is nice and soft but the filling was very disappointing. I think no more. Sometimes the stuff here looks better than it tastes.

I came here just for a snack, and noticed instantly that the place was packed. The tables were flipped fairly fast so I was able to grab a spot, and I settled for cream puff, which was decorated to look like a panda. It was incredibly cute, but lacked any real flavor. I need to come back to try more, but the pastries lacked any kind of flavor, and I was also a bit weirder out that a bakery had a(dirty) fish tank with two large fish in it. A for presentation, B– for taste, or lack thereof. Still cool though

I found it kind of weird that I could not pick the bread out myself. They actually put a rope and a there is a lady who stands there picking out the bread for you. Nice to have this extra service but its totally unnecessary. Is it that hard to use a pair of tongs to pick up bread? NO. Maybe they are trying to prevent people from picking the nicer looking bread? Anyways, the bread if good and cheap. The char siew bao is HUGE. The chicken pie is excellent too. They have a variety of cakes, I didn’t get to try those.

A quaint little bakery a block down from the famous Taipan and Fayda bakeries. There are ladies there who help you bag the pastries or bread you want instead of doing it yourself. Which is sort of good because it prevents people from touching the breads with their hands and we all don’t wanna eat a bread that someone else touched(eww nasty). But on the other hand, there’s no glass that covers the wall of breads! So if some one were to accidentally cough or sneeze near there, yea you’re gonna end up eating someone’s germs. Got a – curry beef bun 1.10(it’s like a cruller on the outside except with a curry filling. Mind you it had BARELY any beef. Felt like they had taken all of the beef pieces from a Cup Noodle and stuffed it in the bread. Btw, they also sell Cup Noodles there for 1.25) – «chocolate» 1.25 which i had assumed to be hot chocolate. Wow what a waste of money. Next time I’ll just go for the Vita drinks they have in the fridge. You wanna know what chocolate powder with water tastes like? Then order this drink! Seriously though, couldn’t have put in a little bit of milk. I almost ordered a tapioca drink but the girl was super honest with us and told us it was made with powder. So thumbs up for honesty! Oh and there’s a 30 minute seating limit.
