Eiji Kiyora Salon

It was my first time at this salon and I was super selective as to which salon I’d go to as I had being growing out a terrible haircut to get it fixed. The Unilocal reviews drew me in and I’m so glad I came! I had Aiko, who was super patient as I tried to articulate what I wanted and beyond that, asked how my opinion often, rather than right at the end like most hairdressers do. After months of a choppy haircut I now have my best haircut ever! Usually it takes a few days of me playing with my hair to get used to it but I was in love right away. Thanks, Aiko!

Had eyelash Perming done with Miho. It was great. She takes her time and explains the process. The salon is very nice and cozy. The process from start to end was smooth. I only experienced some watery eyes and some puffiness, but it resolved fairly fast. It lasted about a month and a half. Experienced a few lashes that fell off but nothing out of the ordinary. Same amount of eyelashes that fall off on a regular basis even before the Perming. Recently had them permed again at 2months after. Same great results. They are very noticeable and definitely will have people complimenting them all the time. It’s $ 70+ tip, a bit pricey from what you read they charge in china town but the price makes up for the service. Miho is really great. I didn’t find good reviews with other places or individuals on eyelash Perming.
I have long eyelashes and loved the results and my sister who has much shorter eyelashes and thinner hair also had great results. She had the tinting done with the eyelash perm.

i enjoy going to KIyora Salon because it’s very close to home, the stylists know what they’re doing, sans pretentiousness, and it’s very quiet! For the area, it’s quite reasonably priced, esp if you can use a Groupon, but that only works once. Suguru has moved back to Japan but i was given a great cut and relaxing head massage by a lovely young woman and i’m not revealing her name because she works only one day a week.

Suguru is the best! He is so sweet and friendly, pays close attention to what you want, but also offers his professional opinion which I’ve grown to trust. He takes his time and is very careful with the haircut, making sure you’re satisfied with the final product.
I’ve never had trouble making an appointment or having to wait, and I find the salon clean and pleasant. But mostly Suguru is exceptional!

I found this salon on groupon and chose it bc of great Unilocal comments. It did not disappoint. They were able to accommodate me for an appointment same day (on a Thurs). The lady at the front desk was very kind and check in was quick. Suguru did an excellent job, one of the best cuts I’ve had in years, and it turned out exactly as requested. Though I asked for 3″ off he suggested less length with layering and the results were just perfect. He did the initial cut wet, which looked great as it was, but I was impressed with how much time he took after drying it to shape my hair, and make the layers more natural looking. He was not rushed, but careful to make it look right for my face. I also very much enjoyed the scalp massage with shampoo, and chair massage. Such a nice perk!

Had a great haircut with Suguru.
I made an appointment with and was greeted by a warm, bohemian African American (what a nice surprise) lady who made me feel welcomed. The salon is on the second floor and I didn’t see any elevators in the building for those who need a little assistance.
Suguru introduced himself to me as soon as my coat was taken by the receptionist and examined my hair for the cut I requested. He then gave me an invigorating scalp massage during my shampoo then offered yet another scalp and neck massage when I was seated for the cut. Yes, please!
He gave my hair a quick cut with layers while it was wet, blew it out then texturized and shaped it some more by cutting into the hair and thinning it out when it was dried.
He is very pleasant and aimed to please through the shampoo and cut and I really liked that he did all the work himself so I didn’t have to tip shampoos girls, assistants, like some salons.
They didn’t offer tea or water like other Japanese salons but who cares for those extras when you walk or with a great hair cut?

Suguru is amazing! I love love love my haircut. I had a very blunt cut and he worked wonders and layered it beautifully — exactly how I wanted it. I have found my new stylist. Will definitely be returning.

so happy to have found this salon — via a GroupOn — where it so happens the alums of Yui Salon have migrated to. The hair talent at this salon is top grade, yet they are enormously humble making for, just like at yui, a very comfortable experience. I highly recommend this salon.

I really love the hair cut I got here, and overall it was a great experience. My hair isn’t the easiest to cut — very thick, naturally wavy and it was pretty long. Chie was my stylist, and she is a pro!
I will be reccomending Kiyora to friends, and returning for a cut again.

So I have a friend of a friend of a friend to thank for introducing all of us to Kazue! I never really thought about celeb hairstyles or haircuts; they always looked nice and it never looked «hard» to replicate, except that it is. I wanted bangs (and not the Asian bowl hair bangs, mom) but I wanted an edgy, stylish look; not too short, not too blunt, not too thin. I wanted something like Katie Holmes from back in the day when she had her short bob. I showed Kazue a picture and she gave me her recommendations. I left it to her to do her «magic» and voila, after a meticulous cut, she shows me the BEST bangs and haircut I’ve ever gotten. And after several months, it’s grown out not looking like a mane and was surprisingly, easy to manage. So I guess not all haircuts are done equally? Thanks Kazue.

Came on a Friday and one of the stylists was running 30 or more minutes late, so each customer had to wait. Not sure why no one called or texted the customers to alert them of the big delay.

Ranko was wonderful! Got my first short hair cut today and I was lucky enough to get her. She was very attentive and listened to my subscription and numerous pictures! Easy to talk with! Found my NYC Salon at last! Open till 8! Great price on groupon!

I came in for a haircut and Ranko was my stylist. She did an amazing job and I’m very happy with the results. Definitely recommend this place!

Best cut ever! Ask for Ranko. I was referred to come here from a friend as I just moved from CA and needed a new stylist. We all know how scary it can be to try a new salon.
Ranko takes her time to «game plan» the cut, makes you feel really comfortable with her suggestions, and executed perfectly.
I have thick black hair and I’m so pleased with my precision layered cut I will not need to try another stylist for a long time!

Love, love Ranko. She listens to you and works with what you want– even if you change your mind midstream. I got so hot while sitting in her chair (wasn’t sure if I was getting early onset of hot flashes or wearing a jersey wool knit long sleeve dress while it was 80 degrees outside, pretty sure it was the dress). She gave me two glasses of water and turned the air on. It’s the little things, you know. But she does give great haircuts– cuts it while it’s dry so you can see how much is really being cut off. I even had another stylist compliment me on my layers– all Ranko.

As a client should be, I’ve stayed loyal to my hairdresser in the Hudson Valley, though it is a 2hr train ride to her salon. I found Eiji Kiyora through Groupon and I’m so happy that I went for the plunge.
Ranko took a good look at my style and what would work for me. She was very friendly, but quiet and meticulous while cutting my hair. I told her how I like to style my hair and she cut it accordingly. I am very happy with my new haircut and will definitely be going back!

I came to NYC looking for, among other things, my dream salon (besides JCBC in San Francisco
of course. That will always be my first love). I wandered for years, looking for the perfect blend of Asian sensitivities, the magic touch, and above, instinctual insight into my particular hair wants. I invested in many a random Unilocal find and Lifebooker deal, to no avail. Nothing quite filled the empty space left behind by JCBC.
Then I found a $h!thole called Davide Torchio in UES (my review:
). I asked for single-​process red all-​over color, and instead they gave me orange-​to-​brown reverse-​ombré and tried to pass it off as a job well done. I heard the requisite lecture from the hair-​color-​expert girlfriend («You just can’t take shortcuts on these things!») and –deciding I definitely did not trust DT to handle color correction — cut my financial losses and looked elsewhere.
I had found Eiji a few months prior to this when Boyfriend decided to cut his own hair one night and gave himself bowl cut something major (like this:
). I’m partial to Japanese salons, and girl had done a bang-​up job of fixing up Boyfriend’s mishap — and giving his look some swag to boot — so I decided to take the chance.
Despite the frantic tears I shed over the phone while making the last-​minute appointment (the reverse-​ombré was just the cherry on top of a terrible-​week cake), the receptionist and Ranko (not boyfriend’s stylist) were kind and happy to fit me in at a time that was convenient for me. The consultation alone took 30 minutes (vs. at DT, where Raymond maybe lifted a strand before declaring he could accomplish what he obviously could not). Ranko pored over all the options available to fix my hair and to color my hair, extensively discussing with me each process. Even despite her somewhat-​lacking English and my awful Japanese, she addressed every single one of my concerns and kept all chemicals far and away from my hair until she was 110% certain of my heart’s desire. (Like seriously: I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many hair swatches ever in my life.)
We decided first to bleach out the ends of my hair to bring the color in alignment with the comparatively bright top of my head, then to dye my hair the red I had wanted the next day. I had been concerned about damage to my hair from hair coloring, so Ranko used a gentler crème bleach + hair treatment to even out my color. Honestly, I would have been happy donning this hair without the additional dye, because the hair was perfectly evened out and a pretty copper reddish color.
The next morning, I came back for the color portion. I was a little worried about the plum Ranko had mixed in to the dye (I hate that weird maroon red hair middle-​aged Korean ahjummas seem to love). But after the blow-​dry, I looked in the mirror to see the perfect shade of auburn in an EVEN, all-​over color. Even now, WEEKS after the coloring, I am still IN LOVE with my new hair color, and IN LOVE with Ranko.
BTW, Ranko? SO sweet, accommodating, and WONDERFUL with my hair. Even though it had only been a week since my last haircut, when she told me she really wanted to try cutting my hair, I was THIS close to getting my hair cut again anyway. She is hontou-​ni sugoi-​desune. (Talk about finding the shiny silver lining to a $h!tty experience.)
I cannot WAIT to come back to Ranko for a cut.

It’s one of those cozy and warm salons that totally makes you feel at ease! I got a haircut by Ran and it was amazing.
The salon is very clean and quiet. I went on a sunday and it was quite empty. The entrance is also very discreet, which only adds on to the quietness. I enjoyed it! Felt more like a relaxation period rather than the usual salon experience where adrenaline-​rush music is blasted through the speakers for the entire duration you’re there.
Ran gave me the best layers ever, and I NEVER get layers… horrid memories from too-​short layers I received from a previous stylist, which took me three years to grow out. My hair is quite thick and frizzy, but Ran somehow made it look very sleek and natural. At first I thought, oh it’s the blowout that’s doing the trick, but it’s been a month and my hair still looks amazingly sleek. Yes, haircuts do matter!
Definitely recommended!
