Supercuts

I was waiting after another two people. Out of nowhere… One of the only two people cutting hair just clocks out and leaves? I wasted an hour on my life and did not even get a haircut.

Awful. I asked that my hair be cut short on the sides and left long on top. She cut it all the same length. I told her she didn’t listen and didn’t do what I asked and I didn’t even get an apology. Horrendous. You get what you pay for.

Steven is the best! The staff here are very courteous and friendly, they make any wait worth it. The staff is polite, professional, and skilled. I have yet to get a bad haircut from this location. It is conveniently located close to Union Square, but tucked away from all the craziness. This location is always clean and well maintained. Steven is my favorite, I always get my hair cut from him.

STUPIDCUTS!!! Horrible. I got an apprentice cut and showed her exactly what I wanted. She cut off my Mohawk. The two hair parts on either side are crooked. And she nicked my ear with the clippers. Now I have to wait 6 months for this to grow in so I can get some what of a normal haircut. I am not going to get the Amber Rose cut. I cannot even go to a professional to get it recut, it will just look worse.

Highly recommended as Apanie is very gifted.
I’ve been going to Supercuts for years now as I’ve been to high and low end salons and perceive little difference between the two: it’s about the person who takes care of you. My hair has also never been a priority: due to my job I have to wear it pinned up or in a ponytail. Quality here and its EV neighbor (closed) has ranged from serviceable to excellent. Apanie gave me a cut I love (for $ 20). She took time to consider my request («much shorter…& give me cheekbones and make me look skinny»), my hair and my features and made a couple knowledgeable suggestions. We went with one that I hadn’t envisioned – less basic than my usual bob with layers – and it’s really flattering: my friend says I look 10 years younger and 10 lbs thinner (she’s a good friend) and more importantly I feel and look better. Apanie takes her time, is incredibly patient & thoughtful, maintains a very clean and organized station and is truly an artist. She is warm and friendly but not excessively chatty. I’ll request her in the future and recommend her highly.

The price is great and they take walk ins, but I always call to make sure Maxine is working before I head over. I’m a guy and Maxine has no problem taking time to use scissors on top & blend everything in instead of just buzzing my head. She is very friendly and cares that I like my cut before I leave. I’m not the only one, the last time I was there another guy walked in and asked for her right after I did. Maxine is worth the wait!

Poor service. Checking in online doesn’t do anything. Low quality haircuts, several good cutters but extremely variable. Would not recommend before any important event.

Great quality for the price. I requested Maxine due to the previous reviews and was not disappointed. I was welcomed warmly. The wait was short (I called ahead). Communication was also great over the phone. Maxine took the time to listen to and cater to my needs. Usually hair stylists cut my hair too short, Maxine had it at the perfect length and made sure to consult with me. She communicated dedication to my long-​term satisfaction in growing out my style. She was honest and communicative about what I needed to do to gain the hairstyle I wanted. This included needing to cut my dead ends, having to grow out a certain area, the time it would take to get to a certain length, and she also gave me pointers on how to use a curling iron to achieve the style I wanted. The rest of the staff were also friendly, receptive, and easy to get along with. I would consider seeing them in the future though I am pretty loyal to Maxine after this experience.

I think this was (one of) the worst haircut I’ve ever gotten in my life. I had Maxine. The previous reviewer must have had the stark opposite experience with her. Everything about this experience was pretty bad from the moment I sat down in the chair, but I won’t even go into that stuff. All I really need to talk about is the haircut itself.
My hair was pretty long after letting it grow out for six months. I showed her a picture of what my hair looked like beforehand, thinking this would make her job much easier. I don’t know what she saw in that picture, because she cut my hair nothing like it.
My normal hair length after a haircut (as shown to Maxine in the picture I had) is about 5 – 6 inches long. She instead chose to cut it to about an inch and a half in most places, though this varies because it’s not consistent throughout. She left SOME of the hair in front the length I requested as if she thought I wouldn’t notice that most of the hairs directly beside it are four inches shorter. Basically, this just left my hair looking even more ridiculous. Other parts on top are cut so short that I now have a cowlick (not something I’ve ever had with a hair style of the requested length). It’s unfortunately unfixable and something that just has to grow out, though I’m lucky if it takes even a month for this to grow out enough for it to be treatable.
I’m sure the other dressers here are totally fine, but Maxine gave me a worse haircut than the time I was 16 and let a girl who had never cut hair before use me as her guinea pig. This is not an exaggeration. Steer clear.

I hate writing bad reviews. I traveled from jersey city after booking online appointment. I arrived and another guy complained that i bumped ahead of him. Well i reserved online. What happens? Two others including him went ahead of me. I am now waiting over 40 minutes. Not pleased

Rushed, poor haircut. Will not be returning.

Please fire everyone here. Complete waste of time and 0 customer service. I’ll cut my own hair in the future and I have absolutely no experience.

Went for a haircut and was greeted by rude staff who did not care at all… Haircut was rushed with no attention to detail, style, or what I was suggesting. Don’t waste your time or money on this place!

OMG! I thought I was going to leave Supercuts with no hair! The stylist was yanking and wringing on my locks like a dish rag!
I usually go to this Supercuts because it’s conveniently close to my job. Every visit there’s different stylists. I never had an issue until today.
I told the stylist that she was pulling my hair too hard several times, and it’s always «sorry»!! After she colors my hair she almost burns my scalp with acid hot water. «Sorry, just want to make sure I get all the dye out.» She pulls my hair again. «Sorry I’m short and can’t see the other side of your head». When she combed my knots out, I can hear my hair breaking. «Sorry!!» After she trims my hair, she asked me «Do you want me to blow out your hair?» I said, «No thanks I’ll let it air dry.» God knows she would have burnt off my hair with the dryer.
I did give a small tip to her for a decent hair color and trim, but I will feel «sorry» for the next fool she gets her hands on. I won’t say I’ll never go back — as there’s usually different stylists every time I go there. But I’ll never forget her face and if I see her at my next visit, I’m doin’ a 180 and walk right out the door!!! SORRY!!!

I was extremely apprehensive to go here as my hair is long, curly and very dry. Steven gave me a good cut, exactly what I asked for. I didn’t go here to try anything new or fancy, but for a simple cut to get rid of the dead ends, and I really can’t complain with the outcome. I liked that he kept checking in with me to make sure I was ok with how much he was taking off. Not fancy or mind blowing but then again I just wanted something simple that will get me thru the next couple of months and that’s exactly what I got. Salon was clean, no wait, prices are good for Manhattan.

Please note this review is not for the chain… Not for the location… But solely for the stylist. MAXXINE. YOU ARE A GENIUS!
After years of going to fancy over priced salons in hopes of finding «my» hairdresser I decided to quit. I figured if they’re going to fuck up my hair. I rather pay 25 dollars than 75.
It was almost god sent. I can’t believe how well she listens to what you want. And instantly your vision becomes hers. She is efficient with the scissors which is comforting, if its one thing I can’t stand is when a hair stylist picks up a scissor and looks equivalent to a preschooler holding a pencil for the first time.
Contrary to popular belief. Long hair doesn’t become beautiful once you just grow it out. It needs style and volume and Maxxine gets it right every time.
If you don’t trust my opinion or review. Just go in for yourself and watch as three other stylists sit while Maxxine cuts someone’s hair… And three other people wait patiently on the couch just for her

I understand that there is a translation barrier between what the customer wants and what the stylist imagines in their head before doing their work, but my haircut is ridiculously off.
I stated that I have very curly hair before the cut, as a warning that it’ll be shorter when it dries, and I asked for a basic reshape since I had an asymmetrical cut that was growing out. I didn’t get a reshape at all in the front (where the real shape problem is), I got an exaggerated trim of the shape that I had already with a few new layers???
I also asked for a specific shape of bangs, I didn’t get that either — AND I even provided a picture and said like five times «U-​shaped/​pin-​up bangs». The woman was surprised when my bangs «jumped» on one side while she was cutting them and were too high to even fix? I told her that I have curly hair and they’re BANGS…
I currently have those vampire looking bangs because she left the front/​middle long and cut either side shorter, she just wasn’t getting it. Thank God I can pull off that style, but they’re still so choppy and layered, UGH.
I have always enjoyed Supercuts, because I don’t like when stylists get «creative» and scissor happy, but my stylist (an older lady), just didn’t listen to a word I said. I’ll definitely never return to this location.

I go to this place because my cut is simple: #1 on my entire head. If you go after 7pm on weekdays you get half off. I have been here twice and have had something negative both times.
#1 I got my standard buzz cut and was looking great. The barber was finishing up the back of my neck when she decided to _​really_​dig in. My nexk was nearly scraped raw. It burned when I touched so when I got home I had my wife look at it and there were visible parallel scratch marks that broke the skin, traveling from the base of my neck to my hairline. I was sore for a few days.
#2 I arrived at 7pm and there were 4 busy barbers, 3 waiting customers. I was set to see a movie at 8 and my cut takes about 5 minutes, so I figured I had plenty of time. I was wrong. If the barbers were a bit more efficient I would have made it, but each one took a 10 minute break between customers. at 7:45 I was next and a barber had finished her customer. Then decided to take a break and didn’t return. She was still in the building, just not cutting any hair. I had to wait until 8:05pm for the next barber to finish her customer, and finish her break before getting my cut.
I know I could call ahead to minimize the wait, but I don’t really mind it. I do mind the laziness of these barbers though. I bet that they get paid by the hour instead of by the client, so there is little incentive to speed things along. Even with the half-​off pricing post-​7pm, I am still going to look elsewhere for a place to take my simple cut.

I am always kind of nervous about chain hair spots… you never know what you are going to get and I have always heard bad things about Supercuts. So why did I go? Because I really needed a haircut, what I wanted done would be simple and I was willing to take the chance (hair will grow back, right?)
I am glad I had a good experience here. I got Maxxine as my stylist and she was a nice, honest and fun to chat with stylist.
I am usually shy, but with Maxxine I was just a chatterbox. She gave me a great haircut and I will go back to her.
It was very quiet in there, I had dropped in earlier in the day while running errands to see if I’d need an appointment, they told me no and I was seen right away. Hope Maxxine continues working there so I can get my hair cut more than 2x a year! :)
UPDATE: So I went to a high end salon for a different treatment for my hair a couple of weeks after Maxxine cut my hair… and the stylist said «whoever cut your hair did an AMAZING job! I haven’t seen a cut this perfect in a long time.»
That coming from a master stylist who charges $ 100+ for haircuts. Way to go, Maxxine!

I was so happy with my haircut here recently. I went at lunch time and there was no wait. I was taken right away, and I usually get simple-​type cuts. But even then, many places don’t do it right. How hard is it to layer? Well, the girl I got knew how to layer and framed my face so nicely. She did a great job.
I have had the best haircuts in my life at Supercuts and Great Clips and the worst at high-​priced salons. I never have coloring done, so I can’t speak to that. I also don’t have contemporary/​trendy/​experimental cuts, so I can’t speak to that.
I know it depends on the stylist you get, because I’ve had some blah experiences at these places too, but this was a great cut.
