The tacos here are really good. Prices are pretty cheap as well. I have had chicken and beef tongue. Both were pretty good. I am hoping to come back to try the other items on the menu such as the burritos and the tostadas.

I am being very generous by giving this place a 2 star rating. Last night after a long day at work my boyfriend and I decided to come here for dinner. After we ordered a pork cemita the girl told us to sit down and our food would be out. After about half an hour we noticed a couple of people who ordered after us got our food before us. Deciding to give them the benefit of the doubt we waited a couple of minutes before my boyfriend decided he was going to go up and ask where our food was. But, before he got the chance to get up and the other girl working asked us if we had ordered yet and we told her we had, she asked what we got which we took as a poor sign of communication between the employees. At this point had we not already paid for our food we would have walked out. She went back behind the counter and 2 seconds later she came out with our food. So, they had our food ready all this time and had just completely forgotten about us. She didn’t even apologize for the long wait. Because of how long we had been waiting our food was much colder than it should have been. The only reason I’m willing to give this place a 2 star review is because the cemita did taste good and the portion size was good for the price. But, it is completely unacceptable that they forgot about us. How did no one see the sandwich back there and not wonder who it was for?!

Authentic Mexican food. I usually get the Quesadilla al Mexicano(chicken) and the Flautas(both chicken and cheese). I order from here all the time and the food is typically well prepared and very tasty.

I love this place. I always order take out from here and compared to the other Mexican place around the way, El Mexicano makes their food with love. I always order a vegetarian quesadilla or burrito. The quesadilla is my favorite. Many places just out onions and some peppers in there, but here they add avocado and rice, and it gives such a soft and delicious addition to the already good food. Plus, their prices are really reasonable. Two things: 1. Their take out menu says they are open 7 days a week, but I often call them and they never pick up, only to find out that their closed. This has happened on Saturdays and Sundays. Obviously they’re not open 7 days a week, so they could update their menu and add their actual hours of operation. 2. As a nacho lover. I wish they offered nachos with cheese, beans, guacamole, and sour cream etc. They do have guacamole and chips but I haven tried that yet.

Excellent restaurant. They have fresh tasty food. My two favorite dishes are chicken quesadilla and chicken with rice and beans with hot mini tortilla wraps. I put my rice and chicken with onions in this wrap and eat them. So good. They make personalized salads as well. Not much Latin food on the Avenue so whenever you crave Mexican food you must try this restaurant. Small family owned restaurant and great service.

I live near them most of the food is cooked in THEIR home you see the owner carting it out of his big black car God only know if their home is clean and if they use gloves to cook! And all the supplies they purchase from Costco you see laid out near the garbage on the side of the building sits there before they place all in the basement that’s not so clean! A few friends reported food poisoning Just the fact that 1⁄3 of their food cooked at home not there scares me! Not to mention frozen food and stock sits with the garbage on the side!!! They are nasty rude and dirty wondering if the wife took care of the inspector cause they got an A? I don’t get it!!! BEWARE !!!

My new spot for authentic Mexican food, not to mention that the price is cheap considering the quality and amount they give. I didn’t have any expectations going in here, I just Unilocaled a Mexican Restaurant and was craving some mole enchilada. I came in and was greeted by the waitress. They were busy packing up take out and the phone just kept on ringing the whole time we were there. Still, she was very sweet and told us to have a seat. She was very accomodating and not rude at all. We got chicken mole enchilada, chicken flautas, and a chicken burrito. Boy, was I in for a very good surpirse! I was starving and my first bite really made my day. Everything was so tasty, the beans didn’t taste like they came straight from the can, the rice was very flavorful, the mole sauce on the enchilada was perfection, and the chicken was also very well seasoned. I love everything I ate in here! I will definitely be back! It is not close to my neighborhood, but seriously I would come all the way here just to have their food. El Mexicano, you had me at first bite.

Ate here two nights ago. Seriously. Get. A. Burrito. Got the steak one and had them add jalapeños. Oh my. I promise you will close your eyes and pretend you’re in Mexico. All the food is prepared fresh and to order. Prices are great and they take credit cards. They will always get my business when I want Mexican food.

Love finding this gem! walked passed many times and finally tried the tacos. I had 3 to start with and ended up ordering an additional few while dining in. the tacos take a while to prepare because they have plentiful of orders during lunch rush hour. there isn’t a formal waiter service you just kind of order and sit down til they call you or they will bring it over. the price is great as well. we also had guacamole but that was extremely spicy for my taste, but so good. they’re on seamless as well if you live close enough.

In the Chinese and Mexican community of Avenue U, in and around the Q Train station, this Mexican restaurant, stands out from anything one could get in Manhattan’s more than numbered community of pseudo– Mexican restaurants, all absent of Mexican customers. One need only go to eat where the Mexicans who live and work in the NYC area, go, to get authentic and utterly awesome food. My Chalupas was extraordinary. I asked for a lot of spice and hot pepper, and with that request, came a potpourri flavors. They have tongue too, and they can prepare it with different items. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Avenue U is an amazing neighborhood — the diversity means great traditional food. Mexican food sure is one of them. El Mexicano Restaurant opened up a few years ago and has booming business ever since. They serve so many different combinations from Mexican to American fast food. I absolutely love tacos(sorry Chipotle, but I really prefer my simple chicken and onions on a tortilla for this one) and El Mexicano knows how to serve them right. They do add a little bit of tomato, but they keep it simple with the onion and cilantro, with lime and radish slices on the side. The chicken tacos are kinda spicy(I have a low tolerance for spice), but for some it might just be the right flavor! Anyhow, it’s a heaping of chicken, which is absolutely delicious. Note that their buffalo chicken wings are also so spicy! This is really great for anyone who loves spice. The prices are good, service is fast, and food is great.

Ordered the chicken burrito and it was so delicious! It was only $ 6 and after eating half the burrito, I was stuffed! Saving the other half for dinner. So cheap and yummy! I’m so glad they do delivery. Will definitely order from here very often!

I’m such a sucker for food that taste homemade and El Mexicano was just that! I’d probably walked within 30 feet of this restaurant hundreds of times in my life, but not once did I notice it because it’s located on a residential block off of Avenue U. Most of the restaurants and markets are on Avenue U, but El Mexicano is slightly off of it and there lies the problem. I’ve been to a few of the popular Mexican restaurants in Sunset Park, but I saw the positive reviews on Unilocal for El Mexicano and just had to check it out. I walked in and you’re immediately greeted by the front counter and the bright menu at the top of the walls. To the right of the entrance is the small dining area, which is made up of about 7 – 10 tables. There’s a TV hanging from the ceiling for anyone interested in watching TV(mostly Mexican soap operas and soccer). As for the food, I ordered 1 Chicken Taco, 1 Pork Taco and a Chicken Burrito: Chicken Taco and Pork Taco — The tacos were slightly bigger from what I could remember from the Pork Slope establishments I’ve been to. They were fairly priced at $ 2.00($ 2.50 for all other tacos). The meats were real fresh and there was plenty of it to fill the taco. However, the lack of other supplemental ingredients(cilantro, onion, tomato) was noticeable. Don’t get me wrong, there was some, but just not as much as I’ve seen from other restaurants. Chicken Burrito — This burrito was MASSIVE! There was tons of rice, chicken, tomatoes, lettuce and I loved that they gave a good dollop of sour cream inside as well. This bad boy would satisfy any appetite! Warning, if you order the burrito, I’m pretty sure you don’t need to order anything else to eat. For a final footnote, the restaurant is small and quiet. I’ve never seen the restaurant crowded and don’t foresee it so seats are always available, which makes this a great walk-in restaurant.
