Fancy Cleaners and Tailors

Fancy not — Fancy Dry Cleaners (3^rd Ave) washed all the color from a pair of suede leather trousers of mine and broke many of the bootleg buttons. The un-​fancy dry cleaners took no responsibility despite many letters. It was only after suing in Civil Court of the City of New York, Small Claims Part that they repaired the damage a year later! Irving Cleaners (77 Irving Place) are better.

I can’t believe they ruined my top that I only wore once!!! WTF? They had the guts to pack it and deliver back without saying a word??? I can see patches of «bleached» areas and they charged $ 20 for a little sleeveless cotton top? I do not recommend this place.

For dry cleaning, they do a fine job (and they do it on the premise, where I don’t know, but they returned a jacket the same day for me when I was in a time crunch). they know to remove the buttons so that they don’t get damaged and the pricing was fair.
Tailoring, however, is a different story. I needed a patch to be placed on my Canada Goose Chiliwack parka since there was a hole. When I came to pick it up, I realized that the patch wasn’t stitched entirely; in other words, I could put my fingers between the patch and my jacket. I’m pretty sure the goal of it all was to seal the hole as best as I could.
I returned the jacket and was told that it would be redone. I called to see if it was done and if they could deliver. First, they told me they’d check and call me back. No call. I came in (I work long hours and usually head to Union Sq instead of 23^rd St stop for the train, and Saturdays are usually packed for me, but I found some time) to see what was up. The jacket was returned to me but the stitching again was not complete and shoddy at best — even the lady at the cash admitted it. Michael, the tailor, lamented about how my jacket was too thick (if this was an issue, point it out to me instead of fumbling around and making me waste my time). I was then told that for my troubles, my jacket would be delivered to me.
A week later, I called to check up on things, and then was told by another gentleman that delivery wasn’t possible to my area (10 minute walk from the store) because of the delivery route.
In effect, that’s it for them.

What’s with the lack of love? This is a great consistent dry cleaner. The staff are very friendly and happy to help me even if I come in seconds before they close. If there are colar stays or cuff links left on a shirt, they always come back to me when I pick up the weekly dry cleaning. I’ve had tailoring and button repair done here and never had a problem. Most of the other reviews are old. I’ve tried quite a few dry cleaners and this is the one is the best.

fancy cleaners… where fancy clothes go to die and where I go to get yelled at by an unnecessarily feisty old man. I had three dresses hemmed for 50 $ each…150 $, two weeks and two trips later one dress is hemmed properly, one is a little funked up and one is now for sale at goodwill. But the good news is they motivated me to write my first Unilocal review!

STAY AWAY!!! I had been using them for a couple of months when they lost an entire laundry bag. The manager treated me like I was lying to her and that I somehow misplaced a 15 pound bag of laundry. About a month later it turned up as they delivered it to the wrong apartment. I am very happy to get my laundry back but I will never use them again. The other dry cleaners in the area are also much cheaper!

This place is heinously overpriced and they are offensively unapologetic about their terrible quality of work. I couldnt agree more with Naoko and Renee in their reviews above. 3 one star reviews with the same cautionary tale means seriously… AVOID!

This place is terrible. Although they did the dry cleaning just fine, do not go there for tailoring – they really messed up a whole batch of pants, and for the amount of money they are charging, it is outrageous!

For as much as I use Unilocal,I’ve never written a review, but my most recent experience at Fancy Cleaners warrants a public rant.
A few weeks back, I dropped off several items, but when I returned home after picking them up, I was horrified to find that they had COMPLETELY destroyed a dress and a top. The dress was knit with lots of gold print detailing and I had had it dry cleaned before, but when I got it back, all of the detailing was gone. I didn’t realize that dry cleaning involves bleach these days. Better yet, when dry cleaning my top, they removed the chain halter detailing then stitched it back on incorrectly. After offering to fix it, they managed to make it worse. Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t drop off clothing in the hopes that it will get shoddily redesigned.
The best part is that they had specifically cited the details on my items and charged me a premium for «extra care.» I don’t necessarily expect to be compensated for the full cost of the clothing, but I do expect, at very least, a sincere apology along with reimbursement of the original dry cleaning charges. Alas, no dice.
There are at least 10 other dry cleaners within a 2 block radius of this place. Take me advice, cross the street.
