I love Sammy’s. Best dry cleaners! They know what they are doing unlike so many other dry cleaners in the city.

Excellent customer care, great staff members. I’ve tailored and dry cleaned very expensive suit and shirts at last minute. I was little skeptical because of previous comments people had made on Unilocal about Sammys. But the service and the quality is i am talking about, top knotch. Will go back, and strongly recommended.

Love Sammy’s! They are so nice and friendly and always do a good job with both my dry cleaning and wash and fold. When a stain wasn’t fully removed, they redid the dry cleaning for free, and are always expedient and can accommodate rush orders.

HORRIBLE experience with the new tailor. I had great, expensive dresses hemmed previously, and took another expensive bridesmaid dress to get hemmed only by a new tailor upon my arrival. The work is embarrassing, he did not follow my instructions, and my dress for my best friend’s wedding is ruined. This tailor hemmed the dress at different lengths and the seam is bunched together where the machine clearly caught. When taking in the sides of the dress around the zipper, he never adjusted the zipper so now it sticks out like a sore thumb and has to be completely redone… if it can be by someone else. I now have to go to another tailor to pay him to fix it and am extremely disappointed. I will be expecting a full refund on this.

Not happy with the service here. I had a dress altered here and they took it in a bit too much. When I came back to ask them to take it out again, they claimed that I must have gone to another alterations place because it wasn’t marked with the chalk they used (obviously not true since I haven’t used another tailor).
Very displeased customer. Will find another place to handle my clothes.

Truly poor experience with Sammy’s, which I have been dealing with for months without resolution. This is, admittedly, a long post… hold on tight.
After switching to Sammy’s last year, I mentioned to them that shirts I had sent out for launder/​press were coming back ironed poorly and with ripples in the fabric. They advised that I should have all the shirts dry cleaned instead to avoid these problems. I thought this was a bit ridiculous, as the shirts at issue were relatively inexpensive cotton button-​downs that did not call for dry cleaning, and I had not experienced similar laundering issues in the past. Still, Sammy’s dry cleaning prices were good and they offered me a percentage discount (either 10% or 20%) off dry cleaning thereafter, so I agreed to have all shirts dry cleaned from that point onward.
Shortly thereafter, I noticed that several shirts I had sent out were wearing out (i.e., damaged) at the same area of the collar. I checked two other shirts I had recently sent out and found the same. Upon checking the receipts, I realized that Sammy’s had laundered these shirts instead of dry cleaning them. Not only did all the shirt tags say «DRY CLEAN ONLY» but, again, Sammy’s had specifically urged me to dry clean all shirts and even gave me a discount to do so.
I took the shirts at issue (which ranged in price from approximately $ 125 to $ 200 each) to Sammy’s to complain. They apologized for laundering the shirts before telling me that the damage was normal wear and tear, i.e., they were not responsible. I responded that this was absurd; I have numerous other shirts that had not been cleaned by Sammy’s, some significantly older and cleaned many more times than the 4 at issue, but only these 4 that Sammy’s had mistakenly laundered had this damage. Johnny then explained to me that their machinery couldn’t possibly have caused the problem and advised that I get a second opinion from other dry cleaners. I spoke with 3 other cleaners, each of which told me that laundering machinery could indeed have been the cause. Not surprisingly, Sammy’s dismissed this for a variety of reasons and continued to deny responsibility. I was then told that I could speak with Roy, who is apparently in a more senior position.
I’ll note here that, before this issue arose, I took a quilt to Sammy’s for dry cleaning that came back with various markings on it, and Sammy’s told me that this happened because of «moisture in the air of my apartment» that interacted with the dry cleaning solvents. Again, the Sammy’s «wasn’t responsible.» I got second opinions on this from several other cleaners and the manufacturer of the quilt, none of which had ever heard of this «moisture in the air» theory.
Roy proved very difficult to get in touch with for weeks. When I finally reached him, I received the same spiel denying responsibility. I reminded him that I had gotten the second opinions as requested, explained again that it simply didn’t make sense that only these shirts that Sammy’s mistakenly laundered were damaged in this manner, and said that I expected appropriate compensation (after all, replacing the 4 shirts would have cost me approximately $ 700). In an attempt to be reasonable, I suggested compensation in the amount of $ 200 (the cost of 4 significantly less expensive Brooks Brothers shirts). I was told that $ 200 wasn’t doable for Sammy’s either and, at some point during these exchanges, I was offered $ 80 (a total nonstarter) or a dry cleaning credit. I responded that neither offer was reasonable and even asked Roy why he thought I would possibly want to continue using their services given my experience thus far.
Realizing that we weren’t approaching a resolution, I mentioned to Roy that I had not yet taken the problem to Unilocal,Angie’s List, etc., that I had been extremely patient with their lack of responsiveness, and that I was shocked they couldn’t offer anything more appropriate. Roy then said that, if I posted something on line, THEY MIGHT HAVE TO TAKE ME TO COURT (an increasingly popular threat from businesses when customers post negative reviews about them). I then informed Roy that I am an attorney with significant experience in defamation law and that his (empty) threat was truly offensive in light of my experience thus far. He quickly tried to smooth things over.
To wrap this up, Roy told me that he lacked the authority to offer anything else, and I asked to be put in touch with whatever higher power could make such decisions. The management proved even more difficult to get in touch with, and failed to respond to numerous voicemails and texts from me over the subsequent months. The last text I got was in February 2015, in which they claimed the shirts had come to them damaged and that I should take them to small claims court, but that I should accept $ 50 from them to «avoid unnecessary waste time.»
If you choose Sammy’s, good luck.

Every shirt I put there had its buttons damaged by their machines. Though they accepted to replace all of them, they put different ones. I changed cleaner.

Sammys is my favorite and now, only tailor that I will use in NYC. The customer is important to them and they work with you on prices when applicable.
I ripped the entire back pocket and partial leg of my brand new jeans and they were able to hide the rip entirely by adding a new seam. I couldn’t be more impressed and happier.
They deliver and pickup for free in their custom dry clean bags.

I came here to have a sweater that I love tailored since it was too big. When I got home and finally tried it on, it was still too big where I specifically asked them to take it in. Also, the price was rather steep — $ 35, which was probably stupid on my part not to ask before but I didn’t assume it would be so expensive.

Sammy’s is hands down the best cleaners and tailor I’ve found in NYC. they’re also incredibly nice and professional people which makes you feel good about giving them your business. Their team is very honest and will sometimes give you discounts when they can.
I won’t be going anywhere else. They’re the real deal. Very very happy with everything they’ve done for me.

I had yet to find a reliable dry cleaner in my neighborhood until I found Sammy’s. Since I was a first-​time customer, I was given a 10% off discount on my 3 silk shirts and dress, which was amazing! The owners of this place are wonderful, and will ask you how your day was and will chat and joke while they ring you up, which is rare for New York. My clothes were ready next day and the service was high quality. I will definitely be back!

I only went to Sammy’s once, but I was very happy with it!
I needed a suit dry cleaned very quickly for a meeting the next day. Service was quick and high quality. The man working there was very kind and friendly. Sammy’s opens very early in the morning, so it is great for dropping off and picking stuff up before work.

Very friendly service! Had chewing gum on one of my favorite dresses and Sam explained me how to get it out myself when I called him. I chose to bring in the dress anyways and he managed to get all the gum out of it. Highly recommend this drycleaner!

I’m retracting the glowing review I wrote last February, 2013. It seems that Sammy’s does a great job as long as Roy is riding shotgun on everything. But when he gets busy things start to fall apart.
My clothes started getting delivered later than originally promised – always with profuse apologies. And the shirts that I raved about started coming back with less than heavy starch in them. The final straw for me was when my clothes were entirely lost. After two weeks of searching for them, Roy and I were about to settle for the cost of my loss. But then they miraculously appeared.
The problem with dry cleaners like Sammy is that they don’t do anything on their own premises – everything is sent out. They are just drop-​off storefronts. And I suspect it is very easy for them to lose track of items – and of course, who is watching over the way your clothes are being handled?
It’s been about ten months now since I’ve used Sammy Dry Cleaners. I became so disappointed. The sad truth is, I have yet to find a really good dry cleaner in the Gramercy neighborhood. And I’ve been to at least seven in the past two years or so. Maybe I’m just too hard to please. Maybe such a place just doesn’t exist anymore. Times have changed.

Sammy’s is outstanding. The customer service is exceptional and customized. Sammy’s delivers my orders next day to the Gramercy Park Hotel, and is able to meet my last minute service needs when in a pinch.
I have utilized their wash and fold and dry cleaning services. Both are high quality and I never fear they will jeopardize the integrity of my fine apparel. Sweaters are hung with care, dress shirts are flawlessly pressed, and my clothes are neatly folded and arranged.
No areas of improvement to report. Great find for the Gramercy /​Flatiron neighborhood.

My family has begun using Sammy for their dry cleaning, after cycling through many different area services. I am very impressed by Sammy, and Roy in particular, for their attention to detail and prompt, friendly attitude. Shirts were dropped off and returned the next day, just through normal service! Additionally, they were perfectly pressed. I haven’t used them for more complicated items yet, but between the way my father speaks of the place, it sounds like it is a great business.

The experience was top-​notch. Order was taken promptly, friendly attitude up front, very quick turn-​around and delivery. This is now my go-​to place for all dry-​cleaning from here on out.

Amazing, the only cleaner that I want to go to even though I’ve now moved to a different zipcode. They handle tailoring my clothes and do everything with an attention to detail and care that I appreciate. I’ve also brought a few tough projects to them, they accept the challenge and have done a great job.

This is THE dry cleaner/​tailor/​fluff and fold in the Gramercy park/​Sty-​Town/​Murray Hill area! Roy is the friendliest shop owner in all 5 boroughs and he takes immense pride in his work.
While they don’t do everything on site they are still able to have everything ready in a few days most times, next day. This is a small shop run by very friendly people that will win you over after the first conversation!
