I came across this relatively unassuming unpretentious hole in the wall, in search of chicken soup. I needed to feed some to my hungry companion who longed for some good home cooking. Little did I know that they had the same exact Jamaican pumpkin chicken soup that my friend remembered from back home. The soup was exactly as his mom used to make. I had a delicious, reasonably priced serving of beef stew, myself. I say give it a try.

I normally don’t judge a place on one small item, but I had no choice, I was in the mood for a chicken patty and they were open late so I decided to go in. They had tons of food out and everything looked great. I figured, if the rest of their food looks that good, the patties must be great. I got a chicken patty $ 1.50. The first red flag was when I was asked if I wanted it «heated up». Wut. I walked outside, took the patty out, and I was so mad. It was ICECOLD. And it had the words“Tower Isle” stamped into the patty. It was a FROZENPATTY. How could you serve frozen patties at a West Indian establishment? I’m disgusted.

I did a summer gig across the street a few years back and this was our go to place for takeout, the people are very nice and some of the food is outstanding. The salt fish and ackee breakfast is very good an I am told the jerk chicken is the some of the best on Flatbush… I some times will take the 41 bus down there and pick some up for my sister. Be warned that this is not a safe area after dark, if you want to be a «food tourist» go on a weekend in the daytime
