FlowCycle

So I’ve never written a review before but I took my first class here today and felt AC really deserves a shout out. I’ve started going to spin classes more often in the past two months and my go to places so far are flywheel and peloton via class pass. Discovered flow cycle on class pass and decided to give it a try because they advertise their bikes as different. The bikes are definitely different– they swerve! And there’s a big screen with a road in font of you and cyclists going along for the ride. Reminded me of the arcade and those motorcycle games with the screen in front of you. Time flew by and before I knew it class was over! (I’m usually looking at the clock to see much longer until I’m done) AC has such high positive energy and remembers everyone’s names. I can only hope to have half the energ she has! The studio is tiny and in a business building so no showers. There are only about 15? Bikes so classes are kept small. Everyone left the class in smiles. I know AC will do well– she has such positive energy and I love her small touches to make up for the small place– cold towels, snacks, lemon water. The bikes took a bit getting used to but you definitely work way harder than you do with other bikes. I could feel the extra burn in my legs after and you definitely use your core. The bikes have sneaker cages or clip locks and I plan to bring my own spin shoes next time– I have a feeling it helps on these bikes to be clipped in.
My concern is AC’s popularity and the popularity of the classes will grow quick and soon make it hard to get a spot in class. I want to keep this place a secret!

AC’s energy is through the roof. She keeps you motivated and inspired the entire time. She remembered my name after hearing it once and has remembered me every time I’ve come in since. The music selection is incredible and goes to the pace of the class perfectly. The video screen of bicyclists in nature are beautiful and transports you there. AC is an awesome instructor, remembered my name after hearing it once. When she saw me slowing down, she personally would encourage me and it was awesome.
The bikes are unlike others I’ve used. They move with you (as other reviewers have said), and I didn’t think my core would be sore the next day… although it’s been awhile since I’ve done core work.
The previous day I also worked my upper body, so I really felt the whole body engaged with the moving handles.
I’ve been here twice now and will definitely be a regular.

This is not your ordinary spin class. You can purge everything you think you know about indoor cycling. AC’s class is its own category of fitness instruction! The 45 minutes you spend here is an experience — from the moment you walk in to when you leave. First of all, you are welcomed, not just «checked in». There are about a dozen or so bikes, so you are not squeezed into a tight space with 50 other riders. There are no dumbbells to distract you with an arm workout in the middle of your ride. You will work your core on these bikes, and you will burn out your legs as you pedal faster than you thought you could go. And you’ll find yourself smiling when you remember that this is a lot of fun!
But the best part of this experience is the energy and enthusiasm — from AC and from within yourself as you work hard, challenge yourself, and feel the rewards. She will make sure that you push hard and never give up. I am perfectly happy to drag my hungover self to class on a Sunday morning to sweat it out because I know I am going to have a great time and feel amazing afterward!

I’ve done plenty of spin classes at the big boys (Soul, Flywheel, Peloton, etc.) as well as local places. FlowCycle is a unique and interesting spin (see what I did there?) on regular cycling classes given the bike moves with you so you can more fully engage your core (and it more closely mimics what it’s like to be on a real bike). There’s also a big screen with a simulator video of bikers riding through beautiful landscapes, which is a nice change from the NYC views we’re used to.
AC is super high energy, positive, passionate, and a great instructor who is very attentive and knows what she’s doing. (plus she’s in amazing shape which is pretty inspiring) She thinks about all the little details, like infused water, snacks, hot AND cold towels, and even seat covers to make the ride more comfortable. There aren’t more than 15 or so bikes, so the classes are really personalized, and there’s no artificial room temperature raising like they do at places like Soul that just make you «feel» like you worked hard. You just work hard. It takes a class or 2 to adjust to the different kind of bike, but once you get the hang of it, it’s a lot of fun.
The location is right off the Rector Street R stop, strangely in an office building, but the space is clean, inviting, and comfortable (only con is that there aren’t any showers). Highly recommend if you want a great, personalized, and energized unique spin workout!

The class and the instructor AC are just amazing. I’ve never been to a more motivating class ever! I was a bit concerned about going because it looks intense and was a bit worried I wouldn’t keep up… but I was totally wrong. If you are a bad ass cyclist or just someone who wants to get into your swimsuit… OR if you just want to be motive and feel f’in great after every class, you should be here.
It’s clear that AC cares about what she is doing and she really makes a solid effort to get to know her students.
In eBay terms, A+++++ would go and work out again.

I’ve been to a handful of spin studios (peloton, flywheel, etc) and Flowcycle was a unique experience. The instructor is with you through every minute of the ride and because of how intimate the class is (10 or so people) it was much more personal. Her name is AC… she’s in phenomenal shape and makes you excited to be a part of what’s going on. On top of all that, the bikes actually sway side to side imitating the movement of a real bicycle. You also are looking at a projector of cyclists on a trail (ours was Aspen, CO). Totally different experience, I’ll be back without a doubt. GEAR UP!

the instructor, AC, is amazing!!! Her level of energy is contagious and really makes you work your ass off. The bikes move left-​right giving it a really unique challenge by engaging your core. AC puts a personalized touch to the class by getting to know her students. Her passion and patience is inspiring!
AC brings the experience to another level by offering free protein bars which are complimented by the best brewed water with lemon and mint. AC is the reason I went from just a groupon package to purchasing a classpass.
Looking forward to the next class. It’s always packed too so come a few minutes early to get acquainted

Great sweat + sore for a few days after + highly motivating instructor = solid workout experience. It’s a tiny studio and awkwardly located within an office complex, but the concept had me intrigued. Not quite Soul Cycle, but what it lacks in brand identity and amenities it makes up for in intimacy of setting and group size. There’s space to change, lemon/​mint water, chilled towels to cool off, and tiny Clif bars to take on the way out. Very thoughtful! I’d go back.

Great class. Love that it is unique from every other spin class. I really felt like I was outdoors with the road bike ride simulator/​video. AC is pretty bad ass and very motivating! She went out of her way to make me feel very welcome because it was my first time.
Would definitely recommend and plan on bringing my fiancé here to try out!

This class is totally different from other spin classes in the city — which has advantages and disadvantages.
Pros: small class. The bike moves with you so you end up using your full body, especially your core. The instructor is very sweet and provides water and snack bars after the class.
Cons: no shower. In the beginning the bike is quite painful, especially riding in positions two and three; I’m sure this gets better over time.

Updated after attending a multitude of other spinning studios, which made me burn way more calories than this workout, unfortunately.

I love Flow Cycle! I’ve never had a spin class go by so quickly. The bike moves with you, which allows you to sweat even harder. At the same time, peddling along to a beautiful ride makes time fly by. I’ve been to a bunch of spin classes where there is only intervals of sprinting and climbing, but AC’s class is unique in that you are constantly switching up your movement to match with the designated ride.

This class is just like cycling … Only that there is a visual screen and the bikes move which takes core engagment to the next level.
AC (the instructor) is amazing ! She is so energetic & and really pushes you to go harder. She has such a great style about her.
Coming from Inwood, this place is very far for me but I will make the treck just to come here. It was very unique … AND you get fresh mint water and protein bars if youd for free.
I will def be back.

Went here today for their 6:15am class and I found them through ClassPass.
Building is 2 Rector, nice lobby and you have to sign in with ID so definitely allot an extra few minutes for that. Studio is on the 9^th floor, take a right when you get off the elevators.
Smaller studio but nice, there are cubbies did not see any lockers. But because of the lobby I did not see any concern about leaving my bag unattended. Also bring sneakers for your ride, the bikes have the clip-​ins on one side and straps for regular shoes. I do not think they offer/​rent spin shoes, but I also did not ask.
Class itself was great, AC (I believe that was her name but the music was a bit load so I could be off) was our teacher and she was the perfect amount of encouraging/​excited to wake us all up and get going. The class had maybe 10 bikes total and there were 6 of us so it did not feel overwhelming like other large spin classes can feel.
This was also my first encounter with a stationary bike that moved with you. Definitely a whole other level of abdominal incorporation. There is also a computer on the bike that tracks your distance & RPM, it’s how she helps guid you how hard/​fast/​etc you should be going. The class also had a giant projector and our trail brought us through Maine so that was a nice mini escape from the city. She bounced back and forth between following the music exactly and following the pre-​set route on the screen so mentally it was a bit challenging to plan which way she was going with it when you think it’s going to be the other way.
After class she offered refreshing lemon/​mint detox water and had an array of power bars to take with you. That was great since I definitely did not eat enough prior to the class. Also next time I may bring two water bottles into class with me!
I would definitely go again.
