I was really excited about this place because it’s by the same people who did Sleep No More, which was amazing. It’s located upstairs in an open outside area. Although it doesn’t feel too open since it’s mostly covered(probably for rainy days). The mixed drinks are really interesting. I got the Simply Wicked(or something along those lines). It was really good. Roasted Carrots & Kale(B) It was pretty good. I asked for no yogurt mixed in so it might have tasted different with it. I thought it was too oily and lacking some flavor. It was alright. Grilled octopus(A) Pretty good. It was soft and not chewy like a lot of places. The sauce was very flavorful and the right amount of salty. The potatoes were perfectly cooked but it was on the oily side too. The food was good but not $ 20 a dish good. Especially since the dishes were appetizer size. I wouldn’t come back for the food. Maybe the drinks. However if you don’t reserve a table you have to stand and drink the whole time. I love Sleep No More though, and a great place to go after the show.

I tried booking a corporate lunch at the rooftop and had an awful experience with Ghana Elshabazz, who was completely incompetent. She kept trying to sell me on a 2K buyout, when I told her no about 4 or 5 times. We then went back and forth about a different option without the buyout. She sent a menu with zero flexibility but we booked anyway, and she said she’d send me a contract. Waited, and waited but didn’t receive an email. I then called her, she called back and had no clue who I was, even though we had spoken 4 or 5 times. She took about 10 minutes to find our email chain, and then said THEYDIDNTDOLUNCH. And could only do 5:30PM, even though we had been talking about lunch the entire time. I don’t think I’ve ever dealt with anyone with as little common sense. I now need to find a place for 20 people within 7 days. Awful experience.

This is long over due but what an awesome place! I went on a Saturday night to meet a few friends and the place was packed(but not to the point that we were unable to get a drink). Anyhow after a few cocktails we wanted to snack and there was a wait list both downstairs and upstairs. A little ridiculous but I’m not surprised since it’s one of the nicest rooftop bars I’ve been seen in NY. Anyhow it got to the point where I was determined to eat and we ended up inviting ourselves to sit at a table reserved for a birthday party(since they were able to reserve a table for a party of 8 or more people). Despite being slightly obnoxious and eventually having to move because the rest of the party came, the floor manger Collin was amazing and soooo accommodating. He made sure we were able to eat everything we ordered and that we were taken care of. Such great customer service and to top it all off the food was great! I’ll definitely be back 100% and if you’ve never been I highly recommend it.

Came here yesterday for a coworkers bday. Wish I would have came here early because by 11pm on a Saturday it had reached max capacity. Even though I was the fifth person on line I had to wait 45 mins till they could let more ppl in. The rooftop part of this place was very nice. I loved the décor and the lighting. My least favorite part of the night were the drinks I order 2 different ones that were on the list($ 17 a pop) and didn’t enjoy either one. I also wish they would have played music upstairs even though on our way out we walked passed the heath where we were able to get some dancing on. Overall it was a nice, chill spot I would love to return to the restaurant part of the rooftop.

Awesome spot in NYC. Rooftop bar is great– beautiful atmosphere and surrounding. To be honest– we were running late for the show, so I didn’t get to enjoy more than a glass of wine(hence, the 4 stars). But I can’t wait to go back.

Gallow green is definitely my favorite rooftop bar in the city so far! I went on a Tuesday after work and it was packed. It is gorgeous and covered in greenery and flora, making for a great contrast against the city landscape. They have great creative signature cocktails that are refreshing in the heat. My only complaint would be that the seating is first come, first served, and it will only get tougher to find spots here to settle into as the weather cooperates with us!

This place is eh, I mean you wait in line to go to a rooftop and drink mediocre cocktails for $ 17 dollars. The cocktails tasted no more grander than a $ 12 dollar cocktail and it wasn’t more special either. There are crazy and sloppy people walking around and the crowd is just weird and doesn’t make any sense.

Cute rooftop bar. Lots of greenery and openness. The drinks are okay. Just your standard wine and beer. But the atmosphere makes the biggest difference and allows you to enjoy yourself. This place can get very packed though. You can stand around the railing area or just wait around a table and swoop in when the people at the table leave. Getting drinks is a bit annoying. The lines are constantly moving and therefore short but for some reason you have to wait long to order. We definitely want to go back and try eating dinner here while enjoying the nice atmosphere.

The only reason this place doesn’t have 5 stars is because of the quality of the service. The unlimited brunch was amazing but the drinks were overpriced and just okay. Beware this place is extremely bureaucratic! We were told they didn’t have seating for 5 and we got seated anyway after learning that if you sit where there aren’t table settings and be persistent you don’t need reservations.

Very nice environment, very bad customer service. When I called before I came to the place, they told me they have a bright rule of no reservation for party less than 8. Yet when I was waiting for the table, the hostess sat 4 people done in a reserved table. I asked a waiter why, the hostess(to whom I’m not even talking to) replied in a very bad attitude saying«We don’t have to explain anything to you.» LOL Later on I figured out from the waiter that these 4 are actually band members, but that hostess’s attitude was unseen and unheard of. This is a very beautiful place, but there are plenty better rooftop bars/restaurants in NYC. It’s a shame to have such hostess and such shitty attitude towards customers.

What a gorgeous garden oasis on a rooftop. Yes, please. On an evening in May you really can’t ask for a better spot to soak in some relaxation and down some luscious libations. We were attending Sleep No More and received an email about Gallow Green, which is under the umbrella of Sleep No More so we decided to check it out beforehand and we were happy we did. There are two sides, the restaurant and the lounge. You can only order drinks on the lounge side which I was a little bummed cause I wanted to nosh on something small but as soon as I got my cocktail and relaxed, life was great. The fun named cocktails had a lofty price of $ 17 but I couldn’t even be mad because of the ambiance. I loved the detail of the design down to the gardening tools on the wall(albeit creepy) in the bathrooms. You have to walk up to the bar for drinks, no servers on the lounge side. From looking at the menus it looks like the cocktails do change often. The paloma was lovely and the charmed life w/gin was refreshing. If you want a relaxing and lovely setting, def check this place out. Reservations suggested but we were aok getting there shortly after they opened on a Tuesday for the bar area.

I almost want to keep this place a secret… but I will tell you about it anyway. Gallow Green is a lush and beautiful rooftop that is very casual and relaxed after work and then becomes a bit more night clubby as the night goes on. I’d recommend coming here early after work, during the week if you can so you have a better chance of getting a table. If you don’t want dinner, but just cocktails, you can just hang out at the bar or try to find seating in the bar area. They don’t really take reservations, they just put you on the«priority list» — meaning you can get upstairs, but are not guaranteed seating. And by the way, when the hostess takes down your number, watch your phone like a hawk, because they will call you(not text you), so if you miss the call cuz it’s loud, they give away your table. We had to wait 45 minutes for a table — it’s all communal seating at really long tables with uncomfortable bench seating that moves when anyone on it moves. Service was stand-offish by the bartender and luke warm from our waiter. Cocktails are good, maybe a bit light on the alcohol. They’re not cheap either. In terms of food, I thought the appetizers were great, but the main entrees were a miss. The tuna crudo was light and refreshing — served with avocado slices and sesame seeds, I really loved it. The charred octopus was also really yummy as was the squash blossom. The mains were not that great. The mini lobster rolls kind of tasted like imitation lobster instead of the real thing. The roasted porchetta(which isn’t exactly what was served) was overcooked, smelled rancid and I couldn’t eat more than two bites of it. Mind you everything on the menu is $ 20+ dollars, even the small apps. The reason for the five stars is sheer ambiance, so romantic and dreamy — no other place like it in NYC. Come for the view and cocktails. They also do a reserved ticket you can purchase for an all-inclusive brunch — $ 45, which does guarantee you a seat. I will have to come back and check out their brunch.

It was a beautiful garden on top of the home of Sleep No More. I came here after dinner at The Heath. The cocktails are mostly different from each bar in the building. The drinks are a bit pricey, but delicious and refreshing. The décor is beautiful, and had such a fresh, spring feel. The bartenders were very nice as well. I wish they were open for a tad longer, as we got there just before last call. Nonetheless, it was still a good experience.

Beautiful, earthy rooftop bar in Chelsea. Came here on opening night so they had a limited menu and a relatively small crowd. The drinks are standard prices-around $ 15 a cocktail. With the small menu I asked the waitress to make me something fruity and I liked what she came up with. There’s plenty of seating scattered throughout the roof and a large area where you can casually stand. If you go downstairs there’s another bar area/dance floor where a live band plays. Overall a great option in Chelsea for a more relaxed, chill night out with a group of friends.

You’re paying for the ambience. It’s a great rooftop bar, with a beautiful aesthetic and interesting views. Perfect for date night in the Spring/Summer/Fall. Things are overpriced, but hey, that’s what you got to do sometimes if you want a nice, ambient, not-crowded venue in Manhattan.

I love this place! I can’t wait to come back during the warmer months and enjoy the open roof. From the bouncer at the door, to the elevator ride up, and the walk through the restaurant to get to the Gallow Green everything was enchanting! The man in the elevator was so informative, enthusiastic, and really entertaining. I had to walk by the restaurant and they had live music and a large stage area. Once you get to the Gallow Green you’re already so happy that this is just the cherry on top. It has a great forest, nature, camping feel to it with all the décor and even the bartender fit the part with her lumber jack outfit. There’s beds set up around the different rooms as well as large comfy chairs and tables for you to use. And even though it’s winter, there is still outside seating next to the fire place. It was pretty steady with people all night, but not very packed which made it very enjoyable. I wish it wasn’t in the middle of no where, cause it was a long walk from the train, but honestly that’s probably what makes this place so great is that it’s not in the center of the city.

This review is both for the brunch outside during the summer time AND the lodge in the winter. I absolutely love the Gallow Green brunch and atmosphere in the summer. Its an outdoor garden with very tasty drinks and a brunch buffet. There isn’t a ton of variety but what they do have is well thought out and good. It is nice for a group of friends to get together and enjoy a nice meal in a beautiful atmosphere. The Lodge is something very different yet still cool. I went there two weekends ago with some friends. It took a few minutes to find seats for the 6 of us but someone vacated the bunk beds so we took them over pretty quickly. It is very small up there. If they added some heat lamps outside you could actually utilize this space. The fire on the other side had even less seating so I think that should be expanded for more people next year. I was disappointed that there wasn’t any music playing so that was weird for a bar. The drinks were very overpriced — $ 15 for mulled wine is unnecessary — but the concept is unique and worth checking out at least once. They kicked us out at 1 am. I didn’t realize they closed so early but they had music at The Heath so we could have continued the night if we wanted. I love everything about the McKittrick hotel — next I have to check out Sleep No More!

This used to be my favorite bottomless brunch spot for special occasions. When the roof is open, is is beautiful with the greenery and live band playing. The food has been the same every time I went, but I never get tired of it. Gallow Greene used to offer unlimited drinks, but I believe they’ve stopped that which is why I haven’t been back in a while.

This is a review for The Lodge, not the regular rooftop bar. This is my second time stopping by the lodge, and it was just as lovely as the first time. I’d say a little better since were weren’t kicked out for a special event this time around. First off, you have to be patient when ordering your drink. It’s just a tiny little window all the way in the back of the room in the corner. From what I can see, its only two people servicing everyone. You’ll fall in love with the attention to detail when it comes to décor and atmosphere. It really does feel like you’re in the living room of a cabin in Maine. There’s a lovely fireplace, vintage furniture, bunk beds etc. I think there;s just enough seating considering the size of room, but this place seems to draw large groups, so you can easily find yourself standing around for a while. Luckily each time I’ve come, I only had a few friends, so we managed to snag seats not too long after getting our drinks. A big draw for me when I come here is the mulled wine, which called witches brew or something like that. They also offer cider and some other drinks but I can’t really recall. I look forward to returning again and again. I’m curious about the brunch, it looks fun.

Disclaimer — I was last here in the summer. I love gallow green. I have been here multiple times and I am never disappointed. Their small dishes for share are so delicious and perfectly made. My all time favorite — the fried green tomatoes! Their punch bowls for share are expensive and small, but still fun even if it’s just for the experience/ambience! Perfect to start a great night out!

Dinner and brunch at Gallow Green are both delicious, albeit slightly overpriced. As many have said before, the setting is absolutely beautiful. It’s like a secret garden right in the middle of Manhattan. Brunch in the summertime atop the McKittrick is quite a treat. The restaurant uses fresh, seasonal ingredients. The brunch with live music is very fun, but $ 45 is a lot for only 2 mimosas instead of unlimited drinks. As far as brunch dishes go, you get lots of choices including scrambled eggs, smoked salmon, cold fried chicken, fruit salad, breakfast pastries, haricot verts, salads, and more. Love the choices and you’ll definitely overstuff yourself, so plan to spend the rest of your day in a horizontal position.

What I’ve Had: Cocktail — The Green Grass. Food — Twice Fried Fries, American Wagyu Mini Burgers Would I go back?: Yes Story: Came here on a hot July summer day to celebrate a close friends birthday atop the roof. Great cocktails and food was decent. Surprised it wasn’t more busy after work but if they can keep this place a secret and perhaps the fact its father west might be keeping after work crowds away. Regardless if im in the area this is a great place for a date or just hangout with friends for a nice cocktail, great view and ambiance. Feels like you’re in a secret garden just better — theres alcohol, you’re in nyc, and on a roof.

I had high hopes for this place until I came here for my friends birthday. It was all fun and games when we arrived at 5 in the evening while it was still sunny and warm outside, until… Drinks: They have specialty drinks that cost about $ 17. I wanted to try one because their descriptions looked really interesting… boy was I wrong. I ordered a pretty pink drink that came in a mini bottle and colored straw, and its presentation itself was wonderful. I took a sip and immediately thought they accidentally gave me Everclear by mistake. I could totally be over exaggerating this, but I kid you not, it tasted like straight vodka. Personally I like my drinks to be strong, but not too strong that I feel like I’m sipping a shot. I ended up not finishing the drink, and decided to get a regular mojito instead. Now, that was delicious and half the price. Atmosphere: It was very pretty in the daytime. I felt like I was a character in Alice in Wonderland or walking through a secret garden. They had picnic-like tables for people who were brunching, and 2 seater tables for people who came for the bar. The sky started getting darker as the sun was setting, and so did the bar area where they have no lights by the way. There was no music playing, so I couldn’t even dance. The staff was kind, and the place was kind of small. Overall, GOOD place for a day event or maybe even brunch.

I was here last night with a local who said it is usually more packed on a Saturday night. Given the holiday weekend, it was still pretty packed at the bar but easy to find a spot for two people to sit. This is definitely the most eclectic rooftop bar that I have visited. It is something out of a fairytale with all the greenery and interesting drink names. The crowd is diverse and definitely on the young side. There were a large number of people who looked like they were in their early to mid 20s. Though the ambiance was cool, service could have been better. Not sure if it is always that slow or that they were just short staffed that night. On the way out, we headed down some stairs and came across another bar. There was a pretty large dance floor and good music. Not sure the name of this place but pretty cool. Bar service slow and annoying… there was a two drink minimum and drinks were not cheap.

I was sooo ready to give this place 4.5 stars. But between the Bartender, Crowd, and Music; it just doesn’t live up to the number. You can easily be fooled by the Amazing ambiance first walking in; the bright green vine covered pergola(s), christmas tea lights, and tiki bar styled bar… it just seems so dreamy. But then, you WAKEUP! As soon as its time to place your drink order with the Racist bartender, whom immediately when seeing you — cuts his eyes, turns his back to you: looking so displeased to have to actually serve you: turns back around and asks you what you would like, it almost made me want to turn around and leave Gallow Green. But I wouldn’t give him that satisfaction, because afterall, that’s EXACTLY what he wanted us to do. So instead, we ordered a Manderley and Maker’s Mark STRAIGHTUPLOL :-) $ 30(their cocktails are $ 17 a pop). The Manderley, which consists of dark rum, lime juice, cilantro leaves, red peppers — was unique and refreshing. I really enjoyed all the flavors. It’s mild and sneaks up on you. However, I doubt I will ever return to the Gallow Green. There are tons of rooftop and courtyard bars in the city that have the same ambiance and atmosphere, w/bench and barstool seating, but with way more down to earth people. Whom are both rich and working class. The Yuppies are taking over NYC, please send them back to the Hamptons, they are ruining our city with their snobbery. And perhaps then, I may consider making a return. But at 20 bucks a drink, I would say its caters to the pretentious.

Gallow Green instantly became one of my favorite spots in Manhattan! The McKittrick Hotel serves up a well done blended mix of low key meets posh meets rooftop perfection. The mix of different size tables depending on how large your group is, to the overall vibe is all on point. The space is uniquely presented with wood flooring, greenery everywhere you turn, dim lighting and their rustic bars. The drink list is beyond interesting and you can’t go wrong with the Sleep no more signature drink or the Foreign Affair. The music is also great and not too loud so you can actually talk. The only negatives are the bathroom(small and not particularly clean) and the temperature. We came here during the week on a hot night, probably in the 80’s, and while there was a breeze on the streets it was stifling HOT on the roof! I am pretty sure everyone was stuck to their seats, as was my hair to my face. They have an air system because it would randomly flash on from time to time then off again. People were fanning themselves, which isn’t a great thing. Some fans would be an improvement for a summer night :)

Definitely worth a try for the curious and so-inclined. Cutting to the chase, the ENVIRONMENT is excellent, the FOOD and MUSIC are good, the SERVICE is limited. Break it down further below. Outdoor splendor on the rooftop of sectional, ivy covered pods of tables is the reason people come here. Great design and concept. The brunch is a buffet so, for $ 35 per person we can eat as much as we like(you’re right if you smell a BUT coming next) but, you will stand in a line of people for about 20 minutes to fill your plate with food. If you want to go back for round two, it means another 20 minutes on your feet. We did enjoy the scrambled eggs, avocado toast, bacon, bread pudding and mimosa that is included with the prix fixe brunch. And the Bloody Mary(menu of three kinds) that are not included. I like the tequila version!!! Live music is a plus and I don’t mind paying for the ambiance. It was a modern, ethnic jazz sound. In the end, the mandatory gratuity charge shackled my buzz. The server brought us three drinks. I recognized there are others who need to get in on the action but it just seemed excessive given the low level of direct involvement. We were constantly entertained by the large group of women who were part of a bridal hen gathering. It was so «Sex and the City» and they dominated the scene with their shrill and cackle. Special call-out to the manager who made sure that our botched reservation PROBABLYMYFAULT was honored on a morning where the scene was at capacity.

We came here as a party of 4 for their weekend brunch. Online timed(2-hour time slots) reservations and full payment(including tax/tip) are required. For a total of $ 45 per person, we enjoyed an all-you-can-eat brunch buffet on their garden rooftop. We lined up in front of the McKittrick Hotel and were ushered into a large and dark elevator about the size of a room. Our host was very welcoming and shared stories with us about the hotel. The rooftop garden is BEAUTIFUL. It’s somewhat enclosed on the top, which made dining very relaxing on a sunny summer day. The live music is fun and interesting as they sing about food. Our favorites were the fried chicken with the peppered honey glaze, roasted zucchini, and smoked salmon. Dessert was high quality as well with an assortment of fruits and pastries. Our brunch tickets also come with 1 mimosa each and unlimited soda/juice. When we were done eating, there was no need to ask for the bill. We simply walked down the stairs and were accompanied down a smaller elevator by a friendly staff member who politely asked if we enjoyed our meal. Their service here is really from beginning to end.

My favorite rooftop bar in all on Manhattan. So overpriced, and such a scene, and so far from the subway — but its just MAGICAL up there. Covered in ivy, plants and other greenery, you feel like you are in garden. A 1920s theme adds to the intrigue, with bellhops escorting you up the elevator and old timey telephone booths at the entrance to the bar. If you can, grab a table in the old boxcars which are especially cool. I’m usually morally opposed to paying 17 bucks for a cocktail but this place is really worth the splurge

A nice rooftop bar and beer garden where you will extremely thankful to get off the cramped and exceptionally slow elevator. This area of the city seems to attract a good number of European hostel stayers, and the crowd here seemed to reflect it on a Friday night. Make sure you are in the right line for the elevator as the bar and restaurant for the hotel are next to each other and have different lines. It took forever to get up, but the open space was refreshing and nice. You don’t get high enough to have an exceptional view of the city, but you do get fresh air and a nice green space. The bar is pretty expansive though the line for drinks moves a bit slow as people are on their own time from the hotel. The beer menu was ok, but nothing spectacular.

The Gallow Green is a very beautiful rooftop restaurant/bar. It’s on the Mcttrick Hotel, the same that hosts the show Sleep No More. The environment is cool; there’s a train wagon and a nice garden. Even the staff is dressed accordingly. Came here on a Saturday afternoon, and it wasn’t too crowded. The service is good. The price is not so good. I had beer, because the cocktails were too expensive. This is a good place for a date or if you just want to have a drink if you’re nearby.

I love this rooftop brunch spot! I think it’s my favorite brunch spot in NYC. We made reservations for 11:45am on a Sunday. You have to prepay ~$ 45 per person to reserve spots. The place was packed! They take you up an elevator and you walk another set of stairs to get to the rooftop. Awesome view of NYC! The food was delicious! I loved the lox, Kale, and guac on bread bites. The bacon was delicious as well. They also give you a complimentary glass of mimosa. My only issue was that it was super hot and humid so sitting outside got sweaty really fast so watch out for the weather. Great spot to get brunch with some friends and catch up! We had a wonderful time! Live music too! Quaint ambiance, loved it!

This review is of the seasonal Lodge at Gallow Green, which popped up winter of 2014⁄2015. The space was incredibly sexy — different from regular Gallow Green, which I find romantic. I loved the interactive aspect — you were really made to feel that you had stumbled upon someone’s lodge. There were books, journals, pictures, maps, a rocking chair and fur rug in front of a fireplace… and of course the bunk beds! My friends and I hunkered down on the bottom bunks one evening. There was an outdoor space with a live fireplace in the middle on one side, and on the other side, a walkway to a tent where a canoe was hung up. You could get into the canoe if you wanted, and the tent was decorated with«polar bear» skins that you could pick up and use as blankets. So cool! Of course the cocktails were lovely — everything was designed for the middle of winter, including the beer selection. I hope The Lodge becomes a recurring pop-up!

This place is beautiful. Drinks are priced a little high but that is expected for a rooftop lounge. It’s quite scenic with great views of the city. The lounge is set up as a garden. It’s an organic feel inside the Concrete Jungle. The set up alone makes it worth while. It does get packed and the lines to get drinks are way too long for my liking. But I would definitely come back
