My god, I felt compelled to write this review after the night we had with the manager. I gotta say that the pizza is actually really good, but this is a one-star review because the manager is that much of a nightmare. I assume the person serving us was the manager because of the haughty nature of himself. What turned out to be a small dispute of request to have a wine glass with our wine because a extended night of bill arguing and physical threat by the employee. After our experience I went to the desk to discuss the matter, and the person literally came from behind the register counter to walk around it and come face to face with me for no reason other than intimidation, I guess. Just kind of rude, and doing a real disservice to the ownership and chefs.

We both loved our salads and the service was fantastic. Cheesecake was a weird texture and the chocolate chip cookie was a little overcooked, but overall delicious food. I want to come back and try some pizza and pasta entrees!

This review is for the service, not the food. We were a party of three, and there were four tables, with two seats each, available when we arrived late at night(10PM). Though the tables were adjacent to one another, the hostess told us to wait, explaining that it would be wasteful to offer us two tables when we would only use three of the four chairs. We were asked to wait for a booth to open up though, oddly, a couple of the booths were occupied by parties of two. We stood waiting by the hostess for 45 minutes, who did not change her mind, before we left. In those 45 minutes, no new customers arrived and no booths opened up. Terrible touch!

Went here on a date…(oooooh a daaaaate) and left very happy. Not just because I sat across a cute sailor who did my laundry earlier that week, but because everything was delicious and our waiter was wonderful. If you think about it, this place is pretty f ing close to heaven. They pour wine to the brim, and the pizza has very very thin dough. You can drink the mommy juice and eat without any guilt. AT A PIZZAPLACE. We had the Tres Fuegos and the Parma. Loved both. Tres Fuegos was actually spicy and i am usually immune to those things. I’ll be coming back to try the others. guilt. free.

Best pizza and salads ever. I have ordered this pizza before for delivery but just recently went into the restaurant to eat. All I can say is WOW-The salad I had was amazing and let’s talk about some stellar customer service! All the ingredients were super fresh and so tasty! I had a quinoa salad… yummy…hummus was delicious with little pieces of toasted bread. Everyone from the host to our waitress was so super nice and attentive. My friend she thought dropped his fork(he dripped a knife) and she basically ran over with a new fork. The atmosphere is so nice-It is one place in NYC where I didn’t feel like I was seated on top of other people who were also dining. I’ll be back and you should visit this wonderful place for a pie(The ones I have ordered in the past were more than delicious) or salad.

The food is fantastic and the service is usually pretty good. I did have really bad service recently. The girl just couldn’t get it together. And she only had 5 tables. I wanted to move tables and even though I had full hands the waitress asked me to move our waters over to the new table. Seriously? I said ummmmmmmmmmmm. My hands are full? She just wanted to hand out at the bar and talk to her friends.

Seriously the best pizza I have ever had! Heat crispy thin crust with gooey cheesy toppings. Great liquor and wine prizes. Great bartender who gave great recommendations. Also in one of my favorite locations surrounded by other great eateries. I will be back!

Great food, nice atmosphere. Spinach salad might be the best salad I have ever had. Their super thin crust pizza is also amazing! :)

Love that thin crust! The unique pizza recipes are all tempting but my faves are the Chickpotle and Spicy Shrimp… I like the sauces and bright herbal flavors of those the most. You might want to split a large ½ and ½ pizza because you get more pizza than you would from two personal pizzas for the same price.

I was recommended this place by my tattoo artist– he told me it was the best place to get pizza in NY. It was the first New York pizza I’d ever tasted, and ohman was it worth it. The place is clean with a great cozy atmosphere, and the staff was friendly and helpful. Now, as someone who made brick oven pizza for three years, I’m very picky about pizza. I hate tomato sauce, but it wasn’t the case here. The crust was thin and crispy, but not like a cracker. Despite all my toppings,(I think I had three? Four?) I was able to pick it up. The bottom didn’t get soggy at all. Everything was amazing. No complaints here.

I’ve been to this place multiple times and I find the people working are a bit entitled. Not the friendliest staff and the pizza is not worth the price. I ordered the pizza with caramelized onions & sausage. Asked them to add garlic to it and never did. The onions were cut into thick chewy chunks and were practically raw. I wouldn’t recommend.

I had a shroomtown pizza here and the crust is unlike any other pizza place I’ve been to in the last five years. Almost paper thin, crispy, and the ingredients fresh. It doesn’t really get better than this where pizza is concerned, unless you like a little more fluff in your crust. I’ll have to try a pie with some meat or different veggies the next time…

We came here on a Friday night and were able to be seated right away. Staff are friendly and the pizzas delicious. I don’t like mushrooms but I love the Shroomtown pizza! It’s a nice crowd of people: college kids, young professionals, after happy hour-ers(us), and families. The pizza comes out in a fair time for an awesome, fresh thin-crust pizza and the servings are good. I only give it a 4⁄5 because our waiter was a bit slow at realizing we were ready to pay and then picking up the check but I’ll definitely come back.

This is easily the best pizza I’ve had in New York. Having said that, I’m a big fan of their thin, crispy base but if you like the more Neapolitan style you may not be as big a fan. In any case, the flavour is great, the toppings are generous and we were left very satisfied. We came for lunch on a Saturday and there was no wait for a table, which was a bonus. The restaurant itself is charming and comfortable. The service was good. The major downside is I don’t live in the East Village so this isn’t my pizza local! Looking forward to returning though. I would give them a solid four and a half stars.

Really fantastic thin-crust pizza bar/restaraunt. Ambiance is great, servers are great, food is delicious and reasonably priced. I think I have tried just about every pizza on the menu and have yet to stand corrected as this being my first choice for sit-down and economical thin crust pizza. Great place for a intimate date, or a small to medium sized group. They don’t take reservations, but being a little off the beaten path on Ave B i’ve never had a problem with getting a table. The only other place in the city I have found to be better is Adrienne’s on stone street, but the experiences are very different — this being more casual, laid back and cozy, while Adrienne’s is a bit more contemporary.

In a land of plentiful pizza, it’s hard to distinguish between them. But Gruppo sticks out like a whore in a monastery. Delicious thin crust pizza. We had the mushroom and plain. The mushroom was incredibly flavorful. Overall loved the pizza. You guys rock!

One of the best thin crust pizzas I have ever tried. Micro thin crust that wasn’t burnt or dry. Heading back as soon as we land in New York.

Gruppo’s website is «gruppothincrust.com», and they are not lying. I like all pizza, I don’t discriminate, but this was a tad too thin for me. Certain bites were so crunchy it felt like I was eating a cracker. BUT, I still give Gruppo a solid 3.5 stars rounded up to 4 for the delicious flavor of the pizza. Everyone raves about the Shroomtown pizza, so we tried it and were not disappointed. The super thin crust carries a heavy load of mushrooms and of course, truffle oil. Normally my beef with mushroom pizza is that it becomes too rich and creamy and almost too oily with just mushrooms and truffle oil, but this one felt more balanced because they also included marinara sauce so there’s some nice acidity there as well. We also had the kale and manchego salad, which was a nice opener to the dish. All in all, a very solid and unique pizza choice in the east village, as long as you like super thin crust!

We stopped by on a Saturday afternoon looking for a quick bite to eat. There were only two waiters for the entire restaurant when we arrived, and they were completely overwhelmed. It took us about 30min to get our pizza, however the host did say ahead of time that they were running behind so we knew what to expect. The waiters were doing their best, I blame the manager for understaffing their restaurant in the middle of a lunch rush. The pizza is incredible. Super thin crust, delicious melty cheese and really great pepperoni. The personal sizes are fairly small, especially with the thin crust, but the full size is great for 2 – 3 people if you’re not starving. They weren’t serving pasta and their coffee machine was broken, so a bit disappointed overall with the restaurant. If you are looking for a great place to grab a thin crust slice than look no further, but if you’re expecting a full fledged Italian restaurant you need to look somewhere else. If they could manage the restaurant a bit better they would have a real winner.

I cry every time I eat pizza now that I know Gruppo is out there… so far away from me. Out of all the over-hyped pizza joints recommended to me during my visit to New York, this place was the ABSOLUTEBEST. I feel like it’s a local favorite because when we got there, no tourists were to be seen anywhere. There were no lines, no crazy waits like a lot of other places typically recommended to someone in the city for the first time. The place was empty besides us and a few business men in the back. I ordered the meat lovers and loved loved loved it. It was so thin. So crunchy. So flavorful. So gooooood. I’m from the other side of the country where many places try to imitate New York style pizza and fail so hard. Gruppo will always have a special place in my heart.

Gruppo is a very solid thin crust pizza spot, but the best thing about it is the fact that you can reasonably expect to get a walk-in table with no wait on a Friday night(unheard of at the trendier, also-awesome newcomer in the neighborhood, GG’s). The pizzas are great, the beer selection is actually pretty interesting — they have Singlecut and Gun Hill on tap, which is somewhat surprising — and the service is prompt and polite.

I’ll start with the positive: When I used to live in the East Village Gruppo was my go-to place to order pizza from. Better than average by far, always delicious. Keeping that in mind, and the fact that I love lasagna, I recently got the lasagna lunch special to see if it was as good as the pizza. I normally don’t order lasagna from places known mainly for pizza, but they had lots of other pasta and other dishes too, seemed like there was potential. Sadly, it was the most unspectacular lasagna I have ever eaten. I had a few bites before giving up and just eating the rest of my(good) salad and bread. The pasta in the lasagna was overdone and mushy, the sauce was too sweet, and it was just overall really bland — no spice, no texture, no love. I didn’t want to waste the large chunk leftover. I wondered what the chances were that someone would offer me some marijauna, I would smoke it, and then become hungry enough to eat it. Carrying it back to the train I actually hoped a homeless person would approach me so I could give it to them. No such luck. When I got home, I offered it to my neighbor. He didn’t want it. So now it sits in my fridge, haunting me. Maybe tonight I’ll use it to bait the rat trap outside… Overall, Gruppo is awesome — just stick with the pizza. Though the lasagna might be kid friendly, who knows?

Take it for what it is. Don’t like thin crust? Then don’t come to a thin crust place and say that it’s overcooked. This is a fairly niche style of pizza, and if you dont like it, good thing there’s a thicker crust for you on every street corner for the next 10 miles in any direction. This isn’t one of those pizza places where you’re going to feel gross after eating it. Nothing is greasy, and nothing is heavy(even the meaty pizzas). All of the ingredients on these pizzas have a purpose, and I haven’t had a pizza that wasn’t amazing from here. Their salads are mind blowing, and I rarely if ever say that about salad. You can tell that whomever made the menu REALLY cares about flavor and texture. Like their pizzas, every single ingredient has a purpose and brings something to the dish. The only thing is that this place could have more people working there. They were extremely nice and helpful, but I came around dinner time on a sunday and could tell that they were a bit understaffed. Regardless, this is my favorite pizza in NYC. Is it historic, traditional, popular? No, but if you’re going to like something just because it is old or the first then I assume you only ride in Model T Fords?

I’m a Neapolitan Style Pizza Fan. This is a great twist on the Neapolitan style. The crust is slightly thinner yet much more crisp. Due to this it can support a little more weight than a traditional coal fired slice can. My wife and I love wine and they have some great specials. You can get a free pie with a full price bottle and they also offer half price wine during happy hour. Their ingredients are fresh and delicious. I have one complaint. I love, love, love a roasted red pepper and sausage pizza. However they used a sweet sausage instead of the hot sausage on the pizza I ordered. It’s as much my fault as theirs and they offered to comp me when I complained. However, the half price wine was flowing, the servers were extremely personable and helpful, and the atmosphere was cool so I called it square. I made sure to triple specify hot sausage on my pizza next time and it was off the chain… and the hook. This place is the best!

Oh Wow! Great thin crust pizza! I tried the shroomtown and the meat lovers. Shroomtown with marinaded mushrooms and truffle oil, amazing! The meat lovers sausage and pepperoni were delicious. The balance of sauce, cheese, and toppings was perfect. The house salad was also surprisingly good, marinaded mushrooms, olives, and a great vinaigrette.

Shroom town all the way, all the time. This is my go to type of pizza and something I recommend to everyone. The first time I discovered it, I fell in love with truffle oil and mushrooms. I had to tell everyone and show everyone and oh boy, did I eat a lot of pizza. And the best part about this is that… it’s thin! I get to eat more! Clearly, I’m a fat ass. This is the best crunchy mushroom snack(I consider this a snack).

Daily Happy hour special 3:30 — 6:30pm free 16″ plain pizza with order of: pitcher of beer OR bottle of wine! Mondays until 11pm! Um awesome ?!! Need I say more? Delicious pizza and pasta. Shroomtown pizza is my favorite! Vezzo used to be my favorite spot for thin-crusted pizza… Now that I’ve discovered Gruppo, what’s Vezzo? Location wise and the HH special makes this my go-to spot I love the quinoa and avocado salad. Meat Lasagna was delicious. It is very dark in there at night. Definitely romantic setting… If you don’t want to see your date’s face that is.

I came here around 2pm on a Sunday, needing something to eat but wanting to avoid the brunch crowd. Gruppo was pleasantly quiet and almost empty– I couldn’t help but come inside. I ordered the personal shroomtown pizza and a pear bellini. The pizza was delicious. As others have said, the crust is almost literally paper thin. So thin that it’s un-foldable, it snaps like a potato chip. Despite this, it holds the ample amount of mushrooms they put on it quite well. And they really don’t skimp. The mushrooms are super fresh too, no canned nonsense. There’s nothing like a fresh mushroom pie, and this place does it right. I do wish they went heavier on the sauce, but given how thin the crust is I’m not sure how well that would work. They’ve just recently started doing brunch, so I think they’re still developing their menu and whatnot. They do have a pie/2 drink deal, and brunchy pizzas, one with eggs, so it’s worth keeping an eye on.

I LOVE the thin crust pizza at Gruppo, which has become a staple during my visits to NYC. I’ve been coming to Gruppo for at least the past 5 years, and the quality continues to be just as good as my first visit though the space has been upgraded, so there is much more room. No reservations are taken but the space caters well to large groups. If you like mushrooms and truffle oil and just down right deliciousness, then you need to get the Shroomtown which is likely one of the most popular pizzas. The perfectly crisp crust and savory, meaty mushrooms are a delight in every bite. The meat lovers and meatball were also quite good and satisfying.

L’une des meilleures pizzerias que je connaisse ! Le gérant est discret et souriant, le service impeccable, les pizzas à tomber(celle aux champignon et huile truffée est ma préférée). Impossible de né pas tester ce lieu quand on vient à NYC !
