went last night, what terrible service… such a shame since the food is good I’m not going back anymore, had to ask for every single step of the normal dining experience to happen, others were offered outdoor seating, I was not, had to ask to place orders, for water, for refills, for everything, talked to 5 different waiters because no one was fully covering us… just terrible

I have never had such boring and tasteless shrimp tempura until I came here. I love shrimp tempura but these literally is only cucumber with fried shrimp wrapped in a rice roll. No avocado. It also came with a sauce that was spicy and I was not informed would be included. Definitely not worth $ 7.50. I’ve had cheaper and taste much better. The Kamikazi roll is pretty good. Spicy tuna with crunches and fish eggs on top. I like this one it’s more flavorful.

This is my first time eating here but the food is not up to how high the prices are. The specialty rolls are really small and the food is really really salty. The miso soup came out with just broth and no tofu or seaweed as advertised on the menu. I do not recommend this place at all. Way overpriced for the quality of food served! Really disappointed.

Being going here for years, and have never been disappointed. Great, fresh sushi, inventive rolls, and an efficient staff! A bit small and overcrowded at times, making me prefer their Times Square location, but perfect for when you’re uptown!

I have been going to Haru for a couple years now and I can’t believe it has such bad reviews! I thought the sushi was just as good as some of the more posh and trendy places like Sushi Seki. The fish is fresh and of good quality. The service is excellent. Some of the special rolls are a bit pricy but pretty delicious. Other than that prices are reasonable and the portions are generous. The food is fresh and execution is great. Some of the sauces are incredible. My absolutely favorite is the spider roll — a ton of delicious soft shell crab inside. The tuna tartare appetizer is really good and quite a generous portion! Both dishes come with an amazing sauce. Eel and avocado roll is a personal fave and it is done well here, it is juicy and full. For the vegetarians out there — they have delicious veggie sushi! I love the filling and I often order these even though I eat fish too! This is one of my go to sushi places. I haven’t tried the hot entrees as I am a sushi/sashimi girl, but the tempura is delicious.

What’s with all these bad reviews? I love this place! The sushi is really good quality and they have a great selection of drinks. It’s hard to find sushi places of this level. If you do come here(which I totally recommend!), make sure you get the taco appetizer. It’s so good!

Stopped in for lunch with a friend. The décor was comfortable and updated. We opted for the shishito peppers and edamame as appetizers. The edamame were your typical fare and were well seasons and not overcooked. I like that the peppers were flashed fried and about 3−4″ which made them more substantial then other places. They did need more salt however. I also had a miso soup which was good but not great. I chose the Kiss of Fire roll which was tuna and crunch on the outside, topped with tobiko and jalapeño and spicy tuna and avocado on the inside. It was a decent size and had enough spice for my tastes. My fiend went with the Perfect Fantasy which was avocado-wrapped shrimp tempura and asparagus dressed with spicy mayo. Service was a bit inattentive as they initially forgot my soup and when they asked if we were ready for the rolls we said ‘no’ but they came out anyway.

Haru is probably the best spot I’ve found to have better than average sushi in NYC for a reasonable price. The fish isn’t the best but it is still good and the rest of the menu is really good. The salads and dressings are great and the appetizers(king crab dumplings) are also really good. If you’re looking for top notch sushi go elsewhere — but for those nights when you don’t want to take out a small loan for dinner, Haru is a solid choice.

Should be zero stars. All fish pre-sliced into sloppy choppy pieces. Tasteless frozen junk. Go anyplace else.

Good sushi for mostly reasonable prices, relative to most places in the city. I don’t find Haru overly exciting, and it’s not a place I would tell an out-of-towner to go, but as a local, it’s a decent place to have as a dinner option when you want sushi but don’t want to spend a lot. Also, Haru’s birthday coupon is a staple of my year — if you register in their system, you get $ 20 off for one night during your birthday month. As with everything else to do with Haru, it’s not the most exciting thing, but I’m glad it’s there.

Was great before the renovation, and nicer after. Service is excellent and the staff is friendly. This is the best sushi in the neighborhood, and the nicest place to eat it. I’ve done takeout as well, and never been disappointed. I mostly stick with the sushi — can’t speak to the rest.

Great renovation and they have updated their menu. Their edamame dumplings in mushroom broth with asparagus and scallion is my favorite thing on the menu. They had removed it from the ues location and kept it at 19th and park. So glad they put it back on the ues menu. Its unique and flavorful and my kids love it. Sushi is always fresh! Service as well is up to par.

Stopped in for dinner the other day and was seated immediately. We and ordered the Chicken Katsu and let me say the portion was huge and it was delicious. However the Rainbow roll could’ve been better.

Was between a 3 and a 4 star review on Haru, but decided to round up. Ambiance is absolutely 5 stars, and honestly our service was great. Then again, I went pretty late on a Sunday night. The restaurant was empty, so my boyfriend and I were seated right away. We ordered the hot chili garlic shrimp as an appetizer which was SO good that I might order it as my main dish next time. I really like that they offer sushi entrée plates– basically plates with pre-picked out rolls on them. We split the Samurai plate– spicy tuna, yellowtail jalapeño, and crunchy spicy salmon. Spicy tuna and crunchy salmon were delicious but I wasn’t crazy about yellowtail jalapeño. I’d agree that the sushi isn’t crazy fresh, but it was tasty and pretty cheap.

Food was sooo good! Great atmosphere and the service was good. 4 stars because for a Thursday night the food could have come out faster.

What the other folks are saying about the service and employee morale is true. I used to go there at least once a week but after they let go of some of their better people and after too many lackluster meals I decided to call it quits. They had two locations across the street from each other but now there’s just one so the place appears to be tanking. Look elsewhere.

I had to add another star to my review of Haru. After not coming here for many years, I figured I would give it another shot. My experience was better than last time but things could still be improved. We had the sushi/sashimi for 2 and a Wasabi Roll. All the fish was very fresh and tasty. We had mochi ice cream for dessert(green tea, red bean & mango). All 3 were very good. Where Haru fell short was the service. Our waiter was very pleasant but super slow. Our cocktails, entrée, dessert and check took forever and a day to arrive. I would come back but not when I am starving or need to be somewhere after my meal.

I’ve been to Haru quite a few times. I don’t think the sushi is the BEST I’ve had, but it’s good and very consistent. They also have some interesting rolls– I really like the Strawberry Fin Roll. It has mango, jalepeno, and fresh strawberries. I also love the preserved lemon in the Yuga roll. So fresh clean and interesting tasting. The haru wasabi roll is also good. Tip: Sign up with your birthday online and receive $ 20 off in your birthday month. They also have a happy hour.

While this is a great date night spot(I’ve actually gone on two separate equally as awkward first dates here) I wasn’t completely sold on the Haru experience. The space itself is beautiful but the service is alright — it just seems like everyone is runnin around SO busy that they forget your drink order or spend too much time between interactions. Again, think first date experience, and you’ll understand that the frequent table visits to check in are necessary. They do have some great specials — watermelon roll was interesting and the dumplings were tasty. Maybe I’ll give it a-go again, or try one of the ten other sushi places on the UES. Wompwomp.

«A Ping-Pong match between Eastern and Western» What used to dominate both corners on the east side of 76th and 3rd… this«mediocre cross-street sisterhood» has now streamlined itself into a «over achieving only child». Haru delivers a well organized menu that caters to the easy going sushi enthusiast. The food is easy to navigate and the service is ridiculously speedy. Specialty cocktails are worth a go but inconsistent in taste. Be sure to check out their happy hour. Drink and sushi specials that are perfect for that post-work gathering or an early«cheap date». Warmer weather gives your al fresco seating options, but be warned the sidewalk fills up quick.

The sushi was not fresh. The spicy tuna roll was made with ground tuna. It was also overpriced for what you got. Would not recommend.

I would definitely avoid. Heard through the grapevine they treat employees very poorly and it certainly shows in the lack of decent service and outrageous wait time for food. Was pretty disappointed considering I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, but in NYC, if enough of your reviews say the same negative things it may be time for mgmt to get their heads out of the sand and make necessary changes. So many better sushi options in the neighborhood.

Went for Restaurant Week. Food was decent, but the service was TERRIBLE. Ignoring a review about the long wait, we went right after going to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and arrived at 9 pm. We put in our order and the appetizers came on time. But the main course took 30 minutes to come and only after we asked about the status of our meal. The waiter didn’t seem to be aware that we were waiting so long for the main course. I saw various guests come in after us, eat their food, and leave, yet we still didn’t get the next dishes. The staff was even starting to clean and close half the restaurant! When we finally got our 2nd courses, I saw another waiter talking to a sushi chef, it appeared to me that they stopped preparing my dish ½ way, putting our entire meal on hold, but then forgot to finish. My friend’s sushi was warm, as if it was sitting out there for a while. The dessert took another 10 minutes to come out too even though it was just mochi ice cream, most likely from a box, and whipped cream. Altogether we were at the restaurant for 2 hours even though it seemed like a slow night(just 3 – 4 other tables). One party that came in after us didn’t get their meal for a while after ordering, and left when they saw the staff cleaning up because, honestly, who feels comfortable to see that a restaurant is closing up and the food hasn’t arrived? Will not come here again. I’ve been to a different Haru around Midtown before. While the service was better, the sushi was warm. I think this chain is overrated — best to eat sushi somewhere else.

food was good. i was really pissed off at the service. i asked the waiter twice for water. during the 10 minutes in between i saw him serve water, tea and sodas to people who were seated after me. i think one of the other servers noticed that i was annoyed and brought me water. tevs, yo. i’ll go somewhere else for sushi if the service is better.

The rolls were ok, but not good enough to deal with the ordeal of getting them delivered. The predicted delivery time was about 30 — 45 minutes, but my food arrived close to 1.5 hour after I placed my order. What is worse is that I spent the last 30 minutes of that time trying to get through to an actual person at Haru. The one time someone picked up she said«wait a second» after I told her why I called and put me on hold. After a few minutes of listening to their annoying advertising, I gave up. So yes, I’m in the market for another order-in sushi place in the Upper East Side /midtown East areas.

I am pretty disappointed by this place’s service. When I called to order, the person on the other end was patronizing, because I was asking questions that were, to her, obvious. I ended up going to the actual venue with a date to sit down and eat. The food was not bad, but, after over twenty minutes of waiting(just for two pieces of salmon and spicy tuna), I had to ask the waiter where my food was. He walked across the venue, where my plate had been sitting for at least five minutes, and brought it over to me. He told me that no one told him whose plate that was. I am not coming back here. That is just bad, lazy service. On a final note, they need to turn the heat down or dim the lights. It was like a boiler room in there.

Mark my words this my last time eating or ordering from here ever again. Ordered lunch for delivery fish was absolutely not fresh– salmon was fleshy and had the membranes everywhere making it impossible to eat. Spicy tuna tasted frozen. Never again ever. Save yourself and go to sushi seki instead waste of money and time
