Whiskey Wednesday!!! My boyfriend and I come here every Wednesday for 2 – 1 whiskeys — no exclusions, even the good stuff… all. night. long. The bartender, Ode, is always super sweet and has great recommendations. She plays great music(although maybe the bar should spring for premium so it’s not interrupted by ads), and even though the crowd is a bit of a mixed bag sometimes I always have a great time. Definitely recommended as a solid mid-week hang.

I have never experienced such foul behavior by a local business/bartender in my life, especially in this neighborhood! Not sure what her name was, but she was an older woman with short curly hair, average build, with a nasty attitude. About a week ago, a few friends and I came to Highbury pub after hanging at bar chord, which is literally 2 doors down, but because she didn’t «like» my friends, which seemed to be because of a few words that were exchanged between my Bestfriend and the bartender herself, she refused to serve me a beer after mine had spilled which I was going to pay for regardless(I was going on my 3rd beer). On top of that, she was so drunk!!! I understand bartenders like to have a little fun and get loose themselves but to be drunk to the point where you start shouting at customers saying the most oblivious things and giving lip is extremely absurd and unprofessional. She was so rude and crude! What do I have to do w my friends? I have a separate bill. Are they paying my drinks? No. And as tipsy as I was, I tried to reason with her. She just kept shouting at me her problems with my friends and I, at a point, just simply walked away as she kept blabbing on. Screw the beer! Clearly this woman was off her charts! She seriously ruined our night. I don’t think I’ll ever go, at least while she’s there. Won’t recommend the place, that’s for sure. I probably should have made it a bigger deal but at that hour(3am), who wants to?

Right across the street from 773 lounge, this bar I prefer to that because of the décor. Long wooden countertop, candles, the atmosphere is more upscale. We had a few drinks here too; the beers are a bit expensive, and there isn’t a lot of loudness, with a nice relaxed vibe that’s good for catching up with friends. Good for a few drinks, but overall it’s an alright spot.

Walked in with a friend recently, asked for 2 La Chouffe’s. Bartender, «Yeah, well, I’m gonna have to see some ID». We thought, whoa, that was a pretty rude way to ask, but sure — here ya go. Tender took about 5 minutes looking at our ID’s, scanning them, looking for any reason not to let us stay. Little did we know… she was trying to do us a favor. She came back with ID’s in hand, and brought us our drinks. Then… we looked around us. Two crackheads in the corner, a couple of dogfood lovers in a dark corner on the couch, loud/annoying noises from the arcade, and just a weird crowd overall. My friend and I had to quickly finish up and get out of there… what a S@#$-show. We’ve given this place many tries… way too many. It’s a shame that they have nice beer on tap, because we won’t EVER be coming back to drink it.

Great little neighborhood bar. Everyone seems to know everyone else and you never know what fun little troop will show up. The bar tenders are very nice and make sure that you are having a good time. There is no live music, but that’s okay if you really want to sit and talk in a relaxed environment without a loud speaker in your ear. Sports are on if you are into that sort of thing, but there is always a good crew of people who are friendly and happy to chit chat or leave you alone. depending on what you want. Lots of restaurants that deliver near by and the bar also has a small menu, which is also pretty damn good.

I was unsure of the place when I first walked in. The bartender kinda gave me the fifth degree as to why I was there but it was bc of my sweatshirt and we became friends very quickly. As usual being a female alone in a bar I got the usual attention from guys sitting next to me but they were rude and didn’t buy me any drinks, they were more interested in the rugby game on. I ordered a fireball and ginger ale, which was watered down and a fireball shot which was warm. But after a few drinks I expected a huge tab. 2 fireball shots(warm) 2 fireball/ginger ale 1 double fireball/ginger ale 1 Guinness(tasted watered down) Total bill — $ 35 I would go here again but next time ask they ice the fireball shots and make my drinks a double so it doesn’t taste like water and maybe send back the Guinness.

Except for the part where they turned off the sound on a women’s World Cup soccer game in which the US was playing so they could play a BASKETBALL game — in a SOCCER bar — this place is passably fine. But just knowing that never would have happened in a million years for a men’s World Cup game makes the Guinness taste a little sour to me.

Came to this pathetic bar last night. Walked in to a horrible atmosphere. One customer in the whole place. No music and super quiet. The person I was with and I ordered one drink each. The bartender approached us and we got the feel she was wasted. She said our total would be 12 dollars so we put 12 dollars on the counter, planning to tip her when we leave because we were planning to get more than one drink. As soon as she saw the 12 dollars on the counter she walked over to the other customer and said«I told them it was 12 and there’s only 12 on the counter» talking literally crazy. I couldn’t relax for one minute. She came over to us a few minutes later asking us if we want shots and vodka. I said no thank you. She was really talking like a crazy person, and me the not smartest person asked her if she was drunk. I just couldn’t believe what I was seeing. You would think she’s not on her job how she was acting. She again walked over to the other customer and called me a crazy bitch. I’m 25 years old and been to a bunch of bars in my life. Never did I witness something like that. And then she thinks she’s getting a tip? She’s lucky I didn’t spit in her face. Thank gd the man I was with wasn’t feeling good or else he would have took over. My body was literally shaking as I left from how nervous she made me. Not what you expect when you go out for a drink. This place is beyond pathetic and this woman should be sober while she bartends. And looks wise it looks like a dump. She was white with an accent, very thin, with short brown hair. Stay the hell away

Beer selection is great. Has a fussball board… Wednesday night is whiskey night. Buy any whiskey and get the 2nd round from the house… And so is the 4th… You get the picture! Tuesday is trivia contest night. It’s a very friendly place…

Not many options in the neighborhood but usually a nice spot with cool staff. But 12 oz High Life pours? Really?

Decent food and drink but snotty bartenders. If you are going to run a bar based on soccer, microwaveable pies, and mediocre beer, try to be a little more welcoming.

I’m a huge fan of Highbury for its simplicity and laid-back atmosphere. Sometimes there’s no music playing, which some people find unsettling, but can often be a nice break from the other bars on Cortelyou that often have live or loud music. However, when Aude is bartending she’s always got a nice mix of jazz and reggae. And people… their pies are amazing!

Not my scene: no music, all soccer, small selection on the wall. Maybe I should retry after work sometime instead of on a weekend? Points for carrying O’Hara’s, which I’ve never seen on tap before. Seconded on the weird Playboy wallpaper in the bathroom: This is a pub, not a LES dive bar. What’s it doing here?

This is not your typical sports bar, it’s all soccer baby!!! This bar will most likely be my spot when the World Cup comes around this summer. Yes, there is no music playing here. If you want something more«lively» head to Sycamore or Chords.

I adore this place, thankfully it’s three blocks from my flat! It’s the place I go to after work to meet friends, and it’s the place I go to to read a book by streetlight, perched on one of the stools by the big windows. The décor is spare and warm, with christmas lights providing most of the illumination(which I love) and a cozy red paint and wood interior. The lack of music(which I REALLYLOVE) was weird and echoey at first, but the space has settled into itself and is now very nice. I always end up talking to a random stranger at the bar, it’s just the kind of place. Jimmy, the owner and usually the man behind the bar, is on the quiet side but amenable to a little chat if you engage him. His beer selection is small but very good. I dislike when the TV sound is on but it’s a small price to pay.

I was happy to find out there was a bar in the neighborhood that isn’t ridiculously loud — somewhere to retreat to when Bar Chord has a band and Sycamore has a DJ. The first time I went the bartender was explaining different cocktails to us(we asked); the second time our bartender seemed to know less than I do(which is not a lot). Both times they were nice. It’s a sports bar, but not American sports, and I was perfectly happy there even though I hate sports and games and anything fun. This is definitely the best spot in the neighborhood to do a shot of Malort.

Tried to go here once but they were closed on a Saturday afternoon(I was there sometime between 3−5pm). TVs were on but the door was locked. Disappointed but just walked to the bar next door instead. Decided to give it another go around 10p on a different Saturday night. It was open! There were people inside but it wasn’t too crowded. It seems like a big space. Although if you want to watch tv you won’t want to be in the deep back area. There are two large tvs here, which are predominantly for sports(fine by me). I did notice the ‘silent bar’ concept immediately and honestly, it really weirded me out. It made the place feel empty. Our voices seemed to echo and it wasn’t very comforting. That’s just me though — And I do like music. I also like talking, which this is definitely is good for. I get that it’s a sports bar, so music isn’t really important. I wasn’t there for a soccer(football, whatever) game so I don’t know what the sound is like for that. Hopefully that fills up the space better. My biggest gripe and the main reason why I’ll skip this in the future, is the prices. I know this is nyc and i know rent is expensive. But I’m not paying $ 7 – 9 for pint in my neighborhood. I feel this way about some of the nearby bars too. Their cheapest was a $ 5 can of genny light. Unfortunately you can get $ 3 cans near by. I get that this place is trying to be kind of classier, neat! Just not for me. Way too expensive with an oddly uncomfortable atmosphere. I love that I have somewhere to go to watch a game but at $ 7/beer, there’s no way I’ll sit there drinking for hours. Happy Hour $ 5 draft until 7pm. Cash only.
