Mistakes were made, but I left Hillstone amazed by the food and service recovery. I ate the spinach and artichoke dip and the club salad. Best spinach and artichoke dip I ever had and the salad exceeded my expectations by being so delicious, I could not stop talking about how good the salad was the whole time I was eating it, and it is probably because the chicken was excellent(juicy, flavorful, crispy) As for the service, my friend and I were given two different menus, which was easily fixed once our waitress eventually got to us. The biggest problem was that our appetizer never came out. We waited so long for our entrees that it was sad that we didn’t have the appetizer to eat while we waited. Our waitress however, noticed this and brought us dip with our entrees, but didn’t charge us. The fact that the dip was so good and free pretty much made up for the fact that we didn’t get it before our main meal. But then our waitress also gave us dessert for free which was so nice and not expected at all. I believe our waitress’s name was Hess, and she turned a potentially disappointing experience into a memorable one and I cannot wait to go back because I know that the food is great and the people that work there really do care about your dining experience and are empowered to make sure you are satisfied.

I love coming to every Houstons/Hillstone…Their service, food and ambiance overall are second to none in my book. it’s an even greater place to come on Friday and Saturday nights when they have the live jazz band playing. Never had a bad experience in so many years coming here. Now to the food… We always start with the spinach artichoke dip(must have)…the wife always orders the campfire barbecue ribs with a loaded baked potato… and I normally order the Hawaiian ribeye also with the loaded baked potato… and to finish the evening there Isn’t a better way than the hot brownie with vanilla ice cream and nuts…

Horrible service. Reservation was for 7:45 we didn’t get to sit down until 8:25. They didn’t offer us any drinks and told us even with reservations the normal wait is another 15mins!!! So what is the reservation for? Stupid people. We set down and ordered immediately. After 10 mins the waitress came back and told us they ran out of the order I wanted, how could you run out of ingredients before 8:30 in New York City? Terrible service and bad management.

Hillstone has been a family favorite since it opened when I was a child. The service is typically perfect and accommodating, the food is great, the servings are always satisfying, and the general ambiance is just as great. I’ve maintained for years that their House Made Veggie Burger is not only the best veggie burger out there, but that I prefer it to any real meat so far. The entire menu is great but that veggie burger is usually what I go for. Great appetizers and desserts too. There’s often live jazz music and it’s always very good.

This place is amazing. The service is incredible, we had a reservation and were seated within 9 minutes of the reservation time and the food made me dance in my seat. We started with the crispy oysters and spinach dip and for our entrees I had the salmon and my husband had a cut of steak that wasn’t even on the menu. I convinced him to order it medium and it was so perfectly seared on the outside and moist on the inside I just had to dig into his plate. And this is a place where the waiters actually look happy to be at work, that’s a sign of a great restaurant! Mikael B. was great as our server and reminded me a lot of Colin Hanks lol. Thanks hon for a wonderful experience.

Randomly chose this restaurant from Unilocal reviews. Rolled in around 8pm with a colleague and there was a 30 minute wait, but we were lucky and got two seats at the bar. Decent crowd, very cool bar tenders and the food!?! Oh yeah! I ordered the Hawaiian Glazed Strip and man was it great. The baked potato that it came with was actually cold, but the bartender had a new one out in 5 minutes that was piping hot and actually melted the cheese that was on top of it. I will be sure to go back when I am in town next. The only con was the 80 year old woman who tried to pick me up at the bar… lol

This place hasn’t been on my list as I always thought of it more as an after-work style chain. But my sister took me here raving about the veggie burger. annnnd she was right. Best veggie burger ever! WE ordered: Kale Chicken Salad: Chicken is really good in this salad. The kale is not chewy or very kale-like. Really good salad and big portion. Spicy Tuna Osaka Style Roll: YUM Rainbow Roll: I was hesitant to get this because of the price, how special can a rainbow roll be, but it was excellent and I would get it again. Thai Tuna Roll: this is the only roll i wouldn’t order again. It was tasty, but too crunchy w the peanuts. Veggie Burger w Couscous: this was amazing and so so good. I dream of this burger. Service is excellent. Vibe is old school classic. Not hip or cool, but nice.

I love Hillstone! My favourite restaurants in the US, if not the world. The service was great and the food portions were huge! Remember to try their burgers and ribs! Their sushi is also very good. But beware, big portions! Cheeseburger: Great, huge portion. Thai Tuna Roll: Delicious! Coconut Shrimp Roll: Yum USDA Center-Cut Filet: Very good. Great for dinner!

Fall off the bone ribs and a caesar salad. Service was a little off — perhaps they were short handed for the holiday period? Other than that the food was as good as I remember from the location I went to in the Boston area and everyone else at the table was very satisfied with their choices as well. Overall, it is a pretty big place that you may never notice from street side as it is located in a basement down a short flight of stairs at the street corner.

Om nom nom, chomp, chomp, munch, munch, hiccup(:no time for hiccups, must suppress:) crunch, crunch, gulp, gulp. Repeat. For at least 15 minutes. «Slow down, buddy,» I said to my 5 year old, who doesn’t answer me, nor even nods affirmatively, but maintains his focus and concentration as if he is in his version of the Coney Island hotdog eating contest. He does this while constantly pivots his gaze between the spinach dip with chips and the chicken finger and french fry platter, with a side of honey mustard, and continues to vigorously consume the food before him. Yes, people, my toddler was having a foodgasm. I have been going to Hillstone’s(formerly Houston’s) as early as 2005. And I can only do what proud fathers can do; and that’s to pass it on to the offspring. I just love this place. The employees who interact with the customers, from the hostesses, waitstaff and bartenders, are ALWAYS pleasant and ALWAYS provide service with a warm, genuine smile. They NEVER seem to have a bad day. EVER. You might wonder if they are HUMAN? No, they are a special breed of super humans who are the prototype of the service customers should receive in the food and beverage industry. And I have personally experienced this stellar service consistently in all three Hillstone’s locations(3rd Ave, Park Ave and Garden City on Long Island). Just where is this Hillstone’s School of Food and Beverage Service that every employee seem to graduate from in order to earn a position? Whenever I dined here, whether with a friend or a group, we ALWAYS get the signature spinach dip(if you don’t, it’s like ordering salmon at a steak house; don’t be that guy. People will look at you and think«what’s wrong with you?») Highlights of some of the dishes I’ve had over the years: Thai noodle salad with seared steak or crispy battered chicken: a delicious combination of Napa cabbage with lo mein noodles, mango and avocado chunks tossed in a savory-sweet thai dressing that includes soy sauce, ginger, red pepper flakes. Fall off the bone ribs: what more need to be said? Comes with chunky and creamy cole slaw and freshly cut shoe strings french fries(for my boy, I request the server to hold the salt). French dip: thin, delicate, melt in your mouth slices of cold roast beef stuffed between French bread that you dunk into the accompanying au jus with each bite. The burger: thick and juicy ground chuck cooked perfectly to your liking and fully dressed with smears of mayo and mustard, and topped with lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle slices, and sandwiched between a pillowy sesame roll. Comes with the shoe string fries. There is a full service bar with a great selection of microbrews. For those who want to start the new year on a healthy kick, fresh squeezed OJ is available, as is Saratoga bottled water. To finish off the meal, if you still have room, the warm five nut brownie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream never disappoints. Hillstone’s also introduced me to Danesi, which is one of my favorite coffee and espresso beans. I even ordered a bag of whole beans from Amazon to brew at home. If all this does not convince you to pop your Hillstone’s cherry, then what’s wrong with you?

Unlike other Hillstone restaurants, the food and service is always consistent at this location. Subtle lighting gives a swanky feel to the place. They have live jazz at night and really good sushi and specialty rolls. I had the spinach and artichoke dip, which is always a great starter, and the Sashimi and cashew kale salad. It was both light and filling at the same time. The vinaigrette really makes this salad a must-order. I hear the one on long island is closing. I’m not surprised.

The French dip! Every time I come here I try to mix things up, but my heart lies in the French dip. They do have a lot of other great options like the club salad or crispy chicken sandwich, but in the end I always end up wishing I had ordered the french dip. The roast beef is already juicy on its own but adding a bit of jus never hurt anyone. Highly recommend!

Fantastic. Fantastic. Fantastic. The service, the food, the portions, the ambience, the drinks, the location. Every bit of this was fantastic. Located in Midtown, playing some jazz, fright in the middle of NYC with a huge prime rib and the best sushi of my life, there are Zero complaints and nothing to be upset about. You’re only doing yourself a favor if you reserve some seating here(Reserve is a must). Love it.

When I lived in Florida I was a big fan of Houston’s Steak House. I always had a steak, potato and the hearts of palm salad. I came to this NYC location for special occasions when it was still Houston’s. Since it changed names I found it different. I was disappointed in the food. The atmosphere and menu changed to trendy. I haven’t returned. Sorry it’s not the menu and restaurant I used to know. :(

My boyfriend and I came here on a Friday night, made reservations, but still had to wait… which honestly, was kind of annoying. The server was nice, but slow. Food came out slowly too, we had to wait for quite a long time between appetizers and entrée. The food however, was excellent. I would try going at lunch or something next time.

For a chain, the quality in food is still excellent. This semi fancy dining place has a little bit of everything from vegan options to the meatiest. The rolls are not something take lightly, I’m an avid sushi lover and the way that Hillstone makes their rolls are something else. It’s worth a try, especially the coconut one. Onto the entrees, everyone opted either for the veggie burgers or the Hawaiian Ribeye Steak. For those meat eaters like me, the Hawaiian Ribeye Steak was worth every bite, every smell, every dollar. It’s damn good, also kudos that I don’t feel so bloated and heavy after finishing the whole damn plate. The steak comes with a side of potatos, from baked potato to shoestring fries, you choose it. Can’t go wrong with this ribeye steak. It’s also named Hawaiian because of the pineapple glazed sauce on the steak, it gives the steak some sweetness which isn’t surprisingly a bad thing.

Since my first review I’ve come back to Hillstone about 3 – 4 times. Every time has been a wonderful experience The prime rib is my go to dish and I always get a side of the coleslaw. The ice cream sundae is a great way to finish off your meal, that is if you still have room. The service is always on point and the restaurant has a great ambiance. I’m already looking forward to my next visit.

I typically don’t like«chains», but Hillstone is up there with one of the better ones. A friend and I were walking in midtown looking for a dinner option around 815pm and decided on Hillstone. There was a 30 minute wait, which we decided was okay… And we were brought to our table almost exactly 30 minutes later. We started with the spinach dip which was a large portion, and in addition to the spinach dip was sour cream and salsa. They even brought more chips about halfway through which was wonderful. The dip itself was creamy and delicious. For an entrée I had the fish of the day which was bass served with fried rock shrimp and a butter sauce. I chose broccoli and tabbouleh for my sides. The fish was cooked nicely, but unfortunately there was a bone in it. The rock shrimp were super tasty and were a great addition to the fish. The broccoli was steamed just slightly, and I thought the lemon and Parmesan were a nice touch. The tabbouleh was fantastic. The fresh corn and herbs made it really vibrant. Service was very good. The waitress had the answers to all of my questions and was super friendly. Besides having a wait and a bone in my fish, it was overall a good experience. I’d like to come back and try the sushi!

Visited Hillstone for the first time for a lunch break, and I still cannot get over the meal I had! We walked in during prime lunch hour, and we were comfortably seated at a large booth. The atmosphere of this place was clean, upscale, but also warm. The lighting of the restaurant is fairly dark. Our server was extremely friendly, well-versed on the menu, and she gave fantastic suggestions! Appetizer: Jumbo shrimp cocktail– HUGE juicy shrimps accompanied by house-made tartar sauce and a spicier sauce. I would go easy on the cocktail sauce.(Expensive app but worth it) Main Entrée: 1) Crispy Chicken Sandwich– BEST chicken sandwich ever, layered with a heaping amount of kale, tangy honey mustard, and great bread. However, the STAR of the show was the coleslaw. I could eat it all day… 2) Kale Cashew salad– I didn’t try this but my coworker did and she loved it! I was torn between everything on this menu, especially the flying tuna salad. It looks like I may need to come back. Such a memorable meal, especially for lunch.

Came here during a weekday lunch and it was packed — speaks to its popularity! Got the Flying tuna(seared ahi) salad with mango and avocado — SOOO good. Tons of flavor, fresh ingredients, great combination. Possibly the most delicious salad I’ve had. Also heard that their veggie burger is really good.
